1Integrated(de)multiplexer for orbital angular momentum fiber communication显示文摘The quickly increasing data transfer load requires an urgent revolution in current optical communication. Orbital angular momentum(OAM) multiplexing is a potential candidate with its ability to considerably enhance the capacity of communication. However, the lack of a compact, efficient, and integrated OAM(de)multiplexer prevents it from being widely applied. By attaching vortex gratings onto the facets of a few-mode fiber, we demonstrate an integrated fiber-based OAM(de)multiplexer. A vortex grating fabricated on the fiber facet enables the direct multiplexing of OAM states at one port and the demultiplexing of OAM states at the other port. The measured bit error rate of the carrier signal after propagating through a 5-km few-mode fiber confirms the validity and effectiveness of the proposed approach. 2Sensitivity-enhanced surface plasmon resonance sensor utilizing a tungsten disulfide (WS_2) nanosheets overlayer显示文摘Tungsten disulfide(WS_2), as a representative layered transition metal dichalcogenide(TMDC) material, possesses important potential for applications in highly sensitive sensors. Here, a sensitivity-enhanced surface plasmon resonance(SPR) sensor with a metal film modified by an overlayer of WS_2 nanosheets is proposed and demonstrated. The SPR sensitivity is related to the thickness of the WS_2 overlayer, which can be tailored by coating a WS_2 ethanol suspension with different concentrations or by the number of times of repeated post-coating.Benefitting from its large surface area, high refractive index, and unique optoelectronic properties, the WS_2 nanosheet overlayer coated on the gold film significantly improves the sensing sensitivity. The highest sensitivity(up to 2459.3 nm∕RIU) in the experiment is achieved by coating the WS_2 suspension once. Compared to the case without a WS_2 overlayer, this result shows a sensitivity enhancement of 26.6%. The influence of the WS_2 nanosheet overlayer on the sensing performance improvement is analyzed and discussed. Moreover, the proposed WS_2 SPR sensor has a linear correlation coefficient of 99.76% in refractive index range of 1.333 to 1.360. 4Amplification of high-order azimuthal mode based on a ring-core Yb-doped fiber显示文摘In order to increase the number of amplified azimuthal modes in Yb-doped fiber(YDF),a multiple azimuthal modes amplifier based on a ring-core Yb-doped fiber(RC-YDF)was proposed and demonstrated.A home-made RC-YDF which can support 6 azimuthal mode groups was employed to amplify the signal mode at 1064 nm,using a core pump scheme.The amplification characteristics of 5 high-order azimuthal linear polarization(HA-LP)mode groups(LP_(11),LP_(21),LP_(31),LP_(41),LP_(51))were studied comprehensively.A more than 8 d B gain is obtained for each signal mode with 5 d Bm input power,and the associated differential modal gain between all modes is less than 1 d B.The intensity profiles of all modes are stable and well preserved during the process of amplification.OU Nanxian LI Wei QIU Runzhou ZHANG Bin GAO Shecheng LIU Weiping 2022Optoelectronics Letters2022,18,4:0
5Randomly coupled trench-assisted multicore fibers with different arrangements for high tolerance of manufacturing errors显示文摘Randomly coupled multicore fibers(RC-MCFs)are promising candidates for long-haul transmission.However,the degree of coupling between the homogeneous cores of an RC-MCF is weakened if manufacturing errors appear.Therefore,a low-index trench layer is introduced into the coupled cores to investigate the effects of its position and thickness on the group index to enhance the tolerance of manufacturing errors.A depressed region is designed in the center of the core to solve the problem of the effective area decreasing because of the confinement of the low-index trench.Additionally,it is important to study the effective arrangement of the coupled cores to obtain a smaller group delay spread(GDS)within the limited 125-μm cladding;we discuss the single-layer and double-layer arrangements.A moderate range is found for both the bending radius and core pitch to minimize the GDS.For the single-layer arrangement,the degree of mixing is weak,and the degeneracy state does not easily change the bending conditions;thus,it may be a good candidate for designing systemically coupled multicore fibers.For the double-layer arrangement,the bending and twisting factors can induce sufficient mixing among the different modes to reduce GDS;thus,this arrangement is more suitable for the design of RC-MCFs.Yongneng JIANG Jiajing TU Shecheng GAO Weiping LIU Zhaohui LI 2023Science China(Information Sciences)2023,66,11:0
6Clipping discrete multi-tone for peak-power-constraint IM/DD optical systems显示文摘High peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR)is a major drawback of discrete multi-tone(DMT)in peak-power-constraint(PPC)intensity-modulation/direct-detection(IM/DD)optical systems.Symmetric clipping operation is a frequently-used and practical method for mitigating the PAPR of the DMT signal.However,clipping noise is inevitably induced by the symmetric clipping operation,thereby deteriorating the system’s performance.In this paper,we study the statistical characteristics of the clipping noise in detail.Depending on the statistical characteristics,clipping-noise-cancellation(CNC)algorithms are proposed to mitigate the clipping noise in the clipping DMT systems.Theoretically,the clipping noise can be completely removed using the low-density-parity-check-assisted CNC algorithm(LDPC-assisted CNC algorithm).To verify the superiority of the clipping DMT with the CNC algorithm,we conduct an experiment with a50 Gb/s DMT system using 10G-class commercial devices for the scenario of PPC passive optical networks.The receiver sensitivity of the clipping DMT system with the CNC algorithm can reach-24 d Bm at a 20%soft-decision forward-error-correction limit,which is 2.5 d B higher than that of the DMT system without clipping operation.The clipping operation and the CNC algorithm are added after the original digital signal processing,thereby demonstrating the potential to efectively overcome the drawback in DMT signals and other high-PAPR signals.Ji ZHOU Liangchuan LI Jiale HE Xiaofeng LU Yu BO Guanyu WANG Yuanda HUANG Gengchen LIU Yanzhao LU Shecheng GAO Yuanhua FENG Shancheng ZHAO Weiping LIU Changyuan YU Zhaohui LI 2023Science China(Information Sciences)2023,66,5:0
