| 2 | Performance of pond–wetland complexes as a preliminary processor of drinking water sources显示文摘Shijiuyang Constructed Wetland(110 hm^2) is a drinking water source treatment wetland with primary structural units of ponds and plant-bed/ditch systems. The wetland can process about 250,000 tonnes of source water in the Xincheng River every day and supplies raw water for Shijiuyang Drinking Water Plant. Daily data for 28 months indicated that the major water quality indexes of source water had been improved by one grade. The percentage increase for dissolved oxygen and the removal rates of ammonia nitrogen, iron and manganese were 73.63%, 38.86%, 35.64%, and 22.14% respectively. The treatment performance weight of ponds and plant-bed/ditch systems was roughly equal but they treated different pollutants preferentially. Most water quality indexes had better treatment efficacy with increasing temperature and inlet concentrations. These results revealed that the pond–wetland complexes exhibited strong buffering capacity for source water quality improvement. The treatment cost of Shijiuyang Drinking Water Plant was reduced by about 30.3%. Regional rainfall significantly determined the external river water levels and adversely deteriorated the inlet water quality, thus suggesting that the 'hidden' diffuse pollution in the multitudinous stream branches as well as their catchments should be the controlling emphases for river source water protection in the future. The combination of pond and plant-bed/ditch systems provides a successful paradigm for drinking water source pretreatment. | 3 | Prevalence and risk factors of HIV and syphilis,and knowledge and risk behaviors related to HIV/AIDS among men who have sex with men in Chongqing,China显示文摘High HIV prevalence and incidence burdens have been reported in men who have sex with men(MSM)in Chongqing,China.We aimed to estimate the prevalence of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections(STIs),to appraise the knowledge and risk behaviors related to HIV/AIDS among MSM,and to analyze the possible causes of deviation between behavior and knowledge to make better strategies.We recruited 617 MSM from February to July in 2008 by using a respondent-driven sampling(RDS) method in Chongqing,China.Through the collection of questionnaire-based data and biological testing results from all objects,we launched a crosssectional survey.STATA/SE was used for data analysis by frequency,ANOVA,rank sum test and logistic regression models.MSM with syphilis(OR=4.16,95%CI:2.35-7.33,P<0.0001) were more likely to be HIV infected.Being a company employee(OR=3.64,95%CI:1.22-10.08,P<0.0001) and having bought male for sex(OR=3.52,95%CI:1.10-11.32,P<0.034) were associated with a higher probability of syphilis.MSM with younger age,higher education and greater monthly income had a higher mean knowledge score.MSM who had HIV testing had a higher mean knowledge score than those who never had.Students,venues for finding sex partners by Internet and homosexuals in MSM had a higher mean knowledge score compared to other occupations,venues for finding sex partners and sexual orientation.There is an urgent need for delivery of barrier and biomedical interventions with coordinated behavioral and structural strategies to improve the effect of HIV interventions among MSM. | Wenzhe Ma Guohui Wu Hui Zheng Wenjuan Zhang Zhihang Peng Rongbin Yu NingWang | 2016 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2016,30,2: | 9 |
| 4 | The association between the genetic polymorphisms of LMP2/LMP7 and the outcomes of HCV infection among drug users显示文摘Objective:To investigate a possible association of LMP2/LMP7 genes with chronic hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection,and to assess whether LMP2/LMP7 genes could influence the outcomes of HCV infection among drug users.Methods:Genomic DNAs of 362 anti-HCV sero-positive drug users and 225 control drug users were extracted from the peripheral blood leukocytes.The sero-positive patients were divided into those who had persistent infection and those who had spontaneously cleared the infection.Polymorphisms of LMP genes were determined by PCR combined with restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP).Results:The distribution of LMP2 genotypes among the control,persistent infection and spontaneous clearance groups were not different.However,the LMP7 codon 145 Gln/Lys,Lys/Lys,and Gln/Lys+Lys/Lys genotypes were found significantly more frequent in the persistent infection group than in control group(OR=1.75,95%CI=1.06~2.90;OR=3.16,95%CI=1.23-8.12;OR=1.94,95%CI=1.21-3.12,respectively).Similarly,the frequencies of the codon 145 Gln/Lys,Lys/Lys,and Gln/Lys+Lys/Lys genotypes were found significantly more frequent in the persistent infection group than in the spontaneous clearance group(OR=1.64,95%CI=1.04-2.57;OR=2.40,95%CI=1.09-5.28;OR=1.76,95%CI=1.152.69,respectively).Stratified analysis indicated that combined genotype Gln/Lys+Lys/Lys of the LMP7 gene was related to an increasing susceptibility to HCV infection(OR=1.91,95%CI=1.02-3.55;OR=2.19,95%CI=1.243.89;OR=1.91,95%CI=1.05-3.48,OR=2.86,95%CI=1.41-5.78,respectively)and the risk of persistent HCV infection(OR=1.94,95%CI=1.12-3.34;OR=2.02,95%CI=1.21-3.38;OR=1.78,95%CI=1.12-2.85,OR=2.23,95%CI=1.09-4.58,respectively)among>30-year-old,males,the injection drug user(IDU)subjects and/or the shorter duration drug users(≤5 y).Conclusion:These results suggest that polymorphism of the LMP7 gene may have an influence on the outcomes of HCV infection,and is one of the factors accounting for the genetic susceptibility to HCV infection among drug users. | Qian Cui Yongxiang Zhang Jing Su Chao Shi Na Lei Keqin Ding Jun Li Rongbin Yu L u Wang Ning Wang | 2010 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2010,24,5: | 6 |
| 5 | Prevalence and trends of aminoglycoside resistance in Shigella worldwide, 1999-2010显示文摘Shigellosis causes diarrheal disease in humans in both developed and developing countries, and multi-drug resistance in Shigella is an emerging problem. Understanding changing resistance patterns is important in determining appropriate antibiotic treatments. This meta-analysis systematically evaluated aminoglycoside resist-ance in Shigella. A systematic review was constructed based on MEDLINE and EMBASE databases. Randomeffect models or fixed-effect models were used based on P value considering the possibility of heterogeneity between studies for meta-analysis. Data manipulation and statistical analyses were performed using software STATA 11.0. By means of meta-analysis, we found a lower resistance to three kinds of aminoglycosides in the Europe-America areas during the 12 year study period than that of the Asia-Africa areas. Kanamycin resistance was observed to be the most common drug resistance among Shigella isolates with a prevalence of 6.88% (95%CI: 6.36%-7.43%). Comparison of data from Europe-America and Asia-Africa areas revealed that Shigella flexneri resistance was greater than the resistance calculated for Shigella sonnei. Importantly,Shigella sonnei has played a significant role in aminoglycoside-resistance in recent years. Similarly, data showed that resistance to these drugs in children was higher than the corresponding data of adults. In conclusion, aminoglycoside-resistant Shigella is not an unusual phenomenon worldwide. Distribution in Shigella resistance differs sharply based on geographic areas, periods of time and subtypes. | 6 | A survey of HIV infection and related high-risk factors among men who have sex with men in Suzhou,Jiangsu,China显示文摘A cross-sectional study using the snowball sampling method was conducted in May 2008 to investigate human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection status and related high risk factors among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Suzhou city of Jiangsu province. The researchers carried out a face-to-face questionnaire interview among MSM, and collected their blood samples to test for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Among the 280 respondents, 91.1% had homosexual acts in the past 6 months and 87.5% had multiple homosexual partners; 46.4% had heterosexual sex in the past 6 months and 33.1% had multiple heterosexual partners. The rate of continued condom use was 44.3% in homosexual sex in the past 6 months, while the rate in heterosexual sex was 33.9%. Laboratory test results showed that the prevalences of HIV and syphilis were 7.1% (20/280) and 15.0% (42/280), respectively, but no HCV-positive person was found. In the multivariate logistic regression model, subjects with a monthly income of more than RMB $ 1,000 (OR=4.83,95% CI=1.44-16.22), subjects who often went to bars for sexual partners (OR=2.25, 95%CI=1.21-4.20), and subjects who had more than one sexual partner in the past 6 months (OR=0.49, 95%CI=0.25-0.97) and had sex with fixed sexual partners in the past 6 months (OR=0.42, 95%CI=0.25-0.75) were significantly associated with the rate of continued condom use in homosexual sex in the past 6 months. Unprotected sex and multiple sexual partners were more common among MSM in Suzhou city; furthermore, the prevalences of HIV infection and syphilis were relatively high. | 10 | Associations of IFN-γ rs2430561 T/A,IL28B rs12979860 C/T and ERα rs2077647 T/C polymorphisms with outcomes of hepatitis B virus infection:a meta-analysis显示文摘Several studies investigated associations of IFN-γ rs2430561 T/A,IL28 B rs12979860 C/T and ERα rs2077647 T/C gene polymorphisms with outcomes of hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection,but the results were controversial.Therefore,we performed a meta-analysis of all published observational studies to address this inconsistency.Literature was searched in online database and a systematic review was conducted based on the search results.A total of 24 studies were included and dichotomous data were presented as odds ratio(OR) with a 95%confidence interval(CI).The rs2430561 T allele was associated with reduced persistent HBV infection risk(T vs.A:OR,0.690;95%CI,[0.490,0.971]),while the rs2077647 T allele significantly increased the risk of persistent HBV infection(T vs.C:OR.1.678;95%CI,[1.212,2.3231).Rs 2077647 CC might play a role in protecting individuals against HBV persistence(TT vs.CC:OR,4.109;95%CI,[2.609,6.473]).Furthermore,carriers of the rs2430561 TT genotype were more likely to clear HBV spontaneously compared with those of the AA genotype(TT vs.AA:OR,0.555;95%CI,[0.359,0.856]).For rs12979860 C/T polymorphism,no significant correlation with HBV infection outcomes was found.In subgroup analyses,the results were similar to those of overall analysis.However,for rs2077647 TT vs.TC+CC,significantly increased risks were observed in the Asian and hospital-based population,but not in the overall analysis.IFN-γrs2430561 T/A and ERα rs2077647 T/C genetic polymorphisms were associated with outcomes of HBV infection,but no association was found between IL28 B rs12979860 C/T and HBV infection. | Shaidi Tang Ming Yue Jiajia Wang Yun Zhang Rongbin Yu Jing Su Zhihang Peng Jie Wang | 2014 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2014,28,6: | 2 |

| 13 | Nanoscale all-optical logic devices显示文摘Commercial computers based on electronic logic devices have brought great changes to the world. However, traditional electronic devices are suffering from numerous technical challenges in their attempts to continue to satisfy Moore's law. Alloptical logic devices, as promising successors to their electronic counterparts, have become a major focus of optics research. In this paper, we provide a review of current all-optical logic devices. The logic gates in these devices, which are described in the first part of the review, are divided into five categories based on the different principles used in their realization. Complex optical devices with various functions and reconfigurable devices are summarized in the next section. In the final part of this paper, we discuss some of the previous works on all-optical integrated chips with specific functions. | 16 | Adsorption of Nin(n=1-4)clusters on perfect and O-defective CuAl2O4 surfaces:A DFT study显示文摘The density functional theory was employed to investigate the adsorption of Nin (n=1–4) on the perfect and O-defect CuAl2O4 surfaces. The computational results show that for single Ni atom on the perfect spinel (100) surface, the adsorption energy is-5.30 eV, much larger than Ni on other CuAl2O4 surfaces. The adsorption of Nin (n=1–4) absorbed on the O-defect CuAl2O4 (100) surface is less stable than on the perfect CuAl2O4 (100) surface. However, the adsorption energy for Nin (n=1–4) on the O-defect CuAl2O4 (110) surface is close to on the perfect CuAl2O4 (110) surface. Bader charge and partial density of states (PDOS) analysis revel that the adsorption of Ni on the CuAl2O4 spinel surface is accompanied by charge transfer from the metal to the support. The growth and aggregations analysis show that the general growth and aggregation ability for Nin clusters follow the order:gas phase>γ-Al2O3 (110)>CuAl2O4 (110)>CuAl2O4 (100). | 18 | Bright semiconductor single-photon sources pumped by heterogeneously integrated micropillar lasers with electrical injections显示文摘The emerging hybrid integrated quantum photonics combines the advantages of different functional components into a single chip to meet the stringent requirements for quantum information processing.Despite the tremendous progress in hybrid integrations of III-V quantum emitters with silicon-based photonic circuits and superconducting single-photon detectors,on-chip optical excitations of quantum emitters via miniaturized lasers towards single-photon sources(SPSs)with low power consumptions,small device footprints,and excellent coherence properties is highly desirable yet illusive.In this work,we present realizations of bright semiconductor SPSs heterogeneously integrated with on-chip electrically-injected microlasers.Different from previous one-by-one transfer printing technique implemented in hybrid quantum dot(QD)photonic devices,multiple deterministically coupled QD-circular Bragg Grating(CBG)SPSs were integrated with electrically-injected micropillar lasers at one time via a potentially scalable transfer printing process assisted by the wide-field photoluminescence(PL)imaging technique.Optically pumped by electrically-injected microlasers,pure single photons are generated with a high-brightness of a count rate of 3.8 M/s and an extraction efficiency of 25.44%.Such a high-brightness is due to the enhancement by the cavity mode of the CBG,which is confirmed by a Purcell factor of 2.5.Our work provides a powerful tool for advancing hybrid integrated quantum photonics in general and boosts the developments for realizing highly-compact,energy-efficient and coherent SPSs in particular. | Xueshi Li Shunfa Liu Yuming Wei Jiantao Ma Changkun Song Ying Yu Rongbin Su Wei Geng Haiqiao Ni Hanqing Liu Xiangbin Su Zhichuan Niu You-ling Chen Jin Liu | 2023 | Light(Science & Applications)2023,12,3: | 0 |
