1Experimental study on flow characteristics of tetrahydrofuran hydrate slurry in pipelines显示文摘Tetrahydrofuran(THF) was selected as the substitute to study the flow behaviors and the mechanism of the hydrates blockage in pipelines.The slurrylike hydrates and slushlike hydrates are observed with the formation of hydrates in pipeline.There is a critical hydrate volume concentration of 50.6% for THF slurries and pipeline will be free of hydrate blockage while the hydrate volume concentration is lower than the critical volume concentration;otherwise,pipeline will be easy to be blocked.Fully turbulent flow occurs and friction factors tend to be constant when the velocity reaches 1.5 m/s.And then,constant values of friction factors that depend on the volume concentrations in the slurry were regressed to estimate the pressure drops of THF hydrate slurry at large mean velocity.Finally,a safe region,defined according to the critical hydrate volume concentration,was proposed for THF hydrate slurry,which may provide some insight for further studying the natural gas hydrate slurries and judge whether the pipeline can be run safely or not.Wuchang Wang Shuanshi Fan Deqing Liang Yuxing Li 2010Journal of Natural Gas Chemistry2010,19,3:26
2BMP-IHH-mediated interplay between mesenchymal stem cells and osteoclasts supports calvarial bone homeostasis and repair显示文摘Calvarial bones are connected by fibrous sutures. These sutures provide a niche environment that includes mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs), osteoblasts, and osteoclasts, which help maintain calvarial bone homeostasis and repair. Abnormal function of osteogenic cells or diminished MSCs within the cranial suture can lead to skull defects, such as craniosynostosis. Despite the important function of each of these cell types within the cranial suture, we have limited knowledge about the role that crosstalk between them may play in regulating calvarial bone homeostasis and injury repair. Here we show that suture MSCs give rise to osteoprogenitors that show active bone morphogenetic protein(BMP) signalling and depend on BMP-mediated Indian hedgehog(IHH) signalling to balance osteogenesis and osteoclastogenesis activity. IHH signalling and receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-Β ligand(RANKL) may function synergistically to promote the differentiation and resorption activity of osteoclasts. Loss of Bmpr1a in MSCs leads to downregulation of hedgehog(Hh) signalling and diminished cranial sutures. Significantly, activation of Hh signalling partially restores suture morphology in Bmpr1a mutant mice, suggesting the functional importance of BMP-mediated Hh signalling in regulating suture tissue homeostasis. Furthermore, there is an increased number of CD200+ cells in Bmpr1a mutant mice, which may also contribute to the inhibited osteoclast activity in the sutures of mutant mice. Finally, suture MSCs require BMPmediated Hh signalling during the repair of calvarial bone defects after injury. 3Confirmation of pelitic granulite in the Altai orogen and its geological significance显示文摘The existence of pelitic granulite in the Altai orogen was confirmed for the first time by detailed petrographic research and P-T pseudosection modeling. The pelitic granulite has the assemblage of garnet + cordierite + K-feldspar + biotite + sillimanite + plagioclase + quartz with some samples containing the paragenesis of cordierite + spinel. Peak conditions of the pelitic granulite determined from the P-T pseudosection involved P = 0.5―0.6 GPa, T = 780―800℃, belonging to medium-to low-pressure type. SHRIMP U-Pb dating of zircon presented a metamorphic age of 292.8 ± 2.3 Ma. 4A model for estimating flow assurance of hydrate slurry in pipelines显示文摘The problem of hydrate blockage of pipelines in offshore production is becoming ever-increasing severe because oil fields in ever-increasing unusual environments have been brought in production.HCFC-141b and THF were selected as the substitutes to study the flow assurance of the hydrates in pipelines.There are critical hydrate volume concentrations for these two slurries.Hydrate slurries behave like Bingham fluids and have high agglomerating tendency when the hydrate volume concentrations are larger than the critical ones.Based on rheological behaviors of these two hydrates,a non-dimensional parameter is proposed through studying the driving forces of agglomeration among hydrate particles,which shows the agglomerating probability of hydrate particles in pipeline and can be used to judge the safety of the pipeline.Moreover,a safe model to judge the safely flow hydrate slurries was presented and verified with the experimental data,which demonstrates that the model is effective to judge whether the pipeline can be run safely or not.Wuchang Wang Shuanshi Fan Deqing Liang Yuxing Li 2010Journal of Natural Gas Chemistry2010,19,4:10

10Advanced smart biomaterials and constructs for hard tissue engineering and regeneration显示文摘Hard tissue repair and regeneration cost hundreds of billions of dollars annually worldwide, and the need has substantially increased as the population has aged. Hard tissues include bone and tooth structures that contain calcium phosphate minerals.Smart biomaterial-based tissue engineering and regenerative medicine methods have the exciting potential to meet this urgent need. Smart biomaterials and constructs refer to biomaterials and constructs that possess instructive/inductive or triggering/stimulating effects on cells and tissues by engineering the material's responsiveness to internal or external stimuli or have intelligently tailored properties and functions that can promote tissue repair and regeneration. The smart material-based approaches include smart scaffolds and stem cell constructs for bone tissue engineering; smart drug delivery systems to enhance bone regeneration; smart dental resins that respond to pH to protect tooth structures; smart pH-sensitive dental materials to selectively inhibit acid-producing bacteria; smart polymers to modulate biofilm species away from a pathogenic composition and shift towards a healthy composition; and smart materials to suppress biofilms and avoid drug resistance. These smart biomaterials can not only deliver and guide stem cells to improve tissue regeneration and deliver drugs and bioactive agents with spatially and temporarily controlled releases but can also modulate/suppress biofilms and combat infections in wound sites. 12Intergrowth texture in Au-Ag-Te minerals from Sandaowanzi gold deposit,Heilongjiang Province:Implications for ore-forming environment显示文摘Sandaowanzi gold deposit,Heilongjiang Province,is the only single telluride type gold deposit so far documented in the world,in which 90% of gold is hosted in gold-silver telluride minerals.Optical microscope observation,scanning electron microscope,electron probe and X-ray diffraction analysis identified abundant intergrowth textures in the Au-Ag-Te minerals,typified by sylvanite-hosting hessite crystals and hessite-hosting petzite crystals.The intergrown minerals and their chemistry are consistent,and the hosted minerals are mostly worm-like or as oriented stripes,evenly distributed in the hosting minerals,with clear and smooth interfaces.These suggest an exsolution origin for the intergrowth texture.With reference to the phase-transformation temperature derived from synthesis experiments of tellurides,the exsolution texture of Au-Ag-Te minerals implies that the veined tellurides formed at 150-220℃.The early stage disseminated tellurides formed at log f(Te 2) from 13.6 to 7.8,log f(S 2) from 11.7 to 7.6,whereas the late stage veined tellurides formed at log f(Te 2) ranging from 11.2 to 9.7 and log f(S 2) from 16.8 to 12.2.XU Hong YU YuXing WU XiangKe YANG LiJun TIAN Zhu GAO Shen WANG QiuShu 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,21:6
13Comparison of Mg^(2+)- and Ca^(2+)-enhancing anaerobic granulation in an expanded granular sludge-bed reactor显示文摘The mechanisms responsible for the fast granulation of anaerobic sludge caused by Mg2+ and Ca2+ addition was examined in four lab-scale expanded granular sludge bed(EGSB) reactors. Results indicated that both Mg2+ and Ca2+ accelerated the sludge-granulation process and increased the amount of polysaccharides and proteins in the sludge. Energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry(EDX) analysis revealed that, in a mature granule, both Mg2+ and Ca2+ composed as phosphate and calcium was distributed primarily in the periphery of the granule, while magnesium distributed mainly in the interior. The addition of Mg2+ was more favorable for the nuclei formation, whereas the addition of Ca2+ was more favorable for subgranule growth and maintaining the granules' rigid structure. 14Quantitative reconstruction of the paleosalinity in the Daihai Lake,Inner Mongolia,China显示文摘Ostracods are small bivalved aquatic crustaceans. They secrete shells of low-Mg calcite that are often preserved in lake sediments. Recent work has shown that the uptake of trace elements (especially Mg and Sr) into the shell may be a function of the salinity and temperature of the host water. We measured Sr/Ca ratios in living ostracod valves from the species of genus Limnocythere cf. inopinata and Sr2+/Ca2+ ratios of the host water to calculate distribution coefficient of genus Limnocythere cf. inopinata in the Daihai Lake. A function for Sr2+/Ca2+ ratio and salinity was established by measuring a series of Sr2+/Ca2+ ratios and salinities of the lake water in different places of the Daihai Lake. 16A scalable code dissemination protocol in heterogeneous wireless sensor networks显示文摘Code dissemination is currently a major research issue in wireless sensor networks (WSNs).Many studies focus on code dissemination in homogeneous WSNs,mainly using a broadcast approach to solve this problem;few studies on code dissemination in heterogeneous WSNs.Furthermore,broadcasting cannot readily be used to solve the heterogenous WSN code dissemination problem directly,which is where we have focused our attention.We transformed this problem into a minimum non-leaf nodes (MNN) Steiner tree problem.We designed a scalable multicast protocol,named Heterogeneous Sensor Networks Scalable Reprogramming Protocol (HSR) to solve the MNN problem.HSR can build different multicast trees according to different nodes or code modules to disseminate different codes to them.HSR is able to approximate the MNN tree problem to a ratio of ln|R| (R is the set of all destinations) best known lowest bound.Therefore,the communication cost is significantly decreased and the total energy required by WSNs is reduced.We further designed two scalable schemes,special routing log and hops-restricted local broadcast,which compress the multicast tree information and deliver the multicast messages without loss.We also designed a 3-stage pipeline to speed up the transmission of packets,which alleviated interference and hidden terminal issues.We evaluated our design through comprehensive simulations and prototype implementations on Mica2 motes.Experimental results demonstrate that HSR outperforms previous protocols including the most recent studies on Sprinkler and uCast.PENG ShaoLiang LI ShanShan LIAO XiangKe PENG YuXing XIAO Nong 2012Science China(Information Sciences)2012,55,6:5
17Physical effect of cloud seeding revealed by NOAA satellite imagery显示文摘From 0615 to 0749 UTC, 14 March 2000, a precipitation enhancement operation with AgI using an air- craft was conducted at the middle part of Shaanxi Province, China. 80 min after cloud seeding (0735 UTC), NOAA-14 satellite data showed a vivid zigzag cloud track on the satel- lite image. Its length is 301 km, and its average and maxi- mum width are 8.3 and 11 km. The cloud track is very simi- lar in shape with, but different in position and width from that of cloud seeding line. In order to determine that the cloud track is indeed caused by cloud seeding, a three-dimensional numerical model of transport and diffu- sion of seeding material is used to simulate the shape of seeding material concentration distribution, the turning points, width and length of seeding line. The simulated re- sults are compared with the features of cloud track at 0735 UTC. Every segment of the cloud track is consistent with the transport and diffusion of every segment of seeding line. The transport position, length, width and the variation trend of seeding line agree with those of cloud track. All suggest that the cloud track is the direct physical reflection of cloud seed- ing effect on the cloud top, which can respond to the trans- port and diffusion of seeding material. For this study case, the main effecting duration for every segment of seeding line is from 20 to 80 min, the time for each segment of seeding line diffusing to the maximum width is from about 50 to 70 min. This time is obtained from the appearing and disap- pearing time, width variation of the cloud track segments and simulated results. 18Effects of water-aging for 6 months on the durability of a novel antimicrobial and protein-repellent dental bonding agent显示文摘Biofilms at the tooth-restoration bonded interface can produce acids and cause recurrent caries. Recurrent caries is a primary reason for restoration failures. The objectives of this study were to synthesize a novel bioactive dental bonding agent containing dimethylaminohexadecyl methacrylate(DMAHDM) and 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine(MPC) to inhibit biofilm formation at the tooth-restoration margin and to investigate the effects of water-aging for 6 months on the dentin bond strength and protein-repellent and antibacterial durability. A protein-repellent agent(MPC) and antibacterial agent(DMAHDM) were added to a Scotchbond multi-purpose(SBMP) primer and adhesive. Specimens were stored in water at 37 °C for 1, 30, 90, or 180 days(d).At the end of each time period, the dentin bond strength and protein-repellent and antibacterial properties were evaluated. Protein attachment onto resin specimens was measured by the micro-bicinchoninic acid approach. A dental plaque microcosm biofilm model was used to test the biofilm response. The SBMP + MPC + DMAHDM group showed no decline in dentin bond strength after water-aging for 6 months, which was significantly higher than that of the control(P < 0.05). The SBMP + MPC + DMAHDM group had protein adhesion that was only 1/20 of that of the SBMP control(P < 0.05). Incorporation of MPC and DMAHDM into SBMP provided a synergistic effect on biofilm reduction. The antibacterial effect and resistance to protein adsorption exhibited no decrease from 1 to 180 d(P > 0.1). In conclusion, a bonding agent with MPC and DMAHDM achieved a durable dentin bond strength and long-term resistance to proteins and oral bacteria. However, most heavy metals can inhibit the growth of SRB during heavy metal treatment processes. Sulfide is a metabolic product of SRB and it can precipitate or reduce heavy metals. This study focused on the effects of sulfide on SRB resistance to Cu(II), Hg(I) and Cr(VI) toxicity. First, we considered the existence style of various heavy metals with and without sulfide addition by sequential extraction experiments. Second, the particle size distribution was evaluated and the cell structure during the metabolism of a SRB culture, containing different heavy metals, was analyzed by particle size distribution and TEM analyses. Third, the evolution of sulfate under the influence of different concentrations of heavy metals with and without sulfide addition was investigated to evaluate SRB activity. The results indicated that sulfide played an important role in alleviating and even eliminating the toxicity of Cu(II), Hg(II) and Cr(VI).
