1Clinicopathological significance of altered Notch signaling in extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To investigate the role and clinicopathological significance of aberrant expression of Notch receptors and Delta-like ligand-4 (DLL4) in extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder carcinoma.METHODS:One hundred and ten patients had surgically resected extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (CC) and gallbladder carcinoma specimens examined by immunohistochemistry of available paraffin blocks.Immunohistochemistry was performed using anti-Notch receptors 1-4 and anti-DLL4 antibodies.We scored the immunopositivity of Notch receptors and DLL4 expression by percentage of positive tumor cells with cytoplasmic expression and intensity of immunostaining.Coexistent nuclear localization was evaluated.Clinicopatho-logical parameters and survival data were compared with the expression of Notch receptors 1-4 and DLL4.RESULTS:Notch receptor proteins showed in the cytoplasm with or without nuclear expression in cancer cells,as well as showing weak cytoplasmic expression in non-neoplastic cells.By semiquantitative evaluation,positive immunostaining of Notch receptor 1 was detected in 96 cases (87.3%),Notch receptor 2 in 97 (88.2%),Notch receptor 3 in 97 (88.2%),Notch receptor 4 in 103 (93.6),and DLL4 in 84 (76.4%).In addition,coex- istent nuclear localization was noted [Notch receptor 1;18 cases (18.8%),Notch receptor 2;40 (41.2%),Notch receptor 3;32 (33.0%),Notch receptor 4;99 (96.1%),DLL4;48 (57.1%)].Notch receptor 1 expression was correlated with advanced tumor,node,metastasis (TNM) stage (P=0.043),Notch receptor 3 with advanced T stage (P=0.017),tendency to express in cases with nodal metastasis (P=0.065) and advanced TNM stage (P=0.052).DLL4 expression tended to be related to less histological differentiation (P=0.095).Coexistent nuclear localization of Notch receptor 3 was related to no nodal metastasis (P=0.027) and Notch receptor 4 with less histological differentiation (P=0.036),while DLL4 tended to be related inversely with T stage (P=0.053).Coexistent nuclear localization of DLL4 was related to poor survival (P=0.002).CONCLUSION:Aberrant expression of Notch receptors 1 and 3 play a role during cancer progression,and cytoplasmic nuclear coexistence of DLL4 expression correlates with poor survival in extrahepatic CC and gallbladder carcinoma.Hyun Ah Yoon Myung Hwan Noh Byung Geun Kim Ji Sun Han Jin Seok Jang Seok Ryeol Choi Jin Sook Jeong Jin Ho Chun 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,35:14
2Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is associated with coronary artery disease in Koreans显示文摘AIM:To investigate whether nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)affects coronary artery disease(CAD)and identify candidate mediators.METHODS:Patients who underwent coronary angiography were consecutively recruited.The patients were classified into four groups by coronary artery stenosis:A,insignificant;B,one-vessel disease;C,two-vessel disease;and D,three-vessel disease.Abdominal ultrasonography was performed to determine the presence of a fatty liver and categorize by grade:0,no evidence;1,mild;2,moderate;and 3,severe.We measured not only known CAD risk factors,but also serum insulin,HOMA-index,adiponectin,interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor-αand high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels.RESULTS:Of the 134 patients who met the inclusion criteria,82(61.2%)had ultrasonographically diagnosed NAFLD.Among the 46 patients with CAD,37(80.4%)had evidence of a fatty liver.The two groups(A vs B-D)were significantly different in terms of age,total cholesterol,triglycerides,low-density lipoprotein levels and fatty liver.Coronary artery stenosis was strongly associated with fatty liver in a grade-dependent manner(P=0.025).In binary logistic regression,NAFLD was a significant independent predictor of CAD(P=0.03,OR=1.685;95%CI:1.051-2.702).Among the candidate mediators,the serum adiponectin level showed a trend toward lowering based on CAD progression(P=0.071).CONCLUSION:NAFLD is an independent risk factor for CAD in a grade-dependent manner.Moreover,adiponectin might be related to the pathogenesis of NAFLD.Dae Hee Choi Sung Joon Lee Chang Don Kang Myoung Ok Park Dong Wook Choi Tae Suk Kim Wonho Lee Byung Ryul Cho Yong Hoon Kim Bong-ki Lee Dong Ryeol Ryu Ji Won Lee 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,38:5
3Magnifying endoscopy of gastric epithelial dysplasia based on the morphologic characteristics显示文摘AIM:To investigate the difference in magnifying endoscopic findings of gastric epithelial dysplasias(GEDs)according to the morphologic characteristics.METHODS:This study included 46 GED lesions in 45patients who underwent magnifying endoscopy using narrow band imaging(ME-NBI)before endoscopic resection.During ME-NBI,the microvascular and microsurface(MS)patterns and the presence of light blue crest(LBC)and white opaque substance were investigated.GEDs were categorized as adenomatous,foveolar,and hybrid types,and their mucin phenotype was evaluated.RESULTS:Of the 46 lesions,27(59%)were categorized as adenomatous,15(32%)as hybrid,and the remaining 4(9%)as foveolar.All adenomatous GEDs showed the round pit and/or tubular MS patterns,all foveolar GEDs showed the papillary pattern,and hybrid GEDs showed mixed patterns(P<0.001).LBC was more frequently observed in adenomatous GEDs than in hybrid or foveolar GEDs(52%,33%,0%,respectively),although this difference was not significant(P=0.127).The papillary MS pattern was associated with MUC5AC and MUC6 expression,and the round pit and/or tubular MS patterns were associated with CD10expression.CONCLUSION:The MS pattern in ME-NBI findings is useful for predicting the morphologic category and mucin phenotype of GEDs,and ME-NBI findings may guide decisions regarding GED treatment.Hwa Mi Kang Gwang Ha Kim Do Youn Park Hong Ryeol Cheong Dong Hoon Baek Bong Eun Lee Geun Am Song 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,42:4
4Improved block matching approach to fast disparity estimation显示文摘An improved block matching approach to fast disparity estimation in machine vision applications is proposed, where the matching criterion is the sum of the absolute difference(SAD).By evaluating the lower bounds, which become increasingly tighter for the matching criteria, the method tries to successively terminate unnecessary computations of the matching criteria between the reference block in one image and the ineligible candidate blocks in another image.It also eliminates the ineligible blocks as early as possible, while ensuring the optimal disparity of each pixel.Also, the proposed method can further speed up the elimination of ineligible candidate blocks by efficiently using the continuous constraint of disparity to predict the initial disparity of each pixel.The performance of the new algorithm is evaluated by carrying out a theoretical analysis, and by comparing its performance with the disparity estimation method based on the standard block matching.Simulated results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves a computational cost reduction of over 50.5% in comparision with the standard block matching method.Tao Tangfei Ja Choon Koo Hyouk Ryeol Choi 2009Journal of Systems Engineering and Electronics2009,20,6:2
5Shape Estimation of Soft Manipulator Using Stretchable Sensor显示文摘The soft robot manipulator is attracting attention in the surgical fields with its intrinsic softness,lightness in its weight,and safety toward the human organ.However,it cannot be used widely because of its difficulty of control.To control a soft robot manipulator accurately,shape sensing is essential.This paper presents a method of estimating the shape of a soft robot manipulator by using a skin-type stretchable sensor composed of a multiwalled carbon nanotube(MWCNT)and silicone(p7670).The sensor can be easily fabricated and applied by simply attaching it to the surface of the soft manipulator.In its fabrication,MWCNT is sprayed on a teflon sheet,and liquid-state silicone is poured on it.After curing,we turn it over and cover it with another silicone layer.The sensor is fabricated with a sandwich structure to decrease the hysteresis of the sensor.After calibration and determining the relationship between the resistance of the sensor and the strain,three sensors are attached at 120°intervals.Using the obtained data,the curvature of the manipulator is calculated,and the entire shape is reconstructed.To validate its accuracy,the estimated shape is compared with the camera data.We experiment with three,six,and nine sensors attached,and the result of the error of shape estimation is compared.As a result,the minimum tip position error is approximately 8.9 mm,which corresponded to 4.45%of the total length of the manipulator when using nine sensors.Jinho So Uikyum Kim Yong Bum Kim Dong-Yeop Seok Sang Yul Yang Kihyeon Kim Jae Hyeong Park Seong Tak Hwang Young Jin Gong Hyouk Ryeol Choi 2021Cyborg and Bionic Systems2021,,1:2
