| 1 | Changes in China’s lakes: climate and human impacts显示文摘Lakes have played a critical role in providing water and ecosystem services for people and other organisms in China for millennia.However,accelerating climate change and economic boom have resulted in unprecedented changes in these valuable lakes.Using Landsat images covering the entity of the country,we explored the changes in China’s lakes and the associated driving forces over the last 30 years(i.e.mid-1980 s to 2015).We discovered that China’s lakes have changed with divergent regional trends:in the sparsely populated Tibetan Plateau,lakes are abundant and the lake area has increased dramatically from 38596 to46831 km^2(i.e.increased by 8235 km^2,or 21.3%),whereas,in the densely populated northern and eastern regions,lakes are relatively scarce and the lake area has decreased from 36659 to 33657 km^2(i.e.decreased by 3002 km^2,or 8.2%).In particular,severe lake decreases occurred in the Mongolia-Xinjiang Plateau and the Eastern Plain(-2151 km^2).Statistical analyses indicated that climate was the most important factor controlling lake changes in the Tibetan Plateau,the Yun-Gui Plateau and the Northeast Plain.However,the strength of climatic control on lake changes was low in the Eastern Plain and the Mongolia-Xinjiang Plateau,where human activities,e.g.impoldering,irrigation and mining,have caused serious impacts on lakes.Further lake changes will exacerbate regional imbalances between lake resources and population distribution,and thus may increase the risk of water-resource crises in China. | Shengli Tao Jingyun Fang Suhui Ma Qiong Cai Xinyu Xiong Di Tian Xia Zhao Leqi Fang Heng Zhang Jiangling Zhu Shuqing Zhao | 2020 | National Science Review2020,7,1: | 14 |
| 2 | Identification and Typing of Respiratory Adenoviruses in Guangzhou, Southern China Using a Rapid and Simple Method显示文摘Human adenoviruses (HAdVs), especially HAdV-B3, -E4 and -B7, are associated with Acute Respiratory Disease in Chinese children, and occasionally in adults. In order to establish and document the profiles of the respiratory adenovirus pathogen among children in Guangzhou, Southern China, a rapid, simple and practical method for identification and typing of respiratory adenoviruses was developed and evaluated. One pair of universal PCR primers was designed according to the conserved region of the hexon gene, which can detect not only HAdV-B3, -E4 and -B7, but also HAdV-B14, -F40 and -F41, with a specific 300bp PCR product. Three pairs of type-specific PCR primers were also designed according to the hypervariable regions of the hexon gene to type HAdV-B3, -E4 and -B7 by three independent PCR reactions, making it easy to optimize the PCR conditions. By using this method, one hundred throat swab specimens collected during Oct 2010 to Dec 2011 and suspected of being positive for adenoviral infection were identified and typed for adenoviruses. Of these samples, fifty-five were adenovirus-positive. The most common HAdV type was HAdV-B3, identified in 92.7% of samples, which is not only consistent with the data reported in 2004-2006, but also consistent with the recent report in Hangzhou, eastern China, indicating that HAdV-B3 has been circulating in Guangzhou, and maybe in eastern China, for many years. | 3 | Family-level leaf nitrogen and phosphorus stoichiometry of global terrestrial plants显示文摘Leaf nitrogen(N) and phosphorus(P) concentrations are critical for photosynthesis, growth, reproduction and other ecological processes of plants. Previous studies on large-scale biogeographic patterns of leaf N and P stoichiometric relationships were mostly conducted using data pooled across taxa, while family/genus-level analyses are rarely reported. Here, we examined global patterns of family-specific leaf N and P stoichiometry using a global data set of 12,716 paired leaf N and P records which includes 204 families, 1,305 genera, and 3,420 species. After determining the minimum size of samples(i.e., 35 records), we analyzed leaf N and P concentrations, N:P ratios and N^P scaling relationships of plants for 62 families with 11,440 records. The numeric values of leaf N and P stoichiometry varied significantly across families and showed diverse trends along gradients of mean annual temperature(MAT) and mean annual precipitation(MAP). The leaf N and P concentrations and N:P ratios of 62 families ranged from 6.11 to 30.30 mg g–1, 0.27 to 2.17 mg g–1, and 10.20 to 35.40, respectively. Approximately 1/3–1/2 of the families(22–35 of 62) showed a decrease in leaf N and P concentrations and N:P ratios with increasing MAT or MAP, while the remainder either did not show a significant trend or presented the opposite pattern. Family-specific leaf N^P scaling exponents did not converge to a certain empirical value, with a range of 0.307–0.991 for 54 out of 62 families which indicated a significant N^P scaling relationship. Our results for the first time revealed large variation in the family-level leaf N and P stoichiometry of global terrestrial plants and that the stoichiometric relationships for at least one-third of the families were not consistent with the global trends reported previously. | 9 | Sub-diffraction-limit cell imaging using a super-resolution microscope with simplified pulse synchronization显示文摘Stimulated emission depletion(STED) microscope is one of the most prominent super-resolution bio-imaging instruments, which holds great promise for ultrahigh-resolution imaging of cells. To construct a STED microscope, it is challenging to realize temporal synchronization between the excitation pulses and the depletion pulses. In this study, we present a simple and low-cost method to achieve pulse synchronization by using a condensed fluorescent dye as a depletion indicator. By using this method, almost all the confocal microscopes can be upgraded to a STED system without losing its original functions. Previous study showed that both the stacking and the property of the aromatic resi-due affect hydrophobicity of the heme pocket, leading to change of protein抯 property. In order to further reveal the essence we esterify the heme propionate of Cyt b5, F58Y and F58W, and eliminate the hydrogen bond between heme propionate and Ser64 in examining the effect of hydrogen net on the p-p interaction. In this paper thermal denaturation of DME-Cyt b5 and its F58Y and F58W mutants has been stud-ied by UV-visible and CD spectra. The heme transfer reac-tions between these proteins and apo-myoglobin have been studied as well. | 19 | 早期宫颈癌(Ⅰb-Ⅱa期)预后相关因素的回顾性分析(英文)显示文摘Objective: To estimate the impact of parametrial infiltration and lymph node metastasis on clinical outcome in women with early-stage cervical cancer following radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy. Methods: Clinical records and pathologic slides of 532 patients with early-stage cervical cancer (330 Ib and 202 IIa) treated with radical hyster- ectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy were reviewed. The study group comprised 520 patients with squamous cell carcinoma and 12 patients with adenocarcinoma of the cervix. Median follow-up time was 67 months. The association among the various histopathologic predictors of outcome was determined with analysis. The influence of the predictors on outcome was examined with log rank survival methods and the Cox regression model. Results: FIGO stage, histologic type, tumor size, depth of invasion, parametrial infiltration, lymph node metastasis, and remote metastasis were identified as significantly biologically relevant and therefore were included as candidate predictors in multivariate analysis. In particular, parametrial infiltration and lymph node metastasis were found to be simultaneous predictors of death on multivariate analysis (P < 0.05). After controlling for these two factors, the other variables considered were not statistically significant up to a two-way interaction. Conclusion: Presence of parametrial infiltration and/or lymph node metastasis in women with early-stage cervical cancer is an independent poor prognostic factor. | 20 | Demonstration of thermal modulation using nanoscale and microscale structures for ultralarge pixel array photothermal transducers显示文摘Large-pixel-array infrared emitters are attractive in the applications of infrared imaging and detection.However,the array scale has been restricted in traditional technologies.Here,we demonstrated a light-driven photothermal transduction approach for an ultralarge pixel array infrared emitter.A metal-black coating with nanoporous structures and a silicon(Si)layer with microgap structures were proposed to manage the thermal input and output issues.The effects of the nanoscale structures in the black coating and microscale structures in the Si layer were investigated.Remarkable thermal modulation could be obtained by adjusting the nanoscale and microscale structures.The measured stationary and transient results of the fabricated photothermal transducers agreed well with the simulated results.From the input view,due to its wide spectrum and high absorption,the black coating with nanoscale structures contributed to a 5.6-fold increase in the temperature difference compared to that without the black coating.From the output view,the microgap structures in the Si layer eliminated the in-plane thermal crosstalk.The temperature difference was increased by 340%by modulating the out-of-plane microstructures.The proposed photothermal transducer had a rising time of 0.95 ms and a falling time of 0.53 ms,ensuring a fast time response.This method is compatible with low-cost and mass manufacturing and has promising potential to achieve ultralarge-array pixels beyond ten million. | Jinying Zhang Defang Li Zhuo Li Xin Wang Suhui Yang | 2021 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2021,7,6: | 1 |
