1Endoscopic variceal ligation compared with endoscopic injection sclerotherapy for treatment of esophageal variceal hemorrhage:A meta-analysis显示文摘AIM:To compare the effect of endoscopic variceal ligation(EVL)with that of endoscopic injection sclerotherapy(EIS)in the treatment of patients withesophageal variceal bleeding.METHODS:We performed a systematic literature search of multiple online electronic databases.Metaanalysis was conducted to evaluate risk ratio(RR)and95%confidence interval(CI)of combined studies for the treatment of patients with esophageal variceal bleeding between EVL and EIS.RESULTS:Fourteen studies comprising 1236 patients were included in the meta-analysis.The rebleeding rate in actively bleeding varices patients in the EVL group was significantly lower than that in the EIS group(RR=0.68,95%CI:0.57-0.81).The variceal eradication rate in actively bleeding varices patients in the EVL group was significantly higher than that in the EIS group(RR=1.06,95%CI:1.01-1.12).There was no significant difference about mortality rate between the EVL group and EIS group(RR=0.95,95%CI:0.77-1.17).The rate of complications in actively bleeding varices patients in the EVL group was significantly lower than that in the EIS group(RR=0.28,95%CI:0.13-0.58).CONCLUSION:Our meta-analysis has found that EVL is better than EIS in terms of the lower rates of rebleeding,complications,and the higher rate of variceal eradication.Therefore,EVL is the first choice for esophageal variceal bleeding.Cong Dai Wei-Xin Liu Min Jiang Ming-Jun Sun 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,8:89
2Hydrophobicity mechanism of non-smooth pattern on surface of butterfly wing显示文摘Twenty-nine species (24 genera, 6 families) of butterflies typical and common in northeast China were selected to make qualitative and quantitative studies on the pattern, hydrophobicity and hydrophobicity mechanism by means of scanning electron microscopy and contact angle measuring system. The scale surface is composed of submicro-class vertical gibbosities and horizontal links. The distance of scale is 48—91 μm, length 65—150 μm, and width 35—70 μm. The distance of submicro-class vertical gib-bosities on scale is 1.06—2.74 μm, height 200—900 nm, and width 200—840 nm. The better hydropho-bicity on the surface of butterfly wing (static contact angle 136.3°—156.6°) is contributed to the co-effects of micro-class scale and submicro-class vertical gibbosities on the wing surface. 3Surgicopathological classification of hepatic space-occupying lesions:A single-center experience with literature review显示文摘Accompanying rapid developments in hepatic surgery,the number of surgeries and identifications of histological types of primary hepatic space-occupying lesions (PHSOLs) have increased dramatically.This has led to many changes in the surgicopathological spectrum of PHSOLs,and has contributed to a theoretical basis for modern hepatic surgery and oncological pathology.Between 1982 and 2009 at the Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital (EHBH) in Shanghai,31 901 patients underwent surgery and were diagnosed as having a PHSOL.In this paper,we present an analysis of the PHSOL cases at the EHBH for this time period,along with results from a systematic literature review.We describe a surgicopathological spectrum comprising more than 100 types of PHSOLs that can be stratified into three types:tumor-like,benign,and malignant.We also stratified the PHSOLs into six subtypes derived from hepatocytes;cholangiocytes;vascular,lymphoid and hemopoietic tissues;muscular,fibrous and adipose tissues;neural and neuroendocrine tissues;and miscellaneous tissues.The present study provides a new classification system that can be used as a current reference for clinicians and pathologists to make correct diagnoses and differential diagnoses among various PHSOLs.Wen-Ming Cong Hui Dong Lu Tan Xu-Xu Sun Meng-Chao Wu 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,19:25
4Palaeogene fossil Populus leaves from Lanzhou Basin and their palaeoclimatic significance显示文摘An angiosperm compression flora is found in Palaeogene from Lanzhou Basin and the cuticular analysis of Populus davidiana Dode in the flora is carefully made. Fur-thermore, the fossil cuticles are compared with the epidermal structures of extant Populus leaves growing in different en-vironments, i.e. moist, semimoist, and semiarid to arid cli-matic regions. The present experiments indicate that mature leaves of P. davidiana show leaf size from big to small, leaf cuticles from thick to thin and anticlinal walls of epidermal cells from faintness to clarity along with the increase of lati-tudes of the plant distributions, the climatic variation from moist to arid, the annual precipitation from more to less and the annual mean temperature from high to low. The fossil P. davidiana differs from the specimens collected from Shandan in semiarid to arid climatic regions but closely resembles the Wushan leaves in a semi-moist climatic area in a lot of fea-tures. In a word, the new research may reflect that the flora lives in a semi-moist climatic environment. 5Effects of Methanol on Wettability of the Non-Smooth Surface on Butterfly Wing显示文摘The contact angles of distilled water and methanol solution on the wings of butterflies were determined by a visual contact angle measuring system.The scale structures of the wings were observed using scanning electron microscopy,The influence of the scale micro-and ultra-structure on the wettability was investigated.Results show that the contact angle of distilled water on the wing surfaces varies from 134.0° to 159.2°.High hydrophobicity is found in six species with contact angles greater than 150°.The wing surfaces of some species are not only hydrophobic but also resist the wetting by methanol solution with 55% concentration.Only two species in Parnassius can not resist the wetting because the micro-structure(spindle-like shape) and ultra-structure(pinnule-like shape) of the wing scales are remarkably different from that of other species.The concentration of methanol solution for the occurrence of spreading/wetting on the wing surfaces of different species varies from 70% to 95%.After wetting by methanol solution for 10 min,the distilled water contact angle on the wing surface increases by 0.8°-2.1°,showing the promotion of capacity against wetting by distilled water.Yan Fang Gang Sun Qian Cong Guang-hua Chen Lu-quan Ren 2008Journal of Bionic Engineering2008,5,2:19
6Molecular chaperones and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy显示文摘Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy(HIE) is a disease that occurs when the brain is subjected to hypoxia,resulting in neuronal death and neurological deficits,with a poor prognosis.The mechanisms underlying hypoxic-ischemic brain injury include excitatory amino acid release,cellular proteolysis,reactive oxygen species generation,nitric oxide synthesis,and inflammation.The molecular and cellular changes in HIE include protein misfolding,aggregation,and destruction of organelles.The apoptotic pathways activated by ischemia and hypoxia include the mitochondrial pathway,the extrinsic Fas receptor pathway,and the endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced pathway.Numerous treatments for hypoxic-ischemic brain injury caused by HIE have been developed over the last half century.Hypothermia,xenon gas treatment,the use of melatonin and erythropoietin,and hypoxic-ischemic preconditioning have proven effective in HIE patients.Molecular chaperones are proteins ubiquitously present in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes.A large number of molecular chaperones are induced after brain ischemia and hypoxia,among which the heat shock proteins are the most important.Heat shock proteins not only maintain protein homeostasis; they also exert anti-apoptotic effects.Heat shock proteins maintain protein homeostasis by helping to transport proteins to their target destinations,assisting in the proper folding of newly synthesized polypeptides,regulating the degradation of misfolded proteins,inhibiting the aggregation of proteins,and by controlling the refolding of misfolded proteins.In addition,heat shock proteins exert anti-apoptotic effects by interacting with various signaling pathways to block the activation of downstream effectors in numerous apoptotic pathways,including the intrinsic pathway,the endoplasmic reticulum-stress mediated pathway and the extrinsic Fas receptor pathway.Molecular chaperones play a key role in neuroprotection in HIE.In this review,we provide an overview of the mechanisms of HIE and discuss the various treatment strategies.Given their critical role in the disease,molecular chaperones are promising therapeutic targets for HIE.Cong Hua Wei-na Ju Hang Jin Xin Sun Gang Zhao 2017Neural Regeneration Research2017,12,1:15

10PARylation regulates stress granule dynamics, phase separation, and neurotoxicity of disease-related RNA-binding proteins显示文摘Mutations in RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) localized in ribonucleoprotein (RNP) granules, such as hnRNP A1 and TDP-43, promote aberrant protein aggregation, which is a pathological hallmark of various neurodegenerative diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Protein posttranslational modifications (PTMs) are known to 佗gulate RNP granules. In this study, we investigate the function of poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation (PARylation), an important PTM involved in DNA damage repair and cell death, in RNP granule-related neurodegeneration. We reveal that PARylation levels are a major regulator of the assembly-disassembly dynamics of RNP granules containing disease-related RBPs, hnRNP A1 and TDP-43. We find that hnRNP A1 can both be PARylated and bind to PARylated proteins or poly(ADP-ribose)(PAR). We further uncover that PARylation of hnRNP A1 at K298 controls its nucleocytoplasmic transport, whereas PAR-binding via the PAR-binding motif (PBM) of hnRNP Al regulates its association with stress granules. Moreover, we reveal that PAR not only dramatically enhances the liquid-liquid phase separation of hnRNP A1, but also promotes the co-phase separation of hnRNP A1 and TDP-43 in vitro and their interaction in vivo. Finally, both genetic and pharmacological inhibition of PARP mitigates hnRNP Al- and TDP-43-mediated neurotoxicity in cell and Drosophila models of ALS. 12A novel superhard tungsten nitride predicted by machine-learning accelerated crystal structure search显示文摘Transition metal nitrides have been suggested to have both high hardness and good thermal stability with large potential application value,but so far stable superhard transition metal nitrides have not been synthesized.Here,with our newly developed machine-learning accelerated crystal structure searching method,we designed a superhard tungsten nitride,h-WN_6,which can be synthesized at pressure around65 GPa and quenchable to ambient pressure.This h-WN_6is constructed with single-bonded armchair-like N_6rings and presents ionic-like features,which can be formulated as W^(2.4+)N_6^(2.4à).It has a band gap of1.6 e V at 0 GPa and exhibits an abnormal gap broadening behavior under pressure.Excitingly,this h-WN_6is found to be the hardest among transition metal nitrides known so far(Vickers hardness around57 GPa)and also has a very high melting temperature(around 1,900 K).Additionally,the good gravimetric(3.1 k J/g)and volumetric(28.0 k J/cm^3)energy densities make this nitrogen-rich compound a potential high-energy-density material.These predictions support the designing rules and may stimulate future experiments to synthesize superhard and high-energy-density material.Kang Xia Hao Gao Cong Liu Jianan Yuan Jian Sun Hui-Tian Wang Dingyu Xing 2018Science Bulletin2018,63,13:11
13Economic burden and its associated factors of hospitalized patients infected with A (H7N9) virus: a retrospective study in Eastern China, 2013–2014显示文摘Background:H7N9 continues to cause human infections and remains a pandemic concern.Understanding the economic impacts of this novel disease is important for making decisions on health resource allocation,including infectious disease prevention and control investment.However,there are limited data on such impacts.Methods:Hospitalized laboratory-confirmed H7N9 patients or their families in Jiangsu Province of China were interviewed.Patients’direct medical costs of hospitalization were derived from their hospital bills.A generalized linear model was employed to estimate the mean direct medical costs of patients with different characteristics.Results:The mean direct cost of hospitalization for H7N9 was estimated to be¥71060(95%CI,48180–104820),i.e.,US$10996(95%CI,7455–16220),and was¥12060(US$1861),¥136120(US$21001)and¥218610(US$33728)for those who had mild or severe symptoms or who died,respectively.The principal components of the total fees differed among patients with different disease severity,although medication fees were always the largest contributors.Disease severity,proportion of reimbursement and family member monthly average income were identified as the key factors that contributed to a patient’s direct medical cost of hospitalization.Conclusions:The direct medical costs of hospitalized patients with H7N9 are significant,and far surpass the annual per capita income of Jiangsu Province,China.The influencing factors identified should be taken into account when developing related health insurance policies and making health resource allocation.Trial registration:Not applicable.This is a survey study with no health care intervention implemented on human participants.Xiang Huo Li-Ling Chen Lei Hong Lun-Hui Xiang Fen-Yang Tang Shan-Hui Chen Qiang Gao Cong Chen Qi-gang Dai Chuan-Wu Sun Ke Xu Wen-Jun Dai Xian Qi Chang-Cheng Li Hui-Yan Yu Yin Zhou Hao-Di Huang Xing-Yang Pan Chang-sha Xu Ming-Hao Zhou Chang-Jun Bao 2016Infectious Diseases of Poverty2016,5,1:10
14High-performance PVDF-HFP based gel polymer electrolyte with a safe solvent in Li metal polymer battery显示文摘Poly(vinylidenefluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene)(PVDF-HFP)based gel polymer electrolytes are widely studied owing to their electrochemical stability and high dielectric constant.However,most gel polymer electrolytes show unsatisfied safety and interface compatibility due to excessive absorption of volatile and flammable liquid solvents.Herein,by using a safe solvent(N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone)with higher boiling(203℃)and flash points(95℃),we initiatively fabricate a flexible PVDF-HFP based gel polymer electrolyte.The obtained gel polymer electrolyte demonstrates a high ionic conductivity of 7.24×10^−4 S cm−1,an electrochemical window of 5.2 V,and a high lithium transference number of 0.57.As a result,the synthesized polymer electrolyte exhibits a capacity retention of 70%after 500 cycles at 0.5 C,and a discharge capacity of 86 mAh g−1 even at a high current rate of 10 C for LiFePO4 based Li metal batteries.Moreover,a stable Li plating/stripping for more than 500 h is achieved under 0.1 mAh at both room temperature and 70℃.Our results indicate that the PVDF-HFP polymer electrolyte is promising for manufacturing safe and high-performance Li metal polymer batteries.Jing Jie Yulong Liu Lina Cong Bohao Zhang Wei Lu Xinming Zhang Jun Liu Haiming Xie Liqun Sun 2020Journal of Energy Chemistry2020,29,10:10

18Comparison of cryoballoon ablation for atrial fibrillation guided by real-time three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography vs. contrast agent injection显示文摘Background:Pulmonary vein (PV) occlusion generally depends on repetitive contrast agent injection when cryoballoon ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF). The present study was to compare the effect of cryoballoon ablation for AF guided by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) vs. contrast agent injection.Methods:Eighty patients with paroxysmal AF (PAF) were enrolled in the study. About 40 patients underwent cryoballoon ablation without TEE (non-TEE group) and the other 40 underwent cryoballoon ablation with TEE for PV occlusion (TEE group). In the TEE group during the procedure, PVs were displayed in 3-dimensional images to guide the balloon to achieve PV occlusion. The patients were followed up at regularly scheduled visits every 2 months.Results:No differences were identified between the groups in regard to the procedure time and cryoablation time for each PV. The fluoroscopy time (6.7±4.2 min vs. 17.9±5.9 min, P<0.05) and the amount of contrast agent (3.0±5.1 mL vs.18.1±3.4 mL, P<0.05) in the TEE group were both less than the non-TEE group. At a mean of 13.0±3.3 mon follow-up, success rates were similar between the TEE group and non-TEE group (77.5% vs. 80.0%, P=0.88).Conclusions:Cryoballoon ablation with TEE for occlusion of the PV is both safe and effective. 19Expanded endoscopic therapy criteria should be cautiously used in intramucosal gastric cancer显示文摘Objective: Accurate estimation of lymph node metastasis(LNM) in intramucosal gastric cancer is essential to select less invasive treatment options and even avoid surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate combined clinicopathological features to predict the presence of LNM.Methods: A retrospective review of data from 386 intramucosal gastric cancer patients who underwent gastrectomy with extended lymphadenectomy from 2003 to 2010 was conducted. The mutual relation between clinicopathological characteristics and LNM was analyzed.Results: LNM was detected in 40(10.4%) of the 386 patients. Histological type and vascular or lymphatic invasion presence showed a positive correlation with LNM occurrence by univariate analysis. Multivariate analysis revealed that histological type was the only factor associated with LNM. Combined clinicopathologic characteristics would be more predictable for LNM. We found no LNM when we used combined clinicopathological characteristics conforming to Japanese absolute indications for endoscopic therapy. The LNM rate was as high as 8.7% when Japanese expanded criteria were used. Univariate analysis in cancer conformity to expand endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) indication also revealed that the undifferential type was the only significant factor for LNM.Conclusions: It was possible to predict intramucosal gastric cancer cases without LNM using combined clinicopathological characteristic analysis. 20Identification of biomarkers for hepatocellular carcinoma by semiquantitative immunocytochemistry显示文摘AIM:To investigate the expression of key biomarkers in hepatoma cell lines,tumor cells from patients’blood samples,and tumor tissues.METHODS:We performed the biomarker tests in two steps.First,cells plated on coverslips were used to assess biomarkers,and fluorescence intensities were calculated using the NIH Image J software.The measured values were analyzed using the SPSS19.0 software to make comparisons among eight cell lines.Second,eighty-four individual samples were used to assess the biomarkers’expression.Negative enrichment of the blood samples was performed,and karyocytes were isolated and dropped onto pretreated glass slides for further analysis by immunofluorescence staining.Fluorescence intensities were compared among hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients,chronic HBV-infected patients,and healthy controls following methods similar to those used for cell lines.The relationships between the expression of biomarkers and clinical pathological parameters were analyzed by Spearman rank correlation tests.In addition,we studied the distinct biomarkers’expression with three-dimensional laser confocal microscopy reconstructions,and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed to understand the clinical significance of these biomarkers.RESULTS:Microscopic examination and fluorescence intensity calculations indicated that cytokeratin 8/18/19(CK)expression was significantly higher in six of the seven HCC cell lines examined than in the control cells,and the expression levels of asialoglycoprotein receptor(ASGPR)and glypican-3(GPC3)were higher in all seven HCC cell lines than in the control.Cells obtained from HCC patients’blood samples also displayed significantly higher expression levels of ASGPR,GPC3,and CK than cells from chronic HBV-infected patients or healthy controls;these proteins may be valuable surface biomarkers for identifying HCC circulating tumor cells isolated and enriched from the blood samples.The stem cell-like and epithelial-mesenchymal transition-related biomarkers could be detected on the karyocyte slides.ASGPR and GPC3 were expressed at high levels,and thus three-dimensional reconstructions were used to observe their expression in detail.This analysis indicated that GPC3 was localized in the cytoplasm and membrane,but that ASGPR had a polar localization.Survival analyses showed that expression of GPC3 and ASGPR is associated with a patient’s overall survival(OS).CONCLUSION:ASGPR,GPC3,and CK may be valuable HCC biomarkers for CTC detection;the expression of ASGPR and GPC3 might be helpful for understanding patients’OS.Hong Mu Kai-Xuan Lin Hong Zhao Shu Xing Cong Li Fang Liu Hai-Zhen Lu Ze Zhang Yu-Lin Sun Xi-Yun Yan Jian-Qiang Cai Xiao-Hang Zhao 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,19:8
