1Influence of bank vegetation and gravel bed on velocity and Reynolds stress distributions显示文摘This paper presents the results of a laboratory flume experimental study on the interaction of bank vegetation and gravel bed on the flow velocity(primarily on the location of the maximum velocity,Umax) and the Reynolds stress distributions. The results reveal that the dip of the maximum velocity below the water surface is up to 35% of flow depth and the difference between Umax and the velocity at the water surface is considerable in the presence of vegetation on the walls. The zone of the log-law varies from y/h=2 up to 15 percent of flow depth and it does not depend on distance from the wall. Deviation of the velocity profile in the outer layer over a gravel bed with vegetation cover on the walls is much larger than the case of flow over a gravel bed without vegetation cover on the walls. The presence of vegetation on the walls changes uniform flow to non-uniform flow. This fact can be explained by considering the nonlinear Reynolds stress distribution and location of maximum velocity in each profile at different distances across the flume. The Reynolds stress distributions at the distance 0.02 m from the wall have negative values and away from the wall,they change the sign taking positive values with specific convex form with apex in higher location. Average of von Karman constant κ for this study is equal to 0.16. 3EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON INCIPIENT MOTION OF SEDIMENT PARTICLES ON GENERALIZED SLOPING FLUVIAL BEDS显示文摘This paper presents an experimental investigation on incipient motion of non-cohesive uniform sediment under a steady-uniform stream flow on generalized sloping fluvial beds (combined lateral and stream-wise slope). The characteristic parameters affecting the incipient motion of sediment particles, identified based on the physical reasoning and dimensional analysis, are the threshold shear stress ratio (ratio of threshold shear stress for sloping bed to that for horizontal bed), lateral slope, stream-wise slope and angle of repose of sediment particles. Experiments were carried out in two ducts (closed-conduit flow) having section of semicircular invert with three types of sediments. In an open channel flow (laboratory flume study), the uniform flow is a difficult, if not impossible, proposition for a steeply sloping channel and is impossible to obtain in an adversely sloping channel. To avoid this problem, the tests were conducted with a closed-conduit flow. Equation of critical bed shear stress for the initial movement of sediment particles on generalized sloping beds was obtained using the experimental data.Subhasish DEY Asst. 4软熔过程中烧结矿和块矿的交互作用显示文摘为更好地明晰块矿的软熔行为并优化其在高炉内的使用,以烧结矿和澳大利亚纽曼混合块矿为研究对象,分别就两者在软熔过程中的物理和化学交互作用进行了试验研究。通过使用中子CT扫描软熔试验试样,发现1 450℃时烧结矿与纽曼混合块矿的混合炉料孔隙度要高于两者单一炉料,即两者间存在着物理交互作用;通过采用扫描电镜和电子探针分析发现,1 200~1 300℃温度范围内烧结矿中钙和镁扩散到了块矿中,两者发生了明显的化学交互作用。在物理和化学交互共同作用下,配加约20%纽曼混合块矿的混合炉料软熔行为得到了明显改善,且其性能相似或略好于同碱度的单一烧结矿炉料,这表明块矿和烧结矿混合后能在高炉内形成温度区间更窄、位置更低、透气性更好的软熔带。刘新亮 HONEYANDS Tom O′DEA Damien MITRA Subhasish CHEN Jeff 邱光君 2019钢铁2019,54,12:7

6VORTEX FLOW FIELD IN A SCOUR HOLE AROUND ABUTMENTS显示文摘The three-dimensional flow field in a scour hole around different abutments under a clear water regime was experimentally measured in a laboratory flume, using the Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV). Three types of abutments used in the experiments were vertical-wall (rectangular section), 45° wing-wall (45° polygonal section) and semicircular. The threedimensional time-averaged velocity components were detected at different vertical planes for vertical-wall abutment and azimuthal planes for wing-wall and semicircular abutments. The velocity components were also measured at different horizontal planes. In the upstream, presentations of flow field through vector plots at vertical / azimuthal and horizontal planes show the existence of a primary vortex associated with the downflow inside the scour hole. On the other hand, in the downstream, the flow field shows a reversed flow near the abutments having a subsequent recovery with a passage of flow as a part of the main flow. 7Predictors of mortality among HIV-infected patients initiating anti retroviral therapy at a tertiary care hospital in Eastern India显示文摘Objective:To assess early mortality and identify its predictors among the ART naive HIV-infected patients initiating anti retroviral therapy(ART) available free of cost at the ART Centres. Methods:A retrospective cohort analysis of routinely collected programme data was done for assessing mortality of all ART naive adult patients who received first-line ART at a government tertiary care hospital in eastern India during 1st March 2009 and 28th February 2010.Bivariate and multiple regression analyses of the baseline demographic,clinical and laboratory records using SPSS 15.0 were done to identify independent predictors of mortality.Results:The mortality rate at one year was estimated to be 7.66(95%CI 5.84-9.83) deaths/100 patient-years and more than 50%of the deaths occurred during first three months of ART initiation with a median time interval of 73 days.Tuberculosis was the major cause of death.ART naive patients with baseline serum albumin <3.5 mg/dL were eight(OR 7.9;95%CI:3.8-16.5) at risk of death than those with higher serum albumin levels and patients with CD4 count <I00 cells/μL were two times(OR 2.2; 95%CI:1.1-4.4) at risk of death compared to higher CD4 counts.Conclusions:Risk of mortality is increased when ART is initiated at advanced stages of immunosuppression denoted by low serum albumin levels and CD4 cell counts.This highlights the importance of early detection of HIV infection,early management of opportunistic infections including tuberculosis and timely initiation of the antiretroviral drugs in the resource-limited countries,now available free in the Indian national ART programme.Ananya Bhowmik Subhasis Bhandari Rajyasree De Subhasish Kamal Guha 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,12:3
8Suspended load in flows on erodible bed显示文摘Steady state suspended-load of sediment transported in flow over erodible beds usually is treated by the advection-diffusion approach, though in recent years, it is being treated as a two-phase flow phenomenon incorporating kinetics of sediment particles. Among the advection-diffusion approaches, Rouse's equation is the well-known, although a number of researchers in later periods have attempted to improve it by modifying the mixing length concept taking into account other aspects. In this paper, the advection-diffusion approach and associated logarithmic law of flow velocity are revisited. It is concluded from the logarithmic law that the Reynolds shear stress is a linear function of height above the bed, which reduces to bed shear stress in the case of a long horizontal channel. As a consequence, it is shown that the volumetric concentration of sediment is best approximated by the sum of two power laws of height above the bed. 9Circulation characteristics of horseshoe vortex in scour region around circular piers显示文摘This paper presents an experimental investigation of the circulation of the horseshoe vortex system within the equilibrium scour hole at a circular pier, with the data measured by an acoustic Doppler velocimeter (ADV). Velocity vector plots and vorticity contours of the flow field on the upstream plane of symmetry (y = 0 cm) and on the planes ±3 cm away from the plane of symmetry (y = ±3 cm) are presented. The vorticity and circulation of the horseshoe vortices were determined using the forward difference technique and Stokes theorem, respectively. The results show that the magnitudes of circulations are similar on the planes y = 3 cm and y = -3 cm, which are less than those on the plane y = 0 cm. The circulation decreases with the increase of flow shallowness, and increases with the densimetric Froude number. It also increases with the pier Reynolds number at a constant densimetric Froude number, or at a constant flow shallowness. The relative vortex strength (dimensionless circulation) decreases with the increase of the pier Reynolds number. Some empirical equations are proposed based on the results. 10REVIEW ON LOCAL SCOUR DUE TO JETS显示文摘The safety of an apron of the energy dissipator is threatened by the large-scale scour in the downstream of the apron due to the erosive action of a horizontal jet issuing from a sluice opening. Also, large-scale deposition of the scoured sediments due to an impinging jet in a plunging pool type energy dissipator affects the passage of flow adversely in the downstream channels. Owing to the significant practical importance, the problem of local scour due to jets has been studied by many investigators. 14INITIATION OF SHELL MOTION ON SAND BEDS: AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY显示文摘Experimental study on initiation of bivalve shell motion on a horizontal sand bed, under a unidirectional flow of water, is presented. Experiments were carried out in a flume with three types of bivalve shells, namely Coquina Clam, Cross-barred Chione and Ponderous Ark, to test the condition for initiation of motion. The shape parameters of bivalve shells are defined appropriately. Experiments were conducted in a flume with a horizontal bed, and the critical shear stresses were estimated using Vanoni’s side-wall correction. The characteristic parameters affecting the initiation of shell motion on a horizontal bed in rough-turbulent regime identified based on the physical reasoning and dimensional analysis are the Shields parameter (nondimensional critical shear stress), nondimensional competent mean velocity, nondimensional sand roughness, nondimensional flow depth and shape parameter. 18FLOW FIELD IN SCOURED ZONE OF CHANNEL CONTRACTIONS显示文摘Experiments were conducted in a laboratory flume to measure the two-dimensional turbulent flow field in the scoured zone of channel contractions under a clear-water scour condition. The Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) was used to detect the flow field at different vertical lines along the centerline of uncontracted (main channel) and contracted zones of the channel. The distributions of time-averaged velocity components, turbulent intensity, turbulent kinetic energy, and Reynolds stresses are presented in nondimensional graphical form. The bed shear stresses are computed from the measured Reynolds stresses being in threshold condition within the zone of contraction where bed was scoured. The data presented in this paper would be useful to the investigators for the development of kinematic flow model and morphological model of scour at a channel or river contraction.Rajkumar V.
