EW-trending uplifts along the southern side of the central segment of the Altyn Tagh Fault, NW China: Insight into the rising mechanism of the Altyn Mountain during the Cenozoic显示文摘The Altyn Tagh Fault and the Altyn Mountain define respectively the tectonic and geographical northern edges of the Tibetan Plateau, and figure prominently in the growth and rising mechanism of the plateau. The rhombus-shaped Altyn Mountain has long been thought to have an intimate relation with the Altyn Tagh Fault; however, its formation mechanism remains unclear and debatable. In this paper, we focus on the EW-trending uplifts in the Altyn Mountain, and investigated three Cenozoic sedimentary sections in the vicinity of the EW-trending uplifts located along the southern side of the central segment of the Altyn Tagh Fault. Magnetostratigraphy and pollen analysis were used to constrain ages of the sediments. Clast composition of conglomerate and paleocurrents obtained from clast imbrications were applied to determine the provenance. We also established a geological section parallel to the Altyn Tagh Fault on sedimentary facies across the northwestern Qaidam Basin. The results indicate that these en-echelon EW-trending uplifts formed as early as ca. 36 Ma and were preferred to be under the control of basal shear of the Altyn Tagh Fault in the middle-lower crust, symbolizing the early uplift of the Altyn Mountain during the Cenozoic. Left-slip along the Altyn Tagh Fault occurring during the Miocene and afterwards displaced and altered these uplifts, shaping the Altyn Mountain to its present fabric. | WU Lei XIAO AnCheng WANG LiQun MAO LiGuang WANG Liang DONG YouPu XU Bo | 2012 | Science China Earth Sciences2012,55,6: | 21

On the mechanism and control for the ultra-low frequency oscillation in NY Power Grid with large-scale hydropower显示文摘The power grid with large proportion of hydropower may engage the ultra-low frequency oscillation (ULFO),which threatening the operation of system. To the NY Power Grid system, whose dimension is over thousands, this paper reveals the cause of ULFO with the phase portrait method,i.e.,lies in the saturation of the different limits of the governor system of the generators,in other words, the occurrence of limit cycle is due to the non-smooth bifurcation. And furthermore,it proposes two methods to suppress ULFO with the philosophy of destroying the condition of non-smooth bifurcation. In detail, first, the phenomenon of ULFO in NY Power Grid, the damping characteristics and the limits in the governor system of the hydropower units are presented.Second, based on the non-smooth bifurcation theory, the mathematical basis of the oscillation in the non-smooth system caused by the saturation of limits is introduced. And then, the non-oscillation and oscillation dynamic of the system corresponding to without/with limits in the governor system are analyzed.Furthermore,it discusses the influence of the saturation of single limit on the characteristics of ULFO with the phase portraits. Moreover, the phase portraits of the ULFO under different faults is analyzed, and it shows that the limiting saturation occurs with a large enough disturbance. Thus, the ULFO is resulting from the negative damping of generation and the saturation of multiple limits under a large enough disturbance. In addition, according to the above mechanism, two strategies to suppress the ULFO,i.e.,the governor parameters tuning and the fault strength relief are designed. The simulation shows the effectiveness of proposed strategies. | Ancheng XUE Jiawei WANG Chao ZHENG Joe H.CHOW Tianshu BI | 2019 | Control Theory and Technology2019,17,3: | 11
The unconformity in Miocene sequence of western Qaidam Basin and its tectonic significance显示文摘An angular unconformity has been identified between the upper and the lower Youshashan Formation based on the study of the regional geology, drillhole, and geophysical data of the Altyn Tagh Mountain foreland, western Qaidam Basin. The distribution of the unconformity, the contacts between the upper and the lower Youshashan Formation, and its relation to the characteristics of the paleo-structure belts suggest a close relationship between the unconformities in the southern flank of the Altyn Tagh Mountain in the west of the Qaidam Basin and the activity of the Altyn Tagh Fault. It was the same time when the Atlyn Tagh Fault Zone was transformed from regional uplifting to rapid-strike-slipping movement during the Miocene, resulting in the cessation of the regional uplift and subsequent massive regional transgression during the deposition of the upper Youshashan Formation, which unconformably overlies (onlaps) the underlying strata of different ages. | WANG Liang XIAO AnCheng GONG QingLin LIU Dong WU Lei ZHOU SuPing SHEN ZhongYan LOU QianQian SUN XiaoWen | 2010 | Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,8: | 10

Firstly,a generalized SOC theory from the viewpoint of cybernetics is introduced. Then the evolution model of power system and its relative mathematical description, which serves as a concrete example of the proposed generalized SOC,are given. Secondly, five blackout models capturing various critical properties of power systems in different time-scales are listed. Finally, this paper analyzes SOC in power systems, such as,the revelation of criticalities of proposed models in both micro-scale and macro-scale which can be used to assess the security of power system, and cas-cading failures process. | MEI ShengWei XUE AnCheng ZHANG XueMin | 2008 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2008,51,2: | 10 |
The Exhumation History of North Qaidam Thrust Belt Constrained by Apatite Fission Track Thermochronology:Implication for the Evolution of the Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Determining the spatio-temporal distribution of the deformation tied to the India-Eurasian convergence and the impact of pre-existing weaknesses on the Cenozoic crustal deformation is significant for understanding how the convergence between India and Eurasia contributed to the development of the Tibetan Plateau. The exhumation history of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau was addressed in this research using a new apatite fission track(AFT) study in the North Qaidam thrust belt(NQTB). Three granite samples collected from the Qaidam Shan pluton in the north tied to the Qaidam Shan thrust, with AFT ages clustering in the Eocene to Miocene. The other thirteen samples obtained from the Luliang Shan and Yuka plutons in the south related to the Luliang Shan thrust and they have showed predominantly the Cretaceous AFT ages. Related thermal history modeling based on grain ages and track lengths indicates rapid cooling events during the Eocene-early Oligocene and since late Miocene within the Qaidam Shan, in contrast to those in the Cretaceous and since the Oligocene-Miocene in the Luliang Shan and Yuka region. The results, combined with published the Cretaceous thermochronological ages in the Qaidam Shan region, suggest that the NQTB had undergo rapid exhumation during the accretions along the southern Asian Andean-type margin prior to the India-Eurasian collision. The Cenozoic deformation initially took place in the North Qaidam thrust belt by the Eocene, which is consistent with the recent claim that the deformation of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau initiated in the Eocene as a response to continental collision between India and Eurasia. The immediate deformation responding to the collision is tentatively attributed to the pre-existing weaknesses of the lithosphere, and therefore the deformation of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau should be regarded as a boundary-condition-dependent process. | CHENG Xiaogan LIN Xiubin WU Lei CHEN Hanlin XIAO Ancheng GONG Junfeng ZHANG Fengqi YANG Shufeng | 2016 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2016,90,3: | 10
Cenozoic tectonic and sedimentary evolution of southern Qaidam Basin, NE Tibetan Plateau and its implication for the rejuvenation of Eastern Kunlun Mountains显示文摘The Eastern Kunlun Mountains play an important role in the growth and eastward extrusion of the Tibetan Plateau. Tectonic and sedimentary study of the Cenozoic Qaidam Basin, especially the southern part, provides key evidence for understanding their evolution. Here we present evidence including isopach maps, seismic sections and sedimentary analysis of single well to illustrate the sedimentary development of the basin and the structural features of its southern margin. The Qaidam Basin extended across Qiman Tagh-Eastern Kunlun Mountains in the early Cenozoic and withdrew northward at ca. 35.5 Ma, and then buckled as an EW striking elliptical depression since ca. 14.9 Ma, with the main depocenter migrating eastward. Our results support the view that the Kumukol and Hoh Xil basins joined the Qaidam Basin in the early Cenozoic time and we propose the Eastern Kunlun Mountains uplifted in the mid-Miocene. | MAO LiGuang XIAO AnCheng WU Lei LI BenLiang WANG LiQun LOU QianQian DONG YouPu QIN SuHua | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,11: | 7
Tectonic evolution of Tethyan tectonic field, formation of Northern Margin basin and explorative perspective of natural gas in Tarim Basin显示文摘Analyzing the characteristics of the Tethyantectonic field, the authors think that the Tethyan tectonicfield underwent three evolutional stages: closing of Pa-leo-Tethys and rifting of Neo-Tethys from early Permian tolate Triassic, subduction of Neo-Tethys and collision betweenthe Indian plate and the Eurasia plate from Jurassic to earlyof low Tertiary, and collision between the Arab plate and theEurasia plate and the A-type subduction of Indian plate fromlate of low Tertiary to the present. Combining the evolutionof the Tethyan orogenic belt with the characteristics of theNorthern Margin basin, it is suggested that the sedimentaryand tectonic characteristics and types of the Northern Mar-gin basin are controlled by the formation and evolution ofthe Tethyan orogenic belt and the ingression of Tethys. Theevolution of Northern Margin basin can be divided into threedevelopment stages: back-arc foreland basin from late Per-mian to Triassic, the back-arc fault subsidence and depres-sion from Jurassic to the early of low Tertiary, and the reac-tive foreland basin from the late of low Tertiary to the pre-sent. The Northern Margin basin in the Tethyan tectonicfield is an important region for natural gas accumulation, and the Tarim Basin is a part of this region. | YANG Shufeng JIA Chengzao CHEN HanlinWEI Guoqi CHENG Xiaogan JIA Dong XIAO Ancheng GUO Shaojie | 2002 | Chinese Science Bulletin2002,47,S1: | 7
Conceptual models for fracturing in fault related folds显示文摘Fault related folds and fractures, which always improve reservoirs and trap capacity, especially in the oil and gas fields in western China, are of extreme importance for oil and gas exploration. Based on four assumptions and fault related fold theory, we propose four conceptual models for fracturing in fault related folds, i.e., a simple-step parallel fault bend anticline, a simple-step parallel fault propagation anticline, a multiple-bend fault-bend fold and a break-forward imbricate. Fracture conditions depend on structural evolution and specific site conditions. A case study of the Kulongshan Anticline in the Jiuquan Basin shows that our conceptual models match reality data very well. | LIN Xiubin | 2010 | Mining Science and Technology2010,20,1: | 5
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION FOR DAMPING CONTROLLERS OF POWER SYSTEMS BASED ON MULTI-AGENT MODELS显示文摘This paper proposes a multi-layer multi-agent model for the performance evaluation of powersystems, which is different from the existing multi-agent ones.To describe the impact of the structureof the networked power system, the proposed model consists of three kinds of agents that form threelayers:control agents such as the generators and associated controllers, information agents to exchangethe information based on the wide area measurement system (WAMS) or transmit control signals tothe power system stabilizers (PSSs),and network-node agents such as the generation nodes and loadnodes connected with transmission lines. An optimal index is presented to evaluate the performance ofdamping controllers to the system's inter-area oscillation with respect to the information-layer topology. Then, the authors show that the inter-area information exchange is more powerful than the exchangewithin a given area to control the inter-area low frequency oscillation based on simulation analysis. | Ancheng XUE Yiguang HONG | 2009 | Journal of Systems Science & Complexity2009,22,1: | 3
Making small molecules in plants:A chassis for synthetic biology-based production of plant natural products显示文摘Plant natural products have been extensively exploited in food, medicine, flavor, cosmetic, renewable fuel, and other industrial sectors.Synthetic biology has recently emerged as a promising means for the cost-effective and sustainable production of natural products.Compared with engineering microbes for the production of plant natural products, the potential of plants as chassis for producing these compounds is underestimated, largely due to challenges encountered in engineering plants.Knowledge in plant engineering is instrumental for enabling the effective and efficient production of valuable phytochemicals in plants, and also paves the way for a more sustainable future agriculture. In this manuscript,we briefly recap the biosynthesis of plant natural products, focusing primarily on industrially important terpenoids, alkaloids, and phenylpropanoids. We further summarize the plant hosts and strategies that have been used to engineer the production of natural products. The challenges and opportunities of using plant synthetic biology to achieve rapid and scalable production of high-value plant natural products are also discussed. | Xinyu Liu Peijun Zhang Qiao Zhao Ancheng C.Huang | 2023 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2023,65,2: | 2

3D Seismic Attributes for Structural Analysis in Compressional Context: A Case Study from Western Sichuan Basin显示文摘Compressional region usually forms complex thrust faults system, which is difficult to identify using traditional migration profiles. The successful application of three-dimensional(3D) seismic attributes analysis greatly reduces the difficulty, and improves the accuracy and efficiency of seismic interpretation and structural analysis. In this paper, we took Qiongxi area in the compressional region of western Sichuan as an example, using two 3D seismic attributes, coherence and instantaneous phase, to identify fault assemblages and variations both vertically and laterally. The results show that the study area mainly consists of NS-, NE- and NEE-trending faults. The NS-trending faults are the largest and have a component of sinistral slip controlling the formation of NEE-trending faults, while the NE-trending faults are intermediate in scale, formed earlier and were cut by the NS-trending faults. Our results demonstrate that using seismic attributes for structural analysis have the following advantages:(1) more details of major fault zones,(2) highlighting minor faults which are hardly traced in seismic migration cube, and(3) easier acquisition of accurate fault systems. The application of seismic attributes provides a new idea for deciphering fine and complicated structures, and will significantly contribute to the development of objective and precise geological interpretation in the future. | Bo Xu Ancheng Xiao Lei Wu Liguang Mao Youpu Dong Lijun Zhou | 2014 | Journal of Earth Science2014,25,6: | 1
