1Local and teleconnected temperature effects of afforestation and vegetation greening in China显示文摘Afforestation in China provides carbon sequestration and prevents soil erosion,but its remote impacts on climate in other regions via the coupling of forest energy fluxes with atmospheric circulation are largely unknown.Here,we prescribe inventory-based forest cover change and satellite-observed leaf area index from 1982 to 2011 in a coupled land-atmosphere model to simulate their biophysical climate effects.Both local and global surface air temperatures show a seasonal contrast in response to past vegetation cover expansion over China:a phenomenon we primarily attribute to a variation of seasonality of vegetation greening.A large cooling in spring results in concurrent decreases in geopotential height over China and zonal wind over Mongolia,causing a dipole structure in the upper troposphere over the Arctic.This accounts for∼58%of simulated spring warming over the Russian Arctic and∼61%of simulated spring cooling over the Canadian Artic.Our results imply that spring vegetation dynamics in China may affect climate in northern high latitudes.Yue Li Shilong Piao Anping Chen Philippe Ciais Laurent Z.X.Li 2020National Science Review2020,7,5:6

3Diagnosing the Dynamic and Thermodynamic Effects for the Exceptional 2020 Summer Rainy Season in the Yangtze River Valley显示文摘An exceptional rainy season occurred in the Yangtze River valley of eastern China in June-July 2020.The relative importance of the dynamic and thermodynamic effects on this unusual event is evaluated through the budget equations of moisture and moist static energy(MSE).The moisture budget analysis suggests that the thermodynamic effect contributes to the precipitation anomaly by 8.5%through the advection of abnormal water vapor by mean vertical motion,while the dynamic effect,related to water vapor advection by anomalous vertical motion,has the dominant contribution.The MSE budget analysis further reveals that the anomalous vertical motion is both constrained by the dynamic effect related to changes in atmospheric circulation and the thermodynamic effect related to changes of the atmospheric thermal state,with a ratio of thermodynamic versus total effects estimated at 45.3%.The dynamic effect is linked to the advection of warm and humid air by the abnormal southwesterly wind,which is related with an anomalous anticyclone over the Philippine Sea.The thermodynamic effect is partly induced by the positive advection of anomalous MSE(mainly latent energy)by the mean vertical motion.This analysis of the dynamic and thermodynamic effects is useful to understand the underlying physical mechanisms leading to the unusual rainy season in the Yangtze River valley in summer 2020.It is also helpful to put forward a few speculations on the potential role of global warming whose primary effect is,after all,to change the thermal state of the atmosphere.Na WEN Shujie LIU Laurent Z.X.LI 2022Journal of Meteorological Research2022,36,1:1
4Non‐chromate conversion process for zinc coating with durable hydrophobicity and enhanced corrosion resistance显示文摘A Zn‐based coating with durable hydrophobicity and good corrosion resistance was formed on a mild steel substrate,which involves electroplating Zn from a non‐aqueous electrolyte,followed by passivation in an oleic acid(OA)solution.The electrodeposited Zn coatings were porous,which facilitated the formation of a chemical conversion layer of Zn oleate(ZO)during OA passivation.The Zn coating after passivation had a twolayer structure,which included an outer layer of ZO with a thickness of~26μm and an inner layer of Zn with a thickness of~6μm.The outer layer ZO is a type of metal soap with a smooth surface and durable hydrophobicity,such that water droplets can easily slip off its surface.Corrosion testing and electrochemical measurements in 3.5 wt.%NaCl aqueous solution indicate that the Zn coating after OA passivation exhibits outstanding anti‐corrosion properties compared with those exhibited by pure Zn coating.The corrosion products and mechanism of the two‐layer coating were explored.This study shows that smooth metal oleate coatings can provide hydrophobicity and corrosion resistance simultaneously to mild steel substrates.J.Y.Chen Z.Y.Hu Z.X.Li X.L.Wang C.D.Gu J.P.Tu 2022Biosurface and Biotribology2022,8,3:0
