| 13 | How and where the mitral valve leaks in functional mitral regurgitation显示文摘Background and Aim:It remains unknown how and where the mitral valve leaks in functional mitral regurgitation. The objective of the current study was to quantify the geometry and position of the leaflet free edges in order to reveal gapping mechanism of the mitral valve, and develop a plug technique to prevent mitral regurgitation. Methods:Eight porcine mitral valves were sutured onto a dilated annulus in an in-vitro experiment to simulate valve closure at hydrostatic transmitral pressure.Eight sonocrystals were attached to the mitral valve leaflet free edges.Papillary muscles(PM)were adjusted to the normal position, and subsequently to positions of asymmetric and symmetric papillary muscle displacement.Sonocrystal positions were measured and analyzed. Results:The leaflet free edges in the central and medial regions moved medially, apically, and posteriorly from normal to asymmetric PM position.Gapping potential in the posteromedial region increased.Medial displacement of the free edges sometimes generated a gap in the anterolateral region in the asymmetric PM position. The leaflet free edges moved posteriorly and apically from the normal to symmetric PM position, and generated a dumb-bell shaped gap. Conclusions:Asymmetric PM position impairs the posteromedial coaptation region due to leaflet tenting, and compromises the anterolateral coaptation region due to medial leaflet displacement. The gaps include multiple sites along the coaptation line.Symmetric PM position impairs valve coaptation due to valve tenting only. The gap is a symmetrical dumb-bell shape. The findings are crucial for development of the plug technique to prevent mitral regurgitation. | Zhongxi Zhou Bo Gao Teng Jing Stephanie Wang Shamini Parameswaran Zhaoming He | 2019 | Medicine in Novel Technology and Devices2019,,2: | 0 |
| 14 | Mitral valve cleft gapping mechanism in functional mitral regurgitation:An in-vitro study显示文摘Background and aim:Gapping formation of the mitral valve cleft is unknown. The objective of this study was to quantify the geometry of mitral valve cleft coaptation in the asymmetric and symmetric papillary muscles(PMs)positions in a dilated annulus in order to reveal mitral valve gapping mechanism. Methods:Nine fresh porcine mitral valves with the posterior leaflet clefts were sutured onto a saddle-shaped dilated annulus in an in-vitro experiment to simulate mitral valve closure at hydrostatic pressure.PMs were adjusted to the normal position, and subsequently to positions of asymmetric and symmetric PM displacement.Sonomicrometry was used to measure positions of the lateral and medial clefts. Results:PM displacement tethered the leaflets. Both the opening angle and contact angle of the lateral cleft, but not of the medial cleft, increased in the asymmetric PM displacement.Neither the opening angle nor contact angle of both clefts increased in the symmetric PM displacement. Conclusions:Displacement of the postero-medial PM moves the posterior leaflet medially and impairs coaptation of the lateral cleft, but not medial cleft, which suggest that the medial cleft displacement in the asymmetric PM position is another mechanism of gap formation in addition to leaflet tenting due to apical leaflet displacement.Symmetric PM displacement cause leaflet tenting, but doesn’t impair the leaflet cleft coaptation, which suggest that the asymmetric PM position is even worse than the symmetric PM position. | Bo Gao Zhongxi Zhou Teng Jing Stephanie Wang Shamini Parameswaran Zhaoming He | 2021 | Medicine in Novel Technology and Devices2021,,2: | 0 |
| 15 | Comparative Study on Microstructures of Zincalume Steel(G550)Welded Joint Between Metal Inert Gas and Laser Beam Welding显示文摘Zincalume steel(G550)is commonly used in various construction fields because of its high corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties. In recent years,a number of steel companies have massively produced zincalume steel(G550)with large volumes of waste. For the reduction of massive industrial wastes, the zincalume steel(G550)was welded in the lap joint configuration using different welding parameters in the metal inert gas(MIG)welding and laser beam welding(LBW)process in this study. The MIG welding and LBW are more welcomed welding methods due to their high efficiency and low cost. However, they are different as the LBW offers welding speed three to five times faster than MIG welding, while LBW’s heat transfer to workpieces is much less than MIG welding, which can avoid some distortions. The microstructure of zincalume steel(G550)was investigated using scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and the microstructure characterizations of welded specimens were analyzed. The experiment found the columnar dendrites extended under the heat flow direction during the MIG welding and LBW process. Thus, the columnar grains were formed in between the equiaxed zone and fusion zone(FZ)at high heat input and slow cooling rate. Moreover, the grain size of FZ was comparatively smaller than heat affected zone(HAZ)and base metal(BM). | Walisijiang Tayier Shamini Janasekaran Syed Menhazul Bari | 2021 | Journal of Harbin Institute of Technology(New Series)2021,28,5: | 0 |
| 16 | Mechanistic study of ventricular hook anchor for heart valve replacement or repair显示文摘Objective:The objective of this study was to investigate the mechanics of ventricular anchor for heart valve repair or replacement. Methods:Thirteen anchors were designed based on six geometric parameters of the anchor teeth:width, thickness, root length, radius of curvature, tip angle, and tip length.Finite element method was applied to simulate the process of the anchor compressing into a sheath. The Von-Mises strain, peak pulling force, and bite depth were evaluated. An experiment was performed to validate the simulation. Results:The maximum Von-Mises strain was at the contact region of the anchor in a sheath where the teeth were compressed against one another and were distorted. The maximum strain increased with an increase in tooth width, thickness, radius of curvature and tip angle. The peak pulling force increased as tooth thickness and width increased, and radius of curvature decreased. Both the radial and axial bite depths increased with an increase in the tip length at the tip length3 mm.The radial bite depth increased with an increase in the radius of curvature.Conclusion:1)the maximum strain depends primarily on the tooth width, thickness, radius of curvature and tip angle;2)the peak pulling force depends primarily on the tooth width, thickness, radius of curvature;3)the axial bite depth depends primarily on the tip length at the tip length3 mm.The radial bite depth depends on the radius of curvature and the tip length at the tip length>3 mm.The study provides guidance for ventricular anchor design. | Ran Zhang Xingguang Liu Si Chen Shamini Parameswaran Zhaoming He | 2020 | Medicine in Novel Technology and Devices2020,,1: | 0 |
