| 2 | Polymorphisms of MTHFD,plasma homocysteine levels, and risk of gastric cancer in ahigh-risk Chinese population显示文摘Purpose:Accumulative evidence suggests that folate has a protective effect on gastric cancer. The methylenetetrahyd-rofolate dlehydrogenase(MTHFD) plays an important role in folate and homocysteine metabolisms, and polymorphisms of MTHFD may result in disturbance of the folate-mediated homocysteine pathway. The aim of this study is to test the hypothesis that genetic variants of MTHFD and plasma homocysteine levels are associated with risk of gastric cancer and modulated by genotypes of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase(MTHFR). Experimental Design: We genotyped G1958A and T401C in MTHFD and C677T in MTHFR and detected total plasma homocysteine(tHcy) levels in a case-control study of 589 gastric cancer cases and 635 cancer-free controls in a high-risk Chinese population. Results:The variant genotypes of MTHFD 1958AA and 401CC were associated with a significantly increased risk of gastric canceradjusted odds ratio(OR), 2.05; 95% confidence interval(95% CI),1.34-3.13 for 1958AA; adjusted OR,1.43; 95% CI,1.14-1.80 for 401CC compared with 1958GG/GA and 401TT/TC genotypes, respectively. Both of the effects were more evident in the subjects carrying MTHFR 677CT/TT genotypes. The average tHcy level was significantly higher in gastric cancer cases than in controls(P < 0.01), and the upper quartile of tHcy (> 13.6 mu mol/L) was associated with an 82% significantly increased risk of gastric cancer, compared with the lowest quartile of tHcy(<= 8.0 pmol/L;adjusted OR,1.82; 95% CI,1.20-2.75). Conclusions:The strong associations between MTHFD variants and the plasma tHcy levels and gastric cancer risk suggest, for the first time, a possible gene-environment interaction between genetic variants of folate-metabolizing genes and high tHcy levels in gastric carcinogenesis. | Wang, L. In Fog Computing, the resources need to be shared or cached in the widely deployed Fog clusters. In this paper, we propose a Steiner tree based caching scheme, in which the Fog servers, when caching resources, first produce a Steiner tree to minimize the total path weight(or cost) such that the cost of resource caching using this tree could be minimized. Then we give a running illustration to show how the Fog Computing works and we compare the traditional shortest path scheme with the proposed one. | 6 | Early therapeutic interventions of traditional Chinese medicine in COVID-19 patients:A retrospective cohort study显示文摘Objective:To observe the early interventions of traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)on the conversion time of nucleic acid in patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),and find possible underlying mechanisms of action.Methods:A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 300 confirmed COVID-19 patients who were treated with TCM,at a designated hospital in China.The patients were categorized into three groups:TCM1,TCM2 and TCM3,who respectively received TCM interventions within 7,8–14,and greater than15 days of hospitalization.Different indicators such as the conversion time of pharyngeal swab nucleic acid,the conversion time of fecal nucleic acid,length of hospital stay,and inflammatory markers(leukocyte count,and lymphocyte count and percentage)were analyzed to observe the impact of early TCM interventions on these groups.Results:The median conversion times of pharyngeal swab nucleic acid in the three groups were 5.5,7 and16 d(P<0.001),with TCM1 and TCM2 being statistically different from TCM3(P<0.01).TCM1(P<0.05)and TCM3(P<0.01)were statistically different from TCM2.The median conversion times of fecal nucleic acid in the three groups were 7,9 and 17 d(P<0.001).Conversion times of fecal nucleic acid in TCM1 were statistically different from TCM3 and TCM2(P<0.01).The median lengths of hospital stay in the three groups were 13,16 and 21 d(P<0.001).TCM1 and TCM2 were statistically different from TCM3(P<0.01);TCM1 and TCM3 were statistically different from TCM2(P<0.01).Both leucocyte and lymphocyte counts increased gradually with an increase in the length of hospital stay in TCM1 group patients,with a statistically significant difference observed at each time point in the group(P<0.001).Statistically significant differences in lymphocyte count and percentage in TCM2(P<0.001),and in leucocyte count(P=0.043)and lymphocyte count(P=0.038)in TCM3 were observed.The comparison among the three groups showed a statistically significant difference in lymphocyte percentage on the third day of admission(P=0.044).Conclusion:In this study,it was observed that in COVID-19 patients treated with a combination of Chinese and Western medicines,TCM intervention earlier in the hospital stay correlated with faster conversion time of pharyngeal swab and fecal nucleic acid,as well as shorter length of hospital stay,thus helping promote faster recovery of the patient.The underlying mechanism of action may be related to improving inflammation in patients with COVID-19. | Miao-yan Shi Shi-qi Sun Wei Zhang Xing Zhang Gui-hua Xu Xuan Chen Zi-jian Su Xiu-ming Song Lu-jiong Liu Yi-bao Zhang Yi-le Zhang Meng Sun Qi Chen Yan Xue Hua Lü Wei-an Yuan Xiao-rong Chen Yun-fei Lu | 2021 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2021,19,3: | 4 |
| 7 | Neonatal vitamin A injection promotes cattle muscle growth and increases oxidative muscle fibers显示文摘Background: Vitamin A and its metabolite,retinoic acid(RA),are important regulators of cell differentiation and organ morphogenesis.Its impact on beef cattle muscle growth remains undefined.Method: Angus steer calves were administrated with 0(control) or 150,000 IU vitamin A(retinyl palmitate in glycerol,i.m.) per calf at birth and 1 month of age.At 2 months of age,a biopsy of the Biceps femoris muscle was obtained to analyze the immediate effects of vitamin A injection on myogenic capacity of muscle cells.The resulting steers were harvested at 14 months of age.Results: Vitamin A administration increased cattle growth at 2 months.At 2 months of age,Vitamin A increased PAX7 positive satellite cells and the expression of myogenic marker genes including PAX7,MYF5,MYOD and MYOG.Muscle derived mononuclear cells were further isolated and induced myogenesis in vitro.More myotubes and a higher degree of myogenesis was observed in vitamin A groups.Consistently,vitamin A increased Latissimus dorsi(LD) muscle fiber size at harvest.In addition,vitamin A increased the ratio of oxidative type I and type IIA fibers and reduced the glycolic type IIX fibers.Furthermore,we found that RA,a key bioactive metabolite of vitamin A,activated PPARGC1 A promoter,which explains the upregulated expression of PPARGC1 A in skeletal muscle.Conclusion: Vitamin A administration to neonatal calves enhanced postnatal muscle growth by promoting myogenesis and increasing satellite cell density,accompanied with a shift to oxidative muscle fibers. | Bo Wang Wei Nie Xing Fu Jeanene M de Avila Yannan Ma Mei-Jun Zhu Martin Maquivar Steven M Parish Jan R Busboom Mark L Nelson Min Du | 2019 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2019,10,1: | 3 |
| 8 | Effectiveness and safety of Suhuang Zhike capsule(苏黄止咳胶囊)as adjuvant treatment for acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease:a systematic review and Meta-analysis显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Suhuang Zhike capsule(苏黄止咳胶囊) in the adjuvant treatment of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD).METHODS:The database including PubMed,Embase,Cochrane Library,China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database,China Science and Technology Journal Database,Chinese Biomedical Literature Database and Wanfang Data was searched.The retrieval time was from database establishment to May 2021.Randomized controlled trial(RCT) of Suhuang zhike capsule adjuvant treatment for AECOPD was included.The quality of the studies was independently evaluated and cross-checked by two reviewers,and Meta-analysis was performed by using RevMan5.3 software.RESULTS:Thirteen RCT results were included with a total sample number of 1195 cases,including 597 in the experimental group and 598 in the control group.The results showed that Suhuang zhike capsule adjuvant treatment of AECOPD could improve the total clinical effect rate compared with conventional treatment.Suhuang zhike capsule adjuvant treatment could improve forced vital capacity(FVC),forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV1),FEV1/FVC,peak expiratory flow(PEF) and other pulmonary function indexes;decrease Creactive protein(CRP),white blood cells,neutrophils and other infectious indicators;besides,the 1-year recurrence rate of the disease was decreased(all P < 0.05).CONCLUSIONS:Suhuang Zhike capsule can improve the lung function and clinical efficacy of AECOPD,thus increasing the exercise endurance,and reducing the infection and recurrence rate in AECOPD patients. | DAI Linfeng ZHUANG Yan LüHai CHEN Mingqi WANG Xing | 2023 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2023,43,2: | 3 |

| 13 | Study on Kinetics for Desulfurization of Model Diesel显示文摘In this study,by means of the experiments for desulfurization of model diesel through oxidative extraction,the changes associated with the rate of desulfurization of diesel and the mechanism for oxidation of sulfides in diesel were explored. Through studying the mechanism for oxidation of sulfides and the principle of solvent extraction,the kinetic equation of desulfurization via oxidative extraction were determined. By means of the evaluation of model parameters and curve fitting,the reaction order between organic sulfide and sulfone,the intrinsic oxidation rate constant of organic sulfide and sulfone,and the equilibrium constant between sulfone in model diesel and extractive solvent were determined. The experimental values of the desulfurization rate and the theoretical values of the corresponding model equation had closely demonstrated that the desulfurization reaction rate had high accuracy.
