| 1 | Neuroprotective effects of daidzein on focal cerebral ischemia injury in rats显示文摘Daidzein, a plant extract, has antioxidant activity. It is hypothesized, in this study, that daidzein exhibits neuroprotective effects on cerebral ischemia. Rat models of middle cerebral artery occlusion were intraperitoneally administered daidzein. Biochemical and immunohistochemical tests showed that superoxide dismutase and nuclear respiratory factor 1 expression levels in the brain tissue decreased after ischemia and they increased obviously after daidzein administration; malondialdehyde level and apoptosis-related cysteine peptidase caspase-3 and caspase-9 immunoreactivity in the brain tissue increased after ischemia and they decreased obviously after daidzein administration. Hematoxylin-eosin staining and luxol fast blue staining results showed that intraperitoneal administration of daidzein markedly alleviated neuronal damage in the ischemic brain tissue. | 2 | Syringaldehyde exerts neuroprotective effect on cerebral ischemia injury in rats through anti-oxidative and anti-apoptotic properties显示文摘There are few studies on the neuroprotective effects of syringaldehyde in a rat model of cerebral ischemia. The study aimed to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective effects of syringaldehyde on ischemic brain cells. Rat models of cerebral ischemia were intraperitoneally administered syringaldehyde. At 6 and 24 hours after syringaldehyde administration, cell damage in the brain of cerebral ischemia rats was obviously reduced, superoxide dismutase activity and nuclear respiratory factor 1 expression in the brain tissue were markedly increased, malondiadehyde level was obviously decreased, apoptosis-related cysteine peptidase caspase-3 and-9 immunoreactivity was obviously decreased, and neurological function was markedly improved. | 8 | Pentamidine in Pneumocystis jirovecii prophylaxis in heart transplant recipients显示文摘Despite advances in transplantation techniques and the quality of post-transplantation care, opportunistic infections remain an important cause of complications. Pneumocystis jirovecii(P. jirovecii) is an opportunistic organism, represents an important cause of infections in heart transplantation patients. Almost 2% to 10% of patients undergoing cardiac transplantation have Pneumocystis pneumonia. Prophylaxis is essential after surgery. Various prophylaxis regimes had been defined in past and have different advantages. Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole(TMP/SMX) has a key role in prophylaxis against P. jirovecii. Generally, although TMP/SMX is well tolerated, serious side effects have also been reported during its use. Pentamidine is an alternative prophylaxis agent when TMP/SMX cannot be tolerated by the patient. Structurally, pentamidine is an aromatic diamidine compound with antiprotozoal activity. Since it is not effectively absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, it is frequently administered via the intravenous route. Pentamidine can alternatively be administered through inhalation at a monthly dose in heart transplant recipients. Although, the efficiency and safety of this drug is well studied in other types of solid organ transplantations, there are only few data about pentamidine usage in heart transplantation. | 10 | Role of serological rapid antibody test in the management of possible COVID-19 cases显示文摘Although the detection of viral particles by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)is the gold standard diagnostic test for coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),the false-negative results constitute a big challenge.AIM To examine a group of patients diagnosed and treated as possible COVID-19 pneumonia whose multiple nasopharyngeal swab samples were negative for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)by RT-PCR but then serological immunoglobulin M/immunoglobulin G(IgM/IgG)antibody against SARS-CoV-2 were detected by rapid antibody test.METHODS Eighty possible COVID-19 patients who had at least two negative consecutive COVID-19 RT-PCR test and were subjected to serological rapid antibody test were evaluated in this study.RESULTS The specific serological total IgM/IgG antibody against SARS-CoV-2 was detected in twenty-two patients.The mean age of this patient group was 63.2±13.1-yearsold with a male/female ratio of 11/11.Cough was the most common symptom(90.9%).The most common presenting chest computed tomography findings were bilateral ground glass opacities(77.2%)and alveolar consolidations(50.1%).The mean duration of time from appearance of first symptoms to hospital admission,to hospital admission,to treatment duration and to serological positivity were 8.6 d,11.2 d,7.9 d,and 24 d,respectively.Compared with reference laboratory values,serologically positive patients have shown increased levels of acute phase reactants,such as C-reactive protein,ferritin,and procalcitonin and higher inflammatory markers,such as erythrocyte sedimentation rate,lactate dehydrogenase enzyme,and fibrin end-products,such as D-dimer.A left shift on white blood cell differential was observed with increased neutrophil counts and decreased lymphocytes.CONCLUSION Our study demonstrated the feasibility of a COVID-19 diagnosis based on rapid antibody test in the cases of patients whose RT-PCR samples were negative.Detection of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 with rapid antibody test should be included in the diagnostic algorithm in patients with possible COVID-19 pneumonia. | Fatma Yıldırım Pinar Yildiz Gulhan Ozlem Ercen Diken Aylin Capraz Meltem Simsek Berna Botan Yildirim Muhammet Ridvan Taysi Sakine Yilmaz Ozturk Nurcan Demirtas Julide Ergil Adem Dirican Tugce Uzar Irem Karaman Sevket Ozkaya | 2021 | World Journal of Experimental Medicine2021,11,4: | 0 |
| 11 | Morphometric Measurements on Lumbal Vertebras and Its Importance显示文摘Introduction:The skeletal system is examined as upper and lower bones(skeleton appendiculare)and bones from the head to the pelvis(Skeleton axiale).Due to its complex structure and important functions,it is a common area where problems such as instability,pain and dysfunction are caused by both degenerative processes increasing with age and trauma,tumoral and infectious diseases.Materials and Methods:123 lumbar vertebrae dry bone samples were used for the study.When selecting dry bone samples,care was taken to select those without deformity,fracture,pathology and erosion,regardless of age and sex.All measurements were performed using a digital caliper with a precision of 0.01 millimeter(mm).On dry bone samples,parameters such as anterior height of corpus vertebrae,posterior height of corpus vertebrae,transverse diameter in corpus vertebrae superior,transverse length of foramen vertebrae,sagittal length of foramen vertebrae,length between right and left processus transversus,and length between right and left processus mamillaries were measured.Results:According to the measurement results,the mean anterior height of corpus vertebra was 25.79 mm and the mean posterior height of corpus vertebra was 26.08 mm.Corpus vertebra superior transverse diameter is 45.62 mm,corpus vertebra superior sagittal diameter is 31.99 mm.Conclusion:We believe that the measurements obtained in this study will help surgeons for successful operation and anesthesia.We hope that our study will serve as an example and a reliable source for new studies on lumbar vertebrae. | Seher Yılmaz DemetÜnalmış Adem Tokpınar | 2020 | Journal of US-China Medical Science2020,17,2: | 0 |
