1Mechanisms and molecular approaches for heat tolerance in rice (Oryza sativa L.) under climate change scenario显示文摘Rice, a staple cereal crop in many parts of the world, has been confronted with multiple environmental stresses including high temperature, negatively impacts the booting as well as anthesis growth stages. The situation is further complicated by the changing climatic conditions, resulting in gradual escalation of temperature as well as changing the rainfall pattern and frequency, thus raising a concern of food security worldwide. The situation can be combat by developing rice varieties with excellent genetics with improved morpho-physiological, biochemical, and molecular mechanisms, together can minimize the adverse effects of heat stress. Here, several strategies(encompassing genetic and genomic, and mechanisms involved) for mitigating the impact of high temperature on rice have been discussed. 6Nitrite sensor using activated biochar synthesised by microwave-assisted显示文摘Developing applications for the by-products obtained from waste processing is vital for resource recovery.The synthesis of ZnCl2-activated biochar with high electrocatalytic activity was carried out by the microwave-assisted pyrolysis of pineapple peel and subsequent chemical activation process.Activated biochar is employed in the electrochemical sensing of nitrite by drop casting in a glassy carbon electrode(GCE).The activated biochar exhibited a stacked carbon sheet,254 m2 g−1 Brunauer,Emmett and Teller(BET)surface area,0.076 cm3 g−1 pore volume,189.53 m2 g−1 micropore area and oxygen-containing functional groups.The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of the modified GCE showed a reduced charge transfer resistance of 61%.This is crucial to determine the electrochemical properties of biochar.The sensor showed a significant current response and an excellent limit of detection of 0.97µmol L−1.The modified-activated biochar electrochemical sensor demonstrated high selectivity,reproducibility(RSD=2.4%),and stability(RSD=2.6%).Scarlett Allende Yang Liu Muhammad Adeel Zafar Mohan V.Jacob 2023Waste Disposal and Sustainable Energy2023,5,1:0
7Experimental flexural behavior of SMA-FRP reinforced concrete beam显示文摘The most critical drawback in currently used steel reinforcement in reinforced concrete(RC)structures is susceptibility to accumulation of plastic deformation under excessive loads.Many concrete structures due to damaged(yielded)steel reinforcement have undergone costly repairs and replacements.This research presents a new type of shape memory alloy(SMA)-based composite reinforcement with ability to withstand high elongation while exhibiting pseudoelastic behavior.In this study,small diameter SMA wires are embedded in thermoset resin matrix with or without additional glass fibers to develop composite reinforcement.Manufacturing technique of new proposed composite is validated using microscopy images.The proposed SMA-FRP composite square rebars are first fabricated and then embedded in small scale concrete T-beam.3-point bending test is conducted on manufactured RC beam using a cyclic displacement controlled regime until failure.It is found that the SMA-FRP composite reinforcement is able to enhance the performance of concrete member by providing re-centering and crack closing capability.Adeel ZAFAR Bassem ANDRAWES 2013Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2013,7,4:0
