| 1 | Ganoderic acid hinders renal fibrosis via suppressing the TGF- β/Smad and MAPK signaling pathways显示文摘Renal fibrosis is considered as the pathway of almost all kinds of chronic kidney diseases(CKD)to the end stage of renal diseases(ESRD).Ganoderic acid(GA)is a group of lanostane triterpenes isolated from Ganoderma lucidum,which has shown a variety of pharmacological activities.In this study we investigated whether GA exerted antirenal fibrosis effect in a unilateral ureteral obstruction(UUO)mouse model.After UUO surgery,the mice were treated with GA(3.125,12.5,and 50 mg·kg^−1·d^−1,ip)for 7 or 14 days.Then the mice were sacrificed for collecting blood and kidneys.We showed that GA treatment dose-dependently attenuated UUO-induced tubular injury and renal fibrosis;GA(50 mg·kg^−1·d^−1)significantly ameliorated renal disfunction during fibrosis progression.We further revealed that GA treatment inhibited the extracellular matrix(ECM)deposition in the kidney by suppressing the expression of fibronectin,mainly through hindering the over activation of TGF-β/Smad signaling.On the other hand,GA treatment significantly decreased the expression of mesenchymal cell markers alpha-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA)and vimentin,and upregulated E-cadherin expression in the kidney,suggesting the suppression of tubular epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)partially via inhibiting both TGF-β/Smad and MAPK(ERK,JNK,p38)signaling pathways.The inhibitory effects of GA on TGF-β/Smad and MAPK signaling pathways were confirmed in TGF-β1-stimulated HK-2 cell model.GA-A,a GA monomer,was identified as a potent inhibitor on renal fibrosis in vitro.These data demonstrate that GA or GA-A might be developed as a potential therapeutic agent in the treatment of renal fibrosis. | Xiao-qiang Geng Ang Ma Jin-zhao He Liang Wang Ying-li Jia Guang-ying Shao Min Li Hong Zhou Shu-qian Lin Jian-hua Ran Bao-xue Yang | 2020 | Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2020,41,5: | 43 |

| 4 | Tooth regeneration: a revolution in stomatology and evolution in regenerative medicine显示文摘A tooth is a complex biological organ and consists of multiple tissues including the enamel, dentin, cementum and pulp. Tooth loss is the most common organ failure. Can a tooth be regenerated? Can adult stem cells be orchestrated to regenerate tooth structures such as the enamel, dentin, cementum and dental pulp, or even an entire tooth? If not, what are the therapeutically viable sources of stem cells for tooth regeneration? Do stem cells necessarily need to be taken out of the body, and manipulated ex vivo before they are transplanted for tooth regeneration? How can regenerated teeth be economically competitive with dental implants? Would it be possible to make regenerated teeth affordable by a large segment of the population worldwide? This review article explores existing and visionary approaches that address some of the above-mentioned questions. Tooth regeneration represents a revolution in stomatology as a shift in the paradigm from repair to regeneration: repair is by metal or artificial materials whereas regeneration is by biological restoration. | 6 | On the Key Dynamical Processes Supporting the 21.7 Zhengzhou Record-breaking Hourly Rainfall in China显示文摘An extremely heavy rainfall event occurred in Zhengzhou,China,on 20 July 2021 and produced an hourly rainfall rate of 201.9 mm,which broke the station record for China's Mainland.Based on radar observations and a convection-permitting simulation using the WRF-ARW model,this paper investigates the multiscale processes,especially those at the mesoscale,that support the extreme observed hourly rainfall.Results show that the extreme rainfall occurred in an environment characteristic of warm-sector heavy rainfall,with abundant warm moist air transported from the ocean by an abnormally northward-displaced western Pacific subtropical high and Typhoon In-Fa(2021).However,rather than through back building and echo training of convective cells often found in warm-sector heavy rainfall events,this extreme hourly rainfall event was caused by a single,quasi-stationary storm in Zhengzhou.Scale separation analysis reveals that the extreme-rainproducing storm was supported and maintained by the dynamic lifting of low-level converging flows from the north,south,and east of the storm.The low-level northerly flow originated from a mesoscale barrier jet on the eastern slope of the Taihang Mountain due to terrain blocking of large-scale easterly flows,which reached an overall balance with the southerly winds in association with a low-level meso-β-scale vortex located to the west of Zhengzhou.The large-scale easterly inflows that fed the deep convection via transport of thermodynamically unstable air into the storm prevented the eastward propagation of the weak,shallow cold pool.As a result,the convective storm was nearly stationary over Zhengzhou,resulting in record-breaking hourly precipitation. | Peng WEI Xin XU Ming XUE Chenyue ZHANG Yuan WANG Kun ZHAO Ang ZHOU Shushi ZHANG Kefeng ZHU | 2023 | Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2023,40,3: | 9 |
| 7 | Physicochemical properties and heavy metals leachability of fly ash from coal-fired power plant显示文摘The physicochemical properties of fly ash from two kinds of coal-fired power plants were studied. Three aspects were examined: the micro-morphology, the mineral composition and the content of heavy metals. The results show that the fly ash from plants using a circulating fluidized bed are more irregular particles, while the particles from the plants using a pulverized coal-fired boiler are mainly spherical in shape. Quartz and mullite are the main crystalline phases in the ash. Clearly, both the technology and the coal used by a power plant can influence the mineral composition of the ash. The mineral composition of fly ash from a circulating fluidized bed is more complex than that from a pulverized coal-fired boiler. The quantity of elements found in the fly ash is greater than that found in the bottom ash for the same plant. Heavy metals are likely to be enriched in the fly ash. Heavy metal leachability was studied using two leaching methods. The results indicate that most of the heavy metals that leached during either batch leaching or column leaching experiments did not exceed the related maximum concentration standards. But Ni concentrations in the leachates from both batch and column tests exceed the standard. | 10 | Oral microbiome and pancreatic cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND Microbiota profiles differ between patients with pancreatic cancer and healthy people,and understanding these differences may help in early detection of pancreatic cancer.Saliva sampling is an easy and cost-effective way to determine microbiota profiles compared to fecal and tissue sample collection.AIM To investigate the saliva microbiome distribution in patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma(PDAC)and the role of oral microbiota profiles in detection and risk prediction of pancreatic cancer.METHODS We conducted a prospective study of patients with pancreatic cancer(n=41)and healthy individuals(n=69).Bacterial taxa were identified by 16S ribosomal ribonucleic acid gene sequencing,and a linear discriminant analysis effect size algorithm was used to identify differences in taxa.Operational taxonomic unit values of all selected taxa were converted into a normalized Z-score,and logistic regressions were used to calculate risk prediction of pancreatic cancer.RESULTS Compared with the healthy control group,carriage of Streptococcus and Leptotrichina(z-score)was associated with a higher risk of PDAC[odds ratio(OR)=5.344,95%confidence interval(CI):1.282-22.282,P=0.021 and OR=6.886,95%CI:1.423-33.337,P=0.016,respectively].Veillonella and Neisseria(z-score)were considered a protective microbe that decreased the risk of PDAC(OR=0.187,95%CI:0.055-0.631,P=0.007 and OR=0.309,95%CI:0.100-0.952,P=0.041,respectively).Among the patients with PDAC,patients reporting bloating have a higher abundance of Porphyromonas(P=0.039),Fusobacterium(P=0.024),and Alloprevotella(P=0.041);while patients reporting jaundice had a higher amount of Prevotella(P=0.008);patients reporting dark brown urine had a higher amount of Veillonella(P=0.035).Patients reporting diarrhea had a lower amount of Neisseria and Campylobacter(P=0.024 and P=0.034),and patients reporting vomiting had decreased Alloprevotella(P=0.036).CONCLUSION Saliva microbiome was able to distinguish patients with pancreatic cancer and healthy individuals.Leptotrichia may be specific for patients living in Sichuan Province,southwest China.Symptomatic patients had different bacteria profiles than asymptomatic patients.Combined symptom and microbiome evaluation may help in the early detection of pancreatic cancer. | Ai-Lin Wei Mao Li Guo-Qing Li Xuan Wang Wei-Ming Hu Zhen-Lu Li Jue Yuan Hong-Ying Liu Li-Li Zhou Ka Li Ang Li Mei Rosemary Fu | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,48: | 4 |
| 11 | Pump scheme optimization of an incoherently pumped high-power random fiber laser显示文摘Optical signal-to-noise ratio(OSNR) is one of the most significant parameters for the performance characterization of random fiber lasers(RFLs) and their application potentiality in sensing and telecommunication. An effective way to improve the OSNR of RFLs is pump scheme optimization, for example, employing a temporally stable source as the pump. In this paper, the output performance of an incoherently pumped RFL dependence on the pump bandwidth has been investigated both in experiment and theory. It is found that a high-OSNR RFL can be achieved with broadband amplified spontaneous emission(ASE) source pumping, and a relatively broad pump bandwidth can also help suppress the spectral broadening while maintaining an ultra-high spectral purity.By optimizing the pump bandwidth to ~10 nm, maximum OSNR of ~39 dB(corresponding to a spectral purity of ~99.96%) with more than 99 W output power can be obtained. Moreover, for the pump bandwidth of 0.6–40 nm, the spectral purity can reach as high as >99% with the pump power ranging from ~85 to ~117 W.In addition, with the aid of theoretical simulation based on a modified power balance model, we find that the increment of pump bandwidth can decrease the effective Raman gain coefficient, further influencing the gain characteristics, nonlinear effects, and eventually the output performance. | 15 | ASAF: altered spontaneous activity fingerprinting in Alzheimer’s disease based on multisite fMRI显示文摘Several monocentric studies have noted alterations in spontaneous brain activity in Alzheimer's disease (AD), although there is no consensus on the altered amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations in AD patients. The main aim of the present study was to identify a reliable and reproducible abnormal brain activity pattern in AD. The amplitude of local brain activity (AM), which can provide fast mapping of spontaneous brain activity across the whole brain, was evaluated based on multisite rs-fMRI data for 688 subjects (215 normal controls (NCs), 221 amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) 252 AD). Two-sample t-tests were used to detect group differences between AD patients and NCs from the same site. Differences in the AM maps were statistically analyzed via the Stouffer's meta-analysis. Consistent regions of lower spontaneous brain activity in the default mode network and increased activity in the bilateral hippocampus/parahippocampus, thalamus, caudate nucleus, orbital part of the middle frontal gyrus and left fusiform were observed in the AD patients compared with those in NCs. Significant correlations (P?0.05, Bonferroni corrected) between the normalized amplitude index and Mini-Mental State Examination scores were found in the identified brain regions, which indicates that the altered brain activity was associated with cognitive decline in the patients. Multivariate analysis and leave-one-site-out cross-validation led to a 78.49% prediction accuracy for single-patient classification. The altered activity patterns of the identified brain regions were largely correlated with the FDG-PET results from another independent study. | 16 | Fuzzy Sliding Mode Active Disturbance Rejection Control of an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle-Manipulator System显示文摘In this paper, a fuzzy sliding mode active disturbance rejection control(FSMADRC) scheme is proposed for an autonomous underwater vehicle-manipulator system(AUVMS) with a two-link and three-joint manipulator. First, the AUVMS is separated into nine subsystems, and the combined effects of dynamic uncertainties, hydrodynamic force, unknown disturbances, and nonlinear coupling terms on each subsystem are lumped into a single total disturbance. Next, a linear extended state observer(LESO) is presented to estimate the total disturbance. Then, a sliding mode active disturbance rejection control(SMADRC) scheme is proposed to enhance the robustness of the control system. The stability of the SMADRC and the estimation errors of the LESO are analyzed. Because it is difficult to simultaneously adjust several parameters for a LESO-based SMADRC scheme, a fuzzy logic control(FLC) scheme is used to formulate the FSMADRC to determine the appropriate parameters adaptively for practical applications. Finally, two AUVMS tasks are illustrated to test the trajectory tracking performance of the closed-loop system and its ability to reject and attenuate the total disturbance. | 19 | Transparent,Ultra-Stretching,Tough,Adhesive Carboxyethyl Chitin/Polyacrylamide Hydrogel Toward High-Performance Soft Electronics显示文摘To date,hydrogels have gained increasing attentions as a flexible conductive material in fabricating soft electronics.However,it remains a big challenge to integrate multiple functions into one gel that can be used widely under various conditions.Herein,a kind of multifunc-tional hydrogel with a combination of desirable characteristics,including remarkable transparency,high conductivity,ultra-stretchability,tough-ness,good fatigue resistance,and strong adhesive ability is presented,which was facilely fabricated through multiple noncovalent crosslinking strategy.The resultant versatile sensors are able to detect both weak and large deformations,which owns a low detection limit of 0.1%strain,high stretchability up to 1586%,ultrahigh sensitivity with a gauge factor up to 18.54,as well as wide pressure sensing range(0-600 kPa).Meanwhile,the fabrication of conductive hydrogel-based sensors is demonstrated for various soft electronic devices,including a flexible human-machine interactive system,the soft tactile switch,an integrated electronic skin for unprecedented nonplanar visualized pressure sensing,and the stretchable triboelectric nanogenerators with excellent biomechanical energy harvesting ability.This work opens up a simple route for multifunctional hydrogel and promises the practical application of soft and self-powered wearable electronics in various complex scenes. | Jipeng Zhang Yang Hu Lina Zhang Jinping Zhou Ang Lu | 2023 | Nano-Micro Letters2023,15,1: | 2 |
