1Epidural electrical stimulation for spinal cord injury显示文摘A long-standing goal of spinal cord injury research is to develop effective repair strategies,which can restore motor and sensory functions to near-normal levels.Recent advances in clinical management of spinal cord injury have significantly improved the prognosis,survival rate and quality of life in patients with spinal cord injury.In addition,a significant progress in basic science research has unraveled the underlying cellular and molecular events of spinal cord injury.Such efforts enabled the development of pharmacologic agents,biomaterials and stem-cell based therapy.Despite these efforts,there is still no standard care to regenerate axons or restore function of silent axons in the injured spinal cord.These challenges led to an increased focus on another therapeutic approach,namely neuromodulation.In multiple animal models of spinal cord injury,epidural electrical stimulation of the spinal cord has demonstrated a recovery of motor function.Emerging evidence regarding the efficacy of epidural electrical stimulation has further expanded the potential of epidural electrical stimulation for treating patients with spinal cord injury.However,most clinical studies were conducted on a very small number of patients with a wide range of spinal cord injury.Thus,subsequent studies are essential to evaluate the therapeutic potential of epidural electrical stimulation for spinal cord injury and to optimize stimulation parameters.Here,we discuss cellular and molecular events that continue to damage the injured spinal cord and impede neurological recovery following spinal cord injury.We also discuss and summarize the animal and human studies that evaluated epidural electrical stimulation in spinal cord injury.Elliot H.Choi Sandra Gattas Nolan J.Brown John D.Hong Joshua N.Limbo Alvin Y.Chan Michael Y.Oh 2021Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,12:5
2Interleukin-6 mediates neutrophil mobilization from bone marrow in pulmonary hypertension显示文摘Myeloid cells,such as neutrophils,are produced in the bone marrow in high quantities and are important in the pathogenesis of vascular diseases such as pulmonary hypertension(PH).Although neutrophil recruitment into sites of inflammation has been well studied,the mechanisms of neutrophil egress from the bone marrow are not well understood.Using computational flow cytometry,we observed increased neutrophils in the lungs of patients and mice with PH.Moreover,we found elevated levels of IL-6 in the blood and lungs of patients and mice with PH.We observed that transgenic mice overexpressing Il-6 in the lungs displayed elevated neutrophil egress from the bone marrow and exaggerated neutrophil recruitment to the lungs,resulting in exacerbated pulmonary vascular remodeling,and dysfunctional hemodynamics.Mechanistically,we found that IL-6-induced neutrophil egress from the bone marrow was dependent on interferon regulatory factor 4(IRF-4)-mediated CX3CR1 expression in neutrophils.Consequently,Cx3cr1 genetic deficiency in hematopoietic cells in Il-6-transgenic mice significantly reduced neutrophil egress from bone marrow and decreased neutrophil counts in the lungs,thus ameliorating pulmonary remodeling and hemodynamics.In summary,these findings define a novel mechanism of IL-6-induced neutrophil egress from the bone marrow and reveal a new therapeutic target to curtail neutrophil-mediated inflammation in pulmonary vascular disease.Jonathan Florentin Jingsi Zhao Yi-Yin Tai Sathish Babu Vasamsetti Scott P.O’Neil Rahul Kumar Anagha Arunkumar Annie Watson John Sembrat Grant C.Bullock Linda Sanders Biruk Kassa Mauricio Rojas Brian B.Graham Stephen Y.Chan Partha Dutta 2021Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,2:3

4Perceived stress among Macao nursing students in the clinical learning environment显示文摘Objective:This study aimed at investigation of the stress perceived by Macao nursing students in the clinical learning environment.Methods:A cross-sectional research was designed and 203 nursing students in a public higher education institute were recruited.The Stressors in Nursing Students Scale-Chinese Version(SINS-CN)was used to measure nursing students'stress.Data analysis includes descriptive analysis and analysis of variance.Results:The overall SINS-CN mean score was 3.33(SD=0.49),while the scores for different dimensions were:clinical,3.44(SD=0.54),education,3.35(SD=0.62),finance and time,3.31(SD=0.72),confidence,3.21(SD=0.60),and personal problems,3.03(SD=0.68).Among 10 most common stressors,four belong to the clinical dimension,four to the education dimension,one to the confidence dimension,and one to the finance&time dimension.Analysis for factors associated with stress indicated that no statistical significance was found in most demographic variables,except year two students'stress scores were significantly lower than those of students in other years(p values were between 0.000 and 0.026).Conclusions:Macao nursing students,to some extent,experienced stress in clinical learning environment and the stress level was higher than that of Hong Kong nursing students.The most common stressors were related to clinical and educational dimensions.The study suggests that teaching and learning modalities and the workload of nursing students should be reviewed.Ming Liu Ken Gu Thomas K.S.Wong Min Z.Luo Men Y.Chan 2015International Journal of Nursing Sciences2015,2,2:1

9A Class Effect Network Meta-analysis of Lipid Modulation in Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis for Dyslipidemia显示文摘Background and Aims:Pharmaceutical therapy for NASH is associated with lipid modulation,but the consensus on drug treatment is limited and lacks comparative analysis of effectiveness.A network meta-analysis was conducted to compare NASH drug classes in lipid modulation.Methods:Online databases were searched for randomized controlled trails(RCTs)evaluating NASH treatments in biopsy-proven NASH patients.Treatments were classified into four groups:(1)inflammation,(2)energy,(3)bile acids,and(4)fibro-sis based on the mechanism of action.A Bayesian network analysis was conducted with outcome measured by mean difference(MD)with credible intervals(Crl)and surface un-der the cumulative ranking curve(SUCRA).Results:Forty-four RCTs were included in the analysis.Bile acid modulat-ing treatments(MD:0.05,Crl:0.03-0.07)were the best treatment for improvement in high-density lipid(HDL)cho-lesterol,followed by treatments modulating energy(MD:0.03,Crl:0.02-0.04)and fibrosis(MD:0.01,Crl:−0.12 to 0.14)compared with placebo.The top three treatments for reduction in triglycerides were treatments modulating energy(MD:−0.46,Crl:−0.49 to−0.43),bile acids(MD:−0.22,Crl:−0.35 to−0.09),and inflammation(MD:−0.08,Crl:−0.13 to−0.03)compared with placebo.SUCRA found treatment modulating fibrosis(MD:−1.27,Crl:−1.76 to−0.79)was the best treatment for reduction in low-density lipid(LDL)cholesterol followed by treatment modulating in-flammation(MD:−1.03,Crl:−1.09 to−0.97)and energy(MD:−0.37,Crl:−0.39 to−0.34)compared with placebo,but LDL cholesterol was worsened by treatments modulat-ing bile acids.Conclusions:Network analysis comparing the class effects of dyslipidemia modulation in NASH found that treatment targets can include optimization of athero-genic dyslipidemia.Future studies are required to evaluate the cardiovascular outcomes.Jieling Xiao Cheng-Han Ng Yip-Han Chin Darren Jun Hao Tan Wen-Hui Lim Grace Lim Jingxuan Quek Ansel Shao Pin Tang Kai-En Chan Rou-Yi Soong Nicholas Chew Benjamin Tay Daniel Q.Huang Nobuharu Tamaki Roger Foo Mark Y.Chan Mazen Noureddin Mohammad Shadab Siddiqui Arun J.Sanyaland Mark D.Muthiah 2022Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2022,10,6:0
