3Feed profile analysis of oil palm‐integrated beef cattle farming systems by metabolic energy budgeting and implications for beef production and pastoral system design显示文摘Background:Oil palm is a tropical crop with worldwide plantings approaching 20 million ha and large areas in Indonesia,Malaysia and Thailand.The plantations are readily managed as silvopastoral systems incorporating cattle grazing(Oil Palm Silvopastoral System for Cattle,OPSC)but there is a need for analytical tools and data to understand system herbage supply and feed conversion efficiency(FCE).Methods:Metabolic energy budgeting was used to estimate herbage harvested by cattle in three OPSC subsystems,9 and 12 years after oil palm establishment,and FCE of the subsystems was determined.Understorey herbage was also analysed for nutritive value,botanical composition and herbage accumulation within one grazing‐regrowth cycle.Results:The herbage‐harvested estimate was 2.0−2.4 t dry matter(DM)ha^(-1) year^(-1) for 9 year old subsystems and 1.4-1.7 tDMha^(-1) year^(-1) for a 12 year old subsystem.Herbage metabolisable energy(ME)was 8.3−8.5 MJ kg^(-1) DM and crude protein(CP)was 15%-16%DM.FCE values for subsystems ranged from 32 to 94 kg DM kg^(-1) liveweight‐gain.Conclusions:Herbage DM yield is declining,while herbage ME is marginal but CP is adequate.FCE is suboptimal but can be optimised by defining the trajectory of declining herbage production with canopy closure as plantations age and matching stocking rate to herbage supply using a comparativestocking‐rate‐type statistic.Januarius Gobilik Hasbudie Baco Mohd.Azid Kabul Suhaimi Dollah Stephen T.Morris Cory Matthew 2023Grassland Research2023,2,1:0

5Identifying marsh dieback events from Landsat image series (1998–2018) with an Autoencoder in the NIWB estuary, South Carolina显示文摘This study reports an inventory of marsh dieback events from spatial and temporal perspectives in the North Inlet-Winyah Bay(NIWB)estuary,South Carolina(SC).Past studies in the Gulf/Atlantic coast states have reported acute marsh dieback events in which marsh rapidly browned and thinned,leaving stubble of dead stems or mudflat with damaged ecosystem services.Reported marsh dieback in SC,however,have been limited.This study identified all marsh dieback events in the estuary since 1998.With 20 annually collected Landsat images,the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI)series was extracted.A Stacked Denoising Autoencoder neural network was developed to identify the NDVI anomalies on the trajectories.All marsh dieback patches were extracted,and their inter-annual changes were examined.Results showed a continuous,spatially variable multi-year dieback event in 1998–2005,which aligned with the reported dieback in the early 2000s from other states.The identified patches mostly returned to normal within one year while the phenomenon reoccurred in other areas of the estuary during the prolonged dieback period.This study presents the first attempt to explore long-term dieback dynamics in an estuary using satellite time series.It provides valuable information in documenting marsh healthiness and environmental resilience on SC coasts.Huixuan Li Cuizhen Wang Jean T.Ellis Yuxin Cui Gwen Miller James T.Morris 2020International Journal of Digital Earth2020,13,12:0
6Decreased incidence of febrile neutropenia in Michigan following masking and social distancing orders for the COVID-19 pandemic: A population based cohort study显示文摘BACKGROUND It has been theorized that 75%-80%of febrile neutropenia(FN)is caused by endogenous pathogens,while up to 20%of cases are thought to be caused by a viral infection.It is unknown if precautions such as masking and social distancing reduce the risk of FN in susceptible populations.AIM To determine whether coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)infection mitigation efforts,namely masking and social distancing,were associated with a reduction in the incidence of FN.METHODS This was a retrospective population based cohort study comparing the incidence of FN in the 13 mo prior to(Year 0)and 13 mo following(Year 1)the public health executive orders(PHEO)in Michigan.Data was queried for all emergency department(ED)visits from April 1,2019 to March 31,2021 from the National Syndromic Surveillance Program,a program which collects data that is voluntarily submitted by approximately 89%of Michigan EDs.The primary study outcome was the incidence of FN as a proportion of ED visits in the 13-mo before and 13-mo after COVID-19 mitigations efforts,namely masking and social distancing.We hypothesized that there would be a significant decrease in the incidence of FN in the period following the PHEO aimed at reducing the spread of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 virus.RESULTS There was a total of 8979221 total ED visits captured during the study period.In Year 0 there were 5073081 recorded ED visits and 3906140 in Year 1.There was a significant reduction in the proportion of total ED visits with a diagnosis of FN,decreasing 13.3%across periods(0.15%vs 0.13%,P=0.036).In patients with a hematologic malignancy a more impressive reduction in the incidence of FN was evident following PHEO(22%vs 17%,P=0.02).CONCLUSION We found a significant association between social distancing and mask guidelines implemented on a large public scale with decreased rates of FN,particularly in those with a hematologic malignancy.These findings may be useful in the design of future research and recommendations regarding the prevention of FN.Michael Gerard Baracy Jr Karen Hagglund Sanjana Kulkarni Fareeza Afzal Katherine Arends Robert T.Morris Leigh Ann Solomon Muhammad Faisal Aslam Logan Corey 2022World Journal of Clinical Oncology2022,13,7:0
