| 1 | Numerical study of a dissipative micropolar fluid flow past an inclined porous plate with heat source/sink显示文摘Micropolar theories present an excellent mechanism for exploring new non-Newtonian materials processing provides a stimulating area for process engineering simulation.Motivated by area for process engineering applications,the present article presents the scope offinite element method in solving a mathematical model for magnetohydrodynamic,incom-pressible,dissipative and chemically reacting micropolar fluid flow and heat and mass transferthrough a porous medium from an inclined plate with heat sourcelsink has been investigated.For this purpose,the set of governing equations have been reframed and put into adimensionless form under the assumption of low Reynolds number with appropriatedimensionless quantities that can fit into the finite element fommulation.In addition tohighlighting the operational aspects of weighted residual scheme,a detailed investigation hasbeen camied out on the associated flow stnucture,heat and mass transfer.The evolution ofmany multi-physical parameters in these variables is illustrated graphically.Finite elementcode is benchmarked with the results reported in the literature to check the validity andaccuracy under some limiting cases and excellent agreement is seen with published solutionsand results of skin friction coefficient,couple stress coefficient,Nusselt number and Sherwoodnumber for invoked parameter are tabulated which shows that increasing heat sourcelsinkparameter elevates temperature.Chemical reaction parameter reduces velocity and concentra-tion gradients.Sherwood number enhances as chemical reaction parameter increases but reverse phenomena is observed in case of inclination of angle.Furthermore,a gridindependency test has been caried out for different grid sizes which has proven this methodis adequate. | Shamshuddin MD Thirupathi Thumma | 2019 | Propulsion and Power Research2019,8,1: | 2 |

| 16 | Preservation of organic matter in soils of a climobiosequence in the Main Range of Peninsular Malaysia显示文摘Limited information is available about factors of soil organic carbon(SOC) preservation in soils along a climo-biosequence. The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of soil texture and mineralogy on preservation of SOC in the topsoil and subsoil along a climo-biosequence in the Main Range of Peninsular Malaysia. Soil samples from the A and B-horizons of four representative soil profiles were subjected to particle-size fractionation and mineralogical analyses including X-ray diffraction and selective dissolution. The proportion of SOC in the 250-2000 μm fraction(SOC associated with coarse sand) decreased while the proportion of SOC in the <53 μm fraction(SOC associated with clay and silt)increased with depth. This reflected the importance of the fine mineral fractions of the soil matrix for SOC storage in the subsoil. Close relationships between the content of SOC in the <53 μm fraction and the content of poorly crystalline Fe oxides [oxalate-extractable Fe(Fe_o) – pyrophosphate-extractable Fe(Fe_p)] and poorly crystalline inorganic forms of Al [oxalateextractable Al(Al_o) – pyrophosphate-extractable Al(Al_p)] in the B-horizon indicated the importance of poorly crystalline Fe oxides and poorly crystalline aluminosilicates for the preservation of SOC in the Bhorizon. The increasing trend of Fe_o-Fe_p and Al_o-Al_p over elevation suggest that the importance of poorly crystalline Fe oxides and poorly crystalline aluminosilicates for the preservation of SOC in the Bhorizon increased with increasing elevation. | 17 | Chemical Weathering of New Pyroclastic Deposits from Mt. Merapi (Java), Indonesia显示文摘The Java Island, Indonesia with abundant amount of pyroclastic deposits is located in the very active and dynamic Pacific Ring of Fires. Studying the geochemical weathering indices of these pyroclastic deposits is important to get a clear picture about weathering profiles on deposits resulting from the eruption of Mt. Merapi. Immediately after the first phase of the eruption (March to June 2006), moist and leached pyroclastic deposits were collected. These pyroclastic deposits were found to be composed of volcanic glass, plagioclase feldspar in various proportions, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, olivine, amphibole and titanomagnetite. The total elemental composition of the bulk samples (including trace elements and heavy metals) was determined by wet chemical methods and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyses. Weathering of the pyroclastic deposits was studied using various weathering indices.
