1Soil Carbon Dynamics Under Changing Climate A Research Transition from Absolute to Relative Roles of Inorganic Nitrogen Pools and Associated Microbial Processes:A Review显示文摘It is globally accepted that soil carbon(C) dynamics are at the core of interlinked environmental problems, deteriorating soil quality and changing climate. Its management remains a complex enigma for the scientific community due to its intricate relationship with soil nitrogen(N) availability and moisture-temperature interactions. This article reviews the management aspects of soil C dynamics in light of recent advances, particularly in relation to the availability of inorganic N pools and associated microbial processes under changing climate. Globally, drastic alterations in soil C dynamics under changing land use and management practices have been primarily attributed to the variation in soil N availability, resulting in a higher decomposition rate and a considerable decline in soil organic C(SOC) levels due to increased soil CO_2 emissions, degraded soil quality, and increased atmospheric CO_2 concentrations,leading to climate warming. Predicted climate warming is proposed to enhance SOC decomposition, which may further increase soil N availability, leading to higher soil CO_2 efflux. However, a literature survey revealed that soil may also act as a potential C sink, if we could manage soil inorganic N pools and link microbial processes properly. Studies also indicated that the relative, rather than the absolute, availability of inorganic N pools might be of key importance under changing climate, as these N pools are variably affected by moisture-temperature interactions, and they have variable impacts on SOC turnover. 2Impact of sole and combined application of biochar,organic and chemical fertilizers on wheat crop yield and water productivity in a dry tropical agro-ecosystem显示文摘Agriculture under changing climate scenario is facing major challenges of water scarcity and resource imbalances.Crop water productivity(WP)may act as an indicator of crop responses to water limitation.Organic amendments such as biochar and manure application to soil are suggested for improving soil quality and reducing water requirements from agricultural sector.However,studies exploring the impact of biochar as sole or in combination with organic and/or chemical fertilizers on WP in dry tropical agro-ecosystems are limited.In this study,we observed the effect of rice-husk ash(RHA,biochar)along with farm-yard manure(FYM)and chemical fertilizers(CF)under varying water conditions on soil hydro-physical properties,yield and WP of wheat crop.Water-filled pore space(WFPS),grain and straw yield,irrigation and total water productivity varied significantly(at P<0.001)at treatment level.Grain and straw yield were found higher under sole and combined CF applied treatments.Sole and combined RHA and FYM amendment improved water holding capacity(WHC)and WFPS,whereas a decrease in crop yield was observed as compared to the control.Irrigation and total water productivity were found higher under combined RHA+FYM and sole CF treatments with reduced water supply(except sole CF)as compared to control and sole RHA treatments with full water irrigation.Crop water productivity was found positively correlated with grain and straw yields,however,significant correlations were not observed with WHC and WFPS.Results indicate that increasing soil hydro-physical properties in silty-loam soil may hinder crop yield and WP under sole biochar applied soils.Overall,the implications of the study would help in devising agro-management practices based on combined application of RHA and FYM with reduced chemical fertilizer and water inputs to mitigate the impacts of climate change without compromising crop yield in the highly vulnerable dry tropical agro-ecosystem of India.Moreover,long-term studies are needed in these ecosystems to identify the appropriate agricultural package for mitigating the forthcoming water scarcity conditions.Rishikesh Singh Pardeep Singh Hema Singh A.S.Raghubanshi 2019Biochar2019,1,2:5

7Tailoring S-scheme-based carbon nanotubes(CNTs)mediated Ag-CuBi_(2)O_(4)/Bi_(2)S_(3)nanomaterials for photocatalytic dyes degradation in the aqueous system显示文摘In this study,S-scheme-based hydrothermal synthesis of Ag-CuBi_(2)O_(4)/CNTs/Bi_(2)S_(3)layered composites has been successfully reported.The photo-degradation of toxic dyes,viz.methyl orange(MO),and methylene blue(MB),has been used to examine nanocomposites with varying weight percent of Bi_(2)S_(3)for photocat-alytic activity in the visible range.Among candidates,Ag-CuBi_(2)O_(4)/CNTs/Bi_(2)S_(3)with a 10%loading of Bi_(2)S_(3)outperformed both pure and hybrid composites in photocatalytic activity.For MO degradation,the hybrid composite with 10%Bi_(2)S_(3)loading degrades 7.04 times higher than pristine CuBi_(2)O_(4)and Bi_(2)S_(3)samples,and for MB degradation,it degrades 4.96 times higher than pristine samples.High surface area,less re-combination rate of photogenerated charge carriers,photogenerated carriers faster separation,and high redox ability of Ag-CuBi_(2)O_(4)/CNTs/Bi_(2)S_(3)(10%)are all attributed to the improving photocatalytic perfor-mance.Even after ten cycles,the hybrid composite is chemically stable and reusable.Carbon nanotubes(CNTs)are a transfer bridge in layered structure for electrons because of their coordinated Fermi level between Ag-CuBi_(2)O_(4)and Bi_(2)S_(3).In addition,the scavenger and electron spin resonance(ESR)experiments verified that·O_(2)^(−),·OH,and h+were the important reactive species that successfully facilitated the pho-tocatalytic degradation process to degrade dyes.This study presents a straightforward and economical approach for obtaining a stable semiconductor-based photocatalytic system and a potential technique for future applications.Vishal Dutta Anita Sudhaik Sonu Pankaj Raizada Archana Singh Tansir Ahamad Sourbh Thakur Quyet Van Le Van-Huy Nguyen Pardeep Singh 2023Journal of Materials Science & Technology2023,,31:0
8Identifying barriers to early diagnosis of breast cancer and perception of women in Malwa region of Punjab,India显示文摘Objective:The aim of present study is to identify the breast cancer screening barriers among the women with breast cancer of Malwa region of Punjab,India.The study was conducted at three government hospitals representing almost all districts of Malwa region.Methods:The quantitative research design was followed using empirical research methods.Study was carried out by one-to-one interview by the field investigator and research assistant.Total of 363 breast cancer patient has been interviewed through the scheduled questionnaire and results has been recorded for further analysis.In this study,five barriers are described namely as personal barriers,socio-cultural barriers,economic barriers,health­system barriers,and treatment barriers which contains various questions regarding barriers to breast cancer screening.Univariate analysis methods have been used for the analysis to access the socio-demographic profile of women.Data has been obtained with the help of 5-point liker scale.Binary logistic model was chosen.Results:Majority of participants were in the age groups 50-<60 years(3&6%,140/363)and>60 years(31.1%,112/363).Majority of these women(47.4%,171/363)were illiterate and most of them were housewives.The major barriers to breast cancer screening faced by most of the women were having no knowledge about screening services(90.9%,329/363),the importance of early diagnosis(90.9%,329/363),different screening methods(95.5%,347/363)and place of availing screening services(91.2%,330/363)misguided belief in God and fate(81.5%,295/363)and preferring duties than taking care of health(70.2%,254/363).Education qualification(odds ratio[OR]0.74,β'=-0.309,t=-5.357,P=0.000)and socioeconomic class(OR 1.43,β’=0.354,t=3.399,P=0.001)were found to be significant determinant of the barriers among women.Conclusion:The survey was conducted in the women between the age 40-60 years and as an outcome,the unawareness about screening services,fatalistic attitude,fear of being diagnosed with the cancer,low per capita income was found out significant factors that restricted the women for early check-up for the breast cancer.Kuljinder Kaur Rachana Jajoo Subh Naman Tanushka Kandwal Gunteshwar Singh Brar Pardeep Garg Pritpal Singh Bhullar Ashish Baldi 2023Global Health Journal2023,7,1:0

10Adjuvant-attenuated symptom severity of influenza infections in vaccinated children显示文摘Background:Young children are at high risk for developing complications of influenza,as well as severe clinical presentation of disease.Vaccination provides direct protection and reduces symptom severity in breakthrough in-fections.We assessed whether adjuvanted trivalent seasonal influenza vaccine is associated with symptom severity in children who developed laboratory-confirmed influenza,as compared to children who received quadrivalent inactivated influenza.Methods:A cluster randomized controlled trial of influenza vaccines in Canadian Hutterite colonies was conducted from the 2016-2017 to the 2018-2019 influenza season.Children were vaccinated with either quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine(QIV),or the MF59 adjuvanted trivalent influenza vaccine(aTIV).We assessed children who developed PCR-confirmed influenza infection for symptom severity outcomes using multivariable generalized negative binomial regression.Results:Among vaccinated children,49 infections were observed across 1779 person-days.Vaccine formulation(aTIV vs QIV)was not significantly associated with composite symptom outcomes,including total number of symptoms or total duration of symptom presentation(p>0.05 for all outcomes).Receipt of aTIV vaccination was significantly associated with attenuation of fever,with an estimated 74%reduction in fever severity.In influenza A type infections,adjuvanted vaccination was significantly associated with reduced systemic symptoms(incidence rate ratios:0.16,95%confidence intervals:0.03,0.64,p=0.01).No associations were observed between vaccine formulation and symptom severity in influenza B infections.Conclusions:In vaccinated children who develop an influenza infection,vaccine formulation was associated with attenuated fever severity,leading to reduced systemic symptoms.In influenza A infections,adjuvanted vaccination was significantly associated with reduced systemic symptoms.Charlotte Switzer Chris P.Verschoor Eleanor Pullenayegum Pardeep Singh Mark Loeb 2022Infectious Medicine2022,1,3:0
