| 1 | A preliminary study of the failure mechanisms of cascading landslide dams显示文摘Landslide dams commonly form when mass earth or rock movements reach a river channel and cause a complete or partial blockage of the channel.Intense rainfalls can induce upstream flows along a sloping channel that significantly affect downstream landslide dams.If a series of landslide dams are collapsed by incoming mountain torrents(induced by intense rainfall),large debris flows can form in a very short period.Furthermore,the failure of these dams can amplify the magnitude and scale of debris flows in the flow direction.The catastrophic debris flows that occurred in Zhouqu County,China on 8 August 2010 were caused by intense rainfall and the upstream cascading failure of landslide dams along the gullies.Incorporating the role of outburst floods associated with the complete or partial failure of landslide dams is an interesting problem usually beyond the scope of analysis because of the inherent modeling complexity.To understand the cascading failure modes of a series of landslide dams,and the dynamic effect these failures have on the enlargement of debris flow scales,experimental tests are conducted in sloping channels mimicking field conditions,with the modeled landslide dams distributed along a sloping channel and crushed by different upstream flows.The failure modes of three different cascades of landslide dams fully or partially blocking a channel river are parametrically studied.This study illustrates that upstream flows can induce a cascading failure of the landslide dams along a channel.Overtopping is the primary failure mechanism,while piping and erosion can also induce failures for different constructed landslide dams.A cascading failure of landslide dams causes a gradually increasing flow velocity and discharge of the front flow,resulting in an increase in both diameter and percentage of the entrained coarse particles.Furthermore,large landslide blockages can act to enhance the efficiency of river incision,or conversely to induce aggradation of fluvial sediments,depending on the blockage factor of the landslide dams and upstream discharge. | Gordon G.D Peng Cui Xinghua Zhu Jinbo Tang Huayong Chen Qicheng Sun | 2015 | International Journal of Sediment Research2015,30,3: | 8 |

| 3 | Screen-imaging guidance using a modified portable video macroscope for middle cerebral artery occlusion显示文摘The use of operating microscopes is limited by the focal length.Surgeons using these instruments cannot simultaneously view and access the surgical field and must choose one or the other.The longer focal length (more than 1 000 mm) of an operating telescope permits a position away from the operating field,above the surgeon and out of the field of view.This gives the telescope an advantage over an operating microscope.We developed a telescopic system using screen-imaging guidance and a modified portable video macroscope constructed from a Computar MLH-10 × macro lens,a DFK-21AU04 USB CCD Camera and a Dell laptop computer as monitor screen.This system was used to establish a middle cerebral artery occlusion model in rats.Results showed that magnification of the modified portable video macroscope was appropriate (5-20 ×) even though the Computar MLH-10 × macro lens was placed 800 mm away from the operating field rather than at the specified working distance of 152.4 mm with a zoom of 1-40 ×.The screen-imaging telescopic technique was clear,life-like,stereoscopic and matched the actual operation.Screen-imaging guidance led to an accurate,smooth,minimally invasive and comparatively easy surgical procedure.Success rate of the model establishment evaluated by neurological function using the modified neurological score system was 74.07%.There was no significant difference in model establishment time,sensorimotor deficit and infarct volume percentage.Our findings indicate that the telescopic lens is effective in the screen surgical operation mode referred to as 'long distance observation and short distance operation' and that screen-imaging guidance using an modified portable video macroscope can be utilized for the establishment of a middle cerebral artery occlusion model and micro-neurosurgery. | Xingbao Zhu Junli Luo Yun Liu Guolong Chen Song Liu Qiangjin Ruan Xunding Deng Dianchun Wang Quanshui Fan Xinghua Pan | 2012 | Neural Regeneration Research2012,7,12: | 6 |
| 4 | Serum levels of suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 in childhood atopic dermatitis显示文摘Suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) proteins,a member of SOCS family,are predominantly expressed in Th2 cells,and it has an important role in regulating the onset and maintenance of Th2-mediated allergic immune disease.1 SOCS can translocate from cytoplasm to nucleus when the level in cytoplasm increases,and localize to cell membrane where it binds to receptors.However,to our knowledge,there has been no documentation whether SOCS can transport to the intercellular space or circulating body fluids,let alone the subsequent biological significance.Signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) proteins,a group of transcription factor,are critical for mediating signals during Th1,Th2,Treg,and Th17 differentiation.Recent study demonstrated that STAT3 is not only required for the differentiation of Th17,IL-6-activated STAT3 promotes Maf expression,a factor required for Th2 differentiation and production of IL-4.Furthermore,STAT3 was activated throughout Th2 cell differentiation and was indispensable for Th2 cytokine production and transcription factor expression.2 SOCS proteins were recognized to negatively regulate the JAK/STAT signaling pathway through the common SH2 domain.Since binding of the SH2 domain of SOCS3 is relatively specific to receptors for STAT3-activating cytokines,such as IL-6,granulocyte-colony stimulating factor,leptin,and leukemia inhibitory factor,the suppressive effect of SOCS3 has been shown to be relatively restricted to STAT3.3 In this report we demonstrate that the serum levels of SOCS3 and STAT3 were increased in childhood atopic dermatitis (AD) compared with controls.Furthermore,STAT3 is significantly positively correlated with Scoring Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index. | Lyu Yani Zhu Lili Qi Ruiqun Xu Jing Di Zhenghong Chen Hongduo Gao Xinghua | 2014 | Chinese Medical Journal2014,,12: | 4 |
| 5 | Lowering reaction temperature: Electrochemical ammonia synthesis by coupling various electrolytes and catalysts显示文摘Ammonia is a vital emerging energy carrier and storage medium in the future hydrogen economy, even presenting relevant advantages compared with methanol due to the higher hydrogen content(17.6 wt% for ammonia versus 12.5 wt% for methanol). The rapidly growing demand for ammonia is still dependent on the conventional high-temperature and high-pressure Haber–Bosch process, which can deliver a conversion rate of about 10%–15%. However, the overall process requires a large amount of fossil fuels,resulting in serious environmental problems. Alternatively, electrochemical routes show the potential to greatly reduce the energy consumption, including sustainable energy sources and simplify the reactor design. Electrolytes perform as indispensable reaction medium during electrochemical processes, which can be further classified into solid oxide electrolytes, molten salt electrolytes, polymer electrolytes, and liquid electrolytes. | 8 | Microstructure and temperature dependence of magnetic properties of CuO-added MnZn ferrites显示文摘MnZn ferrites with the chemical formula Mn0.68Zn0.25Fe2.07O4 have been prepared by a conventional ceramic technique. Then, the effects of CuO addition on the microstructure and temperature dependence of magnetic properties of MnZn ferrites were investigated by characterizing the fracture surface micrograph and measuring the magnetic properties over a temperature ranging from 25 to 120 C. The results show that the lattice constant and average grain size increase with the increase of CuO concentration. When the CuO concentration is below 0.07 wt.%, the initial permeability and saturation magnetic flux density increase monotonously, and the temperature of the secondary maximum peak in the curve of initial permeability versus temperature and the lowest power loss shift to a lower temperature with the increase of CuO concentra-tion. However, excessive CuO concentration (>0.07 wt.%) results in abnormal grain growth and porosity increase, which causes the initial permeability and saturation magnetic flux density decrease and the power loss increase at room temperature. | 9 | Pt-Re/rGO bimetallic catalyst for highly selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde to cinnamylalcohol显示文摘In the present work, a series of Pt-based catalysts, alloyed with a second metal, i.e., Re, Sn, Er, La, and Y, and supported on activated carbon, ordered mesoporous carbon, N-doped mesoporous carbon or reduced graphene oxide(rGO), have been developed for selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde to cinnamylalcohol. Re and rGO were proved to be the most favorable metal dopant and catalyst support, respectively.
