2GIS-based Effect Assessment of Soil Erosion Before and After Gully Land Consolidation: A Case Study of Wangjiagou Project Region, Loess Plateau显示文摘The Loess Plateau is one typical area of serious soil erosion in the world. China has implemented ′Grain for Green′(GFG) project to restore the eco-environment of the Loess Plateau since 1999. With the GFG project subsidy approaching the end, it is concerned that farmers of fewer subsidies may reclaim land again. Thus, ′Gully Land Consolidation Project′(GLCP) was initiated in 2010. The core of the GLCP was to create more land suitable for farming in gullies so as to reduce land reclamation on the slopes which are ecological vulnerable areas. This paper aims to assess the effect of the GLCP on soil erosion problems by studying Wangjiagou project region located in the central part of Anzi valley in the middle of the Loess Plateau, mainly using the revised universal soil loss equation(RUSLE) based on GIS. The findings show that the GLCP can help to reduce soil shipment by 9.87% and it creates more terraces and river-nearby land suitable for farming which account for 27.41% of the whole study area. Thus, it is feasible to implement the GLCP in places below gradient 15°, though the GLCP also intensifies soil erosion in certain places such as field ridge, village land, floodplain, natural grassland, and shrub land. In short, the GLCP develops new generation dam land and balances the short-term and long-term interests to ease the conflicts between economic development and environmental protection. Furthermore, the GLCP and the GFG could also be combined preferably. On the one hand, the GFG improves the ecological environment, which could offer certain safety to the GLCP, on the other hand, the GLCP creates more farmland favorable for farming in gullies instead of land reclamation on the slopes, which could indirectly protect the GFG project.LIU Yansui GUO Yanjun LI Yurui LI Yuheng 2015Chinese Geographical Science2015,25,2:30

6Industrial development and land use/cover change and their effects on local environment:a case study of Changshu in eastern coastal China显示文摘The interactions among industrial development,land use/cover change (LUCC), and environmentaleffects in Changshu in the eastern coastal China wereanalyzed using high-resolution Landsat TM data in 1990,1995, 2000, and 2006, socio-economic data and waterenvironmental quality monitoring data from researchinstitutes and governmental departments. Three phases ofindustrial development in Changshu were examined (i.e.,the three periods of 1990 to 1995, 1995 to 2000, and 2000to 2006). Besides industrial development and rapidurbanization, land use/cover in Changshu had changeddrastically from 1990 to 2006. This change was characterizedby major replacements of farmland by urban and ruralsettlements, artificial ponds, forested and constructed land.Industrialization, urbanization, agricultural structureadjustment, and rural housing construction were themajor socio-economic driving forces of LUCC inChangshu. In addition, the annual value of ecosystemservices in Changshu decreased slightly during 1990-2000, but increased significantly during 2000-2006.Nevertheless, the local environmental quality in Changshu,especially in rural areas, has not yet been improvedsignificantly. 9Thermal camouflage based on the phasechanging material GST显示文摘Camouflage technology has attracted growing interest for many thermal applications.Previous experimental demonstrations of thermal camouflage technology have not adequately explored the ability to continuously camouflage objects either at varying background temperatures or for wide observation angles.In this study,a thermal camouflage device incorporating the phase-changing material Ge2Sb2Te5(GST)is experimentally demonstrated.It has been shown that near-perfect thermal camouflage can be continuously achieved for background temperatures ranging from 30℃ to 50℃ by tuning the emissivity of the device,which is attained by controlling the GST phase change.The thermal camouflage is robust when the observation angle is changed from 0°to 60°.This demonstration paves the way toward dynamic thermal emission control both within the scientific field and for practical applications in thermal information.Yurui Qu Qiang Li Lu Cai Meiyan Pan Pintu Ghosh Kaikai Du Min Qiu 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:3
10Vegetation Restoration in Response to Climatic and Anthropogenic Changes in the Loess Plateau, China显示文摘A thorough understanding of the vegetation succession in relation to both climatic changes and anthropogenic activities is vital for the formulation of adaptation strategies that address potential ecosystem challenges.Various climatic factors such as temperature,precipitation,and solar radiation,as well as anthropogenic factors such as ecological engineering and population migration,will affect the conditions for vegetation.However,the relationships among various factors remain unclear and the response of vegetation to climate change and anthropogenic activities in the Loess Plateau of China has not been well established.This study investigated the spatio-temporal characteristics and relationships between vegetation coverage and climatic factors in the Loess Plateau for the period of 1985–2015.Further analysis separated the anthropogenic and climatic factors on vegetation succession based on residual analysis.The results showed that the normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)followed a significant upward trend with annual change rates of 0.15%during 1985–2015.The trend of human-induced NDVI increase was consistent with the spatial distribution of increasing forest areas in the eastern part of the Loess Plateau.Eco-restoration projects were the main driving factors that promoted vegetation coverage on the Loess Plateau.Furthermore,these results demonstrated that migrants to cities in the Loess Plateau could relieve ecological pressures and promote vegetation restoration.Therefore,the government should strive to increase population mobility and restore vegetation to sustain this particularly fragile ecological environment.QU Lulu HUANG Yunxin YANG Lingfan LI Yurui 2020Chinese Geographical Science2020,30,1:3

13Graphdiyne-based metal atomic catalysts for synthesizing ammonia显示文摘Development of novel catalysts for nitrogen reduction at ambient pressures and temperatures with ultrahigh ammonia(NH_(3))yield and selectivity is challenging.In this work,an atomic catalyst with separated Pd atoms on graphdiyne(Pd-GDY)was synthesized,which shows fascinating electrocatalytic properties for nitrogen reduction.The catalyst has the highest average NH_(3)yield of 4.45±0.30 mgNH_(3)mg Pd^(-1)h^(-1),almost tens of orders larger than for previously reported catalysts,and 100%reaction selectivity in neutral media.Pd-GDY exhibits almost no decreases in NH_(3)yield and Faradaic efficiency.Density functional theory calculations show that the reaction pathway prefers to perform at the(Pd,C1,C2)active area because of the strongly coupled(Pd,C1,C2),which elevates the selectivity via enhanced electron transfer.By adjusting the p–d coupling accurately,reduction of self-activated nitrogen is promoted by anchoring atom selection,and side effects are minimized.Huidi Yu Yurui Xue Lan Hui Chao Zhang Yan Fang Yuxin Liu Xi Chen Danyan Zhang Bolong Huang Yuliang Li 2021National Science Review2021,8,8:2

16Dynamic evolution and the mechanism of modern gully agriculture regional function in the Loess Plateau显示文摘The agricultural regional type and function are the key theoretical issues in agricultural geography research.Gully agriculture in the Loess Plateau is a new regional type of agricultural system with the coupling development of the modern gully human-earth relationship.The study of its functional changes is of great practical significance for food security,rural revitalization and sustainable development of regional agriculture in the region of interest.This paper analyses the multifunctional change of gully agriculture in the Loess Plateau and its dynamic mechanism by using large-scale remote sensing data,topographic relief amplitude model,and spatial econometric model to understand internal implications for evolution differentiation at the basin level.The results show that:(1)The spatial concentration of production and supply function of agricultural products(APF)in the gully of the Loess Plateau gully is high,while the ecological conservation and maintenance function(ECF),employment and social security function(ESF),cultural heritage and leisure function(CRF)are relatively low.The four functions’spatial distribution has revealed an apparent regularity.(2)APF has been significantly enhanced,which is mainly distributed in point clusters and strips in the farming and pastoral areas in northern Shaanxi to the Yanhe river basin.The high-value areas of ESF are clustered around the urbanized metropolitan circles and urban-rural staggered areas along the Great Wall.ECF is concentrated in areas with significant natural endowments and excellent ecological conditions.CRF is significantly higher in the municipal districts and the surrounding regional central cities.(3)There are noticeable differences in the gully agriculture regional function(GARF)evolution process due to the geographical environment and socio-economic development stages.In this regard,natural factors have tremendously affected APF,ESF,and ECF,while socio-economic factors greatly differ in the four functions.There are still differences in the driving mechanisms of modern gully agriculture evolution types;hence many critical policies in the Loess Plateau can directly affect the function evolution paths.The dynamic evolution of GARF can reflect the general law of rural human-earth system transition in gully areas,thereby providing policy ideas for high-quality development of agriculture in the Loess Plateau.QU Lulu LI Yurui WANG Yongsheng DONG Shijie WEN Qi 2022Journal of Geographical Sciences2022,32,11:1

20Comparative genome analysis of three euplotid protists provides insights into the evolution of nanochromosomes in unicellular eukaryotic organisms显示文摘One of the most diverse clades of ciliated protozoa,the class Spirotrichea,displays a series of unique characters in terms of eukaryotic macronuclear(MAC)genome,including high fragmentation that produces nanochromosomes.However,the genomic diversity and evolution of nanochromosomes and gene families for spirotrich MAC genomes are poorly understood.In this study,we assemble the MAC genome of a representative euplotid(a new model organism in Spirotrichea)species,Euplotes aediculatus.Our results indicate that:(a)the MAC genome includes 35,465 contigs with a total length of 97.3 Mb and a contig N50 of 3.4 kb,and contains 13,145 complete nanochromosomes and 43,194 predicted genes,with the majority of these nanochromosomes containing tiny introns and harboring only one gene;(b)genomic comparisons between E.aediculatus and other reported spirotrichs indicate that average GC content and genome fragmentation levels exhibit interspecifc variation,and chromosome breaking sites(CBSs)might be lost during evolution,resulting in the increase of multi-gene nanochromosome;(c)gene families associated with chitin metabolism and FoxO signaling pathway are expanded in E.aediculatus,suggesting their potential roles in environment adaptation and survival strategies of E.aediculatus;and(d)a programmed ribosomal frameshift(PRF)with a conservative motif 5′-AAATAR-3′tends to occur in longer genes with more exons,and PRF genes play an important role in many cellular regulation processes.Didi Jin Chao Li Xiao Chen Adam Byerly Naomi AStover Tengteng Zhang Chen Shao Yurui Wang 2023Marine Life Science & Technology2023,5,3:1
