4Solid particle erosion studies of thermally deposited alumina-titania coatings on an aluminum alloy显示文摘Thermal barrier coatings are widely used as surface modifications to enhance the surface properties of the material and protect from surface degradations such as erosion and corrosion.Ceramic-based coatings are highly recommended to increase wear resistance in the indus-trial sector.In this paper,an alumina-titania ceramic powder was deposited on an aluminum alloy using an atmospheric plasma spray tech-nique.Experimental investigations were performed to study the behavior and erosion rate of the material.Solid particle erosion studies were performed by varying the particle velocity and particle flow rate.The angle impingement and stand-off distance were constant for comparison.The base metal has a clinging effect and the mass change was negative at a maximum particle flow rate of 4 g·min^(−1).Under the same process conditions,the coated sample had a reduced lifetime and reached a maximum erosion rate of 0.052(Δg/g).The solid particle erosion studies confirmed that the base metal aluminum alloy had severe surface damage with erodent reinforcement when compared to the coated samples.The influence of the particle velocity,particle flow rate,and input process parameters were also identified.Chellaganesh Duraipandi Adam Khan M Winowlin Jappes J.T. 7EFFECTS OF CHEMICAL MODIFICATIONS AND MMT NANOCLAY ADDITION ON TRANSPORT PHENOMENA OF NATURALLY WOVEN COCONUT SHEATH/POLYESTER NANOCOMPOSITES显示文摘Studies on the behavior of molecular transport properties such as thermal conductivity, gas permeability, volume and surface resistivity have been carried out for the naturally woven coconut sheath (CS) fiber reinforced composites with the addition of nanoclay and chemical treatment of fiber. The compression molding technique was used to fabricate the coconut sheath/clay reinforced hybrid composites. The morphological studies such as X-ray diffractogram (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) have been carried out for polyester nanocomposites and coconut sheath fiber. The decreased gas permeability, thermal conductivity and volume and surface resistivity have been observed with increasing the weight percentage of nanoclay in polyester matrix. In chemical modifications, the alkali and silane treated coconut sheath reinforced composites have shown great influence on the transport properties due to the increasing hydrophilic nature by the topographical changes at the fiber surface. Dielectric strength has also been reported in this paper for all types of composites. 11Characterization of Novel Lignocellulosic Spinifex littoreus Fibers and Their Composites显示文摘This innovative work presents mechanical,physical and chemical characterization and analysis of newly extracted fiber from naturally resourced plant stem,named Spinifex littoreus fibers(SLF).This is a novel natural,biodegradable and sustainable reinforcement for an improved composite.Initially,the chemical constituents of SLF,such as cellulose,lignin,moisture and wax content were studied.The raw SLF surfaces were modified by chemical treatment with sodium hydroxide(NaOH),calcium hydroxide(Ca(OH)2)and silane.A polyester matrix was reinforced with all the treated SLF,before the mechanical properties(tensile strengths)of the composites were determined.Among all the surface chemically treated SLF/polyester composite samples,the Ca(OH)2 treated sample exhibited the highest tensile strength.Further microscopic examination was carried out to validate this result.Also,this analysis established the mechanism of failure of the tensile fractured composite samples,using Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM),among other techniques.Milan Soosai Christopher Thankian Winowlin Jappes Jebas Thangiah Rajini Nagarajan Mayandi Kalimuthu Sikiru Oluwarotimi Ismail Faruq Mohammad 2020Journal of Bionic Engineering2020,17,2:0
12Biological Waste Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) Plant Powder Particle with Eggshell Filler-reinforced Epoxy Polymer Composite Material Property Analysis显示文摘In this study, water hyacinth powder-reinforced polymer composites with eggshell filler material are investigated for their mechanical, absorption, morphological, thermal, and characterization properties. Hyacinth powder particles have not been extensively studied in polymer composites. This study investigates the use of eggshell powder for composites made from hyacinth powder. The use of hyacinth powder improves the mechanical properties of composites. With the help of the powder particles, composite samples are produced by compression moulding using an epoxy polymer matrix. 5% eggshell filler varied from 18.25 to 33.64 MPa for tensile strength, 40.28–49.66 MPa for flexural strength, and 2.45–4.75 J for impact strength. X-ray diffraction and Fourier transforms can be used to determine chemical groups, function groups, and crystallinity indexes. Powder particles can be observed by scanning electron microscopes in terms of their bonding behavior, eggshell powder combinations, and primary- and secondary-phase material absorption.
