AN ANALYTICAL SOLUTION TO LONGITUDINAL VIBRATION OF A PILE OF ARBITRARY SEGMENTS WITH VARIABLE MODULUS显示文摘The vibration problem of a pile of arbitrary segments with variable modulus under exciting force is established, in which the influence of the soil under pile toe and the surroundings is taken into account. With Laplace transforms, the transmit functions for velocity and displacement of pile are derived. Furthermore, in terms of the convolution theorem and inversed Laplace transform, an analytical solution for the time domain response of a pile subjected to a semi-sine impulse is developed, which is the theoretical basis of the sonic method in pile integrity testing. Based on the solution, the vibration properties of pile with sharp or continuous modulus are studied. The validity of this approach is verified through fidd dynamic tests on some engineering piles. It shows that the theoretical prediction and the response of the pile are in good agreement.Wang Teng Wang Kuihua Xie Kanghe 2001Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2001,14,1:27
Reliability-Based Design for Jacket Platform Under Extreme Loads显示文摘In this paper, reliability analysis for the offshore jacket platform with the interaction of structure- pile- soil under extreme environmental loads is carried out. The inherent uncertainties of the environmental load, foundation soil, platform itself, and calculating models are evaluated. The action of extreme loads on the offshore platform is modeled as a function of extreme wave height. The system capacity of the whole platform is determined by nonlinear pushover analysis, and the relevant probability property is obtained by the simulation method. The reliability model for the whole jacket platform is described as the relationship between the load and resistance based on the offshore design codes. The reliability of whole platform is calculated by the analytical method and the importance sampling method on the basis of a case study for a tripod jacket platform.Jin Weiliang Associate Professor, Dr. -Eng., Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310027 1996China Ocean Engineering1996,11,2:17
Numerical simulations of shake-table experiment for dynamic soil-pile-structure interaction in liquefi able soils显示文摘A shake-table experiment on pile foundations in liquefi able soils composed of liquefi able sand and overlying soft clay is studied. A three-dimensional(3D) effective stress fi nite element(FE) analysis is employed to simulate the experiment. A recently developed multi-surface elasto-plastic constitutive model and a fully coupled dynamic inelastic FE formulation(u-p) are used to model the liquefaction behavior of the sand. The soil domains are discretized using a solid-fl uid fully coupled(u-p) 20-8 noded brick element. The pile is simulated using beam-column elements. Upon careful calibration, very good agreement is obtained between the computed and the measured dynamic behavior of the ground and the pile. A parametric analysis is also conducted on the model to investigate the effect of pile-pinning, pile diameter, pile stiffness, ground inclination angle, superstructure mass and pile head restraints on the ground improvement. It is found that the pile foundation has a noticeable pinning effect that reduces the lateral soil displacement. It is observed that a larger pile diameter and fi xed pile head restraints contribute to decreasing the lateral pile deformation; however, a higher ground inclination angle tends to increase the lateral pile head displacements and pile stiffness, and superstructure mass seems to effectively infl uence the lateral pile displacements.Tang Liang Baydaa Hussain Maula Ling Xianzhang Su Lei 2014Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2014,13,1:13
Self-organized criticality and its application in the slope disasters under gravity显示文摘Firstly, three kinds of sand pile experiments which reflect the universal process of energy dissipation within the slope accumulation under the self-organized action are reviewed. They all show that self-organized criticality (SOC) is related to granular non-uniform. The experiment of Tokamak plasma system is introduced, which shows some of SOC properties of Tokamak plasmas in Ohmic region or L-mode. Secondly, material tests in geotechnical engineering and numerical simulations of micro-structure of sand piles indicate that SOC is determined by the structural characteristics. Finally, according to the principle of SOC, the behavior of slope disasters under gravity and its forecast as well as the design of protection engineering are discussed.YAO Lingkan, HUANG Yuan & LU Yang School of Civil Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu 610031, China Southwestern Institute of Physics, Chengdu 610031, China 2003Science China(Technological Sciences)2003,46,z1:10
Dynamic response of a slope reinforced by double-row antisliding piles and pre-stressed anchor cables显示文摘Large-scale shaking table tests were conducted to study the dynamic response of a slope reinforced by double-row anti-sliding piles and prestressed anchor cables. The test results show that the reinforcement suppressed the acceleration amplification effectively. The axial force time histories are decomposed into a baseline part and a vibration part in this study. The baseline part of axial force well revealed the seismic slope stability, the peak vibration values of axial force of the anchor cables changed significantly in different area of the slope under seismic excitations. The peak lateral earth pressure acting on the back of the anti-sliding pile located at the slope toe was much larger than that acting on the back of the anti-sliding pile located at the slope waist. The test results indicate an obvious load sharing ratio difference between these two anti-slide piles, the load sharing ratio between the two anti-sliding piles located at the slope toe and the slope waist varied mainly in a range of 2-5. The anti-slide pile at the slope waist suppressed the horizontal displacement of the slope surface.FAN Gang ZHANG Jian-jing QI Shun-chao WU Jin-biao 2019Journal of Mountain Science2019,16,1:8
Time-domain solution for transient dynamic response of a large-diameter thin-walled pipe pile显示文摘The propagation of stress waves in a large-diameter pipe pile for low strain dynamic testing cannot be explained properly by traditional 1D wave theories. A new computational model is established to obtain a wave equation that can describe the dynamic response of a large-diameter thin-walled pipe pile to a transient point load during a low strain integrity test. An analytical solution in the time domain is deduced using the separation of variables and variation of constant methods. The validity of this new solution is verifi ed by an existing analytical solution under free boundary conditions. The results of this time domain solution are also compared with the results of a frequency domain solution and fi eld test data. The comparisons indicate that the new solution agrees well with the results of previous solutions. Parametric studies using the new solution with reference to a case study are also carried out. The results show that the mode number affects the accuracy of the dynamic response. A mode number greater than 10 is required to enable the calculated dynamic responses to be independent of the mode number. The dynamic response is also greatly affected by soil properties. The larger the side resistance, the smaller the displacement response and the smaller the refl ected velocity wave crest. The displacement increases as the stress waves propagate along the pile when the pile shaft is free. The incident waves of displacement and velocity responses of the pile are not the same among different points in the circumferential direction on the pile top. However, the arrival time and peak value of the pile tip refl ected waves are almost the same among different points on the pile top.Ding Xuanming Liu Hanlong Chu Jian Cheng Ke 2015Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2015,14,2:8
Multifield coupling model and its applications for pile foundation in permafrost显示文摘Importing the interface element which links the frozen soil base with concrete piles and considering the couplings of stress field, temperature field and moisture field, this paper es- tablishes the nonlinear visco-elastic plastic finite element model of pile-soil. For a practical bridge structure the stress field and displacement field of single pile in freezing process are calculated. This paper emphatically studies the process of the tangential frost heave stress field, freezing stress field and displacement field varying with time, and ulteriorly studies time variation process of single pile carrying capacity in freezing process.WU Yaping1,2, ZHU Yuanlin2, GUO Chunxiang1, SU Qiang1 & MA Wei2 1. 8Response of single piles and pipelines in liquefaction-induced lateral spreads using controlled blasting显示文摘Two full-scale experiments using controlled blasting were conducted in the Port of Tokachi on Hokkaido Island,Japan, to assess the behavior of piles and pipelines subjected to lateral spreading. Test specimens were extensively instrumented with strain gauges to measure the distribution of moment during lateral spreading. This allowed us to compute the loading condition, as well as to conduct damage and performance assessments on the piles and pipelines. This paper presents the test results and discussions on the response of single piles and pipelines observed from the full-scale experiments. Based on the test results, it can be concluded that using controlled blasting successfully liquefied the soil, and subsequently induced lateral spreading. The movements of the single pile, as well as the transverse pipelines, were approximately the same as the free field soil movement. Observed moment distribution of the single pile indicated that global translation of the liquefied soil layer provided insignificant force to the pile. In addition, the degree of fixity at the pile tip significantly affected the moment along the pile as well as the pile head displacement. The pile with a higher degree of fixity at the pile tip had smaller pile head displacement but larger maximum moment.Scott A.Ashford Teerawut Juirnarongrit 2002Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2002,1,2:7
Influence of vertical loads on lateral response of pile foundations in sands and clays显示文摘Although the load applied to pile foundations is usually a combination of vertical and lateral components, there have been few investigations on the behavior of piles subjected to combined loadings. Those few studies led to inconsistent results with regard to the effects of vertical loads on the lateral response of piles.A series of three-dimensional(3D) finite differences analyses is conducted to evaluate the influence of vertical loads on the lateral performance of pile foundations.Three idealized sandy and clayey soil profiles are considered:a homogeneous soil layer,a layer with modulus proportional to depth, and two-layered strata. The pile material is modeled as linearly elastic, while the soil is idealized using the Mohr-Coulomb constitutive model with a non-associated flow rule.In order to confirm the findings of this study, soils in some cases are further modeled using more sophisticated models(i.e.CYsoil model for sandy soils and modified Cam-Clay(MCC) model for clayey soils).Numerical results showed that the lateral resistance of the piles does not appear to vary considerably with the vertical load in sandy soil especially at the loosest state. However, the presence of a vertical load on a pile embedded in homogeneous or inhomogeneous clay is detrimental to its lateral capacity, and it is unconservative to design piles in clays assuming that there is no interaction between vertical and lateral loads. Moreover, the current results indicate that the effect of vertical loads on the lateral response of piles embedded in twolayered strata depends on the characteristics of soil not only surrounding the piles but also located beneath their tips.Lassaad Hazzar Mahmoud N.Hussien Mourad Karray 2017Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2017,9,2:7
An Approach to Stability Analysis of Embedded Large-Diameter Cylinder Quay显示文摘The large-diameter cylinder structure, which is made of large successive bottomless cylinders placed on foundationbed or partly driven into soil, is a recently developed retaining structure in China. It can be used in port, coastal and off-shore works. The method for stability analysis of the large-diameter cylinder structure, especially for stability analysis ofthe embedded large-diameter cylinder structure, is an important issue. In this paper, an idea is presented that is, em-bedded large-diameter cylinder quays can be divided into two types, i.e. the gravity wall type and the cylinder pile walltype. A method for stability analysis of the large-diameter cylinder quay of the cylinder pile wall type is developed and amethod for stability analysis of the large-diameter cylinder quay of the gravity wall type is also proposed. The effect of sig-nificant parameters on the stability of the large-dianeter cylinder quay of the cylinder pile wall type is investigated throughnumerical calculation.WANG Yuanzhan(王元战) ZHU Zhenyu(祝振宇) 2002China Ocean Engineering2002,17,3:7
Anchoring Depth Research of Anti-Slide Piles of Anchor Bar in Soil显示文摘The model test result of earth force in the side of anti-slide pile of anchor bars was introduced. There are three groups of the tests. The loads were on the back side of the slope in two groups. The other one was loaded just behind the pile by the jack.In order to get the force of the soil, some earth-pressure boxes were used to get the earth pressure on the side of the piles. The part of the max pressure and the earth pressure was mainly focused under the slip lineXunchang Li,Yuming Men School of Geological Engineering and Surveying Engineering,Chang’an University,Xi’an 710054,China. 2009地学前缘2009,16,S1:6
Development technology of rigidity-drain pile and numerical analysis of its anti-liquefaction characteristics显示文摘Pile foundation is widely used in the offshore engineering. The pile can be seriously destroyed by the soil liquefaction during strong earthquakes. The potentials of liquefaction and damages of pile foundation due to the liquefaction can be reduced by the implementation of the drainage in the liquefiable foundation. A patented pile technology, named rigidity-drain pile, was introduced. The partial section of the pile body was filled by materials with higher penetrability which forms some effective drainage channels in the pile. The principles and construction methods were presented. 3D models for both rigidity-drain pile and ordinary pile were built in FLAC3D code. The dynamic loadings were applied on the bottom of the model. According to the numerical results, in the case of the rigidity-drain pile, the water in the relevant distance range around the pile flows toward the pile drainage, the contour of the pore pressure shows a funnel form. Contrast to the ordinary pile, the rigidity-drain pile can dissipate the accumulated excess pore water, maintain effective stress and obviously reduce the possibility of surrounding soil liquefaction.刘汉龙 陈育民 赵楠 2008Journal of Central South University2008,15,S2:6
Effect of sediment on vertical dynamic impedance of rock-socketed pile with large diameter显示文摘Based on the fictitious soil pile model, the effect of sediment on the vertical dynamic impedance of rock-socketed pile with large diameter was theoretically studied by means of Laplace transform technique and impedance function transfer method. Firstly, the sediment under rock-socketed pile was assumed to be fictitious soil pile with the same sectional area. The Rayleigh-Love rode model was used to simulate the rock-socketed pile and the fictitious soil pile with the consideration of the lateral inertial effect of large-diameter pile. The layered surrounding soils and bedrock were modeled by the plane strain model. Then, by virtue of the initial conditions and boundary conditions of the soil pile system, the analytical solution of the vertical dynamic impedance at the head of rock-socketed pile was derived for the arbitrary excitation acting on the pile head. Lastly, based on the presented analytical solution, the effect of sediment properties, bedrock property and lateral inertial effect on the vertical dynamic impedance at rock-socketed pile head were investigated in detail. It is shown that the sediment properties have significant effect on the vertical dynamic impedance at the rock-socketed pile head. The ability of soil-pile system to resist dynamic vertical deformation is weakened with the increase of sediment thickness, but amplified with the increase of shear wave velocity of sediment. The ability of soil pile system to resist dynamic vertical deformation is amplified with the bedrock property improving, but the ability of soil-pile system to resist vertical vibration is weakened with the improvement of bedrock property.俞缙 蔡燕燕 吴文兵 2013Journal of Central South University2013,20,10:6

Application of PCC pile in soil improvement of highway显示文摘The construction process and load-bearing behaviors of Cast-in-place concrete thin-wall pipe piles are analyzed based on its application on Yantong Expressway Project. The low strain test, static load test and field excavation were also carried out, and the bearing capacity of the new pile can meet the requirements of design. With the increase of pile diameter, the bearing capacity is increased. The settlement of composite foundation is decreased, when the replacement ratio of pile is increased. The test results also show that the load carried by inner soils is neglectable. According to the tests and application, it can be concluded that the new type of pile is convenient to construction with high bearing capacity and reliable quality, which has great potential in practical engineering.刘芝平 刘汉龙 谭慧明 2008Journal of Central South University2008,15,S2:4
Earthquake damage potential and critical scour depth of bridges exposed to flood and seismic hazards under lateral seismic loads显示文摘Many bridges located in seismic hazard regions suffer from serious foundation exposure caused by riverbed scour. Loss of surrounding soil significantly reduces the lateral strength of pile foundations. When the scour depth exceeds a critical level, the strength of the foundation is insufficient to withstand the imposed seismic demand, which induces the potential for unacceptable damage to the piles during an earthquake. This paper presents an analytical approach to assess the earthquake damage potential of bridges with foundation exposure and identify the critical scour depth that causes the seismic performance of a bridge to differ from the original design. The approach employs the well-accepted response spectrum analysis method to determine the maximum seismic response of a bridge. The damage potential of a bridge is assessed by comparing the imposed seismic demand with the strengths of the column and the foundation. The versatility of the analytical approach is illustrated with a numerical example and verified by the nonlinear finite element analysis. The analytical approach is also demonstrated to successfully determine the critical scour depth. Results highlight that relatively shallow scour depths can cause foundation damage during an earthquake, even for bridges designed to provide satisfactory seismic performance.Shin-Tai Song Chun-Yao Wang Wen-Hsiu Huang 2015Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2015,14,4:4
Effects of topography on dynamic responses of single piles under vertical cyclic loading显示文摘This paper describes model tests of single piles subjected to vertical cyclic compressive loading for three kinds of topography: sloping ground, level ground, and inclined bedrock. Comprehensive dynamic responses involving cyclic effects and vibration behaviours are studied under various load combinations of dynamic amplitude, mean load, frequency and number of cycles. Test results show that permanent settlement can generally be predicted with a quadratic function or power function of cycles.Sloping ground topography produces more pronounced settlement than level ground under the same load condition. For vibration behaviour, displacement amplitude is weakly affected by the number of cycles, while load amplitude significantly influences dynamic responses. Test results also reveal that increasing load amplitude intensifies nonlinearity and topography effects. The strain distribution in a pile and soil stress at the pile tip are displayed to investigate the vibration mechanism accounting for sloping ground effects. Furthermore, the dynamic characteristics among three kinds of topography in the elastic stage are studied using a three-dimensional finite method. Numerical results are validated by comparing with experimental results for base inclination topography. An inclined soil profile boundary causes non-axisymmetric resultant deformation, though a small difference in vertical displacement is observed.QU Li-ming DING Xuan-ming WU Chong-rong LONG Yong-hong YANG Jin-chuan 2020Journal of Mountain Science2020,17,1:4

Study of seismic behavior of PHC piles with partial normal-strength deformed bars显示文摘Nine PHC piles with partial normal-strength deformed bars were prepared in present study, and cyclic loading tests were implemented to evaluate these piles’seismic performance. The influence of the axial compression ratio and the amount of normal-strength deformed bars on failure modes, crack patterns, strength, stiffness, and ductility were examined. The test findings indicate that the change of axial compression ratio has a noticeable influence on the failure mode of PHC piles.A larger axial compression ratio results in a higher cracking bending resistance, ultimate bending resistance, and initial stiffness, but the propagation heights of flexural cracks decrease as the axial compression ratio increases.Furthermore, increasing the amount of normal-strength deformed bars causes a slight decrease in ductility. Finally,a calculation formula was proposed to predict the flexural capacity of PHC piles with partial normal-strength deformed bars.Zhang Xizhi Zhang Shaohua Xu Shengbo Niu Sixin 2020Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2020,19,2:3
Behavior of Pile Groups under Lateral Load显示文摘Based on investigation and model tests, and in combination with the research work on group effect for pile groups under lateral loads relating to the code of fixed offshore platforms, a series of studies have been performed on the behavior and failure mechanism of laterally loaded pile groups, critical pile spacing inducing group effect, lateral bearing capacity of pile groups and its main influence factors, the stress-strain relationship for single piles and pile groups and so on. Some new laws about non-uniformity of load distribution in the longitudinal direction of pile groups and load-deflection (p - y) curves for pile groups have been discovered, and an empirical formula is presented in order to remedy the defect of current calculating methods at home and abroad. These results can be used for reference in the design of pile foundation under lateral loads.Yang, Keji Li, Qixin Wang, Fuyuan 1991China Ocean Engineering1991,6,2:3
