| 1 | Effect of Sancaijiangtang on plasma nitric oxide and endothelin-1 levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and vascular dementia:a single-blind randomized controlled trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of Sancaijiangtang powders on plasma nitric oxide and endothelin-1 levels. We sought to identify the common pathological link and mechanism of action for Traditional Chinese medicine in type 2 diabetes mellitus and vascular dementia,and to explicate the material basis for treating the different diseases with the same method in Traditional Chinese Medicine.METHODS: In total,168 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and vascular dementia were enrolled in the study,and randomly divided into two groups by simple randomization. Patients in the treatment group received oral Sancaijiangtang powders with pioglitazone hydrochloride three times daily,while patients in the control group received pioglitazone hydrochloride alone. The treatment course was for12 weeks. Mini-mental state examinations(Chinese version) and Montreal Cognitive Assessments(Beijing version) were performed,and fasting plasma glucose,fasting insulin,hemoglobin A1 c,homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance,plasma nitric oxide and endothelin-1 levels were measured before and after the treatment.RESULTS: The post-treatment levels for all measurements in both groups were better than pre-treatment levels(P < 0.05). The post-treatment levels for all measurements in the treatment group were better than the levels measured in the control group(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: Type 2 diabetes mellitus and vascular dementia have common pathological mechanisms for insulin resistance and endothelium dysfunction. Sancaijiangtang powders could improve the release of nitric oxide and inhibit the secretion of endothelin-1. | 2 | Spatial distribution prediction and benefits assessment of green manure in the Pinggu District,Beijing,based on the CLUE-S model显示文摘Green manure use in China has declined rapidly since the 1980 s with the extensive use of chemical fertilizers.The deterioration of field environments and the demand for green agricultural products have resulted in more attention to green manure.Human intervention and policy-oriented behaviors likely have large impacts on promoting green manure planting.However,little information is available regarding on where,at what rates,and in which ways(i.e.,intercropping green manure in orchards or rotating green manure in cropland) to develop green manure and what benefits could be gained by incorporating green manure in fields at the county scale.This paper presents the conversion of land use and its effects at small region extent(CLUE-S) model,which is specifically developed for the simulation of land use changes originally,to predict spatial distribution of green manure in cropland and orchards in 2020 in Pinggu District located in Beijing,China.Four types of land use for planting or not planting green manure were classified and the future land use dynamics(mainly croplands and orchards) were considered in the prediction.Two scenarios were used to predict the spatial distribution of green manure based on data from 2011:The promotion of green manure planting in orchards(scenario 1) and the promotion of simultaneous green manure planting in orchards and croplands(scenario 2).The predictions were generally accurate based on the receiver operating characteristic(ROC) and Kappa indices,which validated the effectiveness of the CLUE-S model in the prediction.In addition,the spatial distribution of the green manure was acquired,which indicated that green manure mainly located in the orchards of the middle and southern regions of Dahuashan,the western and southern regions of Wangxinzhuang,the middle region of Shandongzhuang,the eastern region of Pinggu and the middle region of Xiagezhuang under scenario 1.Green manure planting under scenario 2 occurred in orchards in the middle region of Wangxinzhuang,and croplands in most regions of Daxingzhuang,southern Pinggu,northern Xiagezhuang and most of Mafang.The spatially explicit results allowed for the assessment of the benefits of these changes based on different economic and ecological indicators.The economic and ecological gains of scenarios 1 and 2 were 175691 900 and143000 300 CNY,respectively,which indicated that the first scenario was more beneficial for promoting the same area of green manure.These results can facilitate policies of promoting green manure and guide the extensive use of green manure in local agricultural production in suitable ways. | ZHANG Li-ping ZHANG Shi-wen ZHOU Zhi-ming HOU Sen HUANG Yuan-fang CAO Wei-dong | 2016 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2016,15,2: | 13 |
| 3 | Are humic substances soil microbial residues or unique synthesized compounds?A perspective on their distinctiveness显示文摘Humic substances(HS),which are defined as a series of highly acidic,relatively high-molecular-weight,and yellow to black colored substances formed during the decay and transformation of plant and microbial remains,ubiquitously occur in nature.Humic substances represent the largest stable organic carbon pool in terrestrial environments and are the central characteristic of the soil.However,the validity of the HS concept and the justification of their extraction procedure have been recently debated.Here,we argue that the traditional humic paradigm is still relevant.Humic substances are distinctive and complex because the extracted HS formed during the humification are chemically distinct from their precursors and are heterogeneous among soils.By reviewing the concept,formation pathways,and stabilization of HS,we propose that the key question facing soil scientists is whether HS are soil microbial residues or unique synthesized compounds.Without revealing the distinctiveness of HS,it is impossible to address this question,as the structure,composition,and reactivity of HS are still poorly known owing to the heterogeneity and geographical variability of HS and the limits of the currently available analytical techniques.In our view,the distinctiveness of HS is fundamental to the soil,and thus further studies should be focused on revealing the distinctiveness of HS and explaining why HS hold this distinctiveness. | Sen DOU Jun SHAN Xiangyun SONG Rui CAO Meng WU Chenglin LI Song GUAN | 2020 | Pedosphere2020,30,2: | 12 |
| 4 | Th22 cell accumulation is associated with colorectal cancer development显示文摘AIM: To investigate the expression of Th22 cells and related cytokines in colorectal cancer(CRC) tissues, and the probably mechanism.METHODS: CRC tumor and paratumor tissues were collected to detect the expression levels of Th22 cells and of related cytokines by immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-q PCR).Interleukin(IL)-22 alone or with a STAT3 inhibitor was co-cultured with RKO cells in vitro to study the effects of IL-22 on colon cancer cells.IL-22 alone or with a STAT3 inhibitor was injected into a BALB/c nude mouse model with subcutaneously transplanted RKO cells to study the effects of IL-22 on colon cancer growth.RESULTS: The percentage of Th22 cells in the CD4+ T subset was significantly higher in tumor tissues compared with that in paratumor tissues(1.47% ± 0.083% vs 1.23% ± 0.077%, P < 0.05) as determined by flow cytometry.RT-qP CR analysis revealed that the m RNA expression levels of IL-22, aryl hydrocarbon receptor, CCL20 and CCL22 were significantly higher in tumor tissues compared with those in paratumor tissues.CCL27 mR NA also displayed a higher expression level in tumor tissues compared with that in paratumor tissues; however, these levels were not significantly different(2.58 ± 0.93 vs 2.30 ± 0.78, P > 0.05).IL-22 enhanced colon cancer cell proliferation in vitro and displayed anti-apoptotic effects; these effects were blocked by adding a STAT3 inhibitor.IL-22 promoted tumor growth in BALB/c nude mice; however, this effect was reversed by adding a STAT3 inhibitor.CONCLUSION: Th22 cells that accumulate in CRC may be associated with the chemotactic effect of the tumor microenvironment.IL-22 is associated with CRC development, most likely via STAT3 activation. | Yong-Hong Huang Yun-Fei Cao Zhi-Yuan Jiang Sen Zhang Feng Gao | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,14: | 12 |
| 5 | Genetic alterations and expression of inhibitor of growth 1 in human sporadic colorectal cancer显示文摘AIM: To explore the effect and significance of inhibitor of growth 1 (ING1) gene in carcinogenesis and progression of human sporadic colorectal cancer.METHODS: mRNA expression, mutation, and loss of heterozygosity (LOH) of ING1 gene in 35 specimens of sporadic colorectal cancer tissues and the matched normal mucous membrane tissues were detected by semi-quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR),PCR-single strain conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP)and PCR-simple sequence length polymorphism (PCR-SSLP)using microsatellite markers, respectively.RESULTS: The average ratios of light intensities of p33ING1b and p47ING1a mRNA expression in the cancerous tissues were significantly lower than those in normal tissues.The difference between the two mRNA splices was not significant in the matched tissues. In addition, the ratios of light intensities of p33INB1b and p47ING1a mRNA expression in the cancerous tissues of Dukes' stages C and D were significantly lower than those in cancerous tissues of Dukes'stages A and B. However, no mutation of ING1 gene was detected in all 35 cases; only 4 cases of LOH (11.4%)were found.CONCLUSION: p33ING1b and p47ING1a mRNA expressions are closely related with the carcinogenesis and progression of human sporadic colorectal cancer. No mutation of ING1gene is found, and there are only few LOH in sporadic colorectal cancers. These might not be the main reasons for the down regulation of ING1 expression. | 6 | Strategies for improving the storage performance of silicon-based anodes in lithium-ion batteries显示文摘Silicon has attracted much attention as a promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to its high theoretical capacity and rich resource abundance. However, the practical battery use of Si is challenged by its low conductivity and drastic volume variation during the Li uptake/release process. Tremendous efforts have been made on shrinking the particle size of Si into nanoscale so that the volume variation could be accommodated. However, the bare nano-Si material would still pulverize upon (de)lithiation. Moreover, it shows an excessive surface area to invite unlimited growth of solid electrolyte interface that hinders the transportation of charge carriers, and an increased interparticle resistance. As a result, the Si nanoparticles gradually lose their electrical contact during the cycling process, which accounts for poor thermodynamic stability and sluggish kinetics of the anode reaction versus Li. To address these problems and improve the Li storage performance of nano-Si anode, proper structural design should be applied on the Si anode. | 8 | Hazard evaluation of ignition sensitivity and explosion severity for three typical MH_(2) (M=Mg,Ti,Zr)of energetic materials显示文摘MgH_(2),TiH_(2),and ZrH_(2) are three typical metal hydrides that have been gradually applied to composite explosives and propellants as additives in recent years.To evaluate ignition sensitivity and explosion severity,the Hartmann device and spherical pressure vessel were used to test ignition energy and explosion pressure,respectively.The results showed that the ignition sensitivity of ZrH_(2),TiH_(2) and MgH_(2) gradually increased.When the concentration of MgH_(2) is 83.0 g/m^(3) in Hartmann device,the ignition energy attained a minimum of 10.0 mJ.The explosion pressure of MgH_(2) were 1.44 times and 1.76 times that of TiH_(2) and ZrH_(2),respectively,and the explosion pressure rising rate were 3.97 times and 9.96 times that of TiH_(2) and ZrH_(2),respectively,through the spherical pressure vessel.It indicated that the reaction reactivity and reaction rate of MgH_(2) were higher than that of TiH_(2) and ZrH_(2).In addition,to conduct in edepth theoretical analysis of ignition sensitivity and explosion severity,gas production and combustion heat per unit mass of ZrH_(2),TiH_(2) and MgH_(2) were tested by mercury manometer and oxygen bomb calorimetry.The experimental results revealed that MgH_(2) had a relatively high gas production per unit mass(5.15 mL/g),while TiH_(2) and ZrH_(2) both had a gas production of less than 2.0 mL/g.Their thermal stability gradually increased,leading to a gradual increase in ignition energy.Furthermore,compared with theoretical combustion heat,the combustion ratio of MgH_(2),TiH_(2) and ZrH_(2) was more than 96.0%,with combustion heat value of 29.96,20.94 and 12.22 MJ/kg,respectively,which was consistent with the explosion pressure and explosion severity test results. | Xing-liang Wu Sen Xu Ai-min Pang Wei-guo Cao Da-bin Liu Xin-yu Zhu Fei-yang Xu Xu Wang | 2021 | Defence Technology(防务技术)2021,17,4: | 6 |

| 11 | Relationships among KRAS mutation status, expression of RAS pathway signaling molecules, and clinicopathological features and prognosis of patients with colorectal cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND The RAS/RAF/MEK/ERK and PI3 K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathways all belong to mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK) signaling pathways, Mutations in any one of the upstream genes(such as the RAS gene or the BRAF gene) may be transmitted to the protein through transcription or translation, resulting in abnormal activation of the signaling pathway. This study investigated the relationship between the KRAS gene mutation and the clinicopathological features and prognosis of colorectal cancer(CRC), and the effect of KRAS mutations on its associated proteins in CRC, with an aim to clarify the cause of tumor progression and drug resistance caused by mutation of the KRAS gene.AIM To investigate the KRAS gene and RAS pathway signaling molecules in CRC and to analyze their relationship with clinicopathological features and prognosis METHODS Colorectal cancer tissue specimens from 196 patients were analyzed for KRAS mutations using quantitative polymerase chain reaction and for KRAS, BRAF,MEK, and ERK protein expression levels using immunohistochemistry of tumor microarrays. To analyze differences of RAS pathway signaling molecule expression levels in different KRAS gene status, the relationships between these parameters and clinicopathological features, 4-year progression-free survival, and overall survival were analyzed by independent sample t test, Kaplan-Meier plots,and the log-rank test. Predictors of overall and disease-free survival were assessed using a Cox proportional hazards model.RESULTS Of the 196 patients, 62(32%) carried mutations in codon 12(53/62) or codon 13(9/62) in exon 2 of the KRAS gene. KRAS, BRAF, ERK, and MEK protein expression was detected in 71.4%, 78.8%, 64.3%, and 50.8% of CRC tissues,respectively. There were no significant differences between KRAS mutation status and KRAS, BRAF, MEK, or ERK protein levels. Positive expression of KRAS and ERK was associated with poor tumor differentiation, and KRAS expression was also associated with age < 56 years. MEK expression was significantly associated with distant metastasis(P < 0.05). The 4-year progression-free survival rate, but not overall survival rate, was significantly higher in patients with KRAS-negative tumors than in those with KRAS-positive tumors(P < 0.05), whereas BRAF, MEK,and ERK expression was unrelated to survival. Multivariate analysis showed that only the expression of KRAS protein was a risk factor for tumor recurrence(P <0.05). | 12 | A shadow- eliminated vegetation index (SEVI) for removal of self and cast shadow effects on vegetation in rugged terrains显示文摘The effect of terrain shadow, including the self and cast shadows, is one ofthe main obstacles for accurate retrieval of vegetation parameters byremote sensing in rugged terrains. A shadow- eliminated vegetation index(SEVI) was developed, which was computed from only red and nearinfrared top-of-atmosphere reflectance without other heterogeneous dataand topographic correction. After introduction of the conceptual modeland feature analysis of conventional wavebands, the SEVI was constructedby ratio vegetation index (RVI), shadow vegetation index (SVI) andadjustment factor (f (Δ)). Then three methods were used to validate theSEVI accuracy in elimination of terrain shadow effects, including relativeerror analysis, correlation analysis between the cosine of solar incidenceangle (cosi) and vegetation indices, and comparison analysis between SEVIand conventional vegetation indices with topographic correction. Thevalidation results based on 532 samples showed that the SEVI relativeerrors for self and cast shadows were 4.32% and 1.51% respectively. Thecoefficient of determination between cosi and SEVI was only 0.032 and thecoefficient of variation (std/mean) for SEVI was 12.59%. | 14 | Role of LAP^+CD4^+ T cells in the tumor microenvironment of colorectal cancer显示文摘AIM To investigate the abundance and potential functions of LAP^+CD4^+ T cells in colorectal cancer(CRC). METHODS Proportions of LAP^+CD4^+ T cells were examined in peripheral blood and tumor/paratumor tissues of CRC patients and healthy controls using flow cytometry. Expression of phenotypic markers such as forkhead box(Fox)p3, cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein(CTLA)-4, chemokine CC receptor (CCR)4 and CCR5 was measured using flow cytometry. LAP^-CD4^+ and LAP^+CD4^+ T cells were isolated using a magnetic cellsorting system and cell purity was analyzed by flow cytometry. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction was used to measure expression of cytokines interleukin (IL)-10 and transforming growth factor(TGF)-β.RESULTS The proportion of LAP^+CD4^+ T cells was significantly higher in peripheral blood from patients (9.44% ± 3.18%) than healthy controls (1.49% ± 1.00%, P < 0.001). Among patients, the proportion of LAP^+CD4^+ T cells was significantly higher in tumor tissues(11.76% ± 3.74%) compared with paratumor tissues (3.87% ± 1.64%, P < 0.001). We also observed positive correlations between the proportion of LAP^+CD4^+ T cells and TNM stage(P < 0.001), distant metastasis(P < 0.001) and serum level of carcinoembryonic antigen(P < 0.05). Magnetic-activated cell sorting gave an overall enrichment of LAP^+CD4^+ T cells (95.02% ± 2.87%), which was similar for LAP^-CD4^+ T cells(94.75% ± 2.76%). In contrast to LAP^-CD4^+ T cells, LAP^+CD4^+ T cells showed lower Foxp3 expression but significantly higher levels of CTLA-4, CCR4 and CCR5(P < 0.01). | 15 | Spatial and temporal variation characteristics of ocean waves in the South China Sea during the boreal winter显示文摘The spatial and temporal variation characteristics of the waves in the South China Sea(SCS) in the boreal winter during the period of 1979/1980–2011/2012 have been investigated based on the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts interim(ERA-Interim) reanalysis dataset. The results show that the leading mode of significant wave height anomalies(SWHA) in the SCS exhibits significant interannual variation and a decadal shift around the mid-1990 s, and features a basin-wide pattern in the entire SCS with a center located in the west of the Luzon Strait. The decadal change from a weak regime to a strong regime is mainly associated with the enhancement of winter monsoon modulated by the Pacific decadal oscillation(PDO). The interannual variation of the SWHA has a significant negative correlation with the El Ni?o Southern Oscillation(ENSO) in the same season and the preceding autumn. For a better understanding of the physical mechanism between the SCS ocean waves and ENSO, further investigation is made by analyzing atmospheric circulation. The impact of the ENSO on the SWHA over the SCS is bridged by the East Asian winter monsoon and Pacific-East Asian teleconnection in the lower troposphere.
