| 1 | Plant Small RNAs: Biogenesis, Mode of Action and Their Roles in Abiotic Stresses显示文摘Small RNAs (sRNAs) are 18-30 nt non-coding regulatory elements found in diverse organisms, which were initially identified as small double-stranded RNAs in Caenorhabditis elegans. With the development of new and improved technologies, sRNAs have also been identified and characterized in plant systems. Among them, micro RNAs (miRNAs) and small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) are found to be very important riboregulators in plants. Various types of sRNAs differ in their mode of biogenesis and in their function of gene regulation. sRNAs are involved in gene regulation at both transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. They are known to regulate growth and development of plants. Furthermore, sRNAs especially plant miRNAs have been found to be involved in various stress responses, such as oxidative, mineral nutrient deficiency, dehydration, and even mechanical stimulus. | 2 | Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis causes Crohn's disease in some inflammatory bowel disease patients显示文摘Crohn’s disease(CD)is a chronic inflammatory condition that plagues millions all over the world.This debilitating bowel disease can start in early childhood and continue into late adulthood.Signs and symptoms are usually many and multiple tests are often required for the diagnosis and confirmation of this disease.However,little is still understood about the cause(s)of CD.As a result,several theories have been proposed over the years.One theory in particular is that Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis(MAP)is intimately linked to the etiology of CD.This fastidious bacterium also known to cause Johne’s disease in cattle has infected the intestines of animals for years.It is believed that due to the thick,waxy cell wall of MAP it is able to survive the process of pasteurization as well as chemical processes seen in irrigation purification systems.Subsequently meat,dairy products and water serve as key vehicles in the transmission of MAP infection to humans(from farm to fork)who have a genetic predisposition,thus leading to the development of CD.The challenges faced in culturing this bacterium from CD are many.Examples include its extreme slow growth,lack of cell wall,low abundance,and its mycobactin dependency.In this review article,data from 60 studies showing the detection and isolation of MAP by PCR and culture techniques have been reviewed.Although this review may not be 100%comprehensive of all studies,clearly the majority of the studies overwhelmingly and definitively support the role of MAP in at least30%-50%of CD patients.It is very possible that lack of detection of MAP from some CD patients may be due to the absence of MAP role in these patients.The latter statement is conditional on utilization of methodology appropriate for detection of human MAP strains.Ultimately,stratification of CD and inflammatory bowel disease patients for the presence or absence of MAP is necessary for appropriate and effective treatment which may lead to a cure. | Saleh A Naser Sudesh R Sagramsingh Abed S Naser Saisathya Thanigachalam | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014，20，23： | 9 |

| 5 | Identification of miR414 and Expression Analysis of Conserved miRNAs from Stevia rebaudiana显示文摘MicroRNAs (miRNAs) usually contain 19-24 nucleotides and have been identified as important eukaryotic gene regulators. Applications of various computational approaches have simplified the task by predicting miRNAs from available sequence data sources. In this study, we identified a conserved miR414 from a computational analysis of EST sequence data available from Stevia rebaudiana. In addition, we also identified six conserved miRNAs namely miR169, miR319, miR414, miR164, miR167 and miR398 using stem-loop RT-PCR analysis. Hence, miR414 was commonly identified using both methods. The expression analysis of these miRNAs documented their roles in growth and development of Stevia. Furthermore, the detected miRNAs were found to target genes involved in plant growth, development, metabolism and signal transduction. | 6 | Hepatoprotective and antioxidant activity of Bombax ceiba flowers against carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatotoxicity in rats显示文摘Aim:The flowers of Bombax ceiba are traditionally used as home remedy in the treatment of jaundice and spleen enlargement.The present work investigated the effect of aqueous extract of flowers of Bombax ceiba(BCAE)on experimentally induced hepatotoxicity in rats to substantiate its traditional use as hepatoprotective agent.Methods:Hepatotoxicity was induced in rats by carbon tetrachloride(CCl_(4))treatment;at the same time vehicle or BCAE(250 or 500 mg/kg)or silymarin(25 mg/kg)were administered daily orally for seven days.Hepatotoxicity was assessed by estimating the activities of marker enzymes and by histological studies.The antioxidant effect of BCAE was assessed by measuring amount of antioxidant phytochemicals(total phenolics and flavonoids),and DPPH free radical scavenging assay of the extract.Results:BCAE treatment significantly prevented the CCl_(4)-induced elevations in levels of glutamate oxaloacatate transaminase,glutamic pyruvic transaminase,alkaline phosphatase,bilirubin,and triglycerides,and decreased the total protein levels.Treatment with BCAE attenuated the CCl_(4)-induced cytotoxic damage to liver.BCAE exhibited presence of antioxidant phytochemicals and showed scavanging action on DPPH radicals.The hepatoprotective effect of BCAE was comparable to that of the standard antioxidant hepatoprotective agent,silymarin.These findings indicated that BCAE showed hepatoprotective effect against CCl_(4)-induced hepatotoxicity and exhibited in vitro antioxidant effects.Conclusion:Bombax ceiba flowers exhibited hepatoprotective effect which may be attributed to antioxidant potential.This study also validated their traditional medicinal use in liver disorders. | Manish M.Wanjari Rachna Gangoria Yadu Nandan Dey Sudesh N.Gaidhani Narendra K.Pandey Ankush D.Jadhav | 2016 | Hepatoma Research2016，2，1： | 3 |
