1Peripheral nerve regeneration with cotransplantation of umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells and Schwann cells in rat sciatic nerve defect显示文摘Previous research has demonstrated that cotransplantation of umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UCMSCs) and Schwann cells (SCs) can repair spinal nerve injury, but few studies have investigated their use in peripheral nerve regeneration. In the present study, we cotransplanted UCMSCs and SCs to repair 5-mm left sciatic nerve defects in rats, and compared the effects of UCMSCs + SCs transplantation with UCMSCs or SCs transplantation alone. After UCMSCs + SCs transplantation, nerve conduction velocity of the left sciatic nerve and gait were both improved. Retrograde tracing analysis demonstrated that the mean count of fluorogold-labeled neurons, as well as the mean axon count and axon density, were significantly greater in the left sciatic nerve after UCMSCs + SCs transplantation, compared with UCMSCs or SCs transplantation alone. Improvements in conduction velocity and increased sheath thickness in the left sciatic nerve were similar after UCMSCs transplantation and UCMSCs + SCs transplantation. These findings suggest that UCMSCs transplantation can promote the repair of sciatic nerve defects to some extent, but that combined UCMSCs + SCs transplantation has a significantly greater regenerative effect.Jin-Yong Lee Hun-Jong Jung Mohammad S. 2Correlative Mn-Co catalyst excels Pt in oxygen reduction reaction of quasi-solid-state zinc-air batteries显示文摘Zn-air batteries(ZABs)as a class of promising energy storage setups are generally powered by efficient and robust catalysts at the oxygen-involving cathode.Although the existing non-noble catalysts have outperformed noble Pt benchmark in the alkaline liquid-state ZABs,to the best of our knowledge few have excelled Pt in quasi-solid-state(QSS)ZABs.Herein,we found that an integrated Mn-Co cathode derived from the bimetallic Mn/Co metal organic frameworks generates a 1.4-fold greater power density in the QSS ZABs than a Pt cathode while its power density in liquid-state ZABs is only 0.8-fold of the latter.Moreover,such Mn-Co catalyst delivers high-rate oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)capability with half-wave potential of 0.84 V.The in-depth characterizations and analyses have demonstrated that the Co and Mn species show the specific affinity towards H_(2)O and O_(2),respectively,synergizing the ORR process in the water-deficient environment of QSS ZABs.This work has enlightened the rational design of non-noble metal catalysts to improve the power density of QSS ZABs.Tingting Wang Jincheng Huang Wei Sang Cai Zhou Bohan Zhang Wei Zhu Kang Du Zongkui Kou Shengxiang Wang 2024Nano Research2024,17,5:0
3C-Band 53.76 Tbit/s Transmission Based on Bit Allocation Optimization with Raman Amplification显示文摘We experimentally demonstrate an 80-channel wavelength division multiplexing(WDM)transmission system over a 400 km fiber link.Raman amplification results in a non-flat WDM signal spectrum.Therefore,bit allocation optimization is used to enable different channels to carry different order quadrature amplitude modulation signals according to their optical signal-noise-ratios.A neural network equalizer based on a convolutional neural network(CNN),long shortterm memory(LSTM)network,and fully connected(FC)layer structure is adopted in Rx digital signal processing,in which CNN is used for characteristic extraction,LSTM is used for equalization and demodulation,and FC layers are used for output.After transmission,the bit error rate of all channels is below the 25%soft-decision forward error correction threshold,and the line rate reaches 53.76 Tbit/s.Ding Junjie Wang Chen Ju Zhou Zhu Bowen Sang Bohan Liu Bo Yu Jianjun 2023激光与光电子学进展2023,60,7:0
4Traditional herbal medicines,Fuling,Baizhu,and Danggui,promote the proliferation of human Schwann cells显示文摘Enhancing Schwann cell proliferation may be beneficial for peripheral nerve repair and nerve regeneration. A traditional herbal formula composed of Fuling (poria cocos), Baizhu (Atractylodes macrocephala), and Danggui (Angelica sinensis) (FBD) improves neuronal survival and growth, and FBD may promote the secretion of brain-derived neurotrophic factor. However, the mechanism underlying Schwann cell proliferation remains unclear. We tested whether FBD enhanced the proliferation of human Schwann cells. FBD (20 μg/mL) increased Schwann cell viability and survival, and increased the number of cells at G2/M and S phases.
