| 1 | Conservation needs of amphibians in China: A review显示文摘The conservation status of all the amphibians in China is analyzed,and the country is shown to be a global priority for conservation in comparison to many other countries of the world.Three Chinese regions are particularly rich in amphibian diversity:Hengduan,Nanling,and Wuyi mountains.Sala-manders are more threatened than frogs and toads.Several smaller families show a high propensity to become seriously threatened:Bombinatoridae,Cryptobranchidae,Hynobiidae and Salamandridae.Like other parts of the world,stream-breeding,high-elevation forest amphibians have a much higher likeli-hood of being seriously threatened.Habitat loss,pollution,and over-harvesting are the most serious threats to Chinese amphibians.Over-harvesting is a less pervasive threat than habitat loss,but it is more likely to drive a species into rapid decline.Five conservation challenges are mentioned with recommendations for the highest priority research and conservation actions. | Michael Wai Neng LAU Simon N STUART Janice S CHANSON Neil A COX Debra L FISCHMAN | 2007 | Science China(Life Sciences)2007，50，2： | 12 |

| 3 | Characteristics of Rat Lumbar Vertebral Body Bone Mineral Density and Differential Segmental Responses to Sex Hormone Deficiency:a Clinical Multidetector Computed Tomography Study显示文摘Objective To investigate sex hormone deficiency related osteoporosis and efficacy of different therapies. Methods Orchiectomized and ovariectomized rat models are used to investigate sex hormone deficiency related osteoporosis and efficacy of different therapies. A rat vertebral body can be longitudinally divided into central portion, which contain more trabecular bone, and para-endplate portions which contain more compact bone. In matured male and female Wistar and Sprague-Dawley rat lumbar spines, we investigated baseline bone mineral density (BMD) characteristics and the differential segmental responses in bone loss within the lumbar vertebral body post gonadal surgery with clinical multidetector computed tomography. Results Para-endplate sections had a higher BMD than central sections. The cephalad para-endplate sections had a higher BMD than the caudad para-endplate sections. Eight weeks after gonadal removal, there was more bone loss in central sections than para-endplate sections. The relative difference of bone loss between para-endplate and central sections was more apparent in male rats than in female rats. There was more bone loss in caudad sections than cephalad sections; this lead to a further increase of BMD difference between caudad para-endplate sections and cephalad para-endplate sections post gonadal surgery. Conclusion The approach described in this study provided a consistent way to study BMD change within predominantly compact bone portion and trabecular bone portion of the vertebral body. | DENG Min WANG Yi Xiang James F. | 4 | Atrophy of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex is associated with poor performance in verbal fluency in elderly poststroke women显示文摘This study aimed to investigate the association between atrophy in the prefrontal cortex with executive function and verbal fluency in elderly male and female patients poststroke.Thirty elderly female patients with non-aphasic ischemic stroke aged ≥ 60 years and 30 age-matched non-aphasic male patients with ischemic stroke were recruited.Automatic magnetic resonance imaging segmentation was used to assess the volume of the whole prefrontal cortex,along with its subdivisions:anterior cingulate cortex,orbitofrontal cortex and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.The Semantic Verbal Fluency Test was administered at 3 and 15 months poststroke.At 3 months poststroke,left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex volume was significantly correlated with Verbal Fluency Test score in female patients only(partial coefficient = 0.453,P = 0.045),after controlling for age,education,diabetes,neurological deficit,white matter lesions volume,as well as the location and volume of infarcts.At 15 months poststroke,there remained a significant association between the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex volume and Verbal Fluency Test(partial coefficient = 0.661,P = 0.001) and between the left prefrontal cortex volume and Verbal Fluency Test(partial coefficient = 0.573,P = 0.004) in female patients after the same adjustments.These findings indicate that atrophy of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex contributes to the impairment of verbal fluency in elderly female patients with stroke.Sex differences may be present in the neuropsychological mechanisms of verbal fluency impairment in patients with stroke. | Yang-Kun Chen Wei-Min Xiao Defeng Wang Lin Shi Winnie CW Chu Vincent CT Mok Ka Sing Wong Gabor S Ungvari Wai Kwong Tang | 2013 | Neural Regeneration Research2013，8，4： | 2 |
