| 1 | Hepatitis E virus: Epidemiology, diagnosis, clinical manifestations, and treatment显示文摘The hepatitis E virus(HEV)is the fifth known form of viral hepatitis and was first recognized as the cause of an epidemic of unexplained acute hepatitis in the early 1980s.Globally,it is one of the most frequent causes of acute viral hepatitis. The majority of HEV infections are asymptomatic and lead to the spontaneous clearance of the virus.Among the eight different genotypes identified to date,HEV genotype 1(HEV1),HEV2,HEV3,and HEV4 are the most frequent genotypes causing infections in humans.HEV1 and HEV2 are prevalent in developing regions and able to result in large-scale outbreaks originating from contaminated water supplies. They are also responsible for severe hepatitis in pregnant patients and infants. In contrast,HEV3 and HEV4 are zoonotic, and the transmission of these genotypes to humans occurs mainly through the fecal contamination of water and consumption of contaminated meat from infected animals.Their main reservoir is the pig,and they are mostly encountered in developed countries. The major risk groups for HEV infection and its ensuing adverse consequences are pregnant women, infants, older people, immunocompromised individuals, patients with underlying chronic liver diseases, and workers that come into close contact with HEV-infected animals. In the clinical perspective,HEV infections have diverse clinical manifestations including acute and self-limiting hepatitis,acute-on-chronic liver disease, chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver failure.Although HEV mainly results in acute selflimiting infection, chronic HEV infection may occur among immunocompromised patients(e.g.,solid-organ transplant recipients).Additionally,HEV-associated extrahepatic manifestations involving various organs have been reported in the last decade, although the causal link for many of them still needs to be proven.Ribavirin and interferon-alpha are the most widely used agents for the treatment of HEV infections with a certain level of success. However, ribavirin is contraindicated in pregnant patients, and interferon-alpha cannot be used in most transplant recipients. Therefore, there is an urgent need for novel antiviral compounds that are safe and effective particularly for patients having contraindications for ribavirin or interferon-alpha and infected by the ribavirinresistant HEV.In this review article,a literature search using PubMed and MEDLINE databases was performed,up to March 2020.Only the articles published in English were reviewed. | Abdullah Tarık Aslan Hatice Yasemin Balaban | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,37: | 15 |
| 2 | Mechanical properties and microstructure of composites produced by recycling metal chips显示文摘In this study, the processing and mechanical properties of porous metal matrix composites(MMCs) composed of spheroidal cast iron chips(GGG40) and bronze chips(CuSn10) and formed by hot isostatic pressing were investigated. Bronze chips(CuSn10) were used as a matrix component, and spheroidal cast iron(GGG40) chips were used as a reinforcement component. The MMCs were produced with different CuSn10 contents(90 wt%, 80 wt%, 70 wt%, and 60 wt%). The hot isostatic pressing process was performed under three different pressures and temperatures. The produced MMCs were characterized using density tests, Brinell hardness tests, and compression tests. In addition, the consolidation mechanism was investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis and scanning electron microscopy. The test results were compared with those for bulk CuSn10 and bulk GGG40. Mechanical tests results revealed that the metallic chips can be recycled by using hot pressing and that the mechanical properties of the produced MMCs were similar to those of bulk CuSn10. XRD and microscopy studies showed that no intermetallic compounds formed between the metallic chips. The results showed that the CuSn10 and GGG40 chips were consolidated by mechanical interlocking. | Abdullah Aslan Aydin Günes Emin Salur Omer Sinan Shin Hakan Burak Karadag Ahmet Akdemir | 2018 | International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2018,25,9: | 1 |
| 5 | Diagnostic value of ABCD2 and ABCD3-Ⅰ risk scoring systems in determining one-month risk of stroke in patients with transient ischemic attack: An observational study显示文摘Objective:To compare the diagnostic value of the ABCD2 and ABCD3-栺scoring systems in predicting the development of a 30-day neurological event in adult patients with transient ischemic attack(TIA)presenting to the emergency department. Methods:The study was observational and prospective and was conducted in a single center. The diagnostic values of the ABCD2 and ABCD3-栺scores in predicting a neurological event within one month were compared in patients diagnosed with TIA in the emergency department. Results:A statistically significant difference was observed between groups with or without stroke within one month in terms of both the ABCD2 and ABCD3-栺scores(P=0.044 and P=0.029,respectively).There was no statistically significant difference between the patients with and without a recurrent TIA within one month in relation to the ABCD2 score(P=0.934),but a statistically significant difference was found in the ABCD3-栺scores of these groups(P<0.001).Conclusions:Both the ABCD2 and ABCD3-栺scoring systems could predict ischemic stroke within 30 days of TIA,the ABCD3-栺score is more effective than the ABCD2 score in the prediction of TIA recurrence. | Tuncay Aslan Serkan Emre Eroğlu Mehmet Muzafferİslam SerdarÖzdemir Gökhan Aksel Abdullah Algın | 2023 | Journal of Acute Disease2023,12,5: | 0 |
