6Re-Os isotopes and PGE geochemistry of black shales and intercalated Ni-Mo polymetallic sulfide bed from the Lower Cambrian Niutitang Formation, South China显示文摘The Lower Cambrian Niutitang Formation consists of a thick black shale sequence with a regionally distributed conformable Ni Mo polymetallic sulfide horizon and a chert bed at its basal strata on theYangtze Platform, South China. In this paper, we discuss all available data on Re Os isotopes and Platinum Group Element (PGE) distribution pattern of the Ni Mo polymetallic sulfide ore and its host rocks (black shales, cherts, and phosphorites) from Guizhou and Hunan provinces. Our results show that the black shales and the Ni Mo sulfide ore have a high initial 187 Os/ 188 Os ratio of 0.78~0.86, indicating that the Early Cambrian ocean across the Yangtze Platform had a highly radiogenic Os value. This ratio is slightly lower than but still similar to present day seawater, possibly as a result of high continental weathering at that time. The Ni Mo sulfide ore yields a Re Os isochron of 537±10 Ma (MSWD=11.9), possibly representing the depositional age of the Niutitang Formation. The chondrite normalized PGE pattern, Pt anomaly (Pt/Pt *), Pt/Pd, Ir/Pd, Au/Ir and Re/Mo ratios of the Ni Mo sulfide ore and its host rocks from South China indicate a varying source contribution of the PGE and other metals for different rocks. 7Sinian-Cambrian stratigraphic framework for shallow-to deep-water environments of the Yangtze Platform: an integrated approach显示文摘The Sinian (Terminal Proterozoic) and Early Cambrian shallow to deep water sequences of the Yangtze Platform were investigated. Based on integrated lithostratigraphic, biostratigraphic, and other approaches, the shallow water sequence from the base of the Sinian (base of the Doushantuo Formation) to the top of the Qiongzhusian (top of the Yu’anshan Formation) was subdivided into 12 stratigraphic intervals. These 12 intervals were applied in turn to the subdivision and correlation of the sequences present in various facies of the Yangtze Platform. 10Effect of Graphene Nanoplatelets addition on mechanical properties of pure aluminum using a semi-powder method显示文摘In recent years, graphene has attracted considerable research interest in all fields of science due to its unique properties. Its excellent mechanical properties lead it to be used in nano-composites for strength enhancement. This paper reports an Aluminum–Graphene Nanoplatelets(Al/GNPs)composite using a semi-powder method followed by hot extrusion. The effect of GNP nano-particle integration on tensile, compressive and hardness response of Al is investigated in this paper. It is demonstrated that 0.3 wt% Graphene Nanoplatelets distributed homogeneously in the matrix aluminum act as an effective reinforcing filler to prevent deformation. Compared to monolithic aluminum(in tension), Al–0.3 wt% GNPs composite exhibited higher 0.2% yield strength(+14.7%), ultimate tensile strength(+11.1%) and lower failure strain( -40.6%). Surprisingly, compared to monolithic Al(in compression), Al–0.3 wt% GNPs composite exhibited same 0.2% compressive yield strength and lower ultimate compression strength(- 7.8%),and lower failure strain(- 20.2%). 13Impact chaos control and stress release——A key for development of ultra fine vibration milling显示文摘Through our previous experimental and analytical studies, it has been discovered that the key for the development of vibration milling is the impact chaos control and stress release. The necessities for the chaos control and stress release are: (i) to strictly eliminate the sub-harmonics; (ii) to control the super-harmonics to a lower level and (iii) to load the system compressively with relatively higher period, in order that the vibration energy can be absorbed by the particles effectively and sufficiently. 17Efficient indica and japonica rice identification based on the InDel molecular method:Its implication in rice breeding and evolutionary research显示文摘An efficient molecular method for the accurate and efficient identification of indica and japonica rice was created based on the poly-morphisms of insertion/deletion(InDel) DNA fragments obtained from the basic local alignment search tool(BLAST) to the entire genomic sequences of indica(93-11) and japonica rice(Nipponbare).The 45 InDel loci were validated experimentally by the polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(PAGE) in 44 typical indica and japonica rice varieties,including 93-11 and Nipponbare.A neutrality test of the data matrix generated from electrophoretic banding patterns of various InDel loci indicated that 34 InDel loci were strongly associated with the differentiation of indica and japonica rice.More extensive analyses involving cultivated rice varieties from 11 Asian countries,and 12 wild Oryza species with various origins confirmed that indica and japonica characteristics could accurately be determined via calculating the average frequency of indica-or japonica-specific alleles on different InDel loci across the rice genome.This method was named as the ''InDel molecular index' that combines molecular and statistical methods in determining the indica and japonica characteristics of rice varieties.Compared with the traditional methods based essentially on morphology,the InDel molecular index provides a very accurate,rapid,simple,and efficient method for identifying indica and japonica rice.In addition,the InDel index can be used to determine indica or japonica characteristics of wild Oryza species,which largely extends the utility of this method.The InDel molecular index provides a new tool for the effective selection of appropriate indica or japonica rice germplasm in rice breeding.It also offers a novel model for the study of the origin,evolution,and genetic differentiation of indica and japonica rice adapted to various environmental changes.Bao-Rong Lu Xingxing Cai Xin Jin 2009Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2009,19,10:40
18Risk assessment and validation of flood disaster based on fuzzy mathematics显示文摘Floods often take place around rivers and plains,which indicates a higher risk of flooding in these areas.This paper adopts fuzzy comprehensive assessment(FCA),simple fuzzy classification(SFC),and the fuzzy similarity method(FSM) to assess flood disaster risk in Kelantan,Malaysia.Validation data,such as the flooded area,paddy area,urban area,residential area,and refuges,were overlaid to validate and analyze the accuracy of flood disaster risk.The results show that(1) 70-75% of flooded areas lie within the higher and high-est risk zones,which shows an effective assessment accuracy;(2) paddy,built-up,and residential areas concentrated in the higher and highest risk zones are more likely to be destroyed by flood disasters;(3) 200-225 refuges in the higher and highest risk zones account for around 50% of all refuges,which means that more refuges should be built in the higher and highest risk zones to meet the accommodation requirement;(4) three methods proved to be feasible and effective in evaluating flood disaster risk,among which FCA is more suitable for the study area than the two other methods.Weiguo Jiang Lei Deng Luyao Chen Jianjun Wu Jing Li 2009Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2009,19,10:35
19Mitigation of lake eutrophication:Loosen nitrogen control and focus on phosphorus abatement显示文摘Traditionally,nitrogen control is generally considered an important component of reducing lake eutrophication and cyanobacteria blooms.However,this viewpoint is refuted recently by researchers in China and North America.In the present paper,the traditional viewpoint of nitrogen control is pointed out to lack a scientific basis:the N/P hypothesis is just a subjective assumption;bottle bioassay experiments fail to simulate the natural process of nitrogen fixation.Our multi-year comparative research in more than 40 Yangtze lakes indicates that phosphorus is the key factor determining phytoplankton growth regardless of nitrogen concentrations and that total phytoplankton biomass is determined by total phosphorus and not by total nitrogen concentrations.These results imply that,in the field,nitrogen control will not decrease phytoplankton biomass.This finding is supported by a long-term whole-lake experiment from North America.These outcomes can be generalized in terms that a reduction in nitrogen loading may not decrease the biomass of total phy-toplankton as it can stimulate blooms of nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria.To mitigate eutrophication,it is not nitrogen but phosphorus that should be reduced,unless nitrogen concentrations are too high to induce direct toxic impacts on human beings or other organisms.Finally,details are provided on how to reduce controls on nitrogen and how to mitigate eutrophication.Haijun Wang,Hongzhu Wang Institute of Hydrobiology,The Chinese Academy of Sciences,Wuhan 430072,China 2009Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2009,19,10:38
