1信贷需求:小额信贷覆盖率的决定因素之一——来自中国北方四县调查的证据显示文摘过去对小额信贷项目覆盖率的研究集中在供给方面,本文应用大规模农户调查的数据,从需求方面研究了中国三个小额信贷项目覆盖率低的问题。研究发现,在中国贫困地区试验的孟加拉乡村银行模式的小额信贷项目不能自动地瞄准贫困地区的贫困人口,许多贫困农户将自身排除在小额信贷市场之外。本文的结论是,尽管中国的小额信贷试点项目没有能自动瞄准贫困地区的贫困户,它们仍然对中国的扶贫做出了积极贡献。为了提高小额信贷项目对贫困人群的覆盖率,需要通过减少对贫困人口的其他约束、依照贫困人群的需要定制小额贷款产品等方式来提高贫困农户对小额贷款的需求。程恩江 Abdullahi D. 2Prevalence and risk factors associated with malaria infection among pregnant women in a semi-urban community of north-western Nigeria显示文摘Background:Malaria during pregnancy remains a serious public health problem,with substantial risks for the mother,her foetus and the newborn.The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of malaria and possible risk factors for malaria infection among pregnant women in a semi-urban area in north-western Nigeria.Pregnant women are among the most susceptible to malaria infection.Knowledge of their malaria infection status is an important yardstick to measure the effectiveness of any malaria control programme.Methods:We conducted a cross sectional study in the semi-urban area of Argungu,Kebbi State Nigeria.Two hundred and fifty five pregnant women were included in the study after informed verbal consent was obtained.For each participant,the socio-demographic profile,stage of pregnancy and attitude to the use of insecticide-treated nets(ITNs)were investigated using a questionnaire.Peripheral blood samples were collected and thick blood smears were prepared and stained with Giemsa stains to check for malaria parasitaemia.The associations between age,education level and use of ITNs with occurrence of malaria infection during pregnancy were analysed using the chi-square test.Results:One hundred and six(41.6%)out of 255 pregnant women were infected with malaria parasites,with a mean parasite density of 800 parasitesμl−1.It was found that prevalence and parasite density decreased as age increased.The chi-square test indicated that a lack of education and non-usage of ITNs were significantly associated with malaria infection.Conclusion:Malaria is still a major public health issue among pregnant women mainly due to illiteracy and non-compliance to using ITNs.Increasing awareness about malaria preventive measures and early attendance of antenatal care services will help to reduce malaria and,consequently,its associated morbidities and mortalities.Sani Abdullahi Fana Mohammed Danladi Abubakar Bunza Sule Aliyu Anka Asiya Umar Imam Shehu Usman Nataala 2015Infectious Diseases of Poverty2015,4,1:4
3In vivo antioxidant effect of aqueous root bark,stem bark and leaves extracts of Vitex doniana in CCl_4 induced liver damage rats显示文摘Objective:The antioxidant effects of aqueous root bark,stem bark and leaves of Vitex doniana(V.doniana)were evaluated in carbon tetrachloride(CCl_4)induced liver damage and non induced liver damage albino rats.Methods:A total of 60 albino rats(36 induced liver damage and 24 non induced liver damage)were assigned into liver damage and non liver damage groups of 6 rats in a group.The animals in the CCl_4 induced liver damage groups,were induced by intraperitoneal injection with a single dose of CCl_4(148mg·ml^(-1)·kg^(-1)body weight)as a 1:1(v/v)solution in olive oil and were fasted for 36 h before the subsequent treatment with aqueous root bark,stem bark and leaves extracts of V.doniana and vitamin E as standard drug(100 mg/kg body weighy per day)for 21 d,while the animals in the non induced groups were only treated with the daily oral administration of these extracts at the same dose.The administration of CCl_4 was done once a week for a period of three weeks.Results:The liver of CCl_4 induced not treated group showed that the induction with CCl_4,significantly(P<0.05)increased thiobarbituric acid reactive substance(TBARS)and significantly(P<0.05)decreased superoxide dismutase(SOD)and catalase(CAT).However there was no significant(P>0.05)difference between TBARS,SOD and CAT in the liver of the induced treated groups and normal control group.In the kidney.TBARS showed no significant(P>0.05)difference between the normal and the induced groups,SOD was significantly(P<0.05)reduced in the CCl_4 group compared to standard drug and normal control groups,CAT was significantly(P<0.05)increased in root and vitamin E groups when compared to induced not treated group.The studies also showed that when the extracts were administered to normal animals,there was no significant(P>0.05)change in the liver and kidney level of TBARS,SOD and CAT compared with the normal control except in the kidney of animals treated with stem extract where TBARS was significantly(P<0.05)lowered compared to control group.Conclusion:The result of the present study suggests that application of V.doniana plant would play an important role in increasing the antioxidant effect and reducing the oxidative damage that formed both in liver and in kidney tissues.However stem bark has potential to improve renal function in normal rats.Kadejo Olubukola Adetoro James Dorcas Bolanle Sallau Balarebe Abdullahi Ozigi Abdulrahaman Ahmed 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,5:4

7Mathematical modeling of COVID-19 epidemic with effect of awareness programs显示文摘Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-COV-2)is a novel virus that emerged in China in late 2019 and caused a pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).The epidemic has largely been controlled in China since March 2020,but continues to inflict severe public health and socioeconomic burden in other parts of the world.One of the major reasons for China’s success for the fight against the epidemic is the effectiveness of its health care system and enlightenment(awareness)programs which play a vital role in the control of the COVID-19 pandemic.Nigeria is currently witnessing a rapid increase of the epidemic likely due to its unsatisfactory health care system and inadequate awareness programs.In this paper,we propose a mathematical model to study the transmission dynamics of COVID-19 in Nigeria.Our model incorporates awareness programs and different hospitalization strategies for mild and severe cases,to assess the effect of public awareness on the dynamics of COVID-19 infection.We fit the model to the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria from 29 March to 12 June 2020.We find that the epidemic could increase if awareness programs are not properly adopted.We presumed that the effect of awareness programs could be estimated.Further,our results suggest that the awareness programs and timely hospitalization of active cases are essential tools for effective control and mitigation of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria and beyond.Finally,we perform sensitive analysis to point out the key parameters that should be considered to effectively control the epidemic.Salihu Sabiu Musa Sania Qureshi Shi Zhao Abdullahi Yusuf Umar Tasiu Mustapha Daihai He 2021Infectious Disease Modelling2021,6,1:3
8PDX通过P38 MAPK通路促进脓毒症性ARDS抗菌肽cathelicidin表达显示文摘目的:探究PDX对脓毒症性ARDS抗菌肽cathelicidin(CAMP)的影响及其具体机制。方法:C57BL/6小鼠行盲肠结扎穿孔术建立脓毒症模型,分为:假手术组(Sham组)、脓毒症组(CLP组)、治疗组(CLP+PDX组)、抑制剂组(CLP+PDX+SB203580组)、溶剂对照组(CLP+PDX+DMSO组)、PDX组。采用HE染色观察肺组织损伤情况,进行肺损伤评分,菌落形成单位(CFU)检测细菌清除情况,qPCR检测肺组织CAMP基因表达情况,Westernblot检测肺组织CAMP蛋白表达以及P38MAPK、ERKMAPK通路激活情况。结果:与Sham组比,CLP组ERKMAPK通路无显著变化,P38MAPK通路受到抑制,CAMP表达显著升高(P<0.05);与CLP组相比,CLP+PDX组小鼠肺组织出血、炎性细胞浸润减轻,CFU显著降低,P38MAPK通路明显活化,且CLP+PDX组中CAMP表达进一步升高(P<0.05)。结论:PDX通过调控P38MAPK通路促进脓毒症性ARDSCAMP的表达。谷丽君 潘静怡 MOHAMED ALI Abdullahi 金胜威 2019温州医科大学学报2019,49,7:3

12Food contamination as a pathway for lead exposure in children during the 2010–2013 lead poisoning epidemic in Zamfara,Nigeria显示文摘In 2010, an estimated 400 to 500 children died of acute lead poisoning associated with artisanal gold mining in Zamfara, Nigeria. Processing of gold ores containing up to 10% lead within residential compounds put residents, especially children, at the highest risk. Principal routes of exposure were incidental ingestion and inhalation of contaminated soil and dusts. Several Nigerian and international health organizations collaborated to reduce lead exposures through environmental remediation and medical treatment. The contribution of contaminated food to total lead exposure was assessed during the environmental health response. Objectives of this investigation were to assess the influence of cultural/dietary habits on lead exposure pathways and estimate the contribution of contaminated food to children's blood lead levels(BLLs). A survey of village dietary practices and staple food lead content was conducted to determine dietary composition, caloric intakes, and lead intake. Potential blood lead increments were estimated using bio-kinetic modeling techniques. Most dietary lead exposure was associated with contamination of staple cereal grains and legumes during post-harvest processing and preparation in contaminated homes. Average post-harvest and processed cereal grain lead levels were 0.32 mg/kg and 0.85 mg/kg dry weight, respectively. Age-specific food lead intake ranged from 7 to 78 μg/day. Lead ingestion and absorption were likely aggravated by the dusty environment, fasting between meals, and nutritional deficiencies. 14内分泌干扰物的环境危害:雌激素及其硫酸盐在土壤中的吸附规律显示文摘雌激素(E1)及其硫酸盐化合物(E1-3S)是能改变生物机体内分泌功能并对机体引起有害效应的内分泌干扰物,主要表现为危害人类的生殖机能、造成发育异常及引发某些癌症等。其大量存在于直接暴露的放牧草场中,主要是动物粪便中。由于雌激素性质不稳定,当被土壤吸附后易被代谢为其他物质,造成了对土壤吸附作用过高的估计,使得难以准确评估其对人体的危害程度。为此,笔者以质量浓度为555mg/L的CaCl2溶液(混合态)以及动物尿液(自由态)2种不同类型溶液作为雌激素载体,研究了尼日利亚纳萨拉瓦州3个不同地区农业土壤介质对不同形态雌激素的吸附规律。结果表明:2类物质的吸附均符合Freundlich非线性等温线过程,土壤对E1-3S的分配系数(2.4~6.4L/kg)比E1(34.2~46.8L/kg)中小一个数量级;3种土壤中,由于有机碳质量分数(分别为Lafia:8.2%;Doma:4%;Azara:5%)、矿物成分以及pH值的不同,致使它们对物质的吸附系数差别较大;雌激素在相同土壤、不同溶液中的吸附系数差别也较大,其在Azara土壤中CaCl2溶液及动物尿液中的分配系数分别为71.7L/kg和39.8L/kg。传统方法中以CaCl2溶液作为载体获得的吸附含量用于评价雌激素污染风险是不合理的,需采用实际载体溶液进行的实验结果才有应用价值。Alkali Mohammed 杨悦锁 杜新强 杨明星 Abdullahi Musaa 2013吉林大学学报(地球科学版)2013,43,2:2
15Assessment of the effectiveness of wood pole repair using FRP considering the impact of climate change on decay and hurricane risk显示文摘Electric power distribution systems are vulnerable to disruption due to severe weather events,especially hurricanes.Such vulnerability is expected to increase over time due to the impact of climate change on hurricanes and the decay of wood poles that support the distribution lines.This study investigates the effectiveness of using fiber-reinforced polymer(FRP)sleeve to reinforce wood poles subjected to decay and hurricane hazard to restore their lost strength and extend their effective service life.The potential impact of climate change on the pole decay rate and the intensity and frequency of hurricanes is also considered.The optimal FRP repair time based on the structural reliability of the poles is also determined.Three locations with varying climates are chosen to evaluate and compare the results:Miami,Charleston,and New York City.The results show that in all three locations,the application of the FRP sleeve can more than double the service life of the pole depending on the time of the repair.The results also show that climate change significantly increases the vulnerability of the pole.The probability of failure of the pole at the end of the 21st century under RCP8.5 emission scenario in Miami,Charleston,and New York City increase by about 30%,70%,and 73%,respectively,compared to a no climate change scenario.If climate change is only assumed to affect the decay of the pole,i.e.,no change in hurricane hazard intensity,the corresponding increases in failure probability are 5%,22%,and 20% in Miami,Charleston,and New York City,respectively.This implies that most of the impact of climate change on pole failure risk is due to the increase in hurricane intensity.The impact of climate change on decay is found to be comparatively small.It increases with time as variation in temperature and precipitation becomes more prominent towards the end of the 21st century.The optimization results show that the optimal FRP repair time depends on how the FRP affects the pole's decay rate.If the FRP can significantly slow down the wood decay rate,the optimal time of repair is at the beginning of the pole's life cycle.If the FRP has no impact on the wood decay rate,it is better to repair the pole after significant decay has occurred.Eric MERSCHMAN Abdullahi M.SALMAN Emilio BASTIDAS-ARTEAGA Yue LI 2020Advances in Climate Change Research2020,11,4:2
