| 10 | Current and historical factors drive variation of reproductive traits in unisexual mosses in Europe:A case study显示文摘Unisexual bryophytes provide excellent models to study the mechanisms that regulate the frequency of sexual versus asexual reproduction in plants, and their ecological and evolutionary implications. Here,we determined sex expression, phenotypic sex ratio, and individual shoot traits in 242 populations of the cosmopolitan moss Pseudoscleropodium purum spanning its whole distributional range. We tested whether niche differentiation,sex-specific differences in shoot size, and biogeographical history explained the spatial variation of reproductive traits. We observed high levels of sex expression and predominantly female-biased populations, although both traits showed high intraspecific variation among populations.Sex expression and sex ratio were partly explained by current macroscale environmental variation, with male shoots being less frequent at the higher end of the environmental gradients defined by the current distribution of the species.Female bias in population sex ratio was significantly lower in areas recolonized after the last glacial maximum(recent populations)than in glacial refugia(long-term persistent populations). We demonstrated that reproductive trait variation in perennial unisexual mosses is partially driven by macroscale and historical environmental variation.Based on our results,we hypothesize that sexual dimorphism in environmental tolerance and vegetative growth contribute to sex ratio bias over time, constraining the chances of sexual reproduction, especially in long-term persistent populations.Further studies combining genetic analyses and population monitoring should improve our understanding of the implications of the intraspecific variation in the frequency of sexual versus asexual reproduction in bryophyte population fitness and eco-evolutionary dynamics. | María Teresa Boquete Zulema Varela JoséAngel Fernández Juan Antonio Calleja Cristina Branquinho Antonina Chilà Nils Cronberg Ricardo Cruz de Carvalho Cristiana Aleixo Belén Estébanez-Pérez Verónica Fernández-González Andrés Baselga Carola Gómez-Rodríguez Juana María González-Mancebo Sebastien Leblond Javier Martínez-Abaigar Nagore G.Medina Encarnación Núñez-Olivera Jairo Patiño Rubén Retuerto Antón Vázquez-Arias Alain Vanderpoorten Harald G.Zechmeister Jesús Ramón Aboal | 2023 | Journal of Systematics and Evolution2023,61,1: | 0 |
| 11 | Evaluation of Cuban Bacillus thuringiensis(Berliner,1911)(Bacillales:Bacillacea)isolates with larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti(Linnaeus,1762)(Diptera:Culicidae)显示文摘Objective:To evaluate 11 Cuban native Bacillus(B.)thuringiensis isolates in order to select one with the best larvicidal activity against Aedes(Ae.)aegypti and low cytotoxicity. Methods:The cry and cyt genes of the isolates(A21,A51,L95,L910,M29,R84,R85,R87,R89,U81 and X48)were amplified by PCR.The influence of organic matter and NaCl on the larvicidal activity was tested by bioassays.Cytotoxicity was assayed on peritoneal macrophages of BALB/c mice. Results:The cyt1(Aa,Ab,Ba),cyt2,cry4aA,cry4Ba,cry11(Aa,Ba,Bb)and cry10 genes were identified in all native Cuban isolates. The larvicidal activity(LC_(90))of seven isolates was affected by the presence of organic matter in the water, while A21,A51,L910,R84,U81 and X48 had better LC_(50),LC_(90),LC_(95) than the 266/29-Ⅶ-98 control strain. The LC_(50) of two isolates was affected by the presence of NaCl and A21,A51,R85 isolate had better larvicidal activity than the 266/29-Ⅶ-98 control strain. In terms of toxicity against macrophages, the extracts of nine isolates were less cytotoxic than the control strains. Conclusions:Native isolate A21 had the main virulence factors against Ae.aegypti larvae, displayed a good larvicidal activity in presence of different factors related with Ae.aegypti breeding sites, and had low citotoxicity against macrophages. These results can contribute to the improvement of existing biological control strategies and the development of new biolarvicides. | Aileen Gonzalez Rizo Camilo E Castañet Martinez Celeste Ramírez Cardentey Ariamys Companioni Ibañez Zulema Menéndez Díaz Lianet Monzote Fidalgo Hilda M HernandezÁlvarez | 2022 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2022,15,2: | 0 |

| 13 | Controlling Molecular Packing in Aqueous Metallosupramolecular Self-assembly by Ligand Geometry显示文摘The coordination geometry of d8 transition metal complexes has been successfully exploited as a tool to tune photophysical properties and self-assembly pathways of supramolecular polymerization processes, with a focus being primarily placed on organic media.Expanding such controlled supramolecular and photophysical properties to assemblies in aqueous media by molecular design is,however, still challenging due to the difficulty in programming noncovalent interactions in water.Herein,we tackle this challenge by analyzing the aqueous self-assembly of amphiphilic Pt(II)complexes of different molecular geometry in order to control self-assembly and metal−metal interactions in aqueous media. To this end,we have designed two Pt(II)complexes,1 and 2,containing an identical oligophenyleneethynylene(OPE)-based aromatic scaffold that differ in the molecular geometry(linear vs V-shaped)imposed by ligand substitution and studied their comparative self-assembly behavior in aqueous media.Even though both molecules follow the isodesmic mechanism of self-assembly,their structural difference strongly influences the molecular packing in aqueous media, which in turn impacts the photophysical properties(i.e.absence or presence of MMLCT)and the self-assembly outcome. While the molecular geometry for 2 enforces short Pt…Pt contacts driven by an efficient face-to-face stacking of the OPE backbone, the antiparallel packing of 1 with slight translational offset does not allow the formation of short Pt…Pt contacts.Such a distinct interplay of interactions for 1 and 2 in aqueous media leads to significant differences in photoluminescence. | Papri Sutar Torsten Dunnebacke Zulema Fernández Timo Krüer Christina Rest Gustavo Fernández | 2023 | Precision Chemistry2023,1,5: | 0 |
