| 2 | Assessment of cognitive function in patients with myasthenia gravis显示文摘Aim:During the past decade,there has been an increasing interest in the evaluation of cognitive function in myasthenia gravis(MG),neuromuscular transmission disorder caused by acetylcholine receptor auto-antibodies.However,the results of previous studies on cognition and MG are inconsistent and controversial.This study aimed to evaluate cognition in patients with mild/moderate grades of MG.Methods:This study included 20 patients with MG with a mean age of 28.45±8.89 years and duration of illness of 3.52±1.15 years.Cognition was tested using a sensitive battery of psychometric testing(Mini-mental State Examination[MMSE],Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale 4^(th) edition[SBIS]and Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised[WMS-R])and by recording P300 component of event-related potentials(ERPs),a neurophysiological analog for cognitive function.Results:Compared with healthy subjects(n=20),patients had lower total scores of cognitive testing(MMSE,SBIS and WMS-R)(P=0.001),higher Beck Depression Inventory 2^(nd) edition scores(P=0.0001)and prolonged latencies(P=0.01)and reduced amplitudes(P=0.001)of P300 component of ERPs.Correlations were identified between total scores of cognitive testing and age(r=-0.470,P=0.010),duration of illness(r=-0.788,P=0.001)and depression scores(r=-0.323,P=0.045).Using linear regression analysis and after controlling for age and depression scores,a significant correlation was identified between total scores of cognitive testing and duration of illness(β=-0.305,P=0.045).Conclusion:Patients with mild/moderate MG may have cognitive dysfunction.This is important to determine prognosis and managing patients. | Sherifa A.Hamed Ahmad H.Youssef Mohamad A.Abd ElHameed Mohamed F.Mohamed Amal M.Elattar | 2014 | Neuroimmunology and Neuroinflammation2014,1,1: | 1 |

| 5 | Pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate and saxagliptin ameliorate ulcerative colitis in rats显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the antioxidant, immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory activities of pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate and saxagliptin in rats with thioacetamide-induced ulcerative colitis. Methods: Animals were orally administered with a vehicle, sulfasalazine(500 mg/kg), pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate(100 mg/kg), and saxagliptin(10 mg/kg) for two weeks. Ulcerative colitis was induced by a single intrarectal instillation of thioacetamide on day 8. Colon samples were collected to assess mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK), phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK), c AMP response element-binding protein(CREB), interleukin-12(IL-12), caspase-3, β-defensin, inducible nitric oxide synthase(i NOS) and glucagon like peptide-1(GLP-1). Moreover, histopathological examination was performed. Results: Rats treated with thioacetamide caused increases in colonic MAPK, phosphorylated ERK, CREB, caspase-3, IL-12, β-defensin, i NOS, as well as decreases in body weight and GLP-1. In addition, distortion of colonic structure was found by histopathological examination. Pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate and saxagliptin mitigated colitis severity by improving body weight decrease and GLP-1, and reducing colonic MAPK, phosphorylated ERK, CREB, caspase-3, IL-12, β-defensin and i NOS. | 8 | Comparative study of natural chemical for enhanced oil recovery: Focus on extraction and adsorption at quartz sand surface显示文摘In chemical enhanced oil recovery(CEOR),it is very important to utilize the excessive usage of chemicals.A great opportunity lies in adopting natural surfactants,since it is cheaper,ecosystem friendly,and less toxic than their counterpart synthetic surfactants.Despite the availability of natural surfactant sources,it is yet very early to decide on their applicability.Therefore,this research focuses on natural-saponin extracted from different raw materials available in the Middle East and their interaction with quartz-sand.A special focus was given to the adsorption isotherm models to describe the interaction with the reservoir rocks.Three raw materials were investigated are fenugreek,sugar beet leaves and chickpeas.The main extraction method employed was the chemical extraction using the soxhelet.The study used Uv–vis spectrometer to investigate the micellization behaviour and the consequent adsorption on quartz-sand.The presence of triterpenoid saponin is found dominant in all the sample,the intensity and purity differed according to the raw material source.Tthe critical micelle concentration(CMC)was at a close range of 4–5.5 wt%in all the samples.The highest adsorption was obtained by sugar beet leaves which is 192 g/kg.It is 25%and 37%higher than the Fenugreek and chickpeas,respectively.Increasing the salinity resulted in adsorption reduction between 2%and 56%.For the adsorption isotherms,it showed good agreement with the Langmuir model fitting.The remarkable finding is that the sugar beet leaves heterogeneous model seems to be valid by Frendluich and Halsey isotherms. | Azza Hashim Abbas Ramzi A.Abd Alsaheb Jaafar Kamil Abdullah | 2023 | Petroleum2023,9,1: | 0 |
