| 1 | A novel orientation measurement using optical sensor for spherical motor显示文摘The measurement of spherical rotor orientation is crucial to the close-loop control of spherical motors. This paper presents a novel method for the measuring of three-degree-of-freedom (DOF) rotor orientation of spherical motors using optical sensors. The spatial orientation of spherical rotor is output in the form of ZXZ Euler angles. Firstly, the structure of the measuring system composed of optical sensors and the patterns on the rotor surface are presented, and the operational principle of recognizing intersection points between the optical ring detectors and the latitude/longitude on the rotor surface is illustrated. The analytical model of input-output characteristic is established for the measuring system of three-DOF rotor orientation. Afterwards, the effect of parameters of the optical ring detectors on the linearity, sensitivity, resolving power and measuring range of the measuring system is analyzed using the analytical model. Finally, the feasibility of the measurement is validated through experiments of prototype measuring system. | 4 | Soil properties and herbaceous characteristics in an age sequence of Haloxylon ammodendron plantations in an oasis-desert ecotone of northwestern China显示文摘Haloxylon ammodendron,a typical desert shrub with C4 pathway of photosynthesis,possessing a strong ability to adapt to an extreme drought environment,has a rapid growth rate in sandy lands and is widely used in sand-fixing shelter-forest systems in oasis-desert ecotones.To assess the effects of H.ammodendron plantation on the soil,we measured soil properties and herbaceous characteristics along a nearly 40-year chronosequence after H.ammodendron was planted in shifting sand dunes in an oasis-desert ecotone.Results showed that silt and clay fractions increased significantly in the topsoil.The accumulation rates of soil organic carbon(SOC),total nitrogen(TN) and total phosphorus(TP) were faster in the early stages(0–9 years) and slower in the late stages(9–39 years).The soil p H and electrical conductivity(EC) were higher than those in the non-vegetation dunes.Moreover,the soil properties in the topsoil(0–5 cm) showed larger variation scope than those in the deeper soil layers(5–20 cm).The significant relationships of the soil silt+clay content with the chemical properties mainly appeared in the topsoil.The wind erosion susceptibility of the soil,evaluated by erodible fraction(EF),decreased significantly with increasing H.ammodendron plantation age.Additionally,the annual pioneer herb,Agriophyllum squarrosum,was gradually substituted by the annual salt-tolerant herb,Bassia dasyphylla,with increasing plantation age.These results showed beneficial effects of H.ammodendron plantation on improving soil conditions.However,the dynamics of the herbaceous species also reminded us that the longterm effects of H.ammodendron plantation,especially on changes in vegetation composition,still need further evaluation. | ZHANG Ke SU Yongzhong WANG Ting LIU Tingna | 2016 | Journal of Arid Land2016,8,6: | 4 |
| 5 | Salinity effects on soil organic carbon and its labile fractions,and nematode communities in irrigated farmlands in an arid region,northwestern China显示文摘The effects of salinity on soil organic carbon(SOC) and its labile fractions including microbial biomass carbon(MBC) and easily oxidation organic carbon(EOC),basal soil respiration,and soil nematode community in the Fluvents,an oasis in an arid region of northwestern China were investigated.Five sites were selected which had a salinity gradient with different groundwater table from 1.0 m to 4.0 m.Soils were sampled at the 0–20 cm plough layer from 25 irrigated fields of five sites and electrical conductivity was measured in the saturation paste extracts(ECe).Soils were categorized into five salinity levels:(1) non-saline,(2) very slightly saline,(3) slightly saline,(4) moderately saline,and(5) strongly saline according to the values of ECe.The results show that SOC and total nitrogen concentration,cation exchange capacity(CEC),and the concentrations of labile organic fractions(MBC,EOC),and basal soil respiration decreased significantly with increasing ECe.The relationships between ECe and MBC,EOC and basal soil respiration were best described by power functions.Slight and moderate salinity had no significant impact on soil nematode abundance,but excessive salt accumulation led to a marked decline in soil nematode community diversity and abundance.Soil salinity changed soil nematode trophic groups and bacterivores were the most abundant trophic groups in salt-affected soils.Further study is necessary to identify the response of soil microbial processes and nematode community dynamics to soil salinity. | YongZhong Su TingNa Liu XueFen Wang Rong Yang | 2016 | Research in Cold and Arid Regions2016,8,1: | 3 |

| 7 | The establishment and development of Haloxylon ammodendron promotes salt accumulation in surface soil of arid sandy land显示文摘Haloxylon ammodendron, a representative C_4 succulent xerophyte and salt-secreting plant, is widely used in vegetation reestablishment programs to stabilize shifting sand, and is one of the dominant shrubs in the shelter belt used to control desertification in the desert-oasis ecotone in northwestern China. In this study, we collected soil samples in an age sequence of 0-, 2-, 5-, 13-, 16-, 31-, and 39-year-old H. ammodendron plantations to assess the effects of the shrub on soil fertility and salinity. Results show that SOC and total N concentrations increased significantly with increasing plantation age and increased 5.95-(in the interspaces) to 9.05-fold(under the canopy) and 6.15-to 8.46-fold at the 0-5 cm depth at the 39-year-old plantation compared with non-vegetated sandy land. Simultaneously, H. ammodendron establishment and development resulted in significant salt accumulation in the surface layer. On average, total soil salt content at the 0-5 cm and 5-20 cm depth increased 16.8-fold and 4.4-fold, respectively, compared with non-vegetated sandy land. The increase of total salt derived mostly from the accumulation of SO_4^(2-), Ca^(2+) and Na^+ with H. ammodendron development. The accumulation in salinity was more significant than the increase in fertility, suggesting that improved soil fertility did not limit the impact of salinization.
