| 1 | Recent advances and applications of machine learning in solidstate materials science显示文摘One of the most exciting tools that have entered the material science toolbox in recent years is machine learning.This collection of statistical methods has already proved to be capable of considerably speeding up both fundamental and applied research.At present,we are witnessing an explosion of works that develop and apply machine learning to solid-state systems.We provide a comprehensive overview and analysis of the most recent research in this topic.As a starting point,we introduce machine learning principles,algorithms,descriptors,and databases in materials science.We continue with the description of different machine learning approaches for the discovery of stable materials and the prediction of their crystal structure.Then we discuss research in numerous quantitative structure–property relationships and various approaches for the replacement of first-principle methods by machine learning.We review how active learning and surrogate-based optimization can be applied to improve the rational design process and related examples of applications.Two major questions are always the interpretability of and the physical understanding gained from machine learning models.We consider therefore the different facets of interpretability and their importance in materials science.Finally,we propose solutions and future research paths for various challenges in computational materials science. | Jonathan Schmidt Mário R.G.Marques Silvana Botti Miguel A.L.Marques | 2019 | npj Computational Materials2019,,1: | 49 |
| 2 | Integrated physiologic,proteomic,and metabolomic analyses of Malus halliana adaptation to saline–alkali stress显示文摘Saline–alkali stress is a severely adverse abiotic stress limiting plant growth.Malus halliana Koehne is an apple rootstock that is tolerant to saline–alkali stress.To understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the tolerance of M.halliana to saline–alkali stress,an integrated metabolomic and proteomic approach was used to analyze the plant pathways involved in the stress response of the plant and its regulatory mechanisms.A total of 179 differentially expressed proteins(DEPs)and 140 differentially expressed metabolites(DEMs)were identified.We found that two metabolite-related enzymes(PPD and PAO)were associated with senescence and involved in porphyrin and chlorophyll metabolism;six photosynthesis proteins(PSAH2,PSAK,PSBO2,PSBP1,and PSBQ2)were significantly upregulated,especially PSBO2,and could act as regulators of photosystem II(PSII)repair.Sucrose,acting as a signaling molecule,directly mediated the accumulation of D-phenylalanine,tryptophan,and alkaloid(vindoline and ecgonine)and the expression of proteins related to aspartate and glutamate(ASP3,ASN1,NIT4,and GLN1−1).These responses play a central role in maintaining osmotic balance and removing reactive oxygen species(ROS).In addition,sucrose signaling induced flavonoid biosynthesis by activating the expression of CYP75B1 to regulate the homeostasis of ROS and promoted auxin signaling by activating the expression of T31B5_170 to enhance the resistance of M.halliana to saline–alkali stress.The decrease in peroxidase superfamily protein(PER)and ALDH2C4 during lignin synthesis further triggered a plant saline–alkali response.Overall,this study provides an important starting point for improving saline–alkali tolerance in M.halliana via genetic engineering. | Xu-mei Jia Yan-fang Zhu Ya Hu Rui Zhang Li Cheng Zu-lei Zhu Tong Zhao Xiayi Zhang Yan-xiu Wang | 2019 | Horticulture Research2019,6,1: | 9 |
| 3 | Dynamic changes in proteins during apple(Malus x domestica)fruit ripening and storage显示文摘A proteomic study,using two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight/time-of-flight,was conducted in apple fruit(cv.‘Golden Delicious’)starting at 10 days prior to harvest through 50 days in storage.Total protein was extracted using a phenol/sodium dodecyl sulfate protocol.More than 400 protein spots were detected in each gel and 55 differentially expressed proteins(p,0.05)were subjected to matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight/time-of-flight analysis.Fifty-three of these proteins were finally identified using an apple expressed sequence tag database downloaded from Genome Database for Rosaceae and placed into six categories.The categories and the percentage of proteins placed in each category were stress response and defense(49.0%),energy and metabolism(34.0%),fruit ripening and senescence(5.6%),signal transduction(3.8%),cell structure(3.8%)and protein synthesis(3.8%).Proteins involved in several multiple metabolic pathways,including glycolysis,pentose–phosphate pathway,anti-oxidative systems,photosynthesis and cell wall synthesis,were downregulated,especially during the climacteric burst in respiration and during the senescent stages of fruit development.Proteins classified as allergens or involved in cell wall degradation were upregulated during the ripening process.Some protein spots exhibited a mixed pattern(increasing to maximal abundance followed by a decrease),such as 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate oxidase,L-ascorbate peroxidase and abscisic acid response proteins.The identification of differentially expressed proteins associated with physiological processes identified in the current study provides a baseline of information for understanding the metabolic processes and regulatory mechanisms that occur in climacteric apple fruit during ripening and senescence. | Yun Shi Li Jiang Li Zhang Ruoyi Kang Zhifang Yu | 2014 | Horticulture Research2014,1,1: | 8 |

| 7 | Effects of hydrocarbon physical properties on caprock’s capillary sealing ability显示文摘A new mechanics formula of caprock’s capillary sealing ability has been established in this paper, in which the boundary layer resistance was considered and characterized by starting pressure gradient. The formula shows that capillary sealing ability of caprock is determined not only by the capillary force of rock and the buoyancy of hydrocarbon column, but also by the starting pressure gradient of hydrocarbons and the thickness of caprock. The buoyancy of hydrocarbon column, the starting pressure gradient of hydrocarbon, and the capillary force of caprock are affected by hydrocarbon density, hydrocarbon viscosity, and hydrocarbon-water interface tension respectively. Based on hydrocarbon property data of reservoirs of Jiyang Depression and equations from literature, the effects of hydrocarbon density, hydrocarbon viscosity, and hydrocarbon-water interface tension on the sealing ability of caprock are analyzed. Under formational conditions, the sealing ability of oil caprock can vary up to dozens times because of the variations of the oil density, oil viscosity, and oil-water interface tension. Thus, the physical characters of hydrocarbon should be considered when evaluating the capillary sealing ability of caprocks. | 8 | Applying an ecosystem services approach to support land-use planning:a case study in Koboko district,Uganda显示文摘Introduction:This paper presents a case study of the application of an ecosystem services framework to support land-use planning.The district of Koboko,in northwestern Uganda,formed the study area.The overall purpose was to improve the understanding of links between human actions,their impact on ecosystems and the services they provide,and,ultimately,consequences for human wellbeing.The framework developed by the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment was used as a main conceptual reference.The analysis comprised four main stages:(1)identification of the main ecosystems and their services;(2)analysis of human wellbeing components,focusing on poverty issues;(3)assessment of the interrelations between ecosystem services and human wellbeing;(4)identification of the main drivers of change and development of future spatial development scenarios.Results:The scenarios were developed starting from the main drivers of change and show the dependency of human wellbeing on ecosystems services,identifying how spatial development strategies can affect that dependency.Quantitative information was not easily available,therefore scenario development made use of both quantitative and qualitative analysis.The results of qualitative and quantitative approaches were consistent,proving the strength and flexibility of the method.Conclusions:Scenario results aim to provide guidance for local government land-use planning,focusing on the promotion of sustainability through ecosystem services preservation.The spatially explicit analysis illustrated how different policies affect urban development;it was clearly shown that even with very different demographic outcomes,the impact of sectorial policies guaranteed a good level of suitability for new residential areas. | Lighea Speziale Davide Geneletti | 2014 | Ecological Processes2014,3,1: | 4 |

| 10 | Gap-free genome assembly and comparative analysis reveal the evolution and anthocyanin accumulation mechanism of Rhodomyrtus tomentosa显示文摘Rhodomyrtus tomentosa is an important f leshy-fruited tree and a well-known medicinal plant of the Myrtaceae family that is widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical areas of the world.However,studies on the evolution and genomic breeding of R.tomentosa were hindered by the lack of a reference genome.Here,we presented a chromosome-level gap-free T2T genome assembly of R.tomentosa using PacBio and ONT long read sequencing.We assembled the genome with size of 470.35 Mb and contig N50 of∼43.80 Mb with 11 pseudochromosomes.A total of 33382 genes and 239.31 Mb of repetitive sequences were annotated in this genome.Phylogenetic analysis elucidated the independent evolution of R.tomentosa starting from 14.37MYA and shared a recent WGD event with other Myrtaceae species.We identified four major compounds of anthocyanins and their synthetic pathways in R.tomentosa.Comparative genomic and gene expression analysis suggested the coloring and high anthocyanin accumulation in R.tomentosa tends to be determined by the activation of anthocyanin synthesis pathway.The positive selection and up-regulation of MYB transcription factors were the implicit factors in this process.The copy number increase of downstream anthocyanin transport-related OMT and GST gene were also detected in R.tomentosa.Expression analysis and pathway identification enriched the importance of starch degradation,response to stimuli,effect of hormones,and cell wall metabolism during the f leshy fruit development in Myrtaceae.Our genome assembly provided a foundation for investigating the origins and differentiation of Myrtaceae species and accelerated the genetic improvement of R.tomentosa. | angping Li Shiqiang Xu Zitong Xiao Jingming Wang Yu Mei Haifei Hu Jingyu Li Jieying Liu Zhuangwei Hou Junliang Zhao Shaohai Yang Jihua Wang | 2023 | Horticulture Research2023,10,3: | 3 |

In order to analyse the self-starting performance of the Wells turbine in regular and irregular waves, a mathematical model was established to simulate the self-starting process of the Wells turbine in regular and irregular oscillating air flows. Based on the turbine’s force coefficients and the restraint moment function of electric generator, the self-starting performance was investigated in different oscillating air flow conditions and the turbine’s inertia. Digit results show that the self- starting time is shortened with the increase of the amplitude of oscillating air flow or the decrease of the period of oscillating air flow and the turbine’s iner tia.
