| 4 | Risk factors for development of pneumothorax in patients with COVID-19 at a government health facility in North India:An exploratory case-control study显示文摘Objective:To explore risk factors for the development of pneumothorax in patients with COVID-19 during the second COVID-19 wave at a northern Indian level 2 health facility.Methods:Patients suffering from SARS-CoV-2 infection during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India(January-June 2021)at a tertiary care teaching hospital and level 2 COVID care facility were included.Cases who suffered from SARS-CoV-2 infection but did not develop pneumothorax were selected as matched controls.All details regarding demographics,clinical presentation,treatment,and outcome were recorded in a semi-structured proforma.Results:Eleven patients with COVID-19 developed pneumothorax during the study period and 40 controls were included in the study.Five cases were smokers in comparison to only two in the control group.Type 2 diabetes mellitus was the most common comorbidity among both groups.Median change in C-reactive protein overall for cases and controls were around+14.0 and-41.9 and was statistically significant.Conclusions:Inflammatory markers like C-reactive protein have significant correlations with the development of pneumothorax in COVID-19-infected patients.There is no sex predisposition to develop pneumothorax among patients with COVID-19. | Manabendra Baidya Sandeep Kumar Pandey Hariom Kumar Solanki Ankur Deep Singh Samaksh Giri Syed Altamash | 2023 | Journal of Acute Disease2023,12,6: | 0 |
| 5 | Dormancy studies on Indian horse-chestnut (Aesculus indica Colebr.) under Kashmir conditions显示文摘Studies were carried out in the Faculty of Forestry,Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Kashmir,Shalimar of India during 2006 and 2007.The Indian horse-chestnut (Aesculus indica Colebr.),locally known as 'Hanudun',is one of the more important broad-leaved tree species of the Kashmir valley.No deep dormancy was observed in mature seeds.However,the seeds remained dormant due to unfavorable environmental conditions prevailing after seed dispersal.Both treatments of cold stratification were significantly superior to the control conditions,i.e.,no stratification which showed no germination during the test period of 30 d.The effects of the two treatments (cold stratification for 15 or 30 d) also differed significantly.Germination was found to increase with an increase in the time of cold stratification.Chilling treatments of seeds for 30 d showed maximum germination of 80%,requiring the shortest time for germination,i.e.,20.51 d with a maximum evaluated germination value of 14.88.The other treatment with 15 d chilling showed lower germination of 60%,requiring a maximum number of germination days (27.31 d) with lower germination value of 3.26. | Mumtaz MAJEED M. | 6 | Maturity indices of Indian horse-chestnut (Aesculus indica Colebr.) seeds under temperate Kashmir conditions显示文摘Our study on maturity indices of Aesculus indica Colebr.seeds was conducted under temperate Kashmir conditions in 2006.Seed collection was started from 15 July and continued until the maturation of seeds in December.The seeds were harvested fortnightly from identified trees and on each collection date maturity indices,viz.seed color,seed weight,moisture content,seed dimension,specific gravity and germination percentage were recorded.The study revealed that at the time of maturity (Nov.–Dec.) the seed color was a shiny chocolate brown,with a moisture content of 58.37% and a specific gravity of 0.82.Germination was maximum (80%) at its maturity with a maximum seed weight of 52.03 g per seed.We recommend that the seeds should be collected before their natural disposal. | Mumtaz MAJEED M. | 7 | Benefit-cost analysis of raising Pinus wallichiana seedlings in different capacities/sizes of root trainers in the nursery显示文摘Modern nursery methods of seedling production in different sized root trainers,were compared by raising seedlings of Pinus wallichiana involving costs incurred and benefits received. In order to provide a common basis for the comparisons,the study involved the raising of 1000 seedlings annually on a continuous basis for seven years. A relative economic analysis of raising P. wallichiana seedlings in 300,150 and 100 cm3 root trainers was carried out and we estimated that the root trainers of 300 cm3 capacity recorded the highest total input cost of Rs. 35571 and Rs. 40018 for 1000 seedlings produced annually at discount rates of 12% and 6%. Seedlings raised in 100 cm3 root trainers recorded the lowest total input cost of Rs. 23390 and Rs. 27737 per 1000 seedlings annually at discount rates of 12% and 6%. Hence,returns per rupee invested in raising seedlings in the 100 cm3 root trainers accounted for the maximum benefit-cost ratio(i.e.,1.56 and 1.61) at discount rates of 12% and 6%. Thus seedlings raised in 100 cm3 and 150 cm3 root trainers were found to be most cost effective when compared with seedlings grown in 300 cm3 root trainers. The results can be attributed to the larger number of cells per tray(higher growth density) in the 100 and 150 cm3 root trainers,compared to the number of seedlings in the 300 cm3 root trainers. | Altamash BASHIR K. | 8 | Network pharmacology and computational analysis of berberine and kuwanon Z as possible natural antiviral compounds in COVID-19显示文摘Background:Global efforts to discover effective therapeutic agents for combating coronavirus disease 19(COVID-19)have intensified the exploration of natural compounds with potential antiviral properties.In this study,we utilized network pharmacology and computational analysis to investigate the antiviral effects of Berberine and Kuwanon Z against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2,the viruses responsible for COVID-19.Method:Utilizing comprehensive network pharmacology approaches,we elucidated the complex interactions between these compounds and the host biological system,highlighting their multitarget mechanisms.Network pharmacology identifies COVID-19 targets and compounds through integrated protein‒protein interaction and KEGG pathway analyses.Molecular docking simulation studies were performed to assess the binding affinities and structural interactions of Berberine and Kuwanon Z with key viral proteins,shedding light on their potential inhibitory effects on viral replication and entry.Results:Network-based analyses revealed the modulation of crucial pathways involved in the host antiviral response.Compound-target network analysis revealed complex interactions(122 nodes,121 edges),with significant interactions and an average node degree of 1.37.KEGG analysis revealed pathways such as the COVID-19 pathway,chemokines and Jak-sat in COVID-19.Docking studies revealed that Kuwanon Z had binding energies of-10.5 kcal/mol for JAK2 and-8.1 kcal/mol for the main protease.Conclusion:The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of the pharmacological actions of Berberine and Kuwanon Z in the context of COVID-19,providing a basis for further experimental validation.These natural compounds exhibit promise as potential antiviral agents,offering a foundation for the development of novel therapeutic strategies in the ongoing battle against the global pandemic. | Ansari Vikhar Danish Ahmad Qazi Yasar Subur W Khan Syed Ayaz Ali Ansari Altamash Mohd Mukhtar Khan Nikhil S Sakle | 2024 | Pharmacology Discovery2024,4,1: | 0 |
