1A Review of Seasonal Climate Prediction Research in China显示文摘The ultimate goal of climate research is to produce climate predictions on various time scales. In China, efforts to predict the climate started in the 1930 s. Experimental operational climate forecasts have been performed since the late 1950 s,based on historical analog circulation patterns. However, due to the inherent complexity of climate variability, the forecasts produced at that time were fairly inaccurate. Only from the late 1980 s has seasonal climate prediction experienced substantial progress, when the Tropical Ocean and Global Atmosphere project of the World Climate Research program(WCRP) was launched. This paper, following a brief description of the history of seasonal climate prediction research, provides an overview of these studies in China. Processes and factors associated with the climate variability and predictability are discussed based on the literature published by Chinese scientists. These studies in China mirror aspects of the climate research effort made in other parts of the world over the past several decades, and are particularly associated with monsoon research in East Asia. As the climate warms, climate extremes, their frequency, and intensity are projected to change, with a large possibility that they will increase. 2DNA Barcoding and Mini-DNA Barcoding Reveal Mislabeling of Salmonids in Different Distribution Channels in the Qingdao Area显示文摘There is an increasing demand for salmonid authentication due to the globalization of the salmonid trade.DNA barcoding and mini-DNA barcoding are widely used for identifying fish species based on a fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I(COI)sequence.In this study,rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss),steelhead trout(O.mykiss),and Atlantic salmon(Salmo salar)collected from two salmonid aquaculture bases in China were authenticated by DNA barcoding(about 650 bp)and mini-DNA barcoding(127 bp)to evaluate the accuracy of the two methods in the identification of different salmonid species.The results revealed that both methods could effectively distinguish O.mykiss and S.salar with 100%accuracy.However,the two methods failed to separate rainbow trout(O.mykiss)and steelhead trout(O.mykiss),which are the same species but cultured in different water environments.Moreover,salmonid samples from three main distribution channels in the Qingdao area(traditional supermarkets,online supermarkets,and sushi bars)were identified by the two methods.Substitution of S.salar with O.mykiss was discovered,and the 27.78%overall substitution rate of salmonids in the Qingdao area was higher than those in other regions reported in previous studies.In addition,the mislabeling rates of salmonids from traditional supermarkets,online supermarkets,and sushi bars were compared in this study.The mislabeling rate was significantly greater in sushi bars(50%)than in the other two channels(16.67%),suggesting that stronger monitoring and enforcement measures are necessary for the aquatic food catering industry.HAN Cui DONG Shuanglin LI Li GAO Qinfeng ZHOU Yangen 2021Journal of Ocean University of China2021,20,6:3
3Air–Sea Coupling Enhances the East Asian Winter Climate Response to the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation显示文摘A simple air–sea coupled model,the atmospheric general circulation model(AGCM) of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction coupled to a mixed-layer slab ocean model,is employed to investigate the impact of air–sea coupling on the signals of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation(AMO). A regional coupling strategy is applied,in which coupling is switched off in the extratropical North Atlantic Ocean but switched on in the open oceans elsewhere. The coupled model is forced with warm-phase AMO SST anomalies,and the modeled responses are compared with those from parallel uncoupled AGCM experiments with the same SST forcing. The results suggest that the regionally coupled responses not only resemble the AGCM simulation,but also have a stronger intensity. In comparison,the coupled responses bear greater similarity to the observational composite anomaly. Thus,air–sea coupling enhances the responses of the East Asian winter climate to the AMO. To determine the mechanism responsible for the coupling amplification,an additional set of AGCM experiments,forced with the AMO-induced tropical SST anomalies,is conducted. The SST anomalies are extracted from the simulated AMO-induced SST response in the regionally coupled model. The results suggest that the SST anomalies contribute to the coupling amplification. 6Comparisons of Salinity Adaptation in Terms of Growth, Body Composition, and Energy Budget in Juveniles of Rainbow and Steelhead Trouts (Oncorhynchus mykiss)显示文摘This study examined the effect of different salinities(0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30) on the growth performance and energy budget of juveniles of two different ecotypes of Oncorhynchus mykiss, landlocked rainbow trout and anadromous steelhead trout. In the 42 d experiment, fish were cultured in three replicate tanks per salinity treatment(eight fish per tank). At the end of the experiment, the growth of rainbow and steelhead trouts was significantly higher at salinities of 5 and 10, respectively, than at all other salinities. The protein, lipid and energy content of both ecotypes declined with the increase of salinity. Based on their energy budgets, the percentage of energy consumed for growth by rainbow and steelhead trouts were significantly higher at salinities of 5(34.00% ±1.69%) and 10(43.76% ± 1.29%), respectively, than at all other salinities. The percentage of energy consumed for respiration by rainbow and steelhead trouts was lower at salinities of 5(54.90% ± 1.77%) and 10(46.73% ± 0.62%), respectively, than at all other salinities. 7Temperature-Dependent Fatty Acid Composition Change of Phospholipid in Steelhead Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Tissues显示文摘In this study, the changes of the fatty acid composition of phospholipid in different tissues(muscle, heart, brain and spleen) of steelhead trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss) were analyzed when the water temperature decreased gradually from 16 to 12℃℃, 8℃, 6℃, 4℃, 2 and 1℃℃. Three fish individuals each tank(average weight 70.32 g ± 9.12 g) were collected and used to analysis at each designed temperatures. At normal temperature(16℃), the fatty acid composition of phospholipid of muscle and heart was similar each other. The highest concentration of saturate fatty acids(SFA) was found in the phospholipid of spleen. The brain phospholipid contained higher oleic acid(18:1 n9) than the phospholipid of other tissues at 16℃. When the environmental temperature decreased, the concentration of unsaturated fatty acids of phospholipids in all tissues increased, and accordingly the ratio pf the unsaturated to saturated fatty acids(U/S) and unsaturation index(UI) increased, indicating that steelhead trout can compensate temperature-dependent changes in membrane fluidity by remodeling the fatty acid composition of phospholipids. The changes in the fatty acid composition of phospholipid were tissue-specific. At the early stages of the experiment(16 to 8℃℃), the fatty acid composition of phospholipid changed remarkably in muscle, heart, and spleen. When temperature decreased to less than 8℃, an obvious response of phospholipid fatty acid was observed in all tissues. 10Comparative Evaluation of Toleration to Heating and Hypoxia of Three Kinds of Salmonids显示文摘This study was conducted to evaluate the critical thermal maximum(CTMax), the routine metabolism rate(MO_2) and the limiting oxygen saturation(LOS) of three salmonids with four different body weights ranging from 16 g to 131 g. The CTMax was estimated at three different heating rates including 0.5℃ min^(-1), 1℃ h^(-1) and 2℃ d^(-1). Results showed that the CTMax of maple trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss) was the highest, which was followed by steelhead trout(O. mykiss) and Atlantic salmon(Salmon salar). The CTMax of the salmonid fish decreased with the increment of body weight, and was significantly influenced by the heating rate. The MO_2 of the salmonid fish increased with the increment of temperature, and decreased with the increment of body weight. Suffocation points of the fish decreased with increasing body weight and temperature. Steelhead trout was more tolerant to hypoxia than maple trout and Atlantic salmon, while the MO_2 of Atlantic salmon was the highest among these three salmonids. The LOS of the fish generally had a positive trend with temperature and body weight, and the LOS of steelhead trout was significantly lower than that of maple trout and Atlantic salmon. In conclusion, maple trout was the most tolerant kind to high temperature, while steelhead trout was the most tolerant to hypoxia among three kinds of salmonids. 11An Effective Method of Prompting Juvenile Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) to Cope with Heat Stress显示文摘In the present study,juvenile rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss)were acclimated at 5 temperatures.Fish in the control group(C0)were reared at a constant temperature(16℃);trout in four other treatments(A0,A3,A6,and A9)were acclimated to a high temperature(22℃)for 0,3,6,and 9 d,respectively,and then returned to normal temperature(16℃)for 7d.The temperature was then raised to 20℃and the fish were cultured for 40 d.The results showed that the growth rates of A3,A6,and A9 were higher than that of A0 but lower than that of C0.The growth rate of A9 was the highest among the 4 acclimation groups.The activities of serum transaminase and liver antioxidant enzyme significantly increased during acclimation.At the beginning of growth,the activities of enzymes were lower in A3,A6,and A9 with the lowest in A9.In addition,the transcript abundance of heat shock protein(HSP)60 gene in A9 was not significantly different from that of C0 during growth.HSP70 in A9 significantly increased at the beginning and returned to that of C0 at the end.Our findings indicated that pre-acclimation improved the high temperature tolerance with the best effectiveness observed at 22℃for 9 d.A possible mechanism underlining such phenomenon is the improvement of antioxidant defense system.JIANG Xuyang DONG Shuanglin ZHOU Yangen GAO Qinfeng PAN Zhe 2020Journal of Ocean University of China2020,19,1:1

15Microwear analysis of a bone-handled microblade excavated at Shangzhai site in Beijing: Evidences from ESEM显示文摘The conventional wisdom has been challenged recently that microblades with handles are only tools for hunting and gathering in the Neolithic Age. Some scholars argued that microblades actually played an important part in the early agricultural development in the Neolithic. However, both of these opinions lacked direct evidence. Environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is used to analyze the residues of the bone-handled microblade excavated at the Shangzhai site in Pinggu, Beijing. The ESEM observation and EDX analysis show that at the edge of this bone-handled microblade are Ca, P, C, O or C, N, O, etc, which provide direct evidence for determining its function, namely that this microblade may have been dealt with animals. 17Growth,serum biochemical parameters,salinity tolerance and antioxidant enzyme activity of rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss)in response to dietary taurine levels显示文摘This study evaluated the effect of dietary taurine levels on growth,serum biochemical parameters,salinity adaptability,and antioxidant activity of rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss).Four diets were formulated with taurine supplements at 0,0.5,1,and 2%w/v(abbreviated as To,T05,Tt,and T2,respectively).Rainbow trouts(initial weight of 80.09±4.72 g)were stocked in tanks(180 L capacity),and were fed these diets for six weeks and subsequently underwent salinity acclimation.Physiological indicators were determined before salinity acclimation at 1,4,7,and 14 days afterwards.Results showed that there were no significant differences in growth performance(final mean weight ranged from 182.35 g to 198.48 g;percent weight gain was between 127.68%and 147.92%)of rainbow trout in freshwater stage,but dietary taurine supplement significantly increased serum-free taurine content.After entering seawater,the Na+-K+-ATPase activity of T2 group returned to its freshwater levels,and the serum cortisol content was significantly higher than To and To 5 groups.At the end of this experiment,the liver superoxide dismutase activity in the To and To 5 groups was significantly lower than in the Tj and T2 groups,and the liver catalase in the To group was the lowest whereas that in the T2 group was the highest.Muscle malondialdehyde content was the highest in the To group,and the lowest in the T2 group.Based on the results of this study,supplement of dietary taurine(0.5-2%)enhanced the salinity tolerance in rainbow trout,which increased with the higher taurine concentration.Ming Huang Xiaogang Yang Yangen Zhou Jian Ge DAllen Davis Yunwei Dong Qinfeng Gao Shuanglin Dong 2021Marine Life Science & Technology2021,3,4:0

19Effect of Temperature on the Carbon, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus Nutrient Budgets of Steelhead Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) with Different Sizes显示文摘This study was performed to evaluate the effect of temperature on the carbon(C),nitrogen(N),and phosphorus(P)nu-trient budgets of adult steelhead trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss)with different body sizes.A complete two-factor experiment was con-ducted at four temperatures,i.e.,9(T9),13(T13),16(T1℃℃℃6),and 19(T19);and three body sizes,℃i.e.,0.65 kg±0.02 kg(S1),1.22 kg±0.06 kg(S2),and 2.05 kg±0.09 kg(S3).The following properties of steelhead trout were determined:C,N,and P nutrient budgets;feed intake rate;fecal production rate;oxygen consumption rate;ammonia excretion rate;phosphorus excretion rate;scope of the growth of C,N,and P;and absorption efficiency of C,N,and P.Results showed no significant interaction between temperature and body size in terms of the nutrient budgets of steelhead trout.However,temperature and body size played important separate roles in the nutrient budgets except for the absorption efficiency of nitrogen.The feed intake rate,fecal production rate,ammonia excretion rate,phosphorus excretion rate,and scope of the growth of C,N,and P were the highest in the T16 treatments.The absorption effi-ciency of C and P decreased as temperature increased.Nonlinear multiple regression results indicated that 15 was the approximate℃optimal temperature for the feeding and growth of steelhead trout.The feed intake rate,fecal production rate,oxygen consumption rate,ammonia excretion rate,phosphorus excretion rate,and scope of the growth of C,N,and P per unit of the body weight of fish decreased as body size increased.The absorption efficiency of C increased as body weight increased,and the absorption efficiencies of P in the S2 and S3 treatments were significantly higher than those in the S1 treatment.During the culture of steelhead trout,the daily ratio should be adjusted with changes in the temperature and body size of fish.Furthermore,managers should focus on the risk of hypoxia at high water temperatures.ZHANG Gong GAO Qinfeng ZHOU Yangen DONG Shuanglin WANG Meijun GAO Yonggang 2022Journal of Ocean University of China2022,21,5:0
20Fatty Acid Composition and Digestive Enzyme Activities of Rainbow Trout in Response to Dietary Docosahexaenoic Acid(DHA)and Eicosapentaenoic Acid(EPA)During Salinity Acclimation显示文摘This physiological study aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary docosahexaenoic acid(DHA)and eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA)on the fatty acid composition and digestive enzyme activities of rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss)during salinity acclimation.Rainbow trout with an average initial weight of 90.61 g±9.25 g were fed diets with the quantities of DHA and EPA equaling to 0.54%,0.95%,1.40%and 1.79%(abbreviated as DE-0.54,DE-0.95,DE-1.40,and DE-1.79,respectively)for eight weeks,after which the gastric and intestinal fatty acids composition were analyzed.Subsequently,the fish underwent salinity acclimation.On days 1,4,7,and 14 after the freshwater was replaced by seawater and at the end of the 8-week period,gastric and intestinal digestive enzyme activities were determined.The results showed that the gastric and intestinal DHA and EPA contents of the fish were positively correlated to their dietary DHA and EPA levels.Low dietary DHA and EPA levels inhibited the protease activity of rainbow trout.Fish in the DE-0.54 group increased the lipase activity to enhance the utilization of lipids maybe due to the inadequate essential fatty acids for fish in this group.Hence,rainbow trout in the DE-0.54 group failed to maintain suitable activities of digestive enzymes after salinity acclimation.Therefore,a diet with minimum 0.95%DHA and EPA levels is necessary for rainbow trout during salinity acclimation.HUANG Ming ZHOU Yangen GE Jian AGUSTSSON Thorleifur LI Li GAO Qinfeng DONG Shuanglin 2020Journal of Ocean University of China2020,19,6:0
