| 1 | Impact of oxygation on soil respiration, yield and water use efficiency of three crop species显示文摘Oxygation refers to irrigation of crops with aerated water,through air injection using the venturi principle or the supply of hydrogen peroxide in the root zone,both using subsurface drip irrigation(SDI)system.Oxygation improves water use efficiency(WUE),producing more yield and,and therefore,optimizes the use of drip and SDI.But the efficiency of oxygation is quite possibly dependent on a number of factors.The primary objective of this study was,therefore,to quantify the effects of oxygation,emitter depths and soil type on crop root zone oxygen content,soil respiration,plant physiological response,biomass yield,quality and WUE of three crop species.Methods This study investigated the potential of oxygation to enhance soil respiration,plant growth,yield and water use efficiencies(WUE)of cotton and wheat in experiments in enclosed heavy-duty concrete troughs(tubs)and pineapple and cotton in field experiments.Experimental treatments in tubs for wheat included comparisons between two soil types(vertisol and ferrosol)and superimposed were two oxygation methods(Mazzei air injector and Seair Diffusion System)compared to a control,and for cotton,emitters at two depths using Mazzei air injectors were compared to a control.The field experiments compared Mazzei air injectors and a control for cotton in Emerald and pineapple in Yeppoon,both in central Queensland,Australia.Important findings In all experiments,soil oxygen content and soil respiration markedly increased in response to the oxygation treatments.The O2 concentration in the crop root zone increased by 2.4–32.6%,for oxygation compared to control at the same depth.The soil respiration increased by 42–100%.The number of wheat ears,leaf dry weight and total dry matter were significantly greater in Mazzei and Seair oxygation compared to the control.Fresh biomass of wheat increased by 11 and 8%,and dry weight of wheat increased by 8 and 3%in Mazzei and Seair oxygation treatments compared to the control,respectively.Likewise,the irrigation water use efficiency increased with oxygation compared to the control in wheat.The yield,WUE and number of other physiological parameters in wheat were enhanced in vertisol compared to ferrosol.The seed cotton yield in the tub experiment increased with oxygation by 14%,and significant differences for fresh biomass,dry matter and yield were also noted between oxygation and the control in the field.Lint yield and WUE both increased by 7%using Mazzei in the cotton field trial during 2008–09.There were significant effects of oxygation on pineapple fresh biomass,and dry matter weight,industry yield and a number of quality parameters were significantly improved.The total fruit yield and marketable increased by 17 and 4%and marketable WUE increased by 3%using Mazzei.Our data suggest that the benefits of oxygation are notable not only for dicotyledonous cotton but also for monocotyledonous wheat and pineapple representing different rooting morphologies and CO_(2) fixation pathways. | Xinming Chen Jay Dhungel Surya P.Bhattarai Manouchehr Torabi Lance Pendergast David J.Midmore | 2011 | Journal of Plant Ecology2011,4,4: | 46 |

| 3 | Research on Key Technologies of Precise InSAR Surveying and Mapping Applications Using Automatic SAR Imaging显示文摘Precise interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) is a new intelligent photogrammetric technology that uses automatic imaging and processing means. Precise InSAR has become the most efficient satellite surveying and mapping (SASM) method that uses the interferometric phase to create a global digital elevation model (DEM) with high precision. In this paper, we propose the application of systematic InSAR technologies to SASM. Three key technologies are proposed: calibration technology, data processing technology and post-processing technology. First, we need to calibrate the geometric and interferometric parameters including the azimuth time delay, range time delay, and atmospheric delay, as well as baseline errors. Second, we use the calibrated parameters to create a precise DEM. One of the important procedures in data processing is the determination of phase ambiguities. Finally, we improve the DEM quality through the joint use of the block adjustment method, long and short baseline combination method and descending and ascending data merge method. We use 6 sets of TanDEM-X data covering Shanxi to conduct the experiment. The root mean square error of the final DEM is 5.07 m in the mountainous regions. In addition, the low coherence area is 0.8 km 2. | 4 | Changes in visibility with PM_(2.5) composition and relative humidity at a background site in the Pearl River Delta region显示文摘In fall–winter, 2007–2013, visibility and light scattering coefficients(b sp) were measured along with PM_(2.5)mass concentrations and chemical compositions at a background site in the Pearl River Delta(PRD) region. The daily average visibility increased significantly(p < 0.01) at a rate of 1.1 km/year, yet its median stabilized at ~13 km. No haze days occurred when the 24-hr mean PM_(2.5)mass concentration was below 75 μg/m^3. By multiple linear regression on the chemical budget of particle scattering coefficient(b sp), we obtained site-specific mass scattering efficiency(MSE) values of 6.5 ± 0.2, 2.6 ± 0.3, 2.4 ± 0.7 and 7.3 ± 1.2 m2/g,respectively, for organic matter(OM), ammonium sulfate(AS), ammonium nitrate(AN) and sea salt(SS). The reconstructed light extinction coefficient(b ext) based on the Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments(IMPROVE) algorithm with our site-specific MSE revealed that OM, AS, AN, SS and light-absorbing carbon(LAC) on average contributed 45.9% ± 1.6%,25.6% ± 1.2%, 12.0% ± 0.7%, 11.2% ± 0.9% and 5.4% ± 0.3% to light extinction, respectively.Averaged b ext displayed a significant reduction rate of 14.1/Mm·year(p < 0.05); this rate would be 82% higher if it were not counteracted by increasing relative humidity(RH) and hygroscopic growth factor(f(RH)) at rates of 2.5% and 0.16/year-1(p < 0.01), respectively, during the fall–winter, 2007–2013. | 6 | Effect of pre-deformation on the stress corrosion cracking susceptibility of aluminum alloy 2519显示文摘The effects of pre-deformation and strain rate on the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behavior of aluminum alloy 2519 in air and in 3.5% NaCl water solution were investigated by means of slow strain rate tension (SSRT), scanning elec- tron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results indicate that the alloy is susceptible to SCC in 3.5% NaCl water solution and not in air. At the same pre-deformation, the alloy is more susceptible to SCC at 1.33 × 10·5 s·1 than at 6.66 × 10·5 s·1. Moreover, it is more susceptible to SCC at free pre-deformation than at 10% pre-deformation at the same strain rate. | 7 | Ionic composition of submicron particles(PM_(1.0)) during the long-lasting haze period in January 2013 in Wuhan, central China显示文摘In January 2013, a long-lasting severe haze episode occurred in Northern and Central China; at its maximum, it covered a land area of approximately 1.4 million km2. In Wuhan, the largest city in Central China, this event was the most severe haze episode in the 21st century. Aerosol samples of submicron particles(PM1.0) were collected during the long-lasting haze episode at an urban site and a suburban site in Wuhan to investigate the ion characteristics of PM1.0 in this area. The mass concentrations of PM1.0 and its water-soluble inorganic ions(WSIIs) were almost at the same levels at two sites, which indicates that PM1.0 pollution occurs on a regional scale in Wuhan. WSIIs(Na+, NH+ 4, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl-, NO-3and SO2-4) were the dominant chemical species and constituted up to 48.4% and 47.4% of PM1.0 at WD and TH, respectively. The concentrations of PM1.0 and WSIIs on haze days were approximately two times higher than on normal days. The ion balance calculations indicate that the particles were more acidic on haze days than on normal days. The results reveal great annual and seasonal fluctuations in the nutrient concentrations and N:P:Si ratios during 1998-2008 with no clear pattern observed in the whole region. Yet on a seasonal scale of spring and in the coastal regions such as the Jiaozhou Bay and Sanggou Bay, the increase of DIN concentration and N:P ratio as well as the decrease of phosphate and silicate concentrations and Si:N ratios were relatively significant. Many pelagic ecosystem changes have occurred concurrent with these changes of the nutrient regime, such as the recent increase of primary production, changes of phytoplankton chlorophyll a biomass and abundance, an increase of eutrophication, and occurrence of HABs. | 11 | Soil Components Affecting Phosphate Sorption Parameters of Acid Paddy Soils in Guangdong Province显示文摘Soil components affecting phosphate sorption parameters were studied using acid paddy soils derived from basalt, granite, sand-shale and the Pearl River Delta sediments, respectively, in Guangdong Province. For each soil, seven 2.50 g subsamples were equilibrated with 50 mL 0.02 mol L-1 (pH=7.0) of KCI containing 0, 5, 10, 15, 25, 50 and 100 mg P kg-1, respectively, in order to derive P sorption parameters (P sorption maximum, P sorption intensity factor and maximum buffer capacity) by Langmuir isotherm equation. It was shown that the main soil components influencing phosphate sorption maximum (Xm) included soil clay, PH, amorphous iron oxide (Feo) and amorphous aluminum oxide (Alo), with their effects in the order of Alo > Feo > pH > clay. Among these components, pH had a negative effect, and the others had a positive effect. Organic matter (OM) was the only soil component influencing P sorption intensity factor (K). The main components influencing maximum phosphate buffer capacity (MBC) consisted of soil clay, OM,pH, Feo and Alo, with their effects in the order of Alo > OM > pH > Feo > clay. Path analysis indicated that among the components with positive effects on maximum phosphate buffer capacity (MBC), the effect was in the order of Alo > Feo > Clay, while among the components with negative effects, OM > pH. | 12 | Haze insights and mitigation in China: An overview显示文摘The present article provides an overview of the chemical and physical features of haze in China, focusing on the relationship between haze and atmospheric fine particles, and the formation mechanism of haze. It also summarizes several of control technologies and strategies to mitigate the occurrence of haze. The development of instruments and the analysis of measurements of ambient particles and precursor concentrations have provided important information about haze formation. Indeed, the use of new instruments has greatly facilitated current haze research in China. Examples of insightful results include the relationship between fine particles and haze, the chemical compositions and sources of particles, the impacts of the aging process on haze formation, and the application of technologies that control the formation of haze. | 15 | Effect of Exposure to Trace Elements in the Soil on the Prevalence of Neural Tube Defects in a High-Risk Area of China显示文摘Objective Our objective is to build a model that explains the association between the exposure to trace elements in the soil and the risk of neural tube defects. Methods We built a function with different parameters to describe the effects of trace elements on neural tube defects. The association between neural tube defects and trace element levels was transformed into an optimization problem using the maximum likelihood method. Results Tin, lead, nickel, iron, copper, and aluminum had typical layered effects (dosage effects) on the prevalence of neural tube defects. Arsenic, selenium, zinc, strontium, and vanadium had no effect, and molybdenum had one threshold value that affected the prevalence of birth defects. Conclusion As an exploratory research work, our model can be used to determine the direction of the effect of the trace element content of cultivated soil on the risk of neural tube defects, which shows the clues by the dosage effect of their toxicological characteristics. | 17 | Seasonal variability of the zooplankton community in the southwest of the Huanghai Sea (Yellow Sea) Cold Water Mass显示文摘Samples were collected with a plankton net in the four seasonal cruises during 2006-2007 to study the seasonal variability of the zooplankton community in the southwest part of Huanghai Sea Cold Water Mass (HSCWM, Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass). The spatial and temporal variations of zooplankton species composition, biomass, abundance and biodiversity were examined. A total of 122 zooplankton species and 30 pelagic larvae were identified in the four cruises. Calanus sinicus and Aidanosagitta crassa were the most dominant species, and Themisto gaudichaudi and Euphausia pacifica were widely distributed in the HSCWM area. The spatial patterns of non-gelatinous zooplankton (removing the high water content groups) were similar to those of the total zooplankton biomass in autumn, but different significantly in the other three seasons. The seasonal means of zooplankton biomass in spring and summer were much higher than that in autumn and winter. The total zooplankton abundance averaged 283.5 ind./m^3 in spring (highest), 192.5 ind./m^3 in summer, 165.5 ind./m^3 in autumn and 65.9 ind./m^3 in winter (lowest), and the non-gelatinous groups contributed the most total abundance. Correlation analysis suggests that the non-gelatinous zooplankton biomass and abundance had a significant positive correlation in the whole year, but the relationship was insignificant between the total zooplankton biomass and abundance in spring and summer. The diversity index H of zooplankton community averaged 1.88 in this study, which was somewhat higher than historical results. And thus its continuous wavelet transform (CWT) has been successfully used in the field of fault diagnosis. The principle of scale selection in CWT is discussed. Based on genetic algorithm,an opti-mization strategy for the waveform parameters of the mother wavelet is proposed with wavelet en-tropy as the optimization target. Based on the optimized waveform parameters,the wavelet scalogram is used to analyze the simulated acoustic emission (AE) signal and real AE signal of rolling bearing. | 19 | Role of ammonia in forming secondary aerosols from gasoline vehicle exhaust显示文摘Ammonia(NH3) plays vital roles in new particle formation and atmospheric chemistry. Although previous studies have revealed that it also influences the formation of secondary organic aerosols(SOA) from ozonolysis of biogenic and anthropogenic volatile organic compounds(VOCs), the influence of NH3 on particle formation from complex mixtures such as vehicle exhausts is still poorly understood. Here we directly introduced gasoline vehicles exhausts(GVE) into a smog chamber with NH3 absorbed by denuders to examine the role of NH3 in particle formation from GVE. We found that removing NH3 from GVE would greatly suppress the formation and growth of particles. Adding NH3 into the reactor after 3 h photo-oxidation of GVE, the particle number concentration and mass concentrations jumped explosively to much higher levels, indicating that the numbers and mass of particles might be enhanced when aged vehicle exhausts are transported to rural areas and mixed with NH3-rich plumes. We also found that the presence of NH3 had no significant influence on SOA formation from GVE. | 20 | Regenerative Braking Strategy for Motor Hoist by Ultracapacitor显示文摘Rising concern in environmental issues on global scale has made energy saving in powered equipment a very important subject.In order to improve the energy efficiency and driving range of a motor hoist,a regenerative braking system is designed and discussed.The system takes a unique ultracapacitor-only approach to energy storage system.The bi-directional bride DC?DC converter which regulates current flow to and from the ultracapacitor operates in two modes:boost and buck,depending on the direction of the flow.In order to provide constant input and output current at the ultracapacitor,this system uses a double proportional-integral(PI) control strategy in regulating the duty cycle of PWM to the DC?DC converter.The permanent magnet synchronous motor(PWSM) drive system is also studied.The space vector pulse width modulation(SVPWM) technique,along with a two-closed-loop vector control model,is adopted after detailed analysis of PMSM characteristics.The overall model and control strategy for this regenerative braking system is ultimately built and simulated under the MATLAB and Simulink environment.A test platform is built to obtain experimental results.Analysis of the results reveals that more than half of the gravitational potential energy can be recovered by this system.Simulation and experimentation results testify the validity of the double PI control strategy for interface circuit of ultracapacitor and SVPWM strategy for PMSM. | BIAN Yongming ZHU Lijing LAN Hao LI Anhu XU Xinming | 2012 | Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2012,25,2: | 7 |
