| 1 | New parameter in diagnosis of acute appendicitis:Platelet distribution width显示文摘AIM:To investigate the diagnostic accuracy of the mean platelet volume and platelet distribution width in acute appendicitis.METHODS:This retrospective,case-controlled study compared 295 patients with acute appendicitis(Group?Ⅰ),100 patients with other intra-abdominal infections(GroupⅡ),and 100 healthy individuals(GroupⅢ)between January 2012 and January 2013.The age,gender,and white blood cell count,neutrophil percentage,mean platelet volume,and platelet distribution width values from blood samples were compared among the groups.Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS for Windows 21.0 software.In addition,the sensitivity,specificity,positive and negative predictive values and likelihood ratios,and diagnostic accuracy were calculated.RESULTS:The mean ages of patients were 29.9±12.0years for Group?Ⅰ,31.5±14.0 years for GroupⅡ,and30.4±13.0 years for GroupⅢ.Demographic features such as age and gender were not significantly different among the groups.White blood cell count,neutrophil percentage and platelet distribution width were significantly higher in Group?Ⅰ?compared to groupsⅡandⅢ(P<0.05).Diagnostically,the sensitivity,specificity and diagnostic accuracy were 73.1%,94.0%,and 78%for white blood cell count,70.0%,96.0%,and 76.0%for neutrophil percentage,29.5%,49.0%,and 34.0%for mean platelet volume,and 97.1%,93.0%,and 96.0%for platelet distribution width,respectively.The highest diagnostic accuracy detected was for platelet distribution width between Group?Ⅰ?and GroupⅢ(P<0.01).CONCLUSION:Platelet distribution width analysis can be used for diagnosis of acute appendicitis without requiring additional tests,thus reducing the cost and loss of time. | Bulent Dinc Alten Oskay Selcan Enver Dinc Bilge Bas Sabri Tekin | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015，21，6： | 5 |

| 6 | Conjugate Heat Transfer Characterization in Cooling Channels显示文摘Cooling technology of gas turbine blades,primarily ensured via internal forced convection,is aimed towards withdrawing thermal energy from the airfoil.To promote heat exchange,the walls of internal cooling passages are lined with repeated geometrical flow disturbance elements and surface non-uniformities.Raising the heat transfer at the expense of increased pressure loss;the goal is to obtain the highest possible cooling effectiveness at the lowest possible pressure drop penalty.The cooling channel heat transfer problem involves convection in the fluid domain and conduction in the solid.This coupled behavior is known as conjugate heat transfer.This experimental study models the effects of conduction coupling on convective heat transfer by applying iso-heat-flux boundary condition at the external side of a scaled serpentine passage.Investigations involve local temperature measurements performed by Infrared Thermography over flat and ribbed slab configurations.Nusselt number distributions along the wetted surface are obtained by means of heat flux distributions,computed from an energy balance within the metal domain.For the flat plate experiments,the effect of conjugate boundary condition on heat transfer is estimated to be in the order of 3%.In the ribbed channel case,the normalized Nusselt number distributions are compared with the basic flow features.Contrasting the findings with other conjugate and convective iso-heat-flux literature,a high degree of overall correlation is evident. | Beni Cukurel Tony Arts Claudio Selcan | 2012 | Journal of Thermal Science2012，21，3： | 0 |
| 7 | The in-vivo assessment of Turkish propolis and its nano form on testicular damage induced by cisplatin显示文摘Objective: Chemotherapeutic drugs, such as cisplatin(CP), which are associated with oxidative stress and apoptosis, may adversely affect the reproductive system. This study tests whether administration of propolis and nano-propolis(NP) can alleviate oxidative stress and apoptosis in rats with testicular damage induced by CP.Methods: In this study, polymeric nanoparticles including propolis were synthesized with a green sonication method and characterized using Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, Brunauer-EmmettTeller, and wet scanning transmission electron microscopy techniques. In total, 56 rats were divided into the following seven groups: control, CP, propolis, NP-10, CP + propolis, CP + NP-10, and CP + NP-30.Propolis(100 mg/kg), NP-10(10 mg/kg), and NP-30(30 mg/kg) treatments were administered by gavage daily for 21 d, and CP(3 mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally in a single dose. After the experiment,oxidative stress parameters, namely, malondialdehyde(MDA), glutathione(GSH), glutathione peroxidase(GPx), and catalase(CAT), and apoptotic pathways including B cell leukemia/lymphoma-2 protein(Bcl-2)and Bcl-2-associated X protein(Bax) were measured in testicular tissues. Furthermore, sperm quality and weights of the testis, epididymis, right cauda epididymis, seminal vesicles and prostate were evaluated.Results: Propolis and NP(especially NP-30) were able to preserve oxidative balance(decreased MDA levels and increased GSH, CAT, and GPx activities) and activate apoptotic pathways(decreased Bax and increased Bcl-2) in the testes of CP-treated rats. Sperm motility in the control, CP, and CP + NP-30 groups were 60%, 48.75%, and 78%, respectively(P<0.001).
