| 1 | Polar organic tracers in PM_(2.5) aerosols from an inland background area in Southwest China: Correlations between secondary organic aerosol tracers and source apportionment显示文摘PM_(2.5) aerosol samples were collected over 12 hr and 24 hr intervals in an inland background area, Gongga Mountain National Nature Reserve(hereafter shortened to Gongga), during the summer of 2011. Polar organic tracers, inorganic ions and meteorological data were measured. The purpose of this work was to investigate the variation patterns, formation and sources of the secondary organic aerosol tracers in the studied atmosphere. The average concentrations of isoprene oxidation products, α-pinene oxidation products, β-caryophyllinic acid, sugars, sugar alcohols and anhydrosugars were 88.6 ± 106.1, 3.6 ± 5.7,0.13 ± 0.30, 13.6 ± 13.1, 31.9 ± 31.4 and 14.8 ± 10.7 ng/m3 respectively in all aerosol samples.The aged α-pinene second organic aerosol(SOA) tracers(i.e., 3-hydroxyglutraric acid(3 HGA), 3-hydroxy-2,2-dimethylglutaric acid(HDMGA), 3-acetylpentandioic acid(APDA) and 3-methyl-1,2,3-butanetricarboxylic acid(MBTCA)) correlated significantly with each other in the 24 hr PM2.5 aerosol samples, indicating that OH· is the major factor controlling the formation of these α-pinene SOA tracers. Using the positive matrix factorization(PMF) model and the tracer-based source apportionment method, we calculated that isoprene oxidation products, α-pinene oxidation products, sesquiterpene oxidation products, biomass burning, fungi spores and anthropogenic SOA accounted for 21.9% ± 5.5%, 8.4% ± 2.1%, 3.0% ± 0.7%, 5.2% ± 5.3%, 5.0% ± 6.2% and 31.4% ± 7.8% of organic carbon respectively during the sampling period. | Li Li Wei Lai Jinguo Pu Hengqin Mo Dongjue Dai Guilin Wu Shihuai Deng | 2018 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2018,30,7: | 6 |
| 2 | Competition between Populus euphratica and Tamarix ramosissima seedlings under simulated high groundwater availability显示文摘Desert riparian plants experience high variability in water availability due to hydrological fluctuations. How riparian plants can survive with low water availability has been well studied, however, little is known about the effects of high water availability on plant community structuring. We conducted a mesocosm experiment to test whether seedling competition under simulated high groundwater availability can explain the shift of co-dominance of Populus euphratica and Tamarix ramosissima in early communities to P. euphratica dominance in mature ones along the Tarim River in northwestern China. Seedlings of these two plant species were grown in monoculture and mixture pools with high groundwater availability. Results indicated that the above-ground biomass and relative yield of T. ramosissima were higher than those of P. euphratica. The competitive advantages of T. ramosissima included its rapid response in growth to groundwater enrichment and its water spender strategy, as evidenced by the increased leaf biomass proportion and the inert stomatal response to leaf-to-air vapor pressure deficit(VPD). In comparison, P. euphratica showed a conservative strategy in water use, with a sensitive response to leaf-to-air VPD. Result of the short-term competition was inconsistent with the long-term competition in fields, suggesting that competition exclusion is not the mechanism structuring the desert riparian plant communities. | 6 | Microstructure and strength of a tantalum-tungsten alloy after cold rolling from small to large strains显示文摘Microstructural evolution of a refractory tantalum-tungsten alloy(Ta-4%W)after cold rolling from small to large von-Mises strains(0.12-2.7)was quantitatively studied using transmission electron microscopy.Grain subdivision was observed to take place at two levels.Geometrically necessary boundaries nearly paralleling to slip planes enclosed volumes further divided by diffuse cells and by remnants of Taylor lattices.With increasing strain,the diffuse cells evolved into clear incidental dislocation boundaries enclosing cells,while the Taylor lattices disappeared.Grain subdivision was thus intermediate between those observed in cell forming and in non-cell forming alloys.Meanwhile,the average misorientation angle across all boundaries increased while the average boundary spacing decreased.Distributions of the microstructural parameters at each strain level were found to exhibit universal scaling laws.The microstructural evolution was found closely linking to the observed high strength and strain hardening of this alloy.Based on measured microstructural parameters,the flow stress was calculated utilizing linearly addition of the strengthening by solutes,incidental dislocation boundaries(Taylor strengthening)and geometrically necessary boundaries(Hall-Petch equation).The relative contribution of each strength mechanism evolved with increasing strain and with microstructural evolution:solutes and friction stress dominated at small strains while boundaries dominated at larger strains.Calculated strengths were in close agreement with experimental tension tests and demonstrated an unexpectedly high and continuous parabolic hardening without transition across this large strain range. | Guoqiang Ma Darcy A.Hughes Andrew W.Godfrey Qiang Chen Niels Hansena Guilin Wu | 2021 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,24: | 3 |

| 10 | Effects of slope position and land use on the stability of aggregateassociated organic carbon in calcareous soils显示文摘Topography and land use affect soil organic carbon(SOC) storage, stabilization, and turnover, through several biogeochemical processes. This study investigated the aggregate composition and SOC content of bulk soils and aggregates at different slope positions under different land uses in a typical karst catchment of southwestern China. Our results show that the proportion of macro-aggregates and the SOC content of bulk soils and aggregates at different slope positions decreased from the upper to the lower slope. The SOC content generally increased with an increase in the mean weight diameter and proportion of macro-aggregates under different land uses. Our results indicate that macro-aggregates in forest and grassland soils make a greater contribution to both aggregate composition and SOC content than that in arable land soils. | 11 | WiSH:WiFi-Based Real-Time Human Detection显示文摘Sensorless sensing using wireless signals has been rapidly conceptualized and developed recently. Among numerous applications of WiFi-based sensing, human presence detection acts as a primary and fundamental function to boost applications in practice. Many complicated approaches have been proposed to achieve high detection accuracy, but they frequently omit various practical constraints such as real-time capability, computation efficiency, sampling rates, deployment efforts, etc. A practical detection system that works in realworld applicati ons is lacki ng. In this paper, we design and implement WiSH, a real-time system for con tactless human detection that is applicable for whole-day usage. WiSH employs lightweight yet effective methods and thus enables detection under practical conditions even on resource-limited devices with low signal sampling rates. We deploy WiSH on commodity desktops and customized tiny no des in different everyday scenarios. The experimental results dem on strate the superior performance of WiSH, which has a detection accuracy of >98% using a sampling rate of 20 Hz with an average detection delay of merely 1.5 s. | 13 | Virus-inspired surface-nanoengineered antimicrobial liposome:A potential system to simultaneously achieve high activity and selectivity显示文摘Enveloped viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 frequently have a highly infectious nature and are considered effective natural delivery systems exhibiting high efficiency and specificity.Since simultaneously enhancing the activity and selectivity of lipopeptides is a seemingly unsolvable problem for conventional chemistry and pharmaceutical approaches,we present a biomimetic strategy to construct lipopeptide-based mimics of viral architectures and infections to enhance their antimicrobial efficacy while avoiding side effects.Herein,a surface-nanoengineered antimicrobial liposome(SNAL)is developed with the morphological features of enveloped viruses,including a moderate size range,lipid-based membrane structure,and highly lipopeptide-enriched bilayer surface.The SNAL possesses virus-like infection to bacterial cells,which can mediate high-efficiency and high-selectivity bacteria binding,rapidly attack and invade bacteria via plasma membrane fusion pathway,and induce a local“burst”release of lipopeptide to produce irreversible damage of cell membrane.Remarkably,viral mimics are effective against multiple pathogens with low minimum inhibitory concentrations(1.6-6.3μg mL1),high bactericidal efficiency of>99%within 2 h,>10-fold enhanced selectivity over free lipopeptide,99.8%reduction in skin MRSA load after a single treatment,and negligible toxicity.This bioinspired design has significant potential to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of lipopeptides and may create new opportunities for designing next-generation antimicrobials. | Yin Shi Xiaoqian Feng Liming Lin Jing Wang Jiaying Chi Biyuan Wu Guilin Zhou Feiyuan Yu Qian Xu Daojun Liu Guilan Quan Chao Lu Xin Pan Jianfeng Cai Chuanbin Wu | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,10: | 1 |

| 19 | Effects of topography and vegetation on distribution of rare earth elements in calcareous soils显示文摘This study investigated the impact of topography and vegetation on distribution of rare earth elements(REEs)in calcareous soils using methods of single extraction and mass balance calculation. The purposes of the study were to set a basis for further research on the biogeochemical REE cycle and to provide references for soil–water conservation and REE-containing fertilizer amendments. The results show a generally flat Post-Archean Average Australian Shale—normalized REE pattern for the studied calcareous soils. REE enrichment varied widely. The proportion of acidsoluble phases of heavy REEs was higher than that of light REEs. From top to bottom of the studied hills, dominant REE sources transitioned from limestone in-situ weathering to input from REE-containing phases(e.g., clay minerals,amorphous iron, REE-containing fluids).
