| 1 | Relationship between Cognition Function and Hippocampus Structure after Long-term Microwave Exposure显示文摘Objective To analyze the effects of long-term microwave exposure on hippocampal structure and function in the rat.Methods Experiments were performed on 184 male Wistar rats(three exposure groups and a sham group).Microwaves were applied daily for 6 min over 1 month at average power densities of 2.5,5,and 10 mW/cm2.Learning and memory abilities were assessed by Morris water maze.High performance liquid chromatography was used to detect neurotransmitter concentrations in the hippocampus.Hippocampal structures were observed by histopathological analysis.Results Following long-term microwave exposure there was a significant decrease in learning and memory activity in the 7 d,14 d,and 1 m in all three microwave exposure groups.Neurotransmitter concentrations of four amino acids(glutamate,aspartic acid,glycine,and gamma-aminobutyric acid) in hippocampus were increased in the 2.5 and 5 mW/cm2 groups and decreased in the 10 mW/cm2 group.There was evidence of neuronal degeneration and enlarged perivascular spaces in the hippocampus in the microwave exposure groups.Further,mitochondria became swollen and cristae were disordered.The rough endoplasmic reticulum exhibited sacculated distension and there was a decrease in the quantity of synaptic vesicles.Conclusion These data suggest that the hippocampus can be injured by long-term microwave exposure,which might result in impairment of cognitive function due to neurotransmitter disruption. | ZHAO Li PENG Rui Yun WANG Shui Ming WANG Li Feng GAO Ya Bing DONG Ji LI Xiang SU Zhen Tao | 2012 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,2: | 27 |
| 2 | Source apportionment and secondary organic aerosol estimation of PM_(2.5) in an urban atmosphere in China显示文摘PM2.5 is the key pollutant in atmospheric pollution in China.With new national air quality standards taking effect,PM2.5 has become a major issue for future pollution control.To effectively prevent and control PM2.5,its emission sources must be precisely and thoroughly understood.However,there are few publications reporting comprehensive and systematic results of PM2.5 source apportionment in the country.Based on PM2.5 sampling during 2009 in Shenzhen and follow-up investigation,positive matrix factorization(PMF)analysis has been carried out to understand the major sources and their temporal and spatial variations.The results show that in urban Shenzhen(University Town site),annual mean PM2.5 concentration was 42.2μg m?3,with secondary sulfate,vehicular emission,biomass burning and secondary nitrate as major sources;these contributed30.0%,26.9%,9.8%and 9.3%to total PM2.5,respectively.Other sources included high chloride,heavy oil combustion,sea salt,dust and the metallurgical industry,with contributions between 2%–4%.Spatiotemporal variations of various sources show that vehicular emission was mainly a local source,whereas secondary sulfate and biomass burning were mostly regional.Secondary nitrate had both local and regional sources.Identification of secondary organic aerosol(SOA)has always been difficult in aerosol source apportionment.In this study,the PMF model and organic carbon/elemental carbon(OC/EC)ratio method were combined to estimate SOA in PM2.5.The results show that in urban Shenzhen,annual SOA mass concentration was 7.5μg m?3,accounting for 57%of total organic matter,with precursors emitted from vehicles as the major source.This work can serve as a case study for further in-depth research on PM2.5 pollution and source apportionment in China. | HUANG XiaoFeng YUN Hui GONG ZhaoHeng LI Xiang HE LingYan ZHANG YuanHang HU Min | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,6: | 28 |

It was thus the first international treaty to endow the 2 ℃ global temperature target with legal effect.The qualitative expression of the ultimate objective in Article 2 of the United Nations Framework Conventionon Climate Change (UNFCCC) has now evolved into the numerical temperature rise target in Article 2 of theParis Agreement. Starting with the Second Assessment Report (SAR) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Cli-mate Change (IPCC), an important task for subsequent assessments has been to provide scientific informa-tion to help determine the quantified long-term goal for UNFCCC negotiation. However, due to involvementin the value judgment within the scope of non-scientific assessment, the IPCC has never scientifically af-firmed the unacceptable extent of global temperature rise. The setting of the long-term goal for addressingclimate change has been a long process, and the 2 ℃ global temperature target is the political consensuson the basis of scientific assessment. | 5 | Functional electrical stimulation-facilitated proliferation and regeneration of neural precursor cells in the brains of rats with cerebral infarction显示文摘Previous studies have shown that proliferation of endogenous neural precursor cells cannot alone compensate for the damage to neurons and axons. From the perspective of neural plasticity, we observed the effects of functional electrical stimulation treatment on endogenous neural precursor cell proliferation and expression of basic fibroblast growth factor and epidermal growth factor in the rat brain on the infarct side. Functional electrical stimulation was performed in rat models of acute middle cerebral artery occlusion. Simultaneously, we set up a placebo stimulation group and a sham-operated group. Immunohistochemical staining showed that, at 7 and 14 days, compared with the placebo group, the numbers of nestin(a neural precursor cell marker)-positive cells in the subgranular zone and subventricular zone were increased in the functional electrical stimulation treatment group. Western blot assays and reverse-transcription PCR showed that total protein levels and gene expression of epidermal growth factor and basic fibroblast growth factor were also upregulated on the infarct side. Prehensile traction test results showed that, at 14 days, prehension function of rats in the functional electrical stimulation group was significantly better than in the placebo group. | 6 | Pediatric reference intervals in China(PRINCE):design and rationale for a large,multicenter collaborative cross-sectional study显示文摘There is a lack of accurate pediatric reference intervals(RIs) in China, with most commonly used RIs established without consideration of the effect of age and gender. The Pediatric Reference Intervals in China(PRINCE) project aims to establish and verify pediatric RIs for 31 common laboratory measurands.The project will be a large, multicenter cross-sectional study:14,490 healthy children and adolescents aged up to 19 years will be surveyed by 10 children's hospitals and one pediatric department of a university hospital. To evaluate the feasibility and efficiency of the study methods, 602 children were surveyed in the pilot phase of the PRINCE study in April 2017: it found that some measurands were distinctly age dependent and that there were differences between values for males and females. The results of the pilot study affirmed the necessity of the PRINCE project for Chinese pediatrics. The pilot also indicated potential difficulties in the full survey, e.g., difficulties in recruiting children aged under 3 years and insufficient collection of blood samples from infants. | 11 | Visfatin Protects Rat Pancreatic β-cells against IFN-γ-Induced Apoptosis through AMPK and ERK1/2 Signaling Pathways显示文摘Objective Interferon-γ(IFN-γ) plays an important role in apoptosis and was shown to increase the risk of diabetes. Visfatin, an adipokine, has anti-diabetic, anti-tumor, and regulating inflammatory properties. In this study we investigated the effect of visfatin on IFN-γ-induced apoptosis in rat pancreatic β-cells. Methods The RINm5F(rat insulinoma cell line) cells exposed to IFN-γ were treated with or without visfatin. The viability and apoptosis of the cells were assessed by using MTT and flow cytometry. The expressions of m RNA and protein were detected by using real-time PCR and western blot analysis. Results The exposure of RINm5 F cells to IFN-γ for 48 h led to increased apoptosis percentage of the cells. Visfatin pretreatment significantly increased the cell viability and reduced the cell apoptosis induced by IFN-γ. IFN-γ-induced increase in expression of p53 m RNA and cytochrome c protein, decrease in m RNA and protein levels of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 were attenuated by visfatin pretreatment. Visfatin also increased AMPK and ERK1/2 phosphorylation and the anti-apoptotic action of visfatin was attenuated by the AMPK and ERK1/2 inhibitor. Conclusion These results suggested that visfatin protected pancreatic islet cells against IFN-γ-induced apoptosis via mitochondria-dependent apoptotic pathway. | 13 | Effect of mean arterial pressure change by norepinephrine on peripheral perfusion index in septic shock patients after early resuscitation显示文摘Background:The peripheral perfusion index(PI),as a real-time bedside indicator of peripheral tissue perfusion,may be useful for determining mean arterial pressure(MAP)after early resuscitation of septic shock patients.The aim of this study was to explore the response of PI to norepinephrine(NE)-induced changes in MAP.Methods:Twenty septic shock patients with pulse-induced contour cardiac output catheter,who had usual MAP under NE infusion after early resuscitation,were enrolled in this prospective,open-label study.Three MAP levels(usual MAP-10 mmHg,usual MAP,and usual MAP+10 mmHg)were obtained by NE titration,and the corresponding global hemodynamic parameters and PI were recorded.The general linear model with repeated measures was used for analysis of variance of related parameters at three MAP levels.Results:With increasing NE infusion,significant changes were found in MAP(F=502.46,P<0.001)and central venous pressure(F=27.45,P<0.001)during NE titration.However,there was not a significant and consistent change in continuous cardiac output(CO)(F=0.41,P=0.720)and PI(F=0.73,P=0.482)at different MAP levels.Of the 20 patients enrolled,seven reached the maximum PI value at usual MAP-10 mmHg,three reached the maximum PI value at usual MAP,and ten reached the maximum PI value at usual MAP+10 mmHg.The change in PI was not significantly correlated with the change in CO(r=0.260,P=0.269)from usual MAP-10 mmHg to usual MAP.There was also no significant correlation between the change in PI and change in CO(r=0.084,P=0.726)from usual MAP to usual MAP+10 mmHg.Conclusions:Differing MAP levels by NE infusion induced diverse PI responses in septic shock patients,and these PI responses may be independent of the change in CO.PI may have potential applications for MAP optimization based on changes in peripheral tissue perfusion. | Huai-Wu He Wang-Lin Liu Xiang Zhou Yun Long Da-Wei Liu | 2020 | Chinese Medical Journal2020,,18: | 6 |
| 14 | Evaluating the flavor and divergent bacterial communities in corn-based zha-chili显示文摘Zha-chili is a naturally fermented traditional food from central southern China.Corn-based zha-chili is one of the most popular varieties with a special flavor.To investigate its distinct microbiome,corn-based zha-chili samples were collected and investigated using both high-throughput sequencing and culture-dependent method.Subsequently,E-nose and E-tongue sensors were used to evaluate the overall sensory profile.We found that the bacterial communities present in zha-chili samples from the two regions were significantly different(P<0.05).Companilactobacillus,Lactiplantibacillus,and Corynebacterium were found to be the dominant genera common to samples from both regions.Among these,lactic acid bacteria were the most dominant.Biomarker genera were Ligilactobacillus,Lactobacillus,and Levilactobacillus(Huaihua)and Pantoea,Lactiplantibacillus,and Weissella(Songtao).Using culture-dependent methods,the most dominant genus Companilactobacillus was found to comprise Companilactobacillus alimentarius and Companilactobacillus futsaii.The sensory profile was also characterized.This indicated that zha-chili from the two regions could be discriminated by sourness and aftertaste-B(E-taste),and W1C,W3C,W5C,W1S,W2S,W5S,and W2W(E-nose).Correlation analysis suggested that the dominant genera might not affect the aroma quality of corn-based zha-chili,whereas they were related to taste quality.Levilactobacillus and Ligilactobacillus were positively correlated with the characteristic taste indices and negatively correlated with the off-flavor indices.Another dominant genus,Kocuria was positively correlated with umami and richness(P<0.05).Our results could provide a basis for supporting zha-chili production and help the isolation of appropriate lactic acid bacteria from corn-based zha-chili. | Zhuang Guo Yurong Wang Fanshu Xiang Yun Dong Qiangchuan Hou Zhendong Zhang | 2022 | Food Bioscience2022,46,2: | 6 |
| 15 | Rules of anti-infection therapy for sepsis and septic shock显示文摘Objective: Sepsis is a deadly infection that causes injury to tissues and organs. Infection and anti-infective treatment are the eternal themes of sepsis. The successful control of infection is a key factor of resuscitation for sepsis and septic shock. This review examines evidence for the treatment of sepsis. This evidence is combined with clinical experiments to reveal the rules and a standard flowchart of anti-infection therapy for sepsis. Data Sources: We retrieved information from the PubMed database up to October 2018 using various search terms and their combinations, including sepsis, septic shock, infection, antibiotics, and anti-infection. Study Selection: We included data from peer-reviewed journals printed in English on the relationships between infections and antibiotics. Results: By combining the literature review and clinical experience, we propose a 6Rs rule for sepsis and septic shock management: right patients, right time, right target, right antibiotics, right dose, and right source control. This rule encompasses rational decisions regarding the timing of treatment, the identification of the correct pathogen, the selection of appropriate antibiotics, the formulation of a scientifically based antibiotic dosage regimen, and the adequate control of infectious foci. | 16 | Two Cases of Multi-antibiotic Resistant Cronobacter spp. Infections of Infants in China*显示文摘Infections by Cronobacter spp. are hazardous to infants since they can lead to neonatal meningitis, bacteremia, and necrotizing enterocolitis. Cronobacter spp. are frequently resistant to β-lactam derivatives, macrolides, and aminoglycosides. In addition, multi-resistant strains have also been detected. In China, the isolation rate of Cronobacter spp. from commercial powdered infant formula(PIF) or follow-up formula(FUF) is relatively high. Nevertheless, clinical cases of Cronobacter infection have been ignored to date. Here we describe two cases of Cronobacter infection detected at the Wuhan Women and Children Medical Care Center Hospital(Wuhan City, China). We provide the genomic analysis of the isolates and the antibiotic-resistance profiles of the two strains. The Cronobacter strains identified in this study were not susceptible to third-generation cephalosporins, aminoglycoside, and/or trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. Whole genome sequencing revealed various genes known to encode antibiotic resistance. Future studies are needed to determine whether the genes predicted in this study are functional. | 19 | Biotransformation of aesculin by human gut bacteria and identification of its metabolites in rat urine显示文摘AIM:To observe the biotransformation process of a Chinese compound,aesculin,by human gut bacteria,and to identify its metabolites in rat urine.METHODS:Representative human gut bacteria were collected from 20 healthy volunteers,and then utilized in vitro to biotransform aesculin under anaerobic conditions.At 0,2,4,8,12,16,24,48 and 72 h post- incubation,10 mL of culture medium was collected.Metabolites of aesculin were extracted 3×from rat urine with methanol and analyzed by HPLC.For in vivo metabolite analysis,aesculetin(100 mg/kg)was administered to rats via stomach gavage,rat urine was collected from 6 to 48 h post-administration,and metabolite analysis was performed by LC/ESI-MS and MS/MS in the positive and negative modes.RESULTS:Human gut bacteria could completely convert aesculin into aesculetin in vitro.The biotransformation process occurred from 8 to 24 h post-incubation,with its highest activity was seen from 8 to 12 h.The in vitro process was much slower than the in vivo process.In contrast to the in vitro model,six aesculetin metabolites were identified in rat urine,including 6-hydroxy-7-gluco- coumarin(M1),6-hydroxy-7-sulf-coumarin(M2),6,7-di- gluco-coumarin(M3),6-glc-7-gluco-coumarin(M4),6-O-methyl-7-gluco-coumarin(M5)and 6-O-methyl-7- sulf-coumarin(M6).Of which,M2 and M6 were novel metabolites.CONCLUSION:Aesculin can be transferred into aesculetin by human gut bacteria and is further modified by the host in vivo.The diverse metabolites of aesculin may explain its pleiotropic pharmaceutical effects. | Wei-Jun Ding Yun Deng Hao Feng Wei-Wei Liu Rong Hu Xiang Li Zhe-Ming Gu Xiao-Ping Dong | 2009 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,12: | 5 |
| 20 | Is there an association between Helicobacter pylori infection and irritable bowel syndrome? A meta-analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS)is a prevalent and debilitating gastrointestinal condition.Research has reported persistent,low-grade mucosal inflammation and significant overlaps between patients with IBS and those with dyspepsia,suggesting a possible pathogenic role of Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)in IBS.This study therefore aimed to provide the first systematic review and meta-analysis on the association between H.pylori infection and IBS.AIM To investigate the association between H.pylori infection and IBS.METHODS Using the keywords“H.pylori OR Helicobacter OR Helicobacter pylori OR infection”AND“irritable bowel syndrome OR IBS”,a preliminary search of PubMed,Medline,Embase,Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews,Web of Science,Google Scholar and WanFang databases yielded 2924 papers published in English between 1 January 1960 and 1 June 2018.Attempts were also made to search grey literature.RESULTS A total of 13 clinical studies were systematically reviewed and nine studies were included in the final meta-analysis.Random-effects meta-analysis found a slight increased likelihood of H.pylori infection in patients with IBS,albeit this was not statistically significant(pooled odds ratio 1.47,95%confidence interval:0.90-2.40,P=0.123).It must also be acknowledged that all of the available studies reported only crude odd ratios.H.pylori eradication therapy also does not appear to improve IBS symptoms.Although publication bias was not observed in the funnel plot,there was a high degree of heterogeneity amongst the studies included in the meta-analysis(I2=87.38%).CONCLUSION Overall,current evidence does not support an association between IBS and H.pylori infection.Further rigorous and detailed studies with larger sample sizes and after H.pylori eradication therapy are warranted. | Qin Xiang Ng Nadine Xinhui Foo Wayren Loke Yun Qing Koh Vanessa Jing Min Seah Alex Yu Sen Soh Wee Song Yeo | 2019 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,37: | 5 |
