1Pathogenesis and clinical management of Helicobacter pylori gastric infection显示文摘Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)is a gram-negative bacterium that infects approximately 4.4 billion individuals worldwide.However,its prevalence varies among different geographic areas,and is influenced by several factors.The infection can be acquired by means of oral-oral or fecal-oral transmission,and the pathogen possesses various mechanisms that improve its capacity of mobility,adherence and manipulation of the gastric microenvironment,making possible the colonization of an organ with a highly acidic lumen.In addition,H.pylori presents a large variety of virulence factors that improve its pathogenicity,of which we highlight cytotoxin associated antigen A,vacuolating cytotoxin,duodenal ulcer promoting gene A protein,outer inflammatory protein and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase.The host immune system,mainly by means of a Th1-polarized response,also plays a crucial role in the infection course.Although most H.pylori-positive individuals remain asymptomatic,the infection predisposes the development of various clinical conditions as peptic ulcers,gastric adenocarcinomas and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphomas.Invasive and non-invasive diagnostic methods,each of them with their related advantages and limitations,have been applied in H.pylori detection.Moreover,bacterial resistance to antimicrobial therapy is a major challenge in the treatment of this infection,and new therapy alternatives are being tested to improve H.pylori eradication.Last but not least,the development of effective vaccines against H.pylori infection have been the aim of several research studies.Breno Bittencourt de Brito Filipe Ant?nio Fran?a da Silva Aline Silva Soares Vinícius Afonso Pereira Maria Luísa Cordeiro Santos Mariana Miranda Sampaio Pedro Henrique Moreira Neves Fabrício Freire de Melo 2019World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,37:84
2Helicobacter pylori infection: Beyond gastric manifestations显示文摘Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)is a bacterium that infects more than a half of world’s population.Although it is mainly related to the development of gastroduodenal diseases,several studies have shown that such infection may also influence the development and severity of various extragastric diseases.According to the current evidence,whereas this bacterium is a risk factor for some of these manifestations,it might play a protective role in other pathological conditions.In that context,when considered the gastrointestinal tract,H.pylori positivity have been related to Inflammatory Bowel Disease,Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease,Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease,Hepatic Carcinoma,Cholelithiasis,and Cholecystitis.Moreover,lower serum levels of iron and vitamin B12 have been found in patients with H.pylori infection,leading to the emergence of anemias in a portion of them.With regards to neurological manifestations,a growing number of studies have associated that bacterium with multiple sclerosis,Alzheimer’s disease,Parkinson’s disease,and Guillain-Barrésyndrome.Interestingly,the risk of developing cardiovascular disorders,such as atherosclerosis,is also influenced by the infection.Besides that,the H.pylori-associated inflammation may also lead to increased insulin resistance,leading to a higher risk of diabetes mellitus among infected individuals.Finally,the occurrence of dermatological and ophthalmic disorders have also been related to that microorganism.In this sense,this minireview aims to gather the main studies associating H.pylori infection with extragastric conditions,and also to explore the main mechanisms that may explain the role of H.pylori in those diseases.Maria Luisa Cordeiro Santos Breno Bittencourt de Brito Filipe Antonio França da Silva Mariana Miranda Sampaio Hanna Santos Marques Natalia Oliveira e Silva Dulciene Maria de Magalhaes Queiroz Fabricio Freire de Melo 2020World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,28:34

4Neurotrophic factors in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases: implications for pathogenesis and therapy显示文摘Neurotrophic factors comprise essential secreted proteins that have several functions in neural and non-neural tissues, mediating the development, survival and maintenance of peripheral and central nervous system. Therefore, neurotrophic factor issue has been extensively investigated into the context of neurodegenerative diseases. Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease show changes in the regulation of specific neurotrophic factors and their receptors, which appear to be critical for neuronal degeneration. Indeed, neurotrophic factors prevent cell death in degenerative processes and can enhance the growth and function of affected neurons in these disorders. 5Research advances on the multiple uses of Moringa oleifera: a sustainable alternative for socially neglected population显示文摘Moringa oleifera Lam(Moringaceae) is a plant with high nutritional and medicinal value. Native to India, it is now widely distributed throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Its different parts are sources of proteins, vitamins and minerals and present different pharmacological and biotechnological potential. Moreover, M. oleifera seeds are widely used in water and effluent treatment, for their coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation properties, their ability of improving water quality, by reducing organic matter and microbial load, with special applicability in intensive animal production systems, such as aquaculture. In addition, due to its high nutritional value and several medicinal properties, this tree may act as a nutritional and medical alternative for socially neglected populations. 6Non-pharmacological cognitive intervention for aging and dementia:Current perspectives显示文摘In recent years, cognitive difficulties associated with normal aging and dementia have been receiving increased attention from both public and scientific communities. With an increase in overall lifespan, promoting healthy cognition has become a priority and a necessity for minimizing and preventing individual and societal burdens associated with cognitive dysfunctions in the elderly. The general awareness concerning the efficacy of preventive(e.g., lifestyles) and palliative treatment strategies of cognitive impairments, related to either healthy or unhealthy trajectories in cognitive aging, is continuously rising. There are several therapeutic strategies which can be broadly classified as either pharmacological or non-pharmacological/psychosocial. In face of the modest evidence for success of pharmacological treatments, especially for dementia related impairments, psychosocial interventions are progressively considered as a complementary treatment. Despite the relative spread of psychosocial interventions in clinical settings, research in this area is rather scarce with evidence for success of these therapies remaining controversial. In this work we provide an evidence based perspective on cognitive intervention(s) for healthy aging, pre-dementia(mild cognitive impairment), and dementia populations. 8Transcranial direct current stimulation in psychiatric disorders显示文摘The interest in non-invasive brain stimulation techniques is increasing in recent years. Among these techniques, transcranial direct current stimulation(t DCS) has been the subject of great interest among researchers because of its easiness to use, low cost, benign profile of side effects and encouraging results of research in the field. This interest has generated several studies and randomized clinical trials, particularly in psychiatry. In this review, we provide a summary of the development of the technique and its mechanism of action as well as a review of the methodological aspects of randomized clinical trials in psychiatry, including studies in affective disorders, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, child psychiatry and substance use disorder. Finally,we provide an overview of t DCS use in cognitive enhancement as well as a discussion regarding its clinical use and regulatory and ethical issues. 10Duration and intensity of rainfall events with the same erosivity change sediment yield and runoff rates显示文摘The effect of different rainfall patterns on surface runoff,infiltration and thus soil losses and sediment concentrations are still in the focus of current research.In most simulated rainfall experiments,pre-cipitation is applied at a fixed intensity for a fixed time.However,the impact of rainfall patterns on soil erosion processes may be different varying the rainfall duration and intensity that produces an event with similar rainfall erosivity values.Twenty-five rainfall events were applied on micro-scale runoff plots in a soil covered with corn straw to evaluate the sediment yield and runoff rates.The different rainfall types were composed by association of duration(Dur)and intensity(IP)with the same erosivity value.The Dur varied from 38 to 106 min and the IP varied from 75.0 to 44.6 mm h^(-1).The sediment yield varied from 1.89±1.26 g m^(-2) to 4.02±2.66 g m^(-2) and runoff ranged from 16.9±8.74 mm to 32.63±10.67 mm with highest rates occurring with high intensity and low duration.The highest rainfall intensity provides the maximum sediment yield(0.138 g m^(-2) min^(-1))and runoff rates(0.87 mm min^(-1)).The time to start surface runoff varied from 14 to 19.2 min and it was longer in treatments with longer durations and low precipitation intensity.No difference was found in the amount of sediments applying rain with the same erosivity and different associations of duration and intensity.However,the intensity and duration of the rain,with the same erosivity,altered the amount and time of runoff.In rainfall experiments with con-stant intensity and fixed time,the erosion rates depend on the duration of the applied rain.Therefore,the results of this study can contribute to the development of new perspectives in the design of water erosion experiments with simulated rain considering the duration,intensity and also the association of these variables to produce rainfall that delivery the same soil erosion capacity.Wilk Sampaio de Almeida Steffen Seitz Luiz Fernando Coutinho de Oliveira Daniel Fonseca de Carvalho 2021International Soil and Water Conservation Research2021,9,1:4

15Prognostic value of endothelial dysfunction in type 1 diabetes mellitus显示文摘Patients with diabetes mellitus are at high risk of developing atherosclerosis, associated with higher rates of micro and macro vascular involvement such as coronary artery disease and renal disease. The role of hyperglycemia to induce synthesis of reactive oxygen species by the oxidation of glucose, leading to an increased production of advanced glycosylation end products, as well as inflammation and oxidative stress has been proposed as a possible mechanism in the pathogenesis of endothelial dysfunction(ED). The interaction between C-peptide- the connecting segment of pro-insulin-and nitric oxide in vasodilation is also discussed. Therefore, endothelial dysfunction has been identified as an early marker of vascular disorder in type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. In some other diseases, ED has been considered an independent predictor of vascular disease, regardless of the method used. Studies have demonstrated the importance of endothelial dysfunction as an useful tool for identifying the risk of vascular complications in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, particularly as regards to renal impairment. 17PowerPlex■ fusion 6C system: internal validation study显示文摘This work is aimed at describing the proceedings and parameters used to validate PowerPlex■ Fusion 6C System,the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification kit by Promega,for posterior implementation in the laboratorial routine of the Forensic Genetic Service.The PowerPlex■ Fusion 6C System allows multiplex PCR,through simultaneous amplification and posterior detection by fluorescence of 27 loci.Characterization of the kit was made according to the laboratory's internal validation procedure based on validation guidelines from Scientific Working Group on DNA Analysis Methods.Some parameters were evaluated,such as specificity,analytical thresholds,sensitivity,precision,mixture studies,DNA control samples,a proficiency test and changes in the PCR-based procedures: final reaction volume and cycle number,changes in the reaction mixture for direct amplification.This kit proved to be very robust and the results are in concordance with previous developmental validation by the manufacturer.In some parameters,the results were better than expected.Ana Boavida Vanessa Bogas Lisa Sampaio Nair Gouveia Maria J.Porto Francisco Corte-Real 2018Forensic Sciences Research2018,3,2:2
18Resveratrol attenuates metabolic,sperm,and testicular changes in adult Wistar rats fed a diet rich in lipids and simple carbohydrates显示文摘High-fat diets affect male reproduction and sexual function.Therefore,we evaluated the effects of prolonged resveratrol administration on the metabolic,sperm,and testicular parameters of rats fed a cafeteria diet.Male Wistar rats were divided at weaning into control(Cv n=20)and cafeteria(CAF,n=16)groups.At 3 months,half of them were given daily supplementations of resveratrol(C-R,n=10;CAF-R,n=8)at a dosage of 30 mg kg-1 body mass for 2 months.Animals were killed at 5 months of age,and blood,spermatozoa,and testes were collected for further analysis.Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA,and P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.The CAF diet promoted hyperglycemia(P<0.0001),and treatment with resveratrol reversed this condition(P<0.0001).The CAF diet reduced sperm viability and motility,while resveratrol improved these parameters(F<0.05).Regarding testicular morphology,the height of the seminiferous epithelium was reduced in the CAF group compared with that of the C group(P=0.0007).Spermatogenic cell proliferation was also reduced in the CAF group compared with that of the C group.However,the CAF-R showed an increase in cell proliferation rate compared with that of the untreated CAF group(P=0.0024).Although it did not modify body mass,the consumption of a CAF diet promoted hyperglycemia,adverse testicular morphology remodeling,and abnormal sperm,which were attenuated by treatment with resveratrol,thus suggesting a protective effect of this antioxidant on spermatogenesis.Fabiana A de Oliveira Waldemar S Costa Francisco J B Sampaio Bianca M Gregorio 2019Asian Journal of Andrology2019,21,2:2
