1Growth and Feed Efficiency of Juvenile Shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei Fed Formulated Diets Containing Different Levels of Poultry by-Product Meal显示文摘This feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the potential of poultry by-product meal (PBM) as a protein source in the culture of Litopenaeus vannamei. Seven isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were formulated to near to commercial diet with about 40% protein and 7.5% lipid. Fish meal was replaced by 0, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70% and 100% of PBM (diets 1-7). The diet with 100% fish meal was used as a control (diet 1). Post-larvae were reared in an indoor semi-closed re-circulating system. Each dietary treatment was tested in 4 replicate tanks (260 L) of 40 shrimp, arranged in a completely randomized design. The shrimps were hand-fed for three times a day to near-satiation (0700, 1200 and 1800) for 60 d. Percentage weight gain, survival, feed conversion ratio (FCR), protein efficiency ratio (PER) and body composition of shrimps were measured. There were no significant differences (P>0.05) in growth performance among shrimps fed diets 1-5 (0-60% fish meal replacement). However, shrimps fed diet 7 (100% fish meal replacement) had significantly lower (P<0.05) growth than those fed diets 1-5 (0-60% fish meal replacement). Shrimp fed diets 2-4 (30%-50% fish meal replacement) showed significantly higher growth than those fed diets 6 and 7 (70% and 100% fish meal replacement, respectively). Survival ranged from 94.7% to 100.0% and did not differ significantly (P>0.05) among different experimental diets. No differences in body composition were found among shrimps fed different diets. 2Effect of Replacing Fish Meal with Extruded Soybean Meal on Growth, Feed Utilization and Apparent Nutrient Digestibility of Juvenile White Shrimp(Litopenaeus vannamei)显示文摘Extruded soybean meal(ESBM) was evaluated as a protein source for partial replacement of fish meal(FM) in diets of juvenile Litopenaeus vannamei. In the control diet(Diet 1), FM protein was replaced with increasing dietary levels of ESBM(4.28%, 8.40%, 12.62%, 16.82%, and 25.26%) at 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 60% levels(Diets 2 to 6, respectively). An eight-week feeding trial was conducted on 720 juvenile shrimp(0.67 g ± 0.01 g mean initial weight), and nutrient digestibility of the six diets was determined. ESBM could replace 20% of FM without causing a significant reduction in growth of shrimp, but other dietary treatments strongly affected whole body composition. Crude protein content of the whole body fed Diet 6 was significantly lower than that fed Diet 2(P < 0.05), while crude lipid content of the whole body fed Diet 5 or 6 was significantly higher than that fed Diet 2(P < 0.05). Protein digestibilities of Diets 5 and 6 were significantly lower than that of Diet 1(P < 0.05). Digestibility of lipids ranged from 96.97% in Diet 6 to 98.34% in Diet 3, whereas dry matter digestibility decreased with increasing replacement level. 3Molecular insight into electron transfer properties of extracellular polymeric substances of electroactive bacteria by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy显示文摘Extracellular polymeric substances(EPS) extracted from electroactive bacteria show promising redox activity, but the electron transfer(ET) mechanism of the EPS has been rarely elucidated because of their structural complexity and lack of efficient methodologies. In this study, the charge transfer theory of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS) was applied to evaluate the redox properties of EPS adsorbed on Ni and Ag nanoparticles(NPs). These metal NPs were used to simultaneously magnify Raman signals and reduce/oxidize the redox moieties in EPS. As a result, the ET between EPS and metal NPs was evaluated through the changes in Raman signals. In this regard, we compared the redox activity of EPS extracted from two typical electroactive bacteria(Shewanella oneidensis and Geobacter sulfurreducens) and another two nonelectroactive strains(Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis). Electrochemical measurements show that the electroactive strains have higher redox capabilities than nonelectroactive strains. The SERS analysis shows that the porphyrin present in cytochrome c is the dominating redox moiety in the EPS of electroactive bacteria. 5Flesh quality of hybrid grouper(Epinephelus fuscoguttatus♀×Epinephelus lanceolatus♂)fed with hydrolyzed porcine mucosasupplemented low fishmeal diet显示文摘Iso-nitrogenous and iso-lipidic diets containing 0%,3%,6%,9%,and 12%hydrolyzed porcine mucosa(namely,HPM0,HPM3,HPM6,HPM9,and HPM12)were prepared to evaluate their effects on the growth performance,muscle nutrition composition,texture property,and gene expression related to muscle growth of hybrid groupers(Epinephelus fuscoguttatus\Epinephelus lanceolatus_).Groupers were fed to apparent satiation at 08:00 and 16:00 every day for a total of 56 days.It was found that the weight gain percentage in the HPM0,HPM3,and HPM6 groups did not differ(P>0.05).The cooking loss and drip loss of the dorsal muscle in the HPM3 group were lower than those in the HPM6 and HPM9 groups(P<0.05).The hardness and chewiness of the dorsal muscle in the HPM3 group were higher than those in the HPM0,HPM9,and HPM12 groups(P<0.05).The gumminess in the HPM3 group was higher than that in the HPM9 and HPM12 groups(P<0.05).The total essential amino acid content of the dorsal muscle in the HPM12 group was higher than that in the HPM0 group(P<0.05).The contents of total n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid and total n-3 highly unsaturated fatty acid,as well as the ratio of n-3/n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid in the dorsal muscle was higher in the HPM0 group than in all other groups(P<0.05).The relative expressions of gene myogenic factor 5,myocyte enhancer factor 2c,myocyte enhancer factor 2a,myosin heavy chain,transforming growth factor-beta 1(TGF-b1),and follistatin(FST)were the highest in the dorsal muscle of the HPM3 group.The results indicated that the growth performance of hybrid grouper fed a diet with 6%HPM and 27%fish meal was as good as that of the HPM0 group.When fish ingested a diet containing 3%HPM,the expression of genes TGF-β1 and FST involved in muscle growth were upregulated,and then the muscle quality related to hardness and chewiness were improved.An appropriate amount of HPM could be better used in grouper feed.Xuanyi Yang Xinyan Zhi Ziling Song Guanghui Wang Xumin Zhao Shuyan Chi Beiping Tan 2022Animal Nutrition2022,,1:2

12Isolation and Identification of a Bacterium from Marine Shrimp Digestive Tract:A New Degrader of Starch and Protein显示文摘It is a practical approach to select candidate probiotic bacterial stains on the basis of their special traits. Production of digestive enzyme was used as a trait to select a candidate probiotic bacterial strain in this study. In order to select a bacterium with the ability to degrade both starch and protein, an ideal bacterial strain STE was isolated from marine shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) intestines by using multiple selective media.The selected isolate STE was identified on the basis of its morphological, physiological,and biochemical characteristics as well as molecular analyses. Results of degradation experiments confirmed the ability of the selected isolate to degrade both starch and casein. The isolate STE was aerobic, Gram-negative, rod-shaped, motile and non-spore-forming, and had catalase and oxidase activities but no glucose fermentation activity. Among the tested carbon/nitrogen sources, only Tween40, alanyl-glycine, aspartyl-glycine, and glycyl-l-glutamic acid were utilized by the isolate STE. Results of homology comparison analyses of the 16S rDNA sequences showed that the isolate STE had a high similarity to several Pseudoalteromonas species and, in the phylogenetic tree, grouped with P. ruthenica with maximum bootstrap support (100%). In conclusion, the isolate STE was characterized as a novel strain belonging to the genus Pseudoalteromonas.This study provides a further example of a probiotic bacterial strain with specific characteristics isolated from the host gastrointestinal tract.LI Jiqiu TAN Beiping MAI Kangsen 2011Journal of Ocean University of China2011,10,3:1

20Host gut-derived Bacillus probiotics supplementation improves growth performance, serum and liver immunity, gut health, and resistive capacity against Vibrio harveyi infection in hybrid grouper(♀Epinephelus fuscoguttatus × ♂Epinephelus lanceolatus)显示文摘Several reports have revealed the vital role that probiotics play in fish growth and health.However,few works are available for host gut-derived probiotics on the growth,immunity,and gut microbiota of fish,especially in hybrid grouper (♀Epinephelus fuscoguttatus×♂Epinephelus lanceolatus) due to their isolation difficulty and functional verification.This study aimed at assessing 3 host gut-derived Bacillus species?effects on the growth,immune and antioxidant-biochemical responses,haematological parameters,intestinal morphology,immune-related gene expression,gut microbiota,and disease resistance against Vibrio harveyi in hybrid grouper.A total of 480 hybrid grouper (initial weight=9.03±0.02 g) were randomly allotted into 4 groups,namely,the group fed a basal diet without probiotic inclusion (control,B0),the group fed the basal diet with Bacillus velezensis GPSAK4 (BV),the group fed the basal diet with Bacillus subtilis GPSAK9 (BS),and the group fed the basal diet with Bacillus tequilensis GPSAK2 (BT) strains at 1.0×10^(9)CFU/g.After a 6-week feeding trial,the results revealed significant improvements (P<0.05) in the growth performance,whole fish-body proximate composition,blood haematological parameters,serum,liver,and intestinal biochemical indexes,intestinal morphology,and protection against V.harveyi pathogen in the probiotic-treated groups compared with the untreated.Additionally,the expressions of intestinal tight junction genes (occludin and ZO1),pro-and anti-inflammatory genes,including IL1β,IL6,IL8,TNFa,MyD88,IL10,and TGFβ,were upregulated (P<0.05) after Bacillus species administration.Host gut-derived Bacillus supplementation shaped the gut microbiota by significantly increasing (P<0.05) the relative abundance of Proteobacteria,Bacteroidetes,Actinobacteria (except the BS group),Acidobacteria(except the BT group),Cyanobacteria (except the BV and BT groups),and Verrucomicrobia phyla,as well as known beneficial genera (Romboutsia,Turicibacter,Epulopiscium,Clostridium_sensu_stricto 1 and 13,Lactobacillus,and Bacillus),but significantly decreased (P<0.05) the abundance of Firmicutes,Chloroflexi,and Fusobacteria phyla,and purported pathogenic genera (Staphylococcus and Photobacterium) compared with the control group.Collectively,the results suggest that B.velezensis GPSAK4,B.subtilis GPSAK9(especially this strain),B.tequilensis GPSAK2 dietary supplementation at 1.0×10^(9)CFU/g has positive effects on the intestinal health of hybrid grouper via microbial composition modulation,thus enhancing the assimilation and absorption of nutrients to boost fish growth,immunity,and disease resistance.Kwaku Amoah Beiping Tan Shuang Zhang Shuyan Chi Qihui Yang Hongyu Liu Yuanzhi Yang Haitao Zhang Xiaohui Dong 2023Animal Nutrition2023,,3:0
