Shale Gas Formation and Occurrence in China: An Overview of the Current Status and Future Potential显示文摘Shale gas is one of the most promising unconventional resources both in China and abroad. It is known as a form of self-contained source-reservoir system with large and continuous dimensions. Through years of considerable exploration efforts, China has identified three large shale gas fields in the Fuling, Changning and Weiyuan areas of the Sichuan Basin, and has announced more than 540 billion m^3 of proven shale gas reserves in marine shale systems. The geological theories for shale gas development have progressed rapidly in China as well. For example, the new depositional patterns have been introduced for deciphering the paleogeography and sedimentary systems of the Wufeng shale and Longmaxi shale in the Sichuan Basin. The shale gas storage mechanism has been widely accepted as differing from conventional natural gas in that it is adsorbed on organic matter or a mineral surface or occurs as free gas trapped in pores and fractures of the shale. Significant advances in the techniques of microstructural characterization have provided new insights on how gas molecules are stored in micro- and nano-scale porous shales. Furthermore, newly-developed concepts and practices in the petroleum industry, such as hydraulic fracturing, microseismic monitoring and multiwell horizontal drilling, have made the production of this unevenly distributed but promising unconventional natural gas a reality. China has 10–36 trillion m^3 of promising shale gas among the world's whole predicted technically recoverable reserves of 206.6 trillion m^3. China is on the way to achieving its goal of an annual yield of 30–50 billion m^3 by launching more trials within shale gas projects. | ZOU Caineng YANG Zhi PAN Songqi CHEN Yanyan LIN Senhu HUANG Jinliang WU Songtao DONG Dazhong WANG Shufang LIANG Feng SUN Shasha HUANG Yong WENG Dingwei | 2016 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2016,90,4: | 9
Progress and development directions of shale oil reservoir stimulation technology of China National Petroleum Corporation显示文摘By reviewing the development history of shale oil reservoir stimulation technology of PetroChina Company Limited(PetroChina),we have systematically summarized the main progress of shale oil reservoir stimulation technology of CNPC in five aspects:reservoir stimulation mechanism,fracture-controlled fracturing,geological-engineering integrated reservoir stimulation design platform,low-cost materials, and large well-pad three-dimensional development mode.It is made clear that the major stimulation technology for shale oil reservoir is the high density multi-cluster and fracture-controlled staged fracturing aiming to increase fracture-controlled reserves, lower operation costs and increase economic benefits.Based on comprehensive analysis of the challenges shale oil reservoir stimulation technology faces in three-dimensional development, stimulation parameter optimization for fracture-controlled fracturing, refracturing and low-cost stimulation technology,we proposed five development directions of the stimulation technology:(1)Strengthen the research on integration of geology and engineering to make full use of reservoir stimulation.(2)Deepen the study on fracture-controlled fracturing to improve reserves development degree.(3)Promote horizontal well three-dimensional development of shale oil to realize the production of multiple layers vertically.(4)Research refracturing technology of shale oil reservoir through horizontal well to efficiently tap the remaining reserves between fractures.(5)Develop low-cost stimulation supporting technology to help reduce the cost and increase economic benefit of oilfield development. | LEI Qun WENG Dingwei XIONG Shengchun LIU Hanbin GUAN Baoshan DENG Qjang YAN Xuemei LIANG Hongbo MA Zeyuan | 2021 | Petroleum Exploration and Development2021,48,5: | 1
Techniques for improving fracture-controlled stimulated reservoir volume in ultra-deep fractured tight reservoirs: A case study of Kuqa piedmont clastic reservoirs, Tarim Basin, NW China显示文摘Based on analysis of the reasons for low efficiency and low production after fracturing of some wells in the ultra-deep fractured tight reservoirs of the Kuqa piedmont zone, Tarim Basin and the matching relationship between the in-situ stress field and natural fractures, technological methods for creating complex fracture networks are proposed. Through theoretical study and large-scale physical simulation experiments, the mechanical conditions for forming complex fracture network in the Kuqa piedmont ultra-deep reservoirs are determined. The effectiveness of temporary plugging and diversion, and multi-stage fracturing to activate natural fractures and consequently realize multi-stage diversion is verified. The coupling effect of hydraulic fractures and natural fractures activating each other and resulting in 'fracture swarms' is observed. These insights provide theoretical support for improving fracture-controlled stimulated reservoir volume(FSRV) in ultra-deep tight reservoirs. In addition, following the concept of volume fracturing technology and based on the results of fracture conductivity experiments of different processes, fracturing technologies such as multi-stage fracture-network acid fracturing, 'multi-stage temporary plugging + secondary fracturing', fracturing of multiple small layers by vertically softness-and-hardness-oriented subdivision, and weighted-fluid refracturing are proposed to increase the FSRV. New environment-friendly weighted-fluid with low cost and new fracturing fluid system with low viscosity and high proppant-carrying capacity are also developed. These techniques have achieved remarkable results in field application. | LEI Qun YANG Zhanwei WENG Dingwei LIU Hongtao GUAN Baoshan CAI Bo FU Haifeng LIU Zhaolong DUAN Yaoyao LIANG Tiancheng MA Zeyuan | 2022 | Petroleum Exploration and Development2022,49,5: | 1
Achievements and future work of oil and gas production engineering of CNPC显示文摘This paper summarizes the latest achievements and technological progress in oil and gas production engineering of China National Petroleum Corporation(CNPC) and discusses the main four challenges faced: developing low quality resource at low oil price; keeping stable production of mature oilfields when well oil production drops year by year; low systematic efficiency, high cost, prominent environmental protection issue and short of technological strategy for high water cut ratio and high oil recovery ratio oilfields; and lacking of high level horizontal well drilling and completion technology to develop unconventional and deep reservoirs. Three technological development directions to address these challenges are put forward: developing fracture controlling stimulation and well factory to produce low quality resource economically, developing re-fracturing technology for old wells in mature oilfields, promoting the fourth generation separate layer water injection technology to stabilize the production of mature oilfields; innovating new technologies of water flooding with nano-material, injecting and producing through one well. | LEI Qun WENG Dingwei LUO Jianhui ZHANG Jianjun LI Yiliang WANG Xin GUAN Baoshan | 2019 | Petroleum Exploration and Development2019,46,1: | 0
The “fracture-controlled reserves” based stimulation technology for unconventional oil and gas reservoirs显示文摘To solve the problems facing the economic development of unconventional oil and gas, a new concept and corresponding technology system of reservoir stimulation based on 'fracture-controlled reserves' are put forward. The 'fracture-controlled reserves' stimulation technology is to realize the three-dimensional producing and economic and efficient development of unconventional hydrocarbon resources by forming a fracture system that well matches 'sweet spots' and 'non-sweet spots'. The technical route of the stimulation technology is 'three optimizations and controls', that is, control the scope of sand body through optimizing well spacing, control the recoverable reserves through optimizing fracture system, and control the single well production reduction through optimizing energy complement method. The 'fracture-controlled reserves' stimulation emphasizes the maximization of the initial stimulation coefficient, the integration of energy replenishment, stimulation and production, and prolonging the re-fracturing cycle or avoiding re-fracturing. It aims at realizing the three-dimensional full producing and efficient development of reservoir in vertical and horizontal directions and achieving the large-scale, sustainable and high profitable development of unconventional oil and gas resources. The stimulation technology was used to perform 20 pilot projects in five typical tight-oil, shale gas blocks in China. The fracturing and producing effects of tight oil improved and the commercial development for shale gas was realized. | LEI Qun YANG Lifeng DUAN Yaoyao WENG Dingwei WANG Xin GUAN Baoshan WANG Zhen GUO Ying | 2018 | Petroleum Exploration and Development2018,45,4: | 0
Shale oil and gas exploitation in China:Technical comparison with US and development suggestions显示文摘The shale oil and gas exploitation in China is technically benchmarked with the United States in terms of development philosophy, reservoir stimulation treatment, fracturing parameters, fracturing equipment and materials,oil/gas production technology, and data/achievements sharing. It is recognized that the shale oil and gas exploitation in China is weak in seven aspects:understanding of flow regimes, producing of oil/gas reserves, monitoring of complex fractures, repeated stimulation technology,oil/gas production technology, casing deformation prevention technology, and wellbore maintenance technology.Combined with the geological and engineering factors of shale oil and gas in China, the development suggestions of four projects are proposed from the macro-and micro-perspective,namely,basic innovation project, exploitation technology project,oil/gas production stabilization project, and supporting efficiency-improvement project,so as to promote the rapid, efficient, stable, green and extensive development of shale oil and gas industry chain and innovation chain and ultimately achieve the goal of“oil volume stabilizing and gas volume increasing”. | LEI Qun WENG Dingwei GUAN Baoshan SHI Junfeng CAI Bo HE Chunming SUN Qiang HUANG Rui | 2023 | Petroleum Exploration and Development2023,50,4: | 0
Proppant transport law in multi-branched fractures induced by volume fracturing显示文摘To further clarify the proppant transport and placement law in multi-branched fractures induced by volume fracturing, proppant transport simulation experiments were performed with different fracture shapes, sand ratios, branched fracture opening time and injection sequence of proppants in varied particle sizes. The results show that the settled proppant height increases and the placement length decreases in main fractures as the fracturing fluid diverts gradually to the branched fractures at different positions. The flow rate in branched fractures is the main factor affecting their filling. The diverion to branched fractures leads to low flow rate and poor filling of far-wellbore branched fractures. The inclined fracture wall exerts a frictional force on the proppant to slow its settlement, thus enhancing the vertical proppant distribution in the fracture. The increase of sand ratio can improve the filling of near-wellbore main fracture and far-wellbore branched fracture and also increase the settled proppant height in main fracture. Due to the limitation of fracture height, when the sand ratio increases to a certain level, the increment of fracture filling decreases. When branched fracture is always open(or extends continuously), the supporting effect on the branched fractures is the best, but the proppant placement length within the main fractures is shorter. The fractures support effect is better when it is first closed and then opened(or extends in late stage) than when it is first opened and then closed(or extends in early stage). Injecting proppants with different particle sizes in a specific sequence can improve the placement lengths of main fracture and branched fracture. Injection of proppants in an ascending order of particle size improves the near-wellbore fracture filling, to a better extent than that in a descending order of particle size. | GUO Tiankui LYU Mingkun CHEN Ming XU Yun WENG Dingwei QU Zhanqing DAI Caili HOU Jian LIU Xiaoqiang | 2023 | Petroleum Exploration and Development2023,50,4: | 0
