| 1 | Impacts of Weather Conditions Modified by Urban Expansion on Surface Ozone: Comparison between the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta Regions显示文摘In this paper, the online weather research and forecasting and chemistry (WRF-Chem) model is used to explore the impacts of urban expansion on regional weather conditions and its implication on surface ozone concentrations over the Pearl River Delta(PRD) and Yangtze River Delta(YRD) regions. Two scenarios of urban maps are used in the WRF-Chem to represent the early 1990s (pre-urbanization) and the current urban distribution in the PRD and the YRD. Month-long simulation results using the above land-use scenarios for March 2001 show that urbanization increases both the day- and night-time 2-m temperatures by about 0.6℃ and 1.4℃, respectively. Daytime reduction in the wind speed by about 3.0 m s-1 is larger than that for the nighttime (0.5 to 2 m s-1). The daytime increase in the PBL height (> 200 m) is also larger than the nighttime (50-100 m). The meteorological conditions modified by urbanization lead to detectable ozone-concentration changes in the PRD and the YRD. Urbanization increases the nighttime surface-ozone concentrations by about 4.7%-8.5% and by about 2.9%-4.2% for the daytime. In addition to modifying individual meteorological variables, urbanization also enhances the convergence zones, especially in the PRD. More importantly, urbanization has different effects on the surface ozone for the PRD and the YRD, presumably due to their urbanization characteristics and geographical locations. Even though the PRD has a smaller increase in the surface temperature than the YRD, it has (a) weaker surface wind speed, (b) smaller increase in PBL heights, and (c) stronger convergence zones. | 3 | Enhanced recovery after surgery protocol enhances early postoperative recovery after pancreaticoduodenectomy显示文摘Background: Enhanced recovery after surgery(ERAS) protocol is a multimodal, multidisciplinary and evidence-based approach to reduce surgical stress and enhance recovery in the postoperative period. This study aimed to analyze the outcome of ERAS protocol in patients after pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD). Methods: A total of 50 consecutive patients with pancreatic/periampullary cancer who underwent PD between January 2016 to August 2017 were included in the study. As per the institute ERAS protocol, nasogastric tube(NGT) was removed on postoperative day(POD) 1 if output was less than 200 mL and oral sips were allowed; oral liquids were allowed on POD2; semisolid diet by POD3; abdominal drain was removed on POD 4 if output was less than 100 mL with no evidence of postoperative pancreatic fistula(POPF); normal diet was allowed on POD5. Discharge criteria on POD6 were afebrile, tolerating oral normal diet, pain free and no surgery related complications(defined as per the ISGPS definitions). Results: NGT was removed on POD1 in 45(90%) patients, abdominal drain removed by POD4 in 41(82%) and 43(86%) patients were discharged on POD6. There was no 30-day postoperative mortality. Three(6%) patients had delayed gastric emptying(DGE). None had postoperative hemorrhage and POPF. Readmission rate was 8%. A significant relation was found between the length of hospital stay(LOS) with age( P < 0.05) and a marginal relation between LOS and postoperative albumin( P = 0.05). Conclusions: ERAS protocol can be safely followed in the perioperative care of patients who undergo PD. Early removal of NGT and allowing oral diet restore bowel function early. | 4 | Expression profile of cholecystokinin type-A receptor in gallbladder cancer and gallstone disease显示文摘BACKGROUND:Regulatory peptide receptors have attracted the interest of oncologists as a new promising approach for cancer pathology,imaging and therapy.Although cholecystokinin (CCK) is a potent modulator of gallbladder contractility and plays a potential role in pancreatic carcinogenesis through CCK type-A receptor (CCKAR),its role in gallbladder cancer (GBC) is still unknown and immunohistochemical detection of CCKAR in the gallbladder has not yet been reported.This novel case-control study aimed to investigate the expression profile of CCKAR in GBC and gallstone disease (GSD).METHODS:This study included 162 samples of gallbladder:94 from GBC and 68 from GSD.Expression of CCKAR was analyzed by immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting.The results were statistically correlated with disease history including age,sex,presence of gallstone,stage and differentiation.RESULTS:CCKAR was positive in 30/68 (44.1%) of GSD and 72/94 (76.6%) of GBC samples.Fifty-one of the 72 (70.8%) CCKAR-positive GBC samples showed over-expression.Interestingly,consistent results also appeared in the immunoblotting study.CONCLUSIONS:CCKAR expression was significantly increased in GBC compared to GSD.Moreover,CCKAR expression was associated with the degree of tumor differentiation,i.e.,less expression in poorly-differentiated tumors.Thus,it has future prognostic and therapeutic implications in the management of GBC. | Rajani Rai Mallika Tewari Mohan Kumar Tej Bali Singh Hari S Shukla | 2011 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2011,10,4: | 7 |
| 5 | Use of a Bioaugmented Organic Soil Amendment in Combination with Gypsum for Withania somnifera Growth on Sodic Soil显示文摘Limited availability of organic matter is a problem to sustain crop growth on sodic soil. Organic soil amendments are a costeffective source of nutrients to enhance crop growth. A field study was conducted to evaluate the effect of an organic soil amendment bioaugmented with plant growth-promoting fungi(SF_(OA) ) in combination with gypsum on soil properties and growth and yield attributes of Withania somnifera, one of the most valuable crops of the traditional medicinal system in the world, on a sodic soil at the Aurawan Research Farm of CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow, India. The SF_(OA) used was prepared by pre-enriching farm waste vermicompost with plant growth-promoting fungi before mixing with pressmud and Azadirachta indica seed cake. The application of SF_(OA) at 10 Mg ha^(-1)after gypsum(25.0 Mg ha^(-1)) treatment significantly(P < 0.05) increased root length(by 96%) and biomass(by 125%) of Withania plants compared to the control without SF_(OA) and gypsum. Similarly, the highest withanolide contents were observed in leaves and roots of Withania plants under 10 Mg ha^(-1)SF_(OA) and gypsum. Combined application of SF_(OA) and gypsum also improved physical, chemical and enzymatic properties of the soil, with the soil bulk density decreasing by 25%, water-holding capacity increasing by 121%, total organic C increasing by 90%, p H decreasing by 17% and alkaline phosphatase, β-glucosidase, dehydrogenase and cellulase activities increasing by 54%, 128%, 81% and 96%, respectively, compared to those of the control. | 6 | Salmonella typhi and gallbladder cancer:report from an endemic region显示文摘BACKGROUND:Evidence exists of a link between chronic infection by Salmonella typhi(S.typhi) and the development of gallbladder cancer(GBC),but several studies from endemic regions contradict its role in the etiopathogenesis of GBC.This study used various tools to assess the prevalence of S.typhi in patients with GBC and gallstone disease(GSD) in this region with a high incidence of GBC.METHODS:S.typhi was detected in tissue and bile by PCR and culture and in serum by the Widal test and indirect hemagglutination assay(IHA).PCR with two pairs of S.typhi specific primers(flagellin gene H1d and SOP E gene) could detect 0.6 ng of S.typhi DNA.Fifty-four patients with GBC(cases) were matched with 54 patients with GSD(controls).RESULTS:Of the 54 cases,24(44.44%) were positive on the Widal test and 12(22.22%) on IHA,compared to 13(24.07%) and 5(9.26%) respectively in the controls.Eighteen(33.33%) cases showed a positive result on PCR(tissue) and 2 on PCR(bile) vs.none in the controls.Bile culture revealed no Salmonella colonies in either cases or controls.Only 3 cases were positive for Salmonella on tissue culture compared to none in the controls.The sensitivity of PCR(tissue) relative to the Widal test,IHA,culture(bile and tissue) and PCR(bile) was 100% vs.66.67%,11.11%,and 11.11%,and the specificity was 83.33% vs.100%,100%,and 100%,respectively.CONCLUSIONS:S.typhi is significantly associated with GBC compared to GSD(33% vs.0%).PCR appears to be the most specific diagnostic tool,the gold standard for S.typhi in tissue samples. | Mallika Tewari Raghvendra R Mishra Hari S Shukla | 2010 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2010,9,5: | 5 |
| 7 | 后腹腔镜下节段性肾动脉阻断保留肾单位手术的初步结果和体会显示文摘目的:探讨后腹腔镜下节段性肾动脉阻断保留肾单位肾部分切除术治疗局限性小肾肿瘤的临床应用价值和初步结果。方法:回顾性总结贵阳医学院附属医院2011年9月-2013年6月采取后腹腔镜下节段性肾动脉阻断保留肾单位肾部分切除术治疗局限性小肾肿瘤患者44例。男26例,女18例,平均年龄50.2岁;平均肿瘤直径(2.8±0.9)cm;肿瘤位于下极25例,中极10例,上极9例;T1a期36例,良性肿瘤8例;肾透明细胞癌23例,乳头状癌7例,嫌色细胞癌6例,肾错构瘤8例。统计患者手术时间(min)、术中出血量(ml)、术后胃肠功能恢复时间(h)、手术并发症发生率(%)、切缘阳性率(%)、总住院时间(d)以及术后6个月术侧肾的肾小球滤过率(eGFR)下降(%)等参数,所有患者随访6-12个月,监测肿瘤复发情况。结果:44例患者手术时间110-192min,平均132min;术中出血40-120ml,平均74ml,无一例输血,无中转;术后胃肠功能恢复时间16.2-23.5h,平均19.3h;手术并发症发生率9.1%(4/44);住院时间4-9d,平均4.6d;切缘阳性率2.3%(1/44)。患者随访期内无肿瘤复发,术后6个月44例患肾eGFR较术前无明显变化。术后6-12个月7例(7/44,15.9%)患肾eGFR较术前下降13.4-18.5ml/min,平均下降15.2ml/min(P〈0.05)。结论:后腹腔镜下节段性肾动脉阻断保留肾单位肾部分切除术具有创伤小、术中失血量少、胃肠功能恢复快、手术并发症少、住院时间短等优点。少部分患者术后远期患肾肾功能有一定影响,需要进一步观察。该术式是治疗局限性小肾肿瘤的一种安全有效的手术方法。 | 陈方敏 石家齐 李登宝 李海峰 杨昊 严波 任德帅 张鹏 钟渠梁 陈程 姜锡男 Ashutosh Tewari | 2014 | 临床泌尿外科杂志2014,29,10: | 5 |

| 9 | Climate change effects in the Western Himalayan ecosystems of India: evidence and strategies显示文摘Background: The fragile landscapes of the Himalayan region are highly susceptible to natural hazards, and there is ongoing concern about current and potential climate change impacts. This study provides background information on India's Western Himalayas and reviews evidence of warming as well as variability in precipitation and extreme events.Methods: Understanding and anticipating the impacts of climate change on Himalayan forest ecosystems and the services they provide to people are critical. Efforts to develop and implement effective policies and management strategies for climate change mitigation and adaptation requires particular new research initiatives. The various studies initiated and conducted in the region are compiled here.Results: Several new initiatives taken by the Himalayan Forest Research Institute in Shimla are described. This includes new permanent observational field studies, some with mapped trees, in high altitude transitional zones for continuous monitoring of vegetation response. We have also presented new strategies for mitigating potential climate change effects in Himalayan forest ecosystems.Conclusions: Assessment of the ecological and genetic diversity of the Himalayan conifers is required to evaluate potential responses to changing climatic conditions. Conservation strategies for the important temperate medicinal plants need to be developed. The impact of climate change on insects and pathogens in the Himalayas also need to be assessed. | 10 | Heartwood, sapwood and bark content of teak trees grown in Karnataka, India显示文摘We evaluated heartwood, sapwood and bark content in teak trees.A total of 27 sample plots were laid out in teak plantations raised by State Forest Department in Karnataka covering different age groups(11 36 years), density(516 2061 trees/ha) and sites.From these plantations, a total of 130 trees were felled for estimating the yield and bark content in relation to diameter at breast height(DBH), age and density.Bark content ranged from 22.2% 54.3%.Heartwood and sapwood content were analyzed by sampling five trees each from two different plantations, one 30 years old at 553 trees ha-1and the other 32 years old at 911trees ha-1.The highest heartwood proportion of stem wood volume(over-bark) was 56.3% and the lowest was 37.1%.The sapwood proportion ranged from 12.9% 23.0%, while the bark content ranged from27.8% 43.5%.The heartwood proportion increased with DBH, while the proportion of bark decreased.The sapwood proportion did not vary with DBH.The bark content decreased with increasing age, but increased with stand density.There was no significant difference in heartwood content with respect to age or stand density because the ages of the two stands were similar.A larger dataset from young to mature stands is needed to describe the relationships between age and stand density and heartwood,sapwood and bark content of trees. | Vindhya Prasad Tewari K.M.Mariswamy | 2013 | Journal of Forestry Research2013,24,4: | 4 |

| 14 | Phytochemical analysis and antioxidant profile of methanolic extract of seed, pulp and peel of Baccaurea ramiflora Lour.显示文摘Objective: To analyze the phytochemical constituents responsible for the plausible antioxidant effect of methanolic extract of the seed, pulp and peel of Baccaurea ramiflora Lour. Methods: Fresh seed, pulp, and peel of Baccaurea ramiflora fruits were extracted with methanol(MEBRse, MEBRpu, MEBRpe) and evaluated by phytochemical analysis for their content of innumerable metabolites(primary and secondary) viz. carbohydrates, alkaloids, glycosides, tannins, phenols, terpenoids, flavonoids, proteins, and fixed oils. The antioxidant efficacy was assessed through different assay methods viz. 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) free radical scavenging activity, total antioxidant capacity(TAC) and reducing power capacity(RPC). Estimation of total phenolic content(TPC), and total flavonoid content(TFC) was also done to confirm the presence of these phytochemicals. Results: It was revealed from the phytochemical analysis of MEBRse that alkaloids, glycosides, carbohydrates, phenols, and flavonoids were present, while that of MEBRpu showed the existence of carbohydrates, proteins, alkaloids, glycosides, phenols, saponins, flavonoids, and fixed oils. Presence of carbohydrates, alkaloids, phenols, tannins, flavonoids, and terpenoids were found in the MEBRpe. A significant antioxidant activity was revealed by the MEBRpu [EC_(50):(27.612 ± 1.375) μg/mL], compared to MEBRpe, and MEBRse in DPPH assay. The ranking order for RPC was MEBRpu > MEBRpe > MEBRse respectively. The EC_(50) value of TAC of the MEBRpu, MEBRpe, and MEBRse were(25.107 ±0.744) μg/mL,(241.127 ± 7.463) μg/mL and(372.364 ± 11.030) μg/mL, respectively. Quantity of TPC and TFC were the highest in the MEBRpu(124.360 ± 2.078 mg GAE/g and 107.527 ±1.900 mg QRE/g extract) rather than MEBRpe and MEBRse extracts. Conclusions: This study suggests that MEBRpu has a significantly higher antioxidant property than MEBRpe and MEBRse. These extracts might be advantageous in prevention or decelerating the progress of different diseases related to oxidative-stress/damage. Sarg.) forest in three categories of forest disturbance, protected, moderately disturbed, and highly disturbed. In the first year, total biomass was 14.7 t?ha-1 in highly disturbed site, 94.46 t?ha-1 in moderately disturbed forest, and 112.0 t?ha-1 in protected forest. The soil organic carbon in the top 20 cm of soil ranged from 0.63 to 1.2%. | 18 | Helicobacter species and pathogenesis of gallbladder cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND:Gallbladder cancer(GBC)is a rare disease but a leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide.A number of etiological factors have been implicated in the causation of GBC and pathogenic infection by bacteria is one of these. DATA SOURCES:A PubMed search on'helicobacter','gall- bladder cancer',and'biliary tract malignancies'was done on the topic,and the relevant data were collected,reviewed,and analyzed. RESULTS:Helicobacter is an epsilon proteobacterium that infects the mucosal lining of the human gastrobiliary system. Infection with helicobacter is an important risk factor for the development of cancer and the bacterium has been categorized as a group-Ⅰcarcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer(IARC).These microbes enter the human body by means of contaminated food and water.Thereby they invade the tissues and produce chemical carcinogens that lead to DNA damage and subsequently a series of gene mutations transform normal cells into cancer cells.In this review,we focus our attention on the role of helicobacter in the causation of biliary tract malignancies.
