2IDO1 in cancer: a Gemini of immune checkpoints显示文摘Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1(IDO1)is a rate-limiting metabolic enzyme that converts the essential amino acid tryptophan(Trp)into downstream catabolites known as kynurenines.Coincidently,numerous studies have demonstrated that IDO1 is highly expressed in multiple types of human cancer.Preclinical studies have further introduced an interesting paradox:while single-agent treatment with IDO1 enzyme inhibitor has a negligible effect on decreasing the established cancer burden,approaches combining select therapies with IDO1 blockade tend to yield a synergistic benefit against tumor growth and/or animal subject survival.Given the high expression of IDO1 among multiple cancer types along with the lack of monotherapeutic efficacy,these data suggest that there is a more complex mechanism of action than previously appreciated.Similar to the dual faces of the astrological Gemini,we highlight the multiple roles of IDO1 and review its canonical association with IDO1-dependent tryptophan metabolism,as well as documented evidence confirming the dispensability of enzyme activity for its immunosuppressive effects.The gene transcript levels for IDO1 highlight its strong association with T-cell infiltration,but the lack of a universal prognostic significance among all cancer subtypes.Finally,ongoing clinical trials are discussed with consideration of IDO1-targeting strategies that enhance the efficacy of immunotherapy for cancer patients。Lijie Zhai Erik Ladomersky Alicia Lenzen Brenda Nguyen Ricky Patel Kristen L Lauing Meijing Wu Derek A Wainwright 2018Cellular & Molecular Immunology2018,15,5:17
3The role of vascular endothelial growth factor in ossification显示文摘Osteogenesis and angiogenesis are two closely correlated processes during bone growth,development,remodelling and repair. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is an essential mediator during the process of angiogenesis. Based on an extensive literature search,which was carried out using the PubMed database and the Keywords of osteogenesis, VEGF, endochondral ossification and intramembranous ossification, this manuscript reviews the role of VEGF in ossification, with emphasis on its effect in endochondral and intramembranous ossification. Osteogenesis and angiogenesis are closely correlated processes. VEGF acts as an essential mediator during these processes. 5Factors associated with incomplete small bowel capsule endoscopy studies显示文摘AIM:To identify patient risk factors associated with incomplete small bowel capsule endoscopy(CE) studies.METHODS:Data from all CE procedures performed at St.Paul's Hospital in Vancouver,British Columbia,Canada,between December 2001 and June 2008 were collected and analyzed on a retrospective basis.Data collection for complete and incomplete CE study groups included patient demographics as well as a number of potential risk factors for incomplete CE including indication for the procedure,hospitalization,diabetes mellitus with or without end organ damage,limitations in mobility,renal insufficiency,past history of bowel obstruction,abdominal surgery,abdominal radiation therapy and opiate use.Risk factors were analyzed using a univariable and multivariable logistic regression model.RESULTS:From a total of 535 CE procedures performed,158 were incomplete(29.5%).The univariable analysis showed that CE procedures performed for overt gastrointestinal bleeding(P = 0.002),and for patients with a prior history of abdominal surgery(P = 0.023) or bowel obstruction(P = 0.023) were significantly associated with incomplete CE studies.Patients on opiate medications(P = 0.094) as well as hospitalized patients(P = 0.054) were not statistically significant,but did show a trend towards incomplete CE.The multivariable analysis showed that independent risk factors for an incomplete CE procedure include prior history of bowel obstruction [odds ratios(OR) 2.77,P = 0.02,95% confidence intervals(CI):1.17-6.56] and procedures performed for gastrointestinal bleeding(Occult OR 2.04,P = 0.037,95% CI:1.04-4.02 and Overt OR 2.69,P = 0.002,95% CI:1.44-5.05).Patients with a prior history of abdominal surgery(OR 1.46,P = 0.068,95% CI:0.97-2.19),those taking opiate medications(OR 1.54,P = 0.15,95% CI:0.86-2.76) and hospitalized patients(OR 1.82,P = 0.124,95% CI:0.85-3.93) showed a trend towards statistical significance.CONCLUSION:We have identified a number of risk factors for incomplete CE procedures that can be used to risk-stratify patients and guide interventions to improve completion rates.Mitchell M Lee Andrew Jacques Eric Lam Ricky Kwok Pardis Lakzadeh Ajit Sandhar Brandon Segal Sigrid Svarta Joanna Law Robert Enns 2010World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,42:10

9Contents of four active components in different commercial crude drugs and preparations of Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza)显示文摘AIM:To detect the contents of four active components of Salvia miltiorrhiza in various commercially available danshen crude drugs and preparations.METHODS:Commercially available danshen crude drugs from different sources,as well as danshen pills and intravenous injection preparations containing danshen alone or in combination with other herbs were collected.The composition of these danshen samples was analyzed using HPLC.Specifically,the amounts of magnesium tanshinoate B(MTB),danshensu,isotanshinone IIA,and cryptotanshinone were determined.In some of these samples,the content of MTB was further confirmed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometer (LC-MS)/MS method.RESULTS:There were great variations in the amount of the four active ingredients in the commercially available danshen crude drugs and drug preparations in this study.The amount of MTB was the highest among the four components measured in the crude drugs.However,the amounts of MTB in all danshen preparations were much lower than those in crude drugs.The 2 lipophilic components,isotanshinone IIA and cryptotanshinone,were very low or not detectable in both injection and oral preparations.CONCLUSION:MTB can be used to standardize the various forms of danshen crude drugs and drug preparations from different sources.In view of the variation in the amounts of MTB and other components,improvement in the production methods of danshen preparations is essential to ensure consistent amount of its active ingredients and reproducible pharmacological actions.Susan Wai Sum LEUNG Yaw Loong SIOW Ricky Ying Keung MAN 2002Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2002,23,12:6
10Tuning Superhydrophobic Materials with Negative Surface Energy Domains显示文摘Hydrophobic/superhydrophobic materials with intrinsic water repellence are highly desirable in engineering fields including antiicing in aerocrafts,antidrag and anticorrosion in ships,and antifog and self-cleaning in optical lenses,screen,mirrors,and windows.However,superhydrophobic material should have small surface energy(SE)and a micro/nanosurface structure which can reduce solid-liquid contact significantly.The low SE is generally found in organic materials with inferior mechanical properties that is undesirable in engineering.Intriguingly,previous theoretical calculations have predicted a negative SE forθ-alumina(θ-Al_(2)O_(3)),which inspires us to use it as a superhydrophobic material.Here,we report the experimental evidence of the small/negative SE ofθ-Al_(2)O_(3) and aθ-Al_(2)O_(3)-based superhydrophobic coating prepared by one-step scalable plasma arcing oxidation.The superhydrophobic coating has complete ceramic and desired micro/nanostructure and therefore exhibits excellent aging resistance,wear resistance,corrosion resistance,high-temperature tolerance,and burning resistance.Owing to the rarity of the small/negative SE in inorganic materials,the concept to reduce SE byθ-Al_(2)O_(3) may foster a blowout to develop robust superhydrophobicity by complete inorganic materials.Zhongzhen Wu Liangliang Liu Shunning Li Shunping Ji Pinghu Chen Suihan Cui Zhengyong Ma Yuchang Weng Qian Huang Zhongcan Wu Hao Wu Yuan Lin Ricky KYFu Hai Lin Xiubo Tian Paul KChu Feng Pan 2019Research2019,,1:6
11高压耦合高功率脉冲磁控溅射的增强放电效应显示文摘等离子体源离子注入与沉积技术作为一种可生产高结合力、高致密度涂层的真空镀膜技术,具有广阔的应用前景,尤其适用于高载荷工况下服役的功能涂层制备.该技术中金属等离子体源是关键,而现有的脉冲阴极弧源结构复杂,且由于伴随'金属液滴'而需要增加过滤装置.本文研究了另一种简单结构的金属等离子体源备选一高功率脉冲磁控溅射源(HPPMS)的放电特性,采用等离子体发射光谱仪探索了不同的耦合高压对HPPMS放电靶电流特性和等离子体特性的作用.发现耦合高压对HPPMS放电有明显的促进作用,相同靶电压下的放电强度大幅增加,相对于金属放电,耦合高压对气体放电的促进作用更加明显,但在自溅射为主的高压放电阶段对金属放电的促进作用明显增强.讨论了耦合高压对HPPMS放电的增强机制,发现耦合高压自辉光放电、耦合高压和HPPMS电压构成双向负压形成的空心阴极效应,以及耦合高压鞘层改善的双极扩散效应都对HPPMS放电的增强有明显作用.吴忠振 田修波 潘锋 Ricky K.Y.Fu 朱剑豪 2014物理学报2014,63,18:5
12凹模内腔等离子体离子注入数值仿真—(Ⅰ)脉冲宽度效应显示文摘模具表面改性日益受到人们重视。本文采用二维Particle-in-cell/Monte Carlo Collision模型对等离子体浸没离子注入处理凹模型腔内表面的鞘层动力学及均匀性进行了研究。考察了电压脉宽对鞘层中电势分布、离子的运动状态以及型腔内表面离子注入剂量、能量和角度的空间分布的影响。结果表明随着电压脉宽的增加,凹模型腔内表面的注入剂量不均匀性增加,同时注入到内表面的高能离子数目也增加。脉冲宽度变化对注入角度影响不大,离子以接近垂直的入射角度注入到型腔底部,而在侧壁上离子注入角度接近45°。当脉冲宽度较大时,发现少部分注入到侧壁上的离子以一定角度从下往上注入到样品表面,这是由于碰撞效应造成的。从能量和剂量的角度,存在一个合适的脉冲宽度,过大的脉宽会引起剂量不均匀性增加,同时离子注入能量也会下降。汪志健 田修波 王蓬 巩春志 杨士勤 Ricky Fu 2010真空科学与技术学报2010,30,6:4
13Preparation and investigation of Pd doped Cu catalysts for selective hydrogenation of acetylene显示文摘A series of PdCu bimetallic catalysts with low Cu and Pd loadings and different Cu:Pd atomic ratios were prepared by conventionally sequential impregnation(CSD)and modified sequential impregnation(MSI)of Cu and Pd for selective hydrogenation of acetylene.Characterization indicates that the supported copper(I)nitrate in the PdCu bimetallic catalysts prepared by MSI can be directly reduced to Cu metal particles due to the hydrogen spillover from Pd to Cu(NO3)2 crystals.In addition,for the catalysts prepared by MSI,Pd atoms can form PdCu alloy on the surface of metal particles,however,for the catalysts prepared by CSI,Pd tends to migrate and exist below the surface layer of Cu.Reaction results indicate that compared with CSI,the MSI method enables samples to possess preferable stability as well as comparable reaction activity.This should be due to the MSI method in favor of the formation of PdCu alloy on the surface of metal particles.Moreover,even Pd loading is super low,<0.045 wt-%in this study,by through adjusting Cu loading to an appropriate value,attractive reactivity and selectivity still can be achieved.Xinxiang Cao Tengteng Lyu Wentao Xie Arash Mirjalili Adelaide Bradicich Ricky Huitema Ben W.-L.Jang Jong K.Keum Karren More Changjun Liu Xiaoliang Yan 2020Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering2020,14,4:4
14Mechanisms of autophagy activation in endothelial cell and their targeting during normothermic machine liver perfusion显示文摘Ischaemia-reperfusion injury(IRI) is the leading cause of injury seen in the liver following transplantation. IRI also causes injury following liver surgery and haemodynamic shock. The first cells within the liver to be injured by IRI are the liver sinusoidal endothelial cells(LSEC). Recent evidence suggests that LSEC coordinate and regulates the livers response to a variety of injuries. It is becoming increasingly apparent that the cyto-protective cellular process of autophagy is a key regulator of IRI. In particular LSEC autophagy may be an essential gatekeeper to the development of IRI. The recent availability of liver perfusion devices has allowed for the therapeutic targeting of autophagy to reduce IRI. In particular normothermic machine liver perfusion(NMP-L) allow the delivery of pharmacological agents to donor livers whilst maintaining physiological temperature and hepatic flow rates. 17边缘骨性Ⅲ类错手术与非手术效果的对比分析显示文摘目的:比较边缘骨性Ⅲ类错正颌手术与正畸掩饰治疗(拔牙)后的效果差异。方法:对两组骨性Ⅲ类手术边缘病例治疗前后的X线头颅侧位片进行对比分析,其中手术治疗组12例,单纯正畸组13例,所有病例治疗前ANB角都>-5°。结果:手术组治疗的主要变化是下颌骨前齿槽区的后移及下切牙的直立,正畸组的主要变化是下切牙的后倾及后移。两组治疗后的X线头影测量值经Mann-Whitney U检验显示ANB角,上下颌骨长度比(M/M ratio),NAPog角,下切牙倾斜角(∠L1/ML),上下切牙交角(∠U1/L1)有显著性差异,而标志软组织凹陷度的Holdaway角和Z角没有差异。结论:对于骨性Ⅲ类手术边缘错而言,选择合适的病例,手术与正畸掩饰治疗都可以获得可接受的咬合和美观效果。辜岷 A-Bakr M.Rabie Ricky W.K.Wong 2009口腔医学研究2009,25,5:4
18方管内表面等离子体离子注入动力学GPU-PIC仿真显示文摘内表面改性近年日益受到人们重视。本文采用基于Graphic Processing Unit(GPU)的Particle-in-cell(PIC)模型对方形管内表面的离子注入动力学过程进行数值仿真研究。结果表明在注入过程中,辅助地电极周围形成离子空穴,随时间延长,离子空穴发生交联并不断扩展,直至所有离子注入到方管内壁。离子空穴的形成和扩展使得在管内部形成离子密度波,密度波的传播速度随时间增加。由于等离子体鞘层的不均匀重叠使得管内的初始鞘层厚度分布不均,其中位于拐角附近的鞘层较厚,从而又导致了方管内壁周向上的注入剂量和能量分布存在不均匀性,内壁平面附近位置的注入剂量和注入能量均相对较大,而拐角附近的离子注入剂量和能量最小。本文采用GPU加速PIC的算法取得了高达90的加速比,极大缩短了等离子体粒子模拟的计算时间。汪志健 田修波 巩春志 杨士勤 Ricky Fu 2011真空科学与技术学报2011,31,4:3
