| 1 | Hearing and Cochlear structures in a Swine Model显示文摘Objective To study the audition and inner ear structure in a normal swine model.Methods Auditory brainstem responses(ABRs) were determined in swine at 1 day and 1 month after birth.The form of the cochlea and hair cells were examined under a scanning electron microscope and on cochlear slices.Results ABR thresholds at 1 day and 1 month post-birth were between 40 and 50 dB SPL.The latencies of waves I,III and V in 1 day old swine were 1.97 ± 0.13,3.01± 0.16 and 4.26±0.20 ms,respectively.At 1 month,the lantancies of waves I,III and V were 2.01 ± 0.05,3.11±0.08 and 4.65 ± 0.14 ms,respectively,slightly longer than those at 1 day,although not statistically significant(p>0.05).The swine cochlea was constituted of 3 and a half turns and the cochlear hair cells lined up in four rows.Hair cell cilia in the apical turn were longer than those in other turns.Conclusions The swine cochlea is mature at the time of birth.Swine ABR thresholds are slightly higher than humans and rats.Swine appears to be a precocial animal species. | GUO Wei-wei1,Cheng Lei2,Liu Hui-zhan1,Sun Jian-he1,YANG Shi-ming1,1 Department of Otolaryngology,Head & Neck Surgery,Institute of Otolaryngology,Chinese PLA General Hospital,Beijing 100853,China 2 State Rey laboratory for Agrobio technology China Agrical universiy Beijing 100193,PR,China | 2010 | Journal of Otology2010,5,2: | 7 |
| 2 | Long-Term Impact of Soil Management on Microbial Biomass C, N and P in Rice-Based Cropping System显示文摘A 12-year field experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of different tillage methods and fertil- ization systems on microbial biomass C, N and P of a gray fluvo-aguic soil in rice-based cropping system. Five fertilization treatments were designed under conventional tillage (CT) or no tillage (NT) system: no fertilizer (CK); chemical fertilizer only (CF); combining chemical fertilizer with pig manure (PM); combining chemical fertilizer with crop straw (CS) and fallow (F). The results showed that biomass C, N and P were enriched in the surface layer of no-tilled soil, whereas they distributed relatively evenly in the tilled soil, which might result from enrichment of crop residue, organic manure and mineral fertilizer, and surficial development of root systems under NT. Under the cultivation system, NT had slightly greater biomass C, N and P at 0~5 cm depth, significantly less biomass C, N and P at 5~15 cm depth, less microbial biomass C, N and equivalent biomass P at 15 ~30 cm depth as compared to CT, indicating that tillage was beneficial for the multiplica tion of organisms in the plowed layer of soil. Under the fallow system, biomass C, N and P in the surface layer were significantly greater for NT than CT while their differences between the two tillage methods were negligible in the deeper layers. In the surface layer, biomass C, N and P in the soils amended with organic manure combined with mineral fertilizers were significantly greater than those of the treatments only with mineral fertilizers and the control. Soils without fertilizer had the least biomass nutrient contents among the five fertilization treatments. Obviously, the long-term application of organic manure could maintain the higher activity of microorganisms in soils. | 4 | Relationship of egg parasitoids of rice planthoppers between rice and non-rice habitats显示文摘Egg parasitoids, Anagrus spp. and Oligositaspp. have been found to be important biological agents in suppressing rice planthoppers in Asian countries. However, most of these studies have been confined to conditions within rice fields. In this study, field surveys were made to study the floral and faunal diversity in various habitats surrounding rice fields. The rice and grass (Echinochloa spp.) plants were infested with 2 gravid females of brown planthopper Toya spp. or T. pusanus per tiller respectively for two days. The oviposited plants were:1) Rice plants bearing BPH eggs, 2) grass plants bearing BPH eggs, 3) grass plants bearing Toya spp eggs, and 4) grass plants bearing T. pusanus eggs.
