Supplementation with sodium butyrate improves growth and antioxidant function in dairy calves before weaning显示文摘Background: There is increasing research interest in using short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs) including butyrate as potential alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters in animal production. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of supplementation of sodium butyrate(SB) in liquid feeds(milk, milk replacer, and the mixture of both)on the growth performance, rumen fermentation, and serum antioxidant capacity and immunoglobins in dairy calves before weaning. Forty healthy female Holstein calves(4-day-old, 40 ± 5 kg of body weight) were housed in individual hutches and randomly allocated to 1 of 4 treatment groups(n = 10 per group) using the RAND function in Excel. The control group was fed no SB(SB0), while the other three groups were supplemented with 15(SB15),30(SB30), or 45(SB45) g/d of SB mixed into liquid feeds offered. The calves were initially fed milk only(days 2 to 20), then a mixture of milk and milk replacer(days 21 to 23), and finally milk replacer only(days 24 to 60).Results: The SB supplementation enhanced growth and improved feed conversion into body weight gain compared with the SB0 group, and the average daily gain increased quadratically with increasing SB supplementation. No significant effect on rumen pH;concentrations of NH_3-N, individual and total VFAs;or acetate:propionate(A:P) ratio was found during the whole experimental period. Serum glutathione peroxidase activity increased linearly with the increased SB supplementation, while the serum concentration of maleic dialdehyde linearly decreased. Serum concentrations of immunoglobulin A, immunoglobulin G, or immunoglobulin M were not affected by the SB supplementation during the whole experimental period. Conclusions: Under the conditions of this study, SB supplementation improved growth performance and antioxidant function in pre-weaned dairy calves. We recommended 45 g/d as the optimal level of SB supplementation mixed into liquid feeds(milk or milk replacer) to improve the growth and antioxidant function of dairy calves before weaning.Wenhui Liu ALa Teng Zhu La Alexander Evans Shengtao Gao Zhongtang Yu Dengpan Bu Lu Ma 2021Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2021,12,1:10
A phylogenetic census of global diversity of gut anaerobic fungiand a new taxonomic framework显示文摘Obligate anaerobic fungi of the phylum Neocallimastigomycota play a key role in digesting fibrous feeds in the gut ofherbivores, but little is known about their global diversity. In this study, the collective diversity of gut anaerobic fungi wasexamined using all curated internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1) sequences of anaerobic gut fungi available in GenBank. The 262,770 quality-checked fungal ITS1 sequences downloaded from GenBank were assigned to 274 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) at the approximate species level. Of these approximate species-equivalent (Sp-eq) OTUs, 119 wererepresented by at least five ITS1 sequences, with 38 containing known species and 81 containing no known species. Basedon a rarefaction analysis, the currently available ITS1 sequences represent nearly all the major species of gut anaerobicfungi, but much more sequencing effort is needed to assess the actual richness of minor OTUs. One dataset of ITS1reference sequences (referred to as AF-RefSeq) and one comprehensive taxonomic framework are also presented, and theyare shown to be suitable for taxonomic classification of most of the ITS1 sequences in GenBank. The results of the presentstudy may help guide future studies involving taxonomic and phylogenetic analysis of ITS1 sequences of anaerobic fungiand targeted isolation and characterization of new anaerobic fungi.Shyam Sundar Paul Dengpan Bu Jianchu Xu Kevin D.Hyde Zhongtang Yu 2018Fungal Diversity2018,,2:4
Structural design and parameter determination for fluted-roller fertilizer applicator显示文摘The instability of the motion layer of fertilizer particle influences the precision and the accuracy of the amount of fertilizer application in the working process of fluted-roller fertilizer applicator. The characteristics of the motion layer were investigated, and a systematic scheme was proposed for designing the structures of fertilizer-filling cavity,fertilizer-filling surface and fertilizer-delivery cavity. The key parameters of the structure were studied by discrete element method. It was figured out that to ensure the smooth operation of fertilizer applicator, the fertilizer-filling angle was 105°,fertilizer-contact angle should be large than 100°,and the fertilizer-resistance angle should be smaller than 35°.Moreover,the stability of fertilizer motion morphology was investigated to verify the design. The results showed that when the roll rotational speed was larger than 120 deg/s,compared with the conventional design the CV of the amount of fertilizer application was reduced from 1.5%-3.5%to 0.5%-1.0%,and the accuracy of the fertilizer discharge was improved with the square of the correlation coefficient between the amount of fertilizer application and the roll rotational speed was larger than 0.999.It was deduced from the results that the precision and accuracy of the amount of fertilizer application are improved via eliminating the driving layer and enhancing the stable filling and conveying of the forced layer.Shan Zeng Yipeng Tan Yu Wang Xiwen Luo Lamei Yao Dengpan Huang Zewen Mo 2020International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2020,13,2:4
Dietary energy sources and levels shift the multi-kingdom microbiota and functions in the rumen of lactating dairy cows显示文摘Background: Dietary energy source and level in lactation diets can profoundly affect milk yield and composition.Such dietary effects on lactation performance are underpinned by alteration of the rumen microbiota, of which bacteria, archaea, fungi, and protozoa may vary differently. However, few studies have examined all the four groups of rumen microbes. This study investigated the effect of both the level and source of dietary energy on rumen bacteria, archaea, fungi, and protozoa in the rumen of lactating dairy cows. A 2 × 2 factorial design resulted in four dietary treatments: low and high dietary energy levels(LE: 1.52–1.53;and HE: 1.71–1.72 Mcal/kg dry matter) and two dietary energy sources(GC: finely ground corn;and SFC: steam-flaked corn). We used a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square design using eight primiparous Chinese Holstein cows with each period lasting for 21 d. The rumen microbiota was analyzed using metataxonomics based on kingdom-specific phylogenetic markers [16 S r RNA gene for bacteria and archaea, 18 S r RNA gene for protozoa, and internally transcribed spacer 1(ITS1) for fungi] followed with subsequent functional prediction using PICRUSt2.Results: The GC resulted in a higher prokaryotic(bacterial and archaeal) species richness and Faith's phylogenetic diversity than SFC. For the eukaryotic(fungi and protozoa) microbiota, the LE diets led to significantly higher values of the above measurements than the HE diets. Among the major classified taxa, 23 genera across all the kingdoms differed in relative abundance between the two dietary energy levels, while only six genera(none being protozoal)were differentially abundant between the two energy sources. Based on prokaryotic amplicon sequence variants(ASVs) from all the samples, overall functional profiles predicted using PICRUSt2 differed significantly between LE and HE but not between the two energy sources. Fish Taco analysis identified Ruminococcus and Coprococcus as the taxa potentially contributing to the enriched KEGG pathways for biosynthesis of amino acids and to the metabolisms of pyruvate, glycerophospholipid, and nicotinate and nicotinamide in the rumen of HE-fed cows. The co-occurrence networks were also affected by the dietary treatments, especially the LE and GC diets, resulting in distinct co-occurrence networks. Several microbial genera appeared to be strongly correlated with one or more lactation traits. Conclusions: Dietary energy level affected the overall rumen multi-kingdom microbiota while little difference was noted between ground corn and steam-flaked corn. Some genera were also affected differently by the four dietary treatments, including genera that had been shown to be correlated with lactation performance or feed efficiency. The co-occurrence patterns among the genera exclusively found for each dietary treatment may suggest possible metabolic interactions specifically affected by the dietary treatment. Some of the major taxa were positively correlated to milk properties and may potentially serve as biomarkers of one or more lactation traits.Tansol Park Lu Ma Ying Ma Xiaoqiao Zhou Dengpan Bu Zhongtang Yu 2020Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2020,11,4:3
Separation and recovery of associated rare earths from the Zhijin phosphorite using hydrochloric acid显示文摘The separation and extraction of associated rare earths from the Zhijin phosphorite mine is of great interest. Based on previous studies, the hydrolysis of phosphate ore using hydrochloric acid was systematically studied through extensive testing. Experiments were conducted to separate and recover the rare earths from the hydrolysis solution. Kinetic studies on the acidolysis of phosphorite using hydrochloric acid show that the use of hydrochloric acid in the acidolysis of phosphorite is mainly controlled by a chemical reaction and is also a diffusion-controlled reaction. When 210 L of HCL per 100 kg of phosphorite was used at 30 ℃ for 360 min, 96.1% of the P_2 O_5 and 95.0% of the rare earths are leached from the phosphorite. After defluorination and purification, the pH of the phosphate-acid solution is adjusted to 2.1 using sodium hydroxide, and a rare earth concentrate with rare earth content of 1.76 wt%is obtained; i.e., 90.1% of the rare earths are recovered. The rare earth content is increased to more than5 wt% through multiple enrichment processes, with a total yield of 59.5%.Dengpan Nie An Xue Mingyang Zhu Yu Zhang Jianxin Cao 2019Journal of Rare Earths2019,37,4:3
Community Structure Dynamics of the Hermatypic Corals on Luhuitou Fringing Reef,Hainan,China.I.Species Composition and Abundance显示文摘The existing hermatypic coral community is composed of localities in different successional ages.Data sets were selected from original sampling data to deduce the trajectory of community structure in this and subsequent papers.Patterns of species composition and abundance distribution during community succession in the scope of different habitats were described in this paper. It is found that the effect of succession on community structure is closely correlated with the environmental conditions. Each coral assemblage in different habitat has its own distinguishing temporal pattern of species composition and abundance distribution.YU DENGPAN ZOU RENLINSouth China Sea Institute of Oceanology,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Guangzhou 510301 1996生物多样性1996,4,B10:1
Synthesis and structure analysis of aluminum doped zinc oxide powders显示文摘Hexagonal Al-doped zinc oxide (ZnO) powders with a nominal composition of Zn1-xAlxO (0≤x≤0.028) were synthesized by the co-precipitation method. The contents of the Al element in the samples were measured by the inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) technique. The structures of the Zn1-xAlxO (0≤x≤0.028) compounds calcined at 1000 and 1200℃ have been deter- mined using the Rietveld full-profile analysis method. Rietveld refinements of the diffraction data indi- cated that the addition of Al initially has a considerably positive effect on the decreasing of the lattice parameters a and c of Zn1-xAlxO, but the effect becomes very slight and even negative with the further increase of the Al content. The solid solubility limit of Al in ZnO (mole fraction y) is 2.2l%, resulting in Zn0.978Al0.22O. It seems that when the Al content is excessive, Al prefers to form a ZnAl2O4 compound with ZnO, but not to incorporate into the ZnO lattice to occupy the Zn2+ cites. Two phases, [ZnO] (or Al-doped ZnO) and [ZnAl2O4], are obviously segregated in Zn1-xAlxO while the value of x is larger than 0.024. The UV-Vis absorption spectra show that the Al-doped ZnO exhibits a red-shift in the absorption edge without reduced transmission compared with pure ZnO, which also confirms that Al ions enter the ZnO lattice and form a Zn1-xAlxO solid solution.NIE DengPan XUE Tao ZHANG Yu LI XiangJun 2008Science China Chemistry2008,51,9:1
Migration behavior, separation and recycling of rare earth during thermal decomposition of Zhijin phosphorus ore显示文摘Zhijin phosphorus ore is a moderate and low-grade phosphorus rare-earth ore contained in mines. The separation and extraction of associated rare earth are important research topics. In this study, the migration behavior of rare earth during the thermal decomposition of Zhijin phosphorus ore and the separation and extraction of rare earth in phosphorus slag are discussed systematically. During the thermal decomposition process of phosphorus ore, almost all of the associated rare earth enters into the phosphorus slag phase but does not enter into the ferrophosphorus or gas phases. Amorphous calcium metasilicate and calcium fluosilicate are major components of phosphorus slag, and rare earth mainly exists as a calsil solid solution. Hydrochloric acid was used for acidolysis of the phosphorous slag.Under the following conditions, 96% of the rare earth in the phosphorous slag can be dissolved in the acidolysis solution: acid excess coefficient of 1.5, reaction time of 50 min and reaction temperature of 50℃. The rare earth in the acidolysis solution was separated and recycled using oxalic acid as a precipitator and NaOH as a pH modifier. At pH of 1.7, rare-earth-enriched matter with rare-earth content of 2.1 wt% was obtained, and the recovery of the rare earth was 88%.Dengpan Nie Yu Zhang An Xue Mingyang Zhu Jianxin Cao 2018Journal of Rare Earths2018,36,11:1

Heat stress impacts the multi-domain ruminal microbiota and some of the functional features independent of its effect on feed intake in lactating dairy cows显示文摘Background:Heat stress(HS)affects the ruminal microbiota and decreases the lactation performance of dairy cows.Because HS decreases feed intake, the results of previous studies were confounded by the effect of HS on feed intake. This study examined the direct effect of HS on the ruminal microbiota using lactating Holstein cows that were pair-fed and housed in environmental chambers in a 2×2 crossover design. The cows were pair-fed the same amount of identical total mixed ration to eliminate the effect of feed or feed intake. The composition and structure of the microbiota of prokaryotes, fungi, and protozoa were analyzed using metataxonomics and compared between two thermal conditions:pair-fed thermoneutrality(PFTN,thermal humidity index:65.5)and HS(87.2 for daytime and 81.8 for nighttime). Results:The HS conditions altered the structure of the prokaryotic microbiota and the protozoal microbiota, but not the fungal microbiota.Heat stress significantly increased the relative abundance of Bacteroidetes(primarily Gram-negative bacteria)while decreasing that of Firmicutes(primarily Gram-positive bacteria)and the Firmicutes-toBacteroidetes ratio. Some genera were exclusively found in the heat-stressed cows and thermal control cows. Some co-occurrence and mutual exclusion between some genera were also found exclusively for each thermal condition.Heat stress did not significantly affect the overall functional features predicted using the 16S rRNA gene sequences and ITS1 sequences, but some enzyme-coding genes altered their relative abundance in response to HS.Conclusions:Overall,HS affected the prokaryotes, fungi, and protozoa of the ruminal microbiota in lactating Holstein cows to a different extent, but the effect on the structure of ruminal microbiota and functional profiles was limited when not confounded by the effect on feed intake. However, some genera and co-occurrence were exclusively found in the rumen of heat-stressed cows. These effects should be attributed to the direct effect of heat stress on the host metabolism, physiology, and behavior. Some of the“heat-stress resistant”microbes may be useful as potential probiotics for cows under heat stress.Tansol Park Lu Ma Shengtao Gao Dengpan Bu Zhongtang Yu 2022Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2022,13,6:0
