3Retinopathy of prematurity: Past, present and future显示文摘Retinopathy of prematurity(ROP) is a vasoproliferative disorder of the retina occurring principally in new born preterm infants. It is an avoidable cause of childhood blindness. With the increase in the survival of preterm babies, ROP has become the leading cause of preventable childhood blindness throughout the world. A simple screening test done within a few weeks after birth by an ophthalmologist can avoid this preventable blindness. Although screening guidelines and protocols are strictly followed in the developed nations, it lacks in developing economies like India and China, which have the highest number of preterm deliveries in the world. The burden of this blindness in these countries is set to increase tremendously in the future, if corrective steps are not taken immediately. ROP first emerged in 1940 s and 1950 s, when it was called retrolental fibroplasia. Several epidemics of this disease were and are still occurring in different regions of the world and since then a lot of research has been done on this disease. However, till date very few comprehensive review articles covering all the aspects of ROP are published. This review highlights the past, present and future strategies in managing this disease. 5Synthesis and Characterization of Bio-based Epoxy Blends from Renewable Resource Based Epoxidized Soybean Oil as Reactive Diluent显示文摘A novel bioresin, epoxidized soybean oil was synthesized by in situ method and was characterized employing FTIR and NMR. The bioresin was blended with epoxy(DGEBA) at different ratios as reactive diluents for improved processibility and toughened nature. The composition with 20 wt% bioresin exhibited improved impact strength to the tune of 60% as compared to virgin epoxy. Fracture toughness parameters critical stress intensity factor(KIC) and critical strain energy release rate(GIC) were evaluated using single edge notch bending test and demonstrated superior enhancement in toughness. Dynamic mechanical, thermal, thermo mechanical and fracture morphological analyses have been studied for bio-based epoxy blends. 6Clinical Validation of Global Coagulation Tests to Guide Blood Component Transfusions in Cirrhosis and ACLF显示文摘Background and Aims:Patients with cirrhosis and acuteon-chronic liver failure(ACLF)may have bleeding complications and need for invasive procedures.Point-of-care(POC)coagulation tests like thromboelastography(TEG)and Sonoclot may be better for guiding patient management than the standard coagulation tests(SCTs),like prothrombin time,platelet count and international normalized ratio.Methods:We prospectively compared and validated the POC tests and SCTs in 70 persons with ACLF and 72 persons with decompensated cirrhosis who had clinical bleeding and checked for episodes of re-bleeding and transfusion requirements.We assessed pre-procedure requirement of blood components when correction was done based on an SCT or POC strategy.Results:Episodes of bleeding were seen in 45%and 28%of ACLF and cirrhosis patient,respectively(p=0.036),with the major site of bleeding being gastrointestinal(31%and 16%,respectively).Platelet counts correlated with TEG-maximum amplitude in cirrhosis(p=0.045)and prothrombin time correlated positively with TEG-reaction(R)time(p=0.032),TEG-Clot kinetics(K)time(p=0.042),Son-activated clotting time(p=0.038)and negatively with clot rate(p=0.043)in ACLF,making these correctable target variables in POC transfusion algorithms.Of 223 procedures,transfusion of fresh frozen plasma and platelet concentrate was reduced by 25%(p=0.035)and 20.8%(p=0.045)by using a POC strategy in 76 patients.Correction of deranged Son-activated clotting time and TEG-reaction time was noted in 68%and 72%after 24 h of fresh frozen plasma transfusion in ACLF and 85%and 80%in cirrhosis,respectively.Conclusions:Our study clinically validates that POC tests can better detect coagulation defects and transfusion thresholds in ACLF and cirrhosis,whereas use of conventional tests appear to be less suitable in patients with clinical bleeding.Trial Registration:NCT04332484.Madhumita Premkumar Rohit Mehtani Smita Divyaveer Kamal Kajal Anand VKulkarni Syed Ahmed Harmanpreet Kaur Harpreet Kaur Radhakrishna Dhiman Ajay Duseja Arka De 2021Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2021,9,2:7

10Congenital pulmonary airway malformation: A report of two cases显示文摘Congenital pulmonary airway malformation(CPAM), previously known as congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation is a congenital disorder of the lung similar to bronchopulmonary sequestration. In CPAM, usually an entire lobe of lung is replaced by a non-working cystic piece of abnormal lung tissue. This abnormal tissue will never function as normal lung tissue. The underlying cause for CPAM is not known. It occurs in approximately 1 in every 30000 pregnancies. The association between CPAM and malignancy has been well documented. There is a small risk(0.7%) of malignant transformation within the cyst. So early diagnosis and surgical resection is important to prevent the grave complications. 11Evaluation of antiinflammatory activity of Tephrosia purpurea in rats显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antiinflammatory activity of orally administered ethanolic extract of Tephrosia purpurea in acute and subacute inflammation in rats.Methods:An ethanolic extract of Tephrosia purpurea was prepared.Carrageenan induced paw edema and cotton pellet granuloma were the models for acute and subacute inflammation respectively.Four groups of rats in each model were treated orally with 2%gum acacia,100 mg /kg of aspirin,500 mg/kg and 1 000 mg/kg of ethanolic extract of Tephrosia purpurea respectively.In carrageenan induced paw edema model, subplantar injection of 1%carrageenan was made into the hind paw of the rats sixty minutes after the administration of the respective drugs.The paw volume was measured immediately after injection of carrageenan,at 3 hours and at 6 hours.Then percentage inhibition of edema was calculated.In the cotton pellet granuloma model,animals were administered drugs for six days after placing cotton pellets in the axilla on each side.On the 7th day,dry weight of granuloma was calculated.Results:The rats treated with Tephrosia purpurea did not exhibit any significant decrease in paw volume and serum ceruloplasmin levels as compared to the control and aspirin treated groups in the acute inflammation model;while,there was a significant(P < 0.01) decrease in the weight of granuloma in Tephrosia purpurea and aspirin treated groups as compared to control in subacute inflammation.Conclusions:The ethanolic extract of orally administered Tephrosia purpurea shows significant antiinflammatory effect in subacute inflammation but not in acute inflammation in rats.Shenoy Smita Shwetha K Prabhu K Maradi R Bairy KL Shanbhag T 2010Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,3:5
12Antimicrobial metabolites from marine microorganisms显示文摘Marine ecological niches have recently been described as 'particularly promising' sources for search of new antimicrobials to combat antibiotic-resistant strains of pathogenic microorganisms. Marine organisms are excellent sources for many industrial products, but they are partly explored. Over 30 000 compounds have been isolated from marine sources. Bacteria, fungi, and cyanobacteria obtained from various marine sources secret several industrially useful bioactive compounds, possessing antibacterial, antifungal, and antimycobacterial activities. Sustainable cultivation methods for promising marine organisms and biotechnological processes for selected compounds can be developed, along with the establishment of biosensors for monitoring the target compounds. The semisynthetic modifications of marine-based bioactive compounds produce their new derivatives, structural analogs and mimetics that could serve as novel lead compounds against resistant pathogens. 14Correlation of pattern reversal visual evoked potential parameters with the pattern standard deviation in primary open angle glaucoma显示文摘AIM:To evaluate whether glaucomatous visual field defect particularly the pattern standard deviation(PSD)of Humphrey visual field could be associated with visual evoked potential(VEP)parameters of patients having primary open angle glaucoma(POAG).METHODS:Visual field by Humphrey perimetry and simultaneous recordings of pattern reversal visual evoked potential(PRVEP)were assessed in 100 patients with POAG.The stimulus configuration for VEP recordings consisted of the transient pattern reversal method in which a black and white checker board pattern was generated(full field)and displayed on VEP monitor(colour 14')by an electronic pattern regenerator inbuilt in an evoked potential recorder(RMS EMG EP MARK II).RESULTS:The results of our study indicate that there is a highly significant(P<0.001)negative correlation of P100 amplitude and a statistically significant(P<0.05)positive correlation of N70 latency,P100 latency and N155 latency with the PSD of Humphrey visual field in the subjects of POAG in various age groups as evaluated by Student's t-test.CONCLUSION:Prolongation of VEP latencies were mirrored by a corresponding increase of PSD values.Conversely,as PSD increases the magnitude of VEP excursions were found to be diminished.Ruchi Kothari Pradeep Bokariya Ramji Singh Smita Singh Purvasha Narang 2014International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2014,7,2:3

16Status of precision medicine approaches to traumatic brain injury显示文摘Traumatic brain injury(TBI)is a serious condition in which trauma to the head causes damage to the brain,leading to a disruption in brain function.This is a significant health issue worldwide,with around 69 million people suffering from TBI each year.Immediately following the trauma,damage occurs in the acute phase of injury that leads to the primary outcomes of the TBI.In the hours-to-days that follow,secondary damage can also occur,leading to chronic outcomes.TBIs can range in severity from mild to severe,and can be complicated by the fact that some individuals sustain multiple TBIs,a risk factor for worse long-term outcomes.Although our knowledge about the pathophysiology of TBI has increased in recent years,unfortunately this has not been translated into effective clinical therapies.The U.S.Food and Drug Administration has yet to approve any drugs for the treatment of TBI;current clinical treatment guidelines merely offer supportive care.Outcomes between individuals greatly vary,which makes the treatment for TBI so challenging.A blow of similar force can have only mild,primary outcomes in one individual and yet cause severe,chronic outcomes in another.One of the reasons that have been proposed for this differential response to TBI is the underlying genetic differences across the population.Due to this,many researchers have begun to investigate the possibility of using precision medicine techniques to address TBI treatment.In this review,we will discuss the research detailing the identification of genetic risk factors for worse outcomes after TBI,and the work investigating personalized treatments for these higher-risk individuals.We highlight the need for further research into the identification of higher-risk individuals and the development of personalized therapies for TBI.Sahithi Reddi Smita Thakker-Varia Janet Alder Anna O.Giarratana 2022Neural Regeneration Research2022,17,10:3

Methods 426 students who met the inclusion criteria were recruited from 11 th and 12th grade classes from Kendriya Vidyalaya, New Delhi, India, and were assessed by Young's Internet Addiction Test and the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire. Results Among the 426 students, the mean internet addiction total score was 36.63 (20.78), which indicated mild level of internet addiction. 1.41%(six students) was diagnosed as excessive internet users, while 30.28% and 23.94% were classified as moderate and mild internet users, respectively. The prevalence of internet addiction between gender was 58.22% in males and 41.78% in females. While both positive (prosocial) and negative (hyperactivity, emotional, conduct and peer problem) impacts of internet use were reported by students, in the current study excessive use of internet had a negative impact on students' lives as compared with positive impact, which was statistically significant (p<0.0001). Conclusion Excessive internet use led to abnormal behaviours which cause negative consequences to users.
