| 2 | Information theory of metasurfaces显示文摘We propose a theory to characterize the information and information processing abilities of metasurfaces,and demonstrate the relation between the information of the metasurface and its radiation pattern in the far-field region.By incorporating a general aperturemodel with uncertainty relation in L2-space,we propose a theory to predict the upper bound of information contained in the radiation pattern of a metasurface,and reveal the theoretical upper limit of orthogonal radiation states.Theproposed theory also provides guidance for inverse design of the metasurface with respect to given functionalities.Through investigation of the information of disordered-phase modulated metasurfaces,we find the information invariance(1?γ,whereγis Euler’s constant)of chaotic radiation patterns.That is to say,the information of the disordered-phase modulated radiation patterns is always equal to 1?γ,regardless of variations in size,the number of elements and the phase pattern of metasurface.This value might be the lower bound of radiation-pattern information of the metasurface,which can provide a theoretical limit for information modulation applications,including computational imaging,stealth technologies and wireless communications. | Haotian Wu Guo Dong Bai Shuo Liu Lianlin Li Xiang Wan Qiang Cheng Tie Jun Cui | 2020 | National Science Review2020,7,3: | 5 |
| 3 | A versatile photodetector assisted by photovoltaic and bolometric effects显示文摘The advent of low-dimensional materials with peculiar structure and superb band properties provides a new canonical form for the development of photodetectors.However,the limited exploitation of basic properties makes it difficult for devices to stand out.Here,we demonstrate a hybrid heterostructure with ultrathin vanadium dioxide film and molybdenum ditelluride nanoflake.Vanadium dioxide is a classical semiconductor with a narrow bandgap,a high temperature coefficient of resistance,and phase transformation.Molybdenum ditelluride,a typical two-dimensional material,is often used to construct optoelectronic devices.The heterostructure can realize three different functional modes:(i)the p-n junction exhibits ultrasensitive detection(450 nm-2μm)with a dark current down to 0.2 pA and a response time of 17μs,(ii)the Schottky junction works stably under extreme conditions such as a high temperature of 400 K,and(iii)the bolometer shows ultrabroad spectrum detection exceeding 10μm.The flexible switching between the three modes makes the heterostructure a potential candidate for next-generation photodetectors from visible to longwave infrared radiation(LWIR).This type of photodetector combines versatile detection modes,shedding light on the hybrid application of novel and traditional materials,and is a prototype of advanced optoelectronic devices. | Wei Jiang Tan Zheng Binmin Wu Hanxue Jiao Xudong Wang Yan Chen Xiaoyu Zhang Meng Peng Hailu Wang Tie Lin Hong Shen Jun Ge Weida Hu Xiaofeng Xu Xiangjian Meng Junhao Chu Jianlu Wang | 2020 | Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1: | 3 |

| 5 | Greenhouse gas emissions from a constructed wetland for municipal sewage treatment显示文摘The fluxes of greenhouse gases (methane and nitrous oxide) emission from a constructed wetland in the Eastern China as municipal sewage treatment were measured from June 1999 to August 2000 by the closed chamber method. The constructed wetland for municipal sewage treatment is a significant source of methane, up to 976 6×10 6 g CH 4/a, which was emitted from the constructed wetland with the area of 495000 m 2 and wastewater loading rate of 12000 m 3/d. Its daily mean methane flux reached 5 22 g CH 4/(m 2·d), 250 times as much as that in natural wetland in the same latitude region. 227 8 mg CH 4 was produced from the treatment of 1 liter wastewater, up to 700—1000 times as much as that in the secondary treatment. | 13 | Macroscopic model and statistical model to characterize electromagnetic information of a digital coding metasurface显示文摘A digital coding metasurface is a platform connecting the digital space and electromagnetic wave space,and has therefore gained much attention due to its intriguing value in reshaping wireless channels and realizing new communication architectures.Correspondingly,there is an urgent need for electromagnetic information theory that reveals the upper limit of communication capacity and supports the accurate design of metasurface-based communication systems.To this end,we propose a macroscopic model and a statistical model of the digital coding metasurface.The macroscopic model uniformly accommodates both digital and electromagnetic aspects of the meta-atoms and predicts all possible scattered fields of the digital coding metasurface based on a small number of simulations or measurements.Full-wave simulations and experimental results show that the macroscopic model is feasible and accurate.A statistical model is further proposed to correlate the mutual coupling between meta-atoms with covariance and to calculate the entropy of the equivalent currents of digital coding metasurface.These two models can help reconfigurable intelligent surfaces achieve more accurate beamforming and channel estimation,and thus improve signal power and coverage.Moreover,the models wi l l encourage the creation of a precoding codebook in metasurface-based direct digital modulation systems,with the aim of approaching the upper limit of channel capacity.With these two models,the concepts of current space and current entropy,as well as the analysis of information loss from the coding space to wave space,is established for the first time,helping to bridge the gap between the digital world and the physical world,and advancing developments of electromagnetic information theory and new-architecture wireless systems. | Rui Wen Shao Jun Wei Wu Zheng Xing Wang Hui Xu Han Qing Yang Qiang Cheng Tie Jun Cui | 2024 | National Science Review2024,11,3: | 0 |
| 14 | A Planar 4-Bit Reconfigurable Antenna Array Based on the Design Philosophy of Information Metasurfaces显示文摘Inspired by the design philosophy of information metasurfaces based on the digital coding concept,a planar 4-bit reconfigurable antenna array with low profile of 0.15λ0(whereλ0is the free-space wavelength)is presented.The array is based on a digital coding radiation element consisting of a 1-bit magnetoelectric(ME)dipole and a miniaturized reflection-type phase shifter(RTPS).The proposed 1-bit ME dipole can provide two digital states of'0'and'1'(with 0°and 180°phase responses)over a wide frequency band by individually exciting its two symmetrical feeding ports.The designed RTPS is able to realize a relative phase shift of 173°.By digitally quantizing its phase in the range of 157.5°,additional eight digital states at intervals of 22.5°are obtained.To achieve low sidelobe levels,a 1:16 power divider based on the Taylor line source method is employed to feed the array,A prototype of the proposed 4-bit antenna array has been fabricated and tested,and the experimental results are in good agreement with the simulations.Scanning beams within a±45°range were measured with a maximum realized gain of 13.4 dBi at12 GHz.The sidelobe and cross-polarization levels are below-14.3 and-23.0 dB,respectively.Furthermore,the beam pointing error is within 0.8°,and the 3 dB gain bandwidth of the broadside beam is 25%.Due to its outstanding performance,the array holds potential for significant applications in radar and wireless communication systems. | Zheng Xing Wang Hanqing Yang Ruiwen Shao Jun Wei Wu Guobiao Liu Feng Zhai Qiang Cheng Tie Jun Cui | 2022 | Engineering2022,,10: | 0 |

| 17 | Effects of Benzo(a)pyrene on the Contractile Function of the Thoracic Aorta of Sprague-dawley Rats显示文摘Objective To evaluate the possible vascular effects of an environment carcinogen benzo(a)pyrene (BaP). Methods The cytotoxicit of BaP and rat liver S9 (0.25 mg/mL)-activated BaP were examined by MTT assay. Thoracic aortic rings were dissected from Sprague-Dawley rats. Contraction of aortic rings was induced by 60 mmol/L KCl or 10 -6 mol/L phenylephrine (PE) in an ex-vivo perfusion system after BaP (100 μmol/L) incubation for 6 h. [Ca 2+ ] i was measured using Fluo-4/AM. For in-vivo treatment, rats were injected with BaP for 4 weeks (10 mg/kg, weekly, i.p.). Results BaP (1-500 μm) did not significantly affect cell viability; S9-activated BaP stimulated cell proliferation. BaP did not affect the contractile function of endothelium-intact or -denuded aortic rings. BaP did not affect ATP-induced ([Ca 2+ ] i ) increases in human umbilical vein endothelial cells. In BaP-treated rats, heart rate and the number of circulating inflammatory cells were not affected. Body weight decreased while blood pressure increased significantly. The maximum aortic contractile responses to PE and KCl and the maximum aortic relaxation response to acetylcholine were significantly decreased by 25.0%, 34.2%, and 10.4%, respectively.
