1Comparative analyses of leaf anatomy of dicotyledonous species in Tibetan and Inner Mongolian grasslands显示文摘Knowledge of the leaf anatomy of grassland plants is crucial for understanding how these plants adapt to the environment. Tibetan alpine grasslands and Inner Mongolian temperate grasslands are two major grassland types in northern China. Tibetan alpine grasslands occur in high-altitude regions where the low temperatures limit plant growth. Inner Mongolian temperate grasslands are found in arid regions where moisture is the limiting factor. Few comparative studies concerning the leaf anatomy of grassland plants of the Tibetan Plateau and Inner Mongolian Plateau have been conducted. We examined leaf characteristics at 71 sites and among 65 species, across the alpine grasslands of the Tibetan Plateau and the temperate grasslands of the Inner Mongolian Plateau. We compared the leaf structures of plants with different life forms and taxonomies, and their adaptation to arid or cold environments. We explored relationships among leaf features and the effects of climatic factors (i.e., growing season temperature and precipitation) on leaf characteristics. Our results showed that (i) there were significant differences in leaf anatomy between Tibetan alpine and Inner Mongolian temperate grasslands. Except for mesophyll cell density, the values obtained for thickness of leaf tissue, surface area and volume of mesophyll cells were larger on the Tibetan Plateau than on the Inner Mongolian Plateau. (ii) Within the same family or genus, leaf anatomy showed significant differences between two regions, and trends were consistent with those of whole species. (iii) Leaf anatomy of woody and herbaceous plants also showed significant differences between the regions. Except for mesophyll cell density, the values obtained for the thickness of leaf tissue, and the surface area and volume of mesophyll cells were larger in herbaceous than in woody plants. (iv) Leaf anatomical traits changed accordingly. Total leaf thickness, thicknesses of lower and upper epidermal cells, and surface area and volume of mesophyll cells were positively correlated, while mesophyll cell density was negatively associated with those traits. (v) Growing season temperature had stronger effects on leaf anatomy than growing season precipitation. Although the communities in Tibetan and Inner Mongolian grasslands were similar in appearance, leaf anatomy differed; this was probably due to the combined effects of evolutionary adaptation of plants to environment and environmental stress induced by climatic factors.MA JianJing JI ChengJun HAN Mei ZHANG TingFang YAN XueDong HU Dong ZENG Hui HE JinSheng 2012Science China(Life Sciences)2012,55,1:12
2Current approaches to reduce or eliminate mitochondrial DNA mutations显示文摘Mitochondrial DNA(mt DNA)mutations have been implicated in a broad range of disorders which severely affect human health(Wallace,1999).Some drugs have been developed to slow down pathological changes of mitochondrial disorders. However, there is no effective treatment for patients with mt DNA mutations.mt DNA is less protected and has fewer repair mechanisms than nuclear DNA(n DNA).Such a reality results in a much higherLiang Yang Tingfang Mei Xiaobing Lin Haite Tang Yi Wu Rui Wang Jinglei Liu Zahir Shah Xingguo Liu 2016Science China(Life Sciences)2016,59,5:3
3PLSCR1 promotes apoptosis and clearance of retinal ganglion cells in glaucoma pathogenesis显示文摘Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. In the pathogen-esis of glaucoma, activated microglia can lead to retinal ganglion cells(RGCs)apoptosis and death, however, the molecular mechanisms remain largely unknown. We demonstrate that phospholipid scramblase 1(PLSCR1)is a key regulator promoting RGCs apoptosis and their clearance by microglia. As evidenced in retinal progenitor cells and RGCs of the acute ocular hypertension(AOH)mouse model, overexpressed PLSCR1 induced its translocation from the nucleus to the cytoplasm and cytomembrane,as well as elevated phosphatidylserine exposure and reactive oxygen species generation with subsequent RGCs apoptosis and death. These damages were effectively attenuated by PLSCR1 inhibition. In the AOH model,PLSCR1 led to an increase in M1 type microglia activation and retinal neuroinflammation.Upregulation of PLSCR1 resulted in strongly elevated phagocytosis of apoptotic RGCs by activated microglia.Taken together, our study provides important insights linking activated microglia to RGCs death in the glaucoma pathogenesis and other RGC-related neurodegenerative diseases.Jingyi Luo Qing Lian Deliang Zhu Minglei Zhao Tingfang Mei Bizhi Shang Zeqiu Yang Chujun Liu Wenchang Xu Lan Zhou Keling Wu Xinqi Liu Yuhua Lai Fuxiang Mao Weihua Li Chengguo Zuo Kang Zhang Mingkai Lin Yehong Zhuo Yizhi Liu Lin Lu Ling Zhao 2023Genes & Diseases2023,10,4:0
