1EXPERIMENTAL AND FIELD STUDY ON MINING-PIT MIGRATION显示文摘Rivers are one of the most essential sources of sand and gravel supply for civil works. However, undesirable effects of irregular in-stream mining have been reported on natural sources, environment and infrastructures close to rivers. Therefore, it is necessary to find the effects of mining on rivers in more details. This research concentrates on mining-pit migration phenomenon and its effects on the channel bed. This paper reports an experimental study on the migration of rectangular mining pits and variation of longitudinal profile in the channel bed composed of rather uniform sediments. Different values of widths and lengths were used for pit while pit depths and flow variables were kept constant. The results show that the migration speed changes with the length/width ratio of the pit. The migration speed in convection period is higher than that in diffusion period. In addition, by increasing the length or width, filling rate of pit increases, where the effect of width is more important than the effect of the length. Also is reported in this paper a field study on the changes of three pits excavated at different locations of a river. 2Microtechnology-based methods for organoid models显示文摘Innovations in biomaterials and stem cell technology have allowed for the emergence of novel three-dimensional(3D)tissue-like structures known as organoids and spheroids.As a result,compared to conventional 2D cell culture and animal models,these complex 3D structures have improved the accuracy and facilitated in vitro investigations of human diseases,human development,and personalized medical treatment.Due to the rapid progress of this field,numerous spheroid and organoid production methodologies have been published.However,many of the current spheroid and organoid production techniques are limited by complexity,throughput,and reproducibility.Microfabricated and microscale platforms(e.g.,microfluidics and microprinting)have shown promise to address some of the current limitations in both organoid and spheroid generation.Microfabricated and microfluidic devices have been shown to improve nutrient delivery and exchange and have allowed for the arrayed production of size-controlled culture areas that yield more uniform organoids and spheroids for a higher throughput at a lower cost.In this review,we discuss the most recent production methods,challenges currently faced in organoid and spheroid production,and microfabricated and microfluidic applications for improving spheroid and organoid generation.Specifically,we focus on how microfabrication methods and devices such as lithography,microcontact printing,and microfluidic delivery systems can advance organoid and spheroid applications in medicine.Vanessa Velasco S.Ali Shariati Rahim Esfandyarpour 2020Microsystems & Nanoengineering2020,6,1:3
3Structural and Mechanistic Studies of γ-Fe2O3 Nanoparticle as Capecitabine Drug Nanocarrier显示文摘Using density functional theory,noncovalent interactions and four mechanisms of covalent functionalization of capecitabine anticancer drug onto γ-Fe_2O_3 nanoparticles have been investigated.Quantum molecular descriptors of noncovalent configurations were studied.It was specified that binding of capecitabine onto γ-Fe_2O_3 nanoparticles is thermodynamically suitable.Hardness and the gap of energy between LUMO and HOMO of capecitabine are higher than the noncovalent configurations,showing the reactivity of capecitabine increases in the presence of γ-Fe_2O_3 nanoparticles.Capecitabine can bond to γ-Fe_2O_3 nanoparticles through OH(k_1 mechanism),NH(k_2 mechanism),CO(k_3 mechanism) and F(k_4 mechanism) groups.The activation energies,activation enthalpies and activation Gibbs free energies of these reactions were calculated.It was specified that the k_1 and k_2 mechanisms are under thermodynamic control and k_3 and k_4 under kinetic control.These results could be generalized to other similar drugs.ETEBARI Nasfin MORSALI Ali BEYRAMABADI S.Ali 2018Chinese Journal of Structural Chemistry2018,37,3:2
4Influence of graphene nanoplatelet incorporation and dispersion state on thermal, mechanical and electrical properties of biodegradable matrices显示文摘Graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs) were used as multifunctional nanofiller to enhance thermal and mechanical properties as well as electrical conductivity of two different biodegradable thermoplastics: poly lactide(PLA) and poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)(PBAT). Morphological investigations showed different levels of GNP dispersion in the two matrices, and consequently physical properties of the two systems exhibited dissimilar behaviours with GNP incorporation. Crystallinity of PLA, determined from differential scanning calorimetry, was observed to increase markedly with addition of GNPs in contrast to the decrease in crystallinity of PBAT. Isothermal and non-isothermal thermogravimetric analyses also revealed a more significant delay in thermal decomposition of PLA upon addition of GNPs compared to that of PBAT. Furthermore, results showed that increasing GNP content of PLA and PBAT nanocomposites influenced their Young's modulus and electrical conductivity in different ways. Modulus of PBAT increased continuously with increasing GNP loading while that of PLA reached a maximum at 9 wt%GNPs and then decreased. Moreover, despite the higher conductivity of pure PBAT compared to pure PLA, conductivity of PLA/GNP nanocomposites overtook that of PBAT/GNP nanocomposites above a certain GNP concentration. 7Can Fig and Olive Ameliorate the toxicity Induced by 2-nitropropane in some organs of mice? role of inflammatory versus anti-inflammatory genes显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To investigate the efficacy of Fig fruit powder and olive on hepatic,renal and splenic injury induced by 2-nitropropane(2-NP)in mice,especially if they were used in combination.METHODS:A total of 40 adult BALB/c male mice weighting 25-30 g/each.Mice were categorized into five groups(8 each).Group 1 as negative control.Group 2 as positive control group intraperitoneally injected with 2-NP(100 mg/kg b.w.)3 times/weekly for eight weeks.Group 3 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplemented with Fig(300 mg/kg).Group 4 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplemented with olive(100 mg/kg).Group 5 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplemented with mixture of Fig and olive(3∶1 respectively).RESULTS:Histopathological observation of liver in mice treated with 2-NP showed cellular degeneration,pyknosis,and congestion of the portal vein.In kidney there were disorganization of the cortical tissues,cellular necrosis and plenty of inflammatory lymphocytic aggregation.Significant elevations in liver function parameters(alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase),m RNA expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-α,nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase and cyclooxygenase were detected as anti-inflammatory markers and 5-lipoxygenase,interleukin-1βand interleukin-6 as inflammatory biomarkers for liver and spleen,also significant elevations was detected in lipid peroxidation levels.The levels of antioxidants,glutathione,glutathione peroxidase,catalase and superoxide dismutase were significantly decreased.CONCLUSION:our findings indicated that Fig fruit powder and olive protected against hepatic,renal and splenic injury induced with 2-NP in mice,especially if they were used in combination.Elham A.Abd-Allah Nouf S.Al-Abbas Mona M.Atia Fawzia Alzahrani El-Mokhtar M.Ahmed Soad S.Ali Soad K.Al Jaouni 2021Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2021,41,6:0
8Newtonian heating in stagnation point flow of Burgers fluid显示文摘The Newtonian heating effects in the stagnation point flow of a Burgers fluid are addressed in this paper. The boundary layer flow problems are stated in the spatial domain from zero to infinity. The solution expressions for the velocity and the temperature are obtained and examined for the influential variables. The tabulated values show comparison with the previous results. 9Optoelectronic Response of GeZn_(2)O_(4) through the Modified Becke-Johnson Potential显示文摘A first-principles technique capable of describing the nearly excited states of semiconductors and insulators,namely the modified Becke–Johnson(mBJ)potential approximation,is used to investigate the electronic band structure and optical properties of spinel oxides:GeZn_(2)O_(4).The predicted band gaps using the mBJ approximation are significantly more accurate than the proposed previous theoretical work using the common LDA and GGA.Band gap dependent optical parameters,like the dielectric constant,index of refraction,reflectivity and optical conductivity are calculated and analyzed.The results from the dielectric constant shows that the numerical value of the static dielectric,after dropping constantly,becomes less than zero and the material exhibits metallic behavior.The refractive index also drops below unity for photons higher than 18 eV,which indicates that the velocities of incident photons are greater than the velocity of light.However,these phenomena can be explained by the fact that a signal must be transmitted as a wave packet rather than a monochromatic wave.This comprehensive theoretical study of the optoelectronic properties predicts that these materials can effectively be used in optical devices.Iftikhar Ahmad B.Amin M.Maqbool S.Muhammad G.Murtaza S.Ali N.A.Noor 2012Chinese Physics Letters2012,29,9:0
10An Efficient Breast Cancer Detection Framework for Medical Diagnosis Applications显示文摘Breast cancer is themost common type of cancer,and it is the reason for cancer death toll in women in recent years.Early diagnosis is essential to handle breast cancer patients for treatment at the right time.Screening with mammography is the preferred examination for breast cancer,as it is available worldwide and inexpensive.Computer-Aided Detection(CAD)systems are used to analyze medical images to detect breast cancer,early.The death rate of cancer patients has decreased by detecting tumors early and having appropriate treatment after operations.Processing of mammogram images has four main steps:pre-processing,segmentation of the region of interest,feature extraction and classification of the images into normal or abnormal classes.This paper presents an efficient framework for processing of mammogram images and introduces an algorithm for segmentation of the images to detect masses.The pre-processing step of mammogram images includes removal of digitization noise using a 2D median filter,removal of artifacts using morphological operations,and contrast enhancement using a fuzzy enhancement technique.The proposed fuzzy image enhancement technique is analyzed and compared with conventional techniques based on an Enhancement Measure(EME)and local contrast metrics.The comparison shows an outstanding performance of the proposed technique from the visual and numerical perspectives.The segmentation process is performed using Otsu’smultiple thresholding method.This method segments the image regions into five classes with variable intensities using four thresholds.Its effectiveness is measured based on visual quality of the segmentation output,as it gives details about the image and positions of masses.The performance of the proposed framework is measured using Dice coefficient,Hausdorff,and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio(PSNR)metrics.The segmented tumor region with the proposed segmentation method is 81%of the ground truth region provided by an expert.Hence,the proposed framework achieves promising results for aiding radiologists in screening of mammograms,accurately.Naglaa F.Soliman Naglaa S.Ali Mahmoud I.Aly Abeer D.Algarni Walid El-Shafai Fathi E.Abd El-Samie 2022Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,1:0
11Analytical determination of non-local parameter value to investigate the axial buckling of nanoshells affected by the passing nanofluids and their velocities considering various modified cylindrical shell theories显示文摘We analytically determine the nonlocal parameter value to achieve a more accurate axial-buckling response of carbon nanoshells conveying nanofluids. To this end, the four plates/shells' classical theories of Love, Fl ¨ugge, Donnell, and Sanders are generalized using Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory. By combining these theories in cylindrical coordinates,a modified motion equation is presented to investigate the buckling behavior of the nanofluid-nanostructure-interaction problem. Herein, in addition to the small-scale effect of the structure and the passing fluid on the critical buckling strain,we discuss the effects of nanoflow velocity, fluid density(nano-liquid/nano-gas), half-wave numbers, aspect ratio, and nanoshell flexural rigidity. 12Synthesis,Urease Inhibition and Molecular Modelling Studies of Novel Derivatives of the Naturally Occurring b-Amyrenone显示文摘Urease enzyme(UE)has been reported to be a potent virulence factor for Helicobacter pylori(HP)bacteria indicated to be responsible for various gastrointestinal diseases.Therefore,the spread of HP,currently regarded by the World Health Organization as a class 1 carcinogen,could be better controlled by targeting UE.It is in this line that we have synthesized three new derivatives(2–4)of the naturally occurring olean-12-en-3-one(1),which was previously isolated from the figs of Ficus vallis-choudae Delile(Moraceae).Among the synthesized compounds,3 and 4 contain an indole moiety.Their structures were unambiguously assigned by spectroscopic and spectrometric techniques(1D-NMR,2D-NMR and MS).The starting material and the synthesized compounds were screened for UE inhibition activity,and showed significant activities with IC50 values ranging from 14.5 to 24.6 lM,with compound(1)being the most potent as compared to the positive control thiourea(IC50=21.6 lM).Amongst the synthetic derivatives,compound 4 was the most potent(IC50-=17.9 lM),while the others showed activities close to that of the control.In addition,molecular docking study of target compounds 2–4 was performed in an attempt to explore their binding mode for the design of more potent UE inhibitors.Jean J.K.Bankeu Hira Sattar Yannick S.F.Fongang Syeda W.Muhammadi Conrad V.Simoben Fidele Ntie-Kang Guy R.T.Feuya Marthe A.T.Tchuenmogne Mehreen Lateef Bruno N.Lenta Muhammad S.Ali Augustin S.Ngouela 2019Natural Products and Bioprospecting2019,9,1:0
